Chapter 6: Mate
Joey's POV
I sat in my office chair behind my desk while Cody sits in front of me in the dark blue chairs with his computer in his lap. We had been working on some pack stuff since I don't think the paperwork ever ended. It's been about two and a half months since I came out to my parents and they've been trying so hard for me to bring him over, but I haven't exactly told him about the fact that we're vicious predators.
"It seems like your parents are pretty insistent on you telling Kade soon," my beta says as he continues to type on his computer before writing on the papers that he held in his hands.
"Oh, yeah, you noticed that?" I asked, distracted reading about an incident with a rogue that was seen on our ground and attacked one of our young wolves who is, amazingly, okay.
"Just a bit, do you think you'll tell him yet?" He told me, setting his computer on the chair next to him to stretch since we've been here for about an hour or two just looking at our laptops and papers while having a slight conversation when we read about something that we didn't know had happened.
"I just don't think he's ready. It's a lot to take in," I tell him as I lean back in my chair to look at him as he shrugs his shoulders.
"You can't just lie to him after what happened at the last full moon," he told me, making memories plague my head at what had happened a few weeks ago.
I knew that he had a point because when the full moon hit last time, my wolf was so ready to have Kade that I had to completely ignore him all day. I even left school because I had the biggest hard-on of my life. He was really pissed at me, which is totally understandable because I just told him that I didn't feel okay without telling him that I was leaving. That's not a good excuse, but I couldn't exactly just say "my wolf wants to make love to you, so I can't be around you so my dick doesn't freak out in front of the whole school".
"I know. I'm just scared," I told him, which was the truth. If you had heard the horror stories wolves are told as children about when a mate rejects a wolf, you would be damn scared too.
"You can't change who you are, man," Cody tells me as I run a hand through my hair as I start to get more stressed about the whole situation. I wanted him to know what I was because I do care about him a lot, but I also didn't want to risk everything if I tell him too soon.
"That's not the problem, he can change who he thinks I am."
He sighs. "You gotta tell him or he'll know something's wrong when the full moon comes around and you avoid him just like before."
"I know, I know. I'll do it soon, maybe tonight," I say as I remember that we're having dinner tonight at the apartment since he finally was able to hang out with me since he got in trouble with his mom a few days ago for spending the night with me when he said that he would be at Melissa's.
"I want all details when you're done. Not for me, but for Melissa."
"Okay," I said with a chuckle.
There was a knock on the door as I was putting the tortellini on the plates that I had just finished cooking. I ran over to open the door to see my beautiful boyfriend standing there in some black joggers, a white t-shirt along with a light gray cardigan that went down past his ass, and a pair of slides with black socks.
"Hi, beautiful," I tell him as I pull him into a hug and give him a quick kiss before walking over to the table where he awes at the sunflowers that were in a vase on the side of the table since they were his favorite flower.
"All my favorites?" Kade asked as he sees the pasta, garlic bread, and raspberry lemonade all set up for him along with candles set up around the room to bring a good smell to the room.
"Yeah, it's a special night," I said, kissing the side of his head before pulling his chair out for him before sitting down across for him.
"What is all of this for?" He asked me.
"I have something to tell you, so we can either do it now or after we eat," I tell him and I can already see the panic rising in his eyes as he comes up with ideas for what I could have to tell him.
"Let's do it now to get it over with," he whispers and I stand up, going to sit on the couch as he followed me there to sit next to me.
I take a deep breath, already regretting telling him tonight since I didn't have too much to prepare for this. "I need you to know that I didn't tell you this because I didn't want to hurt you. I didn't tell you because I was protecting myself and, most importantly, you. If you knew this from the beginning, I don't think you would've wanted to continue," He looked at me majorly confused as I rung my hands together. "What I need to tell you is that I will never, ever in my entire life hurt you. I'm not like that, I might be the leader of a mythical creature pack, but it doesn't mean I'm, necessarily, dangerous."
"What the actual fuck are you talking about?" He snapped at me.
"I'm... a werewolf. I'm the alpha of the White Water Pack and you're my mate. That is why whenever I touch you, you feel sparks, which is our blood boiling because of the lust when we touch. The sensitivity in your neck is because that's how we complete the mating process. That's why I've been holding off on that because I needed to tell you this first."
I caught my breath as Kade's eyes were frozen open at what I had just told him. I waited a few minutes as I let his mind wander to give him time to try to understand what I had just said to him. "Please, say something."
"This is a really sick joke, Joseph," he told me with a fierce tone in his voice and I could tell how angry he was by how he used my full name, which he only ever did when he was either mad or joking.
