Xavier's POV

Jamie was sitting on my lap, playing with my hair as I was in a meeting with my pack of hunters. I was sitting at my desk with my laptop in front of me, which had the documents open that Jamie had saved when he was the beta at the White Water Pack. He wasn't even looking at the computer and I was grateful because to him, he didn't remember ever typing these up.

"How are we expected to see what they're doing when their guards are surrounding the entire area?" One of my hunters asked.

"There's holes in the security everywhere. There's going to be ways that you can find it and you're going to have to have any control of the pack once I gain it." I said.

Jamie's hands were making little circles on the skin on the back of my neck to calm me down. I know that he didn't understand what was going on, but he never mentioned it. He just went along with it.

"Fine, we'll have some of my men go to the camp and see what's going on, but if they have enhanced their security-"

"Which they likely have." I said.

"Then they won't stay there. They'll come back." The lead hunter said.

"Don't tell me what you'll do. I tell you what you'll do." I snapped.

"Calm down." Jamie whispered to me, which sent chills down my spine.

"We will continue this meeting later. If you need me, I'll be up in my room." I said and stood up with Jamie. I escorted us to our room and he sat on the bed as I paced the room.

"Are you okay?" He asked me.

"What am I doing? Jamie, what the hell am I doing?!" I yelled, looking at him.

His eyes widened. "I don't know, Xavier. What are you doing?"

"Fuck, fuck, fuck." I repeated over-and-over.

"Babe, what's going on? What are you planning on doing?"

"I was going to take over the White Water Pack and gain control." I whispered and I watched as he shot off the bed to glare at me.

"You what?! What the fuck, Xavier?" He yelled at me, poking at my chest. Apparently, I haven't told him anything that's going on. I knew he wasn't going to like it because the White Water Pack was his home. That was his pack.

"I was trying to help us, Jamie! With them out of the picture, we can run the pack like it's our own." I told him. I could see tears in his frustrated tears in his eyes and he was pushing them back.

"That's the pack that we grew up in, Xavier. Before you moved away, that was our family and they still are mine. I don't know what the fuck you're thinking and why you didn't think of telling me about any of this!"

I can't tell him about Alex. I can't. There's always a chance that he'll just suddenly remember everything and leave me, but if I take over the pack, then he would leave me too. But if I don't take over the pack, then Alex can somehow take him back.

"I'm thinking that there's people looking for us, Jamie. Your mom is and probably the whole pack too."

I tried to move closer to him, but he held his hand out to ward me off. I stopped in my place as his lip started to tremble and I felt my heart sink when a tear fell.

"I t-thought you were gonna kill off a rogue pack. I never thought you were going to take over my pack." He whispered, wiping the tear away.

His pack? Was he starting to remember that he was the beta? "W-what do you mean by your pack?"

"I mean that it's the pack I grew up in! I mean that it's the only pack that I've ever known!" He screamed at me and I could hear the fear in his voice.

"Baby, I'm protecting us!" I yelled at him.

"I can't even stand to look at you right now. I need to get away from you." He whispered and started towards the door.

"No, don't leave! I won't do it, Jamie! I won't! If you don't want me to take over the pack, then I won't. I-I promise." I whispered.

He, slowly, turned towards me and more tears had seemed to have fallen. "You promise me that no harm will come to the White Water Pack? You promise that you won't even think of touching them?"

"Y-yes, I promise." I whispered.

"If you're lying to me, Xavier, I'll fucking kill you myself." He glared. I knew he didn't mean it because he still thinks we're real mates and you can't handle the loss of your mate.

"I'm not, baby, now come sit down with me." I whispered, motioning him towards me.

He hesitated when he started to walk towards me, but ended up sitting next to me. I used the pads of my thumbs to wipe away his tears. He couldn't look me in the eyes because he kept looking away from me.

"I'm sorry. I don't know what I was thinking. I knew it would've upset you, but I thought that it was best for us." I whispered, running my hand through his hair.

He looked into my eyes. "If my mom or anyone in the pack finds me, I can handle them because all I want is to be with you, Xavier. I don't care about them, but I don't want any harm to be put on them."

"You miss your mom, Jamie," I whispered. "I can tell by the way you talk about her."

He looked away from me. "I do, but I-I'm okay."

"Are you really?"

