Chapter 42: Battle

Joey's POV

I watched as one of my men went down due to a bloodthirsty rogue and I rushed over, fighting with it for a bit before biting into its neck, receiving a howl in pain before it fell to the ground at my paws. I kept moving forward, helping any of my men that needed it. We had been fighting for the past two days, swapping out so no one got too tired and made mistakes that could cost any lives. I was covered in cuts and bruises, nothing too serious except for a claw mark on my back, but it was already healing due to my adrenaline.

I looked out in front of me to see wolves upon wolves, all fighting together. We had all decided to do this shifted since that's what the rogues were doing and a bullet wouldn't stop them unless you hit the perfect spot. I had lost my dad and Cody when we first started, but I've seen glances of them through the mess, so I knew they were okay. Oliver had found me and stayed by my side for a bit before we were, unfortunately, separated.

I saw a rogue fighting one of my men and I started running over but was too late as they fell to the ground with blood dripping over their entire body. I immediately attacked the rogue, receiving a yelp in surprise as we rolled in the dirt to each gain control. I was much stronger than them and when I had the chance, I let my canines sink into their flesh to slow their heartbeat. When I lifted my head, I saw the poor wolf shifting and almost threw up when I saw who it was.

Monica, one of my front gate guards, was bleeding out on the ground in front of me. I shifted back into my human form, reaching out to take her hand in mine as she stared at me. She squeezed my hand tightly as my other hand covered her wound that was definitely going to kill her at the severity. I looked up at her face when she tried to clear her throat. "I killed him, I'm so sorry, Alpha."

I look over at the wolf that she just killed to notice that he was one of the members of the other packs that were helping us. I notice that the wolves' eyes were a dark purple that resembled a red that matched a rogues' and I could tell how she would get confused between the two. I look back down at her, keeping a hold on her hand. "It's okay, you were confused, it's alright. You did what you had to."

She shook her head, closing her eyes as tears fell out of them. "Their eyes looked so s-similar."

"I know, I promise you, it's okay," I whisper, hating that I was watching one of my friends die due to my assumption that she was a rogue for killing one of our people.

She gave me a soft smile as her eyes started to flutter. "Thank you, Alpha, for everything."

My heart broke when her head fell to the side as she took her last breath. I stayed there for a few moments to calm down before knowing that I needed to get back to protect others in need. I caught a glimpse of Cody before rushing over to him, noticing that he was having some problems with a particular wolf. I helped fight them off before he gave me a silent nod and ran off to help others.

I took a second, noticing that the entire field smelt of blood. Bodies of wolves laid on the ground, mostly rogues. My paws were covered in dirt and blood, making leaves stick to them whenever I walked. I noticed that a few of my pack members had injuries on their bodies, but kept fighting for us because they knew it wasn't their time to take a break. Last I heard, only 20 of our fighters were killed during the battle while the rogue's count was much higher.

"Joey!" Cody yelled to me as he ran towards me in his human form. I shifted to match him, meeting halfway with him as he let out a long breath while he leaned on his knees.

"What's going on?"

"I just got word that they found Reece's body a few minutes ago and the fighting had somewhat ceased. I think we can end it and just tell the other rogues that we're letting them leave because we don't want any more casualties," he tells me.

My eyes widen as I hear what he says. We did it? We really did it? "Reece's dead?"

"Yeah, a few wolves teamed up together and attacked him. They said he put up a good fight, but died within a few minutes. As soon as some of the rogues heard about it, they started to retreat," he tells me, holding his hand on his shoulder where there was a bite mark that was starting to drip blood. I reached down, ripping my shirt before placing it on the wound to help stop the bleeding for him.

I shifted back into my wolf form before letting out a loud howl, letting all my fellow wolves know that we were done and to start heading back to camp. It also let the rogues know that their master was dead and to leave before I got my hands on any of them. I watched as everyone started leaving at fast speeds, probably wanting to get home to their families like I wanted to do.

After a few hours of visiting with everyone that was transferred to the pack hospital to check how they were doing, Cody, my dad, and I got into our cars to make our way to the hotel that our mates were at. I don't know if they've even got word that fighting had ceased because it's been so hectic since it's happened, but I was so excited to see everyone. I missed Kade like crazy and my body was tingling at the idea of seeing his beautiful face again.

Cody had gotten a few stitches since his body basically ran out of healing power once his adrenaline dropped down, but it should be healed within a few days. My dad had a claw mark that didn't require stitches or anything, he just had to keep it covered until it healed. I got checked out by someone and they told me that nothing was too deep to need stitches or any treatment. The death count at the moment for our people was 37, but it could rise within the next few days since some people were still hurt pretty bad.

We had people cleaning up the field because if a human was to find that, they would report it and we would have a big issue on our hands. Even if most people in the law enforcement industry know about wolves being real, we can still get fined for leaving any evidence of our kind. So I made sure that nothing was left out there that could be suspicious and that would probably take a few days to clean up since we had to use water to wash away the blood.

