↳ ❝ PLEASE, DO NOT EMBARRASS ME.

Lovette's determination to clean was unwavering, a coping mechanism she resorted to when stress took hold. As Chris' visit approached, she found herself engulfed in a cleaning frenzy, even though the house was already spotless. Every corner was subjected to her meticulous scrutiny, every item carefully arranged. Perfection was her pursuit.

In stark contrast, Levi embraced his messy nature, never feeling the compulsion to clean with such fervour. He watched Lovette's cleaning frenzy with a mixture of amusement and bemusement.

"Love, why are you cleaning underneath the kitchen island?" he called out, his voice laced with playful curiosity.

Her response was muffled, but Levi managed to decipher her words, "It's dirty."

Chuckling, he crouched down and crawled under the island to join his sister. "Trust me, they're not going to be inspecting beneath here," he reassured her. "Everything is clean, Lovette."

She pursed her lips, still plagued by doubt. "The living room?"

"Clean," Levi affirmed.

"The bathrooms?" she persisted.

Suppressing a laugh, he replied, "You've cleaned them twice already."

"What about the game room?"

"All good to go," he confirmed.

Knowing Lovette's anxiety in moments like these, Levi chose reassurance over teasing. He understood her nerves and the need for everything to be just right.

"You should take a break, indefinitely," he suggested, gently urging her to step away from her cleaning frenzy.

"I can't," Lovette protested.

Levi guffawed. "Yes, you can. The house is cleaner than it was when Maeve moved in."

She closed her eyes, attempting to heed her brother's advice. Lovette conceded that Levi was right. She definitely needed to get out from underneath the kitchen island. Removing her rubber gloves, she shot her brother a warning look. "Please, do not embarrass me."

"That's a lot to ask from me," Levi quipped, his tone playful.

"Levi," Lovette whined.

"Alright, I'll add it to my to-do list," he said, feigning seriousness.

The tension in Lovette's body seemed to dissipate at his words.

"You mind cleaning my room? Since you're in a cleaning mood," he cheekily added.

"Fuck off," Lovette playfully retorted, throwing the gloves at her brother.

As the minutes ticked by, Lovette found herself sitting nervously in her room. She had shed her cleaning attire and opted for a more casual outfit, though not without considerable deliberation. Getting ready had proven to be a challenge in itself, as she had changed her outfit three different times. Each time, the reason for the change seemed slightly different from the last. Lovette needed to keep herself occupied, so she turned her attention to preparing snacks. With each item arranged to her heart's desire, she couldn't help but wonder if Chris was even half as nervous as she was.

Ironically enough, Chris found himself in a similar predicament. Despite the comfort of having his brothers by his side, his nerves threatened to overwhelm him. The countless outfit changes in front of the mirror reflected his uncertainty.

"You look good," Nick offered, attempting to reassure Chris as he observed the fifth outfit Chris had pulled out to wear.

Chris huffed, his uncertainty still lingering. He nervously bit his lip, meeting Nick's gaze in the mirror. "Are you sure?"

Nick nodded, a supportive smile playing on his lips. "I'm sure."

Chris pursed his lips, glancing at the time on his phone once more to ensure they wouldn't be late. The ticking of time served as a reminder that the moment they had all been anticipating was drawing near.

Matt leans casually against the door frame. "We should leave now," he announced.

Clearing his throat, Chris attempted to calm his racing heart as he mechanically prepared himself to head to Lovette's house. His movements felt detached, as if he were on autopilot, his mind preoccupied with the impending encounter. Before he realized it, they were standing before her grand house, its imposing presence taking him aback.

"Jesus Christ, this house is fucking huge!" Nick exclaimed, his voice filled with awe as they exited the car.

Chris paid little attention to Nick's remark, his focus fixated on climbing the porch steps, mentally bracing himself before he dared to knock. Anxious energy coursed through his veins as he absentmindedly played with the chain around his neck, seeking a distraction.

Matt's reassuring hand landed on Chris' shoulder, grounding him in the present. "You good?" he asked, genuine concern etched in his features.

Before Chris could form a response, the door swung open, revealing Levi standing on the other side.

"Hey, Come on in!" he exclaimed, extending his arms in a welcoming gesture.

Chris, Nick, and Matt stepped inside, their eyes widening in awe as they took in the grandeur of Lovette and Levi's spacious home. The foyer was adorned with elegant furnishings and a magnificent staircase that seemed to lead to another world.

Following Levi's lead, they made their way through the house, their footsteps echoing in the hallway. The aroma of something delicious wafted through the air, drawing their attention to the heart of the home—the kitchen.

And there, amidst the stainless steel appliances and gleaming countertops, stood Lovette, a proud smile on her face as she held a tray of freshly baked cookies. "Hey, you made it!" she greeted them, her voice filled with warmth.

Chris's nerves began to ease as he caught sight of Lovette. "Yeah, we made it," he replied, a hint of relief in his voice. The nervousness that had plagued him seemed to dissipate in her presence.

Nick's eyes lit up at the sight of the cookies. "Oh those look really good!" he exclaimed, already reaching out to grab one. "These are fucking amazing."

"Thank you," Lovette replied, feeling flush with pride.

Levi, sensing an opportunity to escape, interjected with a grin. "I've got to set up the PS5," he announced, already heading toward the game room. "I'll be right back."

With that, he disappeared down the hallway, leaving Lovette, Chris, Nick, and Matt to enjoy each other's company in the kitchen. Lovette motioned for them to take a seat at the island, where the aroma of freshly baked cookies filled the air. The nervousness that had gripped Chris earlier seemed to melt away in the warm company of his brothers and Lovette's welcoming presence.

"What game did you guys want to play?" Matt asked while reaching for another cookie.

