↳ ❝DO I LOOK
NERVOUS TO
YOU?❞
Chris shifted his weight, the anticipation making him fidget as he waited in line at the florist shop. His eyes wandered around the cozy space, taking in the beautiful arrangements that adorned the shelves.
"You nervous?" Nick asked, breaking his train of thought as their eyes met.
Chris pursed his lips, trying to gauge his own emotions. "Do I look nervous to you?" he replied, genuinely seeking Nick's perception.
Nick glanced at him, a playful smile tugging at his lips. "A little," he confessed, snapping a photo of the charming shop for his Instagram. "It's not a bad thing, just an observation."
As the line inched forward, Chris mulled over Nick's words. Truth be told, he was nervous, even though he knew he had little reason to be. But there was something about this moment that had him on edge. He couldn't help the flutter of nerves in his stomach as he finally reached the counter of the florist shop.
"Can I have bouquets of white and pink Roses delivered?" Chris asked the florist, trying to sound confident despite the butterflies in his stomach.
They were Lovette's favourite flowers. She had casually mentioned it while they were watching "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" together, a movie she had chosen. It was during that iconic office flower scene when she had absentmindedly revealed her preference for roses. Chris had smiled at the revelation, tucking away the information in his mind like a precious secret.
"Certainly," the friendly florist replied with a warm smile. "And would you like to include a note with the bouquets?"
Chris hesitated for a moment, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. Writing a note felt like a significant step, and he wanted to choose his words carefully. He thought about the countless text messages and conversations he and Lovette had, the laughter and the shared moments.
"Yeah, I'd like to write a note," Chris said, finally finding his voice. He glanced at the selection of cards on display, searching for one that would convey the right sentiment.
After selecting a simple yet elegant card with soft pink hues, he took a deep breath and tried to articulate his thoughts. The pen felt heavy in his hand as he started to write, his heart guiding the words. He read the note over several times, making sure each word resonated with his feelings. Satisfied, he folded the card and handed it to the florist, who placed it delicately with the bouquets.
Now all that was left was to wait and see how Lovette would react to his surprise. The anticipation grew, but he couldn't help but smile, knowing that he had put his heart into this gesture. Whether Lovette felt the same way or not, he had taken a chance, and that was what mattered most.

Lovette felt the weariness of the day seeping into her bones as she dozed off on the couch. It had been a long and taxing day, with a gruelling computer science midterm that left her brain feeling fried. All she wanted was a moment of respite, a chance to recharge her energy before taking on the world again. Just as her eyelids drooped, the doorbell rudely interrupted her escape into dreamland. She let out a tired sigh, mustering the strength to peel herself off the cozy cushions.
As she opened the door, her eyes met with an unfamiliar face – a delivery man holding a clipboard.
"Delivery for," he checked the clipboard, "Lovette Jarmon."
Her brow furrowed in confusion. "Yes, that's me."
Lovette couldn't recall ordering anything recently. The last time she did, it was Christmas gifts for her siblings, and that seemed like ages ago.
The delivery man then revealed a magnificent bouquet of pink and white roses, causing Lovette's mouth to hang open in astonishment.
"These are for me?" she asked, her voice tinged with disbelief as she gingerly accepted the lavish bouquet.
The courier smiled warmly. "Yes, they are."
Still in shock, Lovette placed the bouquet carefully on the kitchen counter, her eyes catching sight of a folded note nestled amidst the blossoms. She reached for it, unfolding the delicate paper with trembling fingers. The message inside read:
"Lovie,
I read somewhere that roses symbolize appreciation, and I can't think of a more fitting flower for you. I also thought you deserved some flowers after your midterm (which I know you aced).
Even though our first date wasn't what I imagined, you being there made it a million times better. Your presence has a way of brightening up any situation. I find myself smiling more when I'm with you, and I want to experience that happiness more often.
So, I've been meaning to ask you something. "
Lovette read the note over and over again, a warm feeling settling in her chest. She couldn't help but feel giddy at the thought of Chris asking her something significant. As she turned the note over, she realized it seemed unfinished. Her brow furrowed with curiosity, and she scanned the back, only to find it blank. Just as she was about to wonder what it meant, the doorbell rang again.
With a gentle smile, she returned to the note, clutching it in her hand as she made her way to the door. Her heart fluttered in anticipation, eager to see Chris again and find out what he wanted to ask her.
"Lovie?" Chris's voice called out, and she looked up to see him standing there with a single rose in his hand. The sight of him made her heart skip a beat, and she couldn't help but feel a rush of happiness.
"You have a question for me?" she asked, her voice tinged with excitement and curiosity.
Chris stepped over the threshold of her house, his eyes never leaving hers. He looked handsome, a hint of nervousness in his smile that made him even more endearing. Lovette found herself momentarily captivated by his lips, the urge to kiss him overwhelming. She took the pink rose from his hand, twirling it nervously between her fingers.
"Can I be your boyfriend?" Chris finally asked, his voice soft and full of hope.
Lovette's eyes widened slightly, surprised yet elated by his question. The rose in her hand felt like a symbol of his affection, and her heart swelled with warmth. She wanted to say yes, to let him know that she felt the same way, but the words seemed to catch in her throat. Instead, she mustered a shy smile, trying to put into words what she was feeling.
"I... I'd really like that," she finally managed to say, her voice laced with happiness and a touch of vulnerability. "Yes, Chris, I'd love to be your girlfriend."
The joy in Chris's eyes mirrored her own, and he let out a sigh of relief. He took a step closer to her, closing the distance between them. Lovette's heart raced, and she could feel the electricity in the air as he gently cupped her cheek as he kissed her softly.
Lovette couldn't help but lean into his touch, savouring the moment. When her arms wrapped around his neck, and his around her waist, a sense of comfort and familiarity washed over them. The weight of their newfound relationship settled in, but it felt surprisingly light, like a gentle breeze on a warm summer day.
As they held each other, Lovette realized that this was exactly where she wanted to be— in Chris's arms, feeling safe and cherished.