Cody, my dad, and I arrive to the hotel and rush towards the elevator because we literally couldn't wait to see our people. I swipe the card before we start to ascend to the penthouse, visibly shaking with excitement. When the doors slide open, seven people look at us before throwing themselves up to attack us with hugs while they yell in excitement.

Emilie rushes over to me, throwing her arms around my body and I can tell she was super worried about what was happening. I hugged Kade's parents, Alexis and Brody, telling them that I'll be okay since apparently, Kade had gotten hurt when I got the single claw mark in my back, but that was it since everything had already healed.

My mom rushes over, hugging me hard while Dad checks in with Kade's parents. "I'm so glad you're okay."

I kiss my mom's head, glad that I was okay and I was here as well. When we separated, I looked over at Cody to see him holding Melissa on his lap as they sat on the couch. I turn my attention to Elder Collins, who pats my back with a smile. "Everything good back at home?"

I nod. "Yeah, mostly everyone's okay. A few major injuries that're getting worked on right now, but everyone else seems just glad to be back home and safe. We had some casualties, but less than any of us expected."

"That's great, I'll just step out for a second and talk to Elder Gee and see what he says," he tells me before going out to the balcony to pull his phone out.

I turn to my mom who was wrapped in my father's arms. My body was itchy with need to see my mate and make sure he was okay. "Where's Kade?"

"He passed out a few hours ago in that room," she tells me, motioning to the door on the far side of the room. I kiss her cheek before rushing towards the door.

"See you later," Cody said, giving me a small smirk as I grab the door handle. Alexis and Brody wave to us before sitting down with my parents to talk or do whatever they want. I open the bedroom door to see my beautiful mate.

My wolf instantly relaxes when we see that he was alright, sleeping peacefully on his stomach. I shut the door softly, walking over to the side of the bed that he was on. I kneel next to the bed, taking a few moments to take in how he looked. His hair was a mess, covering his face and the pillow.

I reached out, moving the strands out of his face so I was able to see him. His eyes slowly fluttered open before he blinks to focus them and when he sees that I was sitting in front of him, he shoots up to pull me on top of him with strength I didn't know he had when he just wakes up. I straddle his waist as he holds me tightly against his body as he lets out a long sigh of relief.

"When did it end?" He whispers, running his fingers through my hair as I place a light kiss on his neck to make him shiver underneath my body.

"A few hours ago. I had to deal with some stuff before I could come back. We have a lot to do once we get back," I whisper to him, letting my nose run up his neck to take in his scent to calm my wolf down that was jumping up-and-down inside me.

"We'll deal with it later," he tells me, tightening his grip on my body.

"I missed you so much," I tell him, pulling back so I could see his face. He had the biggest smile placed on his lips as he stares into my eyes. His hand slides down from my head to my neck to pull my head down to connect our lips. Sparks emit when our lips meet and I immediately realize how bad I needed him.

My lower half starts to grow against my pants as our tongues run together. I let my hips run against his as I can feel his bulge pressing against my thigh. I move my lips down to place on his neck, pressing light kisses there as he lets out a soft moan. I let my hand roam down his body, running over his chest to his stomach before rubbing against the front of his shorts.

"E-everyone's still out there," he forces out.

"It's okay, they'll figure out we're busy," I tell him. I keep placing soft kisses on his neck before getting rougher and starting to suck on the sensitive skin, making him buck his hips up to clash with mine.

He surprises me by pushing me off of him and shooting up to grab his backpack. He pulls out the clear bottle before throwing it at me while he focuses on pulling his pants off. I lay on my back, pulling my pants down to let my dick out before rubbing some of the liquid onto it. Kade crawls back on the bed before straddling me to quickly lower himself on me, letting out a moan. I reach up, covering his mouth since we were literally one door away from our families.

He leans back, setting his hands on my knees as he lifts his hips up before coming back down on my cock. My head rolls back as the pleasure consumes me as he builds up a rhythm to satisfy both of us. I make sure to keep my hand on his mouth because it would be so embarrassed if someone hears him.

I turn my head back to look at him as he continues to move his body on mine. His head is thrown back as he starts to lightly bite my hand to keep himself from letting out noises. Some of his hair starts to stick to his forehead because of his sweat, making him look even hotter than he did right now.

Kade freezes on my cock when someone knocks on our bedroom door. I look at it, just hoping that no one would walk in on us right now. I hear Cody clear his throat as my fiance keeps biting on my hand as he desperately tries not to move. "Hey, we're going to go to the restaurant downstairs, do you want us to bring you something back?"

"Yeah, that's fine!" I yell back at him as I notice that Kade's eyes were fluttering back and his hips were involuntarily starting to move on my length. I could feel my stomach building up and the last thing I wanted was to cum right now when my best friend was, literally, 10 feet away from us.