Lovette glanced at Chris, "It's some horror game called 'The Quarry'. It has a multiplayer function, so it should be fun. You guys can head to the basement, it's the first door on the left. I'll be there in a minute."

Matt and Nick found their way to the basement, leaving Chris and Lovette alone in the kitchen.

"You don't want to head to the basement?" Lovette asked, her eyebrows raised.

Chris's gaze lingered on her, a flicker of nervousness resurfacing. "Wanted to see if you need help with anything up here before I left," he simply explained, his voice slightly softer.

A part of him selfishly longed to spend a few more moments with her, away from the distractions of the game and the presence of others. His eyes inadvertently trailed over her lips, the desire to kiss her flickering momentarily in his mind, before quickly redirecting his attention to the marble counter, hoping she hadn't noticed his lapse in focus.

But she did notice. And she didn't mind at all. In fact, she quite enjoyed the way he looked at her, causing a pleasant flutter in her stomach.

A breathless laugh escaped Lovette's lips, her tone airy and teasing. "You're cute," she remarked, her words carrying a lightness that made Chris's cheeks flush with a rosy hue.

Clearing his throat, Chris attempted to find his words, but they stumbled out in a flustered manner, intensifying his embarrassment.

Suppressing a giggle, Lovette bit her lip, her eyes dancing with amusement. "Has no one ever called you cute before?"

People had, and he knew it. Being a YouTuber brought its fair share of compliments. But there was something different about hearing it from Lovette, something that made his heart skip a beat.

"Different coming from you," he managed to say, his voice tinged with honesty, accompanied by a shrug.

Curiosity flickered in Lovette's eyes as she tilted her head slightly. "Good different or bad different?" she inquired, her words laced with playful anticipation.

A soft chuckle escaped Chris's throat, the tension in his body easing. "Definitely good different," he admitted, a smile spreading across his face, unable to contain his genuine delight.

Lovette's lips curled into a playful grin. "Well, if you still want to, you can help me take some snacks downstairs." She gestured toward the countertop, where a variety of treats awaited.

A smile tugged at the corners of Chris's mouth as he nodded in agreement. "Sure, I'd love to."

Lovette leaned against the kitchen counter, her eyes sparkling with a mix of playfulness and curiosity. She took a step closer to Chris, their proximity creating an unspoken connection that felt both exhilarating and comforting.

As Chris looked into Lovette's eyes, he couldn't help but notice the gentle warmth emanating from within her. The flicker of nervousness that had resurfaced seemed to intertwine with a blossoming sense of anticipation. Their gaze held for a lingering moment, charged with unspoken words and unexplored possibilities. It was as if the air between them crackled with an electric current, creating a magnetic pull that neither could resist.

With a graceful motion, Lovette reached for a small platter of snacks on the countertop, her fingers grazing against Chris' as she did. The subtle touch sent a shiver down his spine, leaving a trail of goosebumps in its wake. With a knowing smile, Lovette gestured for Chris to follow her, her steps light and graceful as they descended the stairs to the basement.

The dimly lit basement welcomed them with its cozy atmosphere, the soft glow of ambient lighting casting a warm and intimate glow over the space. Lovette set the platter of snacks on a nearby table, her eyes never leaving Chris'. As they settled into the couch, their shoulders almost touching, a gentle tension hung in the air.

Their fingers brushed against each other again as they reached for snacks, the subtle touch sending a jolt of electricity through Chris's veins.

"Nick, shoot the damn thing!" Matt shouts, his voice laced with equal parts frustration and amusement.

Nick glares at the screen, his fingers frantically tapping the controller buttons. "I swear this controller is possessed! It never does what I want!"

Levi chuckles, trying his best to offer some guidance. "Okay, Nick, remember, it's the R1 button."

Nick rolls his eyes. "Yeah, I know it's the R1 button. It's just that this controller has a vendetta against me."

The room erupts in laughter, the tension momentarily dissolved by their shared amusement. It seems that playing a horror game has unleashed a new kind of horror—a comedic disaster that has befallen Nick's character. Even though Matt had offered countless warnings and advice, it seemed that Nick's choices had an uncanny ability to steer him directly into trouble.

"I swear, if your character had a brain, it would probably run away from you," Matt teases, unable to contain his laughter.

Nick grumbles, "Hey, it's all part of my strategy. I'm just keeping things interesting, you know?"

Levi joins in, adding fuel to the fire. "Yeah, Nick, the game would be too easy without you."

The tension of the game is momentarily forgotten as the teens erupt in laughter again. It's in these moments of lighthearted banter and friendly jabs that their friendship deepens. The horror game may have been the catalyst, but it's the camaraderie and shared laughter that truly makes the night memorable.

Sitting shoulder-to-shoulder, Lovette whispers to Chris, her voice barely audible above the laughter, "This is going a lot better than I thought it would."

Chris tears his eyes away from the screen, momentarily captivated by the warmth in Lovette's gaze. His heart skips a beat, and he fumbles for a moment, trying to find his words amidst the chaotic joy surrounding them.

A mischievous smile plays at the corners of his mouth as he replies, his voice barely more than a breath, "Yeah, I think the real horror game is Nick's questionable decision-making."

Lovette's eyes sparkle, and she leans in closer, her laughter blending with his. "I actually meant this hangout. I was a little nervous about it if I'm being honest."

Chris's heart flutters and he musters up the courage to speak softly, his words filled with sincerity. "I was too. But I'm glad you invited us."

"Glad you showed up." Lovette smiles, her voice carrying a hint of playfulness.

Their exchange is interrupted by boisterous laughter from their siblings, drawing their attention back to the game. The night is no longer about the horror game or their nerves—it's about the simple joy of being together.