"If I'm with you, then yes." He whispered, leaning up and kissing me, softly.

A thought hit me and I gave Jamie a confused look. "What happened to our bond, Jamie?"

His eyes widened. "You don't remember?"

It's not that I don't remember, it's that I never knew. "No, I don't."

"W-we had an elder bring us closer together because at the beginning of our relationship, the bond was there, but it was barely there. The elder said that our bond would never be strong enough to where we could read each others' minds or anything like that, but when he brought us together, it diminished it completely." He told me with depression clear in his voice. I pulled him into a hug.

"Even if our bond isn't there, we're still mates." I lied because the only one who truly doesn't know that we aren't mates is him.

"Yeah, I know. I just want to feel you. I want to feel you inside of me."

I gave him a confused look. "Well, baby, we can always do that."

His eyes widened and a chuckle left his body. "Not what I meant. I meant that I want to feel you sifting through my thoughts and I want to feel every part of you inside of my body. I want to know what you're thinking."

"You want to know what I'm thinking?"

"Yeah, I do." He whispered.

"I'm thinking of you and how much I absolutely love and adore you." I whispered.

He smiled and pushed my back on the bed, so he could straddle my body. We started to kiss and it began to be intense, so I flipped us over so I was the one giving him pleasure.

I slipped out of the room as Jamie slept. I had been very rough this time, like all the time, and he was extremely exhausted and I needed him to sleep while I started to talk to my hunters. I walked into their office where the two main hunters were and they looked up at me.

"I have a new rule for this." I told them, sitting in a chair across from them.

"What is it, Xavier?" The boss asked me.

"Jamie can't have any part of this. He can't even know that we're doing it."

"How're we supposed to do it then?" One of them snapped at me.

"I'm going to make sure that he is asleep or working on something while we have meetings. He will have little interaction with your men and he will think that what we're actually doing is killing off a rogue pack."

"What're you gonna do when you take over the pack?"

"I'm gonna tell him and if he's mad, then he'll get over it because to him, we're mates and we can't possibly be separated."

"What do we get out of this?" One of them asked.

"You know what you're getting, must I remind you?" I snapped.

"Yes."

"You get a quarter of the White Water Pack and they have all of the details to the locations of other packs. You get all of that and all you have to do is bring me a quarter of those packs, so I can rebuild the new White Water Pack."

"Fine, we'll do it. Just make sure Jamie stays away from all of our men's quarters."

"Okay, now, did you send out some of your men to check and see if they've heightened security and what they seem to be doing?"

"Yes, we did. They left about 30 minutes ago."

"Good, call me down when you know what's going on."

I walked out of the office and went back to my room. Jamie was sitting up in bed with my laptop on his lap. His eyes shot up when he heard me walk in and he gave me a soft smile.

"Hey, baby." He said.

"Hey, what're you up to?" I asked him, taking my pants off.

"I'm looking at clothes online." He asked, not taking his eyes off of the screen.

"You wanna get some stuff?" I asked him.

"Can I?"

"Of course, baby. Get anything you want." I said, handing him my card that was in my wallet on the bedside table.

He gave me a soft kiss when I climbed into bed with him. "I love you."

"I love you too, Jamie." I whispered.

I watched as he scrolled through some website, looking at clothes and adding stuff to the cart. I sighed and he looked down at me. "What's going on?"

"I'm not going to take over the White Water Pack, I promised you that, but you gave me an idea."

"Idea?" He asked, closing the laptop and setting it on the ground next to the bed.

"You said that you thought I was-" I started.

"Going to kill off a rogue pack. Is that what you want to do now?"

"Yes and I think it's best that you stay out of it all, baby. I know you don't like violence and I don't want to upset you with all of this talk of it."

He nodded, running his hands over the soft, gray bedspread. "O-okay, but does this mean that I'll see you less?"

"It's a lot of planning, babe, but I will be in here every second that I'm free to spend as much time with you as I can." I said and I hated lying to him about what the meetings were actually going to be about, but I knew that if he knew, I wouldn't be allowed to do it.

"Okay, good. I can't stand to be away from you that long." He whispered, crawling into my lap. I gave him a soft smile as he closed his eyes and set his head against my chest.

"I love you so much, baby."

"I love you so much too."

"I'm gonna protect you, no matter what, okay?"

"Okay."