I gripped Kade's hips before launching forward to set his back against the bed while I pulled out, knowing that I was about to let go inside of him. Cody clears his throat again and I could tell that he was trying not to let Kade's parents figure out what we were doing because the only reason he even knew was because of the smell of arousal. "Well, I mean, what do you guys want?"

"Anything's fine!" I yell back and I hear his footsteps retreat from the door, making me grateful that he got the idea.

I look down at Kade to see the sheet trapped between his teeth as he holds his dick in his hands, waiting for everyone to leave before we can continue. He gives me the most innocent look he can give me as he lets go of the sheet, spreading his legs for me to see how desperate he was. I chuckle, loving how open and confident he was around me now.

"Don't make any noise just yet," I whisper to him, leaning down to take his hot cock in my mouth since I couldn't stand to not be touching him right now. I take as much of him in as my throat allows me, letting my tongue roam around to bring him more pleasure.

"Fuck," he gasps out.

I lift my mouth before sliding back on his shaft as his legs shake as they wrap around my waist. We can hear the footsteps out in the common area before the tick of the elevator sounds and they leave the penthouse. I immediately pop off his member and line the head of my cock up with him before pushing in, needing to feel him.

Kade lets out a loud moan, loving that he could make noise again. I find the right rhythm, setting my hands on his waist as I move in-and-out of his body. His head is thrown back as his mouth opens, not letting anything come out as his legs continue to shake next to mine as the pleasure consumes him. He glances back up at me for a second, giving me a weak smile. "Harder."

I listen to his demand, tightening my grip on his waist before pounding into him as he lets out a small yelp when I hit the spot. I make sure to go at the same angle to keep hitting it as his eyes roll to the back of his head and his toes curl against my skin. I smile as he starts to clench against my dick, telling me that he's close as am I. My stomach tightens and I pick up my pace, sending him even further from reality as I constantly brush against the sensitive bundle of nerves.

I let out a small whimper as I feel the release coming, leaning down to give him a passionate kiss as his stomach tightens underneath my hand. He lets out a loud groan against my lips as he lets go over both of our chests. I move my mouth down to quickly feel his mark as I release inside of him, loving the loud yell he lets go when I bite down on his skin. I keep moving inside him to ride out my release before collapsing on top of him, lightly kissing his chest.

"I missed you," I whisper against his chest.

"I missed you too," he tells me, running his hand through my hair before laying his hand on the back of my neck as he lets out a long sigh.

I can still taste the blood in my mouth and I'm immediately reminded of Monica, lying dead on the ground as she thanks me. I jump up, my back hitting the backboard of the bed as panic runs through my body. Kade sits up, reaching out to grab my hand before turning my head to look at him. My chest gets heavy as I stare at him, knowing that I need to tell him what happened, but I don't want him to hate me for making such a big mistake.

"What is it?" He whispers.

As I stare at him, I'm filled with a sense of regret for not paying closer attention to who I was fighting. I wish I could just go back in time and fix my mistake because one of the best people I've ever met would still be alive and celebrating with her family on our big win. I turn my head, not able to keep eye contact with the man in front of me. I shake my head, telling him that I can't tell him what's going on.

"Joey," he whispers, getting my attention. "whatever it is, you can tell me."

"I killed someone," I say, finding the courage to tell him. The memories of only a few hours ago continue to plague my memory and fill me with a sense of dread.

"But isn't that..." he starts, but when he notices my regretful look, his face clears of all confusion he had. He clears his throat, looking down at the hand that holds mine. "what happened?"

"She was fighting with someone on our side because their eye color was similar to a rogue's and didn't seem to notice. When she killed him, I stepped in to get revenge for the man that was just murdered. I fought with her, not realizing who she was and when I weakened her, she shifted and I saw who she was," I tell him, trying to calm down before even more panic comes into my body.

"Who was she?"

"She's a guard for me and has been ever since she turned 18, just a few months ago. She had been training for years and was so excited when I gave her the position. Her name was Monica," I whisper to him.

He pulls me into a hug, running his fingers through my hair as he holds me close. "It's okay, you didn't know who she was at the time. It's not your fault, okay? It's not your fault."

I bury my face in his shoulder, grateful that he didn't think of me as a monster for what had happened out in the field. He ushered me into a laying position before covering me with the blanket as my panic starts to lower at the fact that he didn't think I did anything wrong even if I thought so. I held my arms out for him and he buried himself in them, pressing soft kisses to my chest as I took in more of his scent to ease my wolf.

"Thank you," I whisper.

"Of course," he tells me, pulling the blanket over his shoulder as he closes his eyes as he gets comfortable on my chest. I run my hands up-and-down his back, making goosebumps appear on his skin as he lets out a sigh.

"I love you, my fiance," I tell him.

"I love you too, my fiance."