"This isn't a joke."
"I don't believe you," he snapped as he glared at me and I could feel the anger pouring off of him in waves as he tried to get me to say that this was a joke and I wish I could to make him feel better, but I just couldn't.
I stood from my chair, motioning for him to follow me out the door. We walked in silence to the side of the apartment complex where there was enough light, but no human life, except for us. I slipped my shirt off and my pants so I was only in my boxers when I backed away from him. He crossed his arms, hating that I was going this far for some 'joke'.
I felt the warm tingle through my body as I let my wolf start to take control. It felt like the sun was shining on my body even if it was dark. I felt my bones crack, which didn't even phase me anymore from doing it so much since I was a young pup. I landed on the ground on my paws, shaking my fur to get all the dirt and grass off of it.
I looked up at Kade with my eyes that now appear bright blue from my wolf taking over. His eyes were wide in shock again as he tried to process all of this information that I just threw at him. Once I saw his eyes shrink a bit as some shock wore off, I moved to sit in front of him while still walking slowly to not frighten him. He kneeled down to be closer to me, but my frame was taller than him than him on his knees since I was bigger than some of the other wolves since I'm the alpha.
He giggled a bit as he ran his hand over top of my head through my fur, making my wolf's chest puff out in pride at giving our mate enjoyment. My wolf leaned over to lick his cheek lightly, making him swipe at my fur a bit more to try to push me away.
"I still think I'm going insane," he said, his smile not dropping as he kept running his fingers through my fur.
I licked his face before backing up to shift back since I realized my wolf had shocked him enough for the day. I felt the tingle coming back as I fell back on only two legs. I put on my sweatpants and t-shirt again before moving back over to him as he turns around to go back to the apartment with me following him. We get back in and sit down on the couch as he sighs to think of what to say.
"White Water Pack?" He whispered, crossing his arms as he stared forward at the carpet with stressed eyes as I saw his mind running.
"Yeah."
"You're the alpha?"
"Alpha, the leader, yes," I tell him as he turns on the couch to face me as I could tell that he was going to ask questions to learn more about this whole situation and I was glad that he was willing to learn.
"Cody is one too?"
"He's my second-in-command, my beta and Melissa is his mate."
"Melissa knows?" He asked with wide eyes as he thought about the three of us hiding so much from him for so long.
"Yeah, she's known ever since he told her after they had been dating for about a month."
"I'm not insane, am I?" He asked as he furrowed his brow at this entire night.
"Not whatsoever. I'm a werewolf and you did not just dream of me shape shifting."
"Mate?"
"You're my mate, which basically means that we were put together years ago by the spirits, which is also called the Moon Goddess, which is basically the werewolf version of Mother Nature in a way. It just means that we were meant to be together, kinda like soulmates."
He closed his eyes to rub them, shocked as I told him the news of us basically being soulmates and destined to be together for life. He decided to change the subject. "Tell me about your pack."
"We have about 650 members in our pack and we all live in a neighborhood that's known as our camp. There are houses where each family is designated to live. There's the Quarter House which is where the alpha, beta, former alpha, and former beta live with their mates, but the former betas actually left a few months to just travel the world since they were finally free."
"Why did you wait a month to tell me?" He whispered.
"I was worried of if you would accept me."
"Well, I've told you before that I don't care who you are; black, white, short, tall, skinny, fat, human, wolf, vampire, angel, and whatever the hell there is."
I chuckled. "Only human and wolf as I know."
He nodded and laughed. "Well, okay then. Nothing has changed. I just now know more things about you, but that's what a relationship is. We'll keep learning things about each other, it'll just take me some time to adjust to this huge news."
"You're amazing, you know that?" I said, moving over to pull him into my arms.
"I think I did," he joked as he set his head on my shoulder.
He moved back to put our lips together and I kissed him back with everything in me to tell him how much I truly cared about him. I bit down on his lip, making him moan against my mouth as I reached up to set my hand on the back of his neck while his hands rested on my thighs just above my knees.
He pulls away to set his forehead against mine and look into my eyes. "Thank you for telling me, I can't even imagine how hard it was for you."
"I just wanted you to be happy, baby boy," I told him, running my hand through his hair as he sighed in contentment or stress, I couldn't tell which one.
"I am so happy to be with you. I guess you're kinda stuck with me now, huh?" He said with a chuckle, rubbing our noses together slightly, making me close my eyes as our skin exploded with sparks.
"And I am so glad I am because you're everything I could've asked for."
