Chapter 4 - Chloe
"Ah Saturday! How I love you" I exclaim, opening up my windows.
I tread carefully around the mattress and blonde mess lying on my floor, careful not to wake her. After yesterday, I've been thinking of the perfect moment to tell Chloe I'm helping Jesse. And since I don't want to be a bad friend and keep it from her even longer, I'm gonna tell her today.
I open up the window closest to my bed and look outside. Across the street, our elderly neighbor Bertha is watering her flowers. It's entertaining to watch her because she waters all the flowers then goes back to the first lot again, forgetting that she's watered it already. I giggle to myself as she reaches the first lot and scratches her head, ready to begin again.
I glance across to Jesse's window, which just happens to be directly opposite mine, and gasp. Jesse was fresh out of the shower with only a towel wrapped tightly around him.
"Oh my God!" I squeal in shock, drawing my curtains shut.
"What's up?" Chloe asks in a quirky tone, making me jump at the sound of her voice.
"Jeez, Chloe. You scared me" I reply, clutching my chest.
"What were you looking at?" She asks curiously, walking over to the window.
"It's nothing, just Bertha" I lie, hoping she would just go back to sleep.
"Oh, let me-- Oh my gosh! Oh my--" she exclaims as she drew open the curtains and gaped at the boy next door.
"He's gonna catch you looking" I tell her, trying to get her to shut the damn curtains.
"I just caught you looking!" She replies, turning her attention back outside.
"Whatever!" I mumble, rolling my eyes. I leave the room and head for the bathroom, getting away from her before she asks me questions.
I try to push the bathroom door open but it's locked. Why am I suprised? It's probably Valerie doing something new to her face.
"Val! Open up!" I yell, banging on the door.
"One second!" She yells back.
I lean on the door and cross my arms, trying not to think of peeing. After a few seconds she opens up and I almost jump in fright when I see her face covered in some black stuff.
"Ew, you look gross" I comment as I rush over to empty my bladder.
"It may look gross now, but my skin will be glowing with perfection once I peel it off. You'll see" Val replies smartly before leaving.
I roll my eyes at her and continue on with my business. My mind somehow drifts back to last night. I can't seem to get that smug look out of my head. The quicker I get Jesse and Lyla back together, the better it would be for me. Maybe then he'd disappear from my thoughts.
On the other hand I have a clueless blonde in my room. I groan out loud as I think of how I'm going to tell Chloe and how she would react. What have I gotten myself into? You're an idiot, Rosalie.
After freshening up, I exit the bathroom area and head back to my room, ready to face Chloe. I take a deep breath and exhale loudly before opening the door and stepping inside.
Chloe is sprawled across my bed with her phone in her hand. I take a seat on the edge of the bed and give one last thought as to what I'm going to say.
"Why do you look like you murdered someone in the bathroom?" Chloe says, giving me a shock.
"Oh. No. .I. .We should probably head downstairs for breakfast" I tell her with a smile.
"Okay, well let me get freshened up then" Chloe replies, getting up off the bed and making her way to the bathroom.
I change out of my pj's and into a top and a pair of shorts. I manage to fix my hair and tie it in a bun on the top of my head.
Looks floppy but eh, who cares?

Chloe and I make our way downstairs and into the kitchen. Dad is reading the paper with a cup of coffee in his hand, like he did every morning. Mom is busy frying eggs and Valerie, being the twig that she is, is whipping up a green, icky-looking smoothie. Just ew!
Chloe sits down and helps herself to some cereal while I grab two glasses for our orange juice. I sit beside her and listen as she made small talk with dad.
"You know, Jesse seems like the son I never had. Just watching a game with him makes me wish I could trade one of my daughters for him" Dad says with a smile, still looking down at the paper.
"Dad!" Valerie exclaims with wide eyes. "We're right here."
"Oh, didn't notice that sweetie" Dad replies sarcastically, grabbing his coffee and moving out of the kitchen.
This man was full of sarcasm. Sometimes I think that's where I got it from.
I turn slowly and look at Chloe. She's sipping on her juice and eyeing dad. Probably thinking of what he said about Jesse. I hope she doesn't ask again. Valerie would rat me out in an instant.
"Hey Mr.D---"
"Chloe, come on. I have to tell you something. It's urgent!" I cut her off.
She looks weirdly at me but soon stands up and follows me out to the back porch, where I sat with Jesse last night.
"What's up?" She asks with furrowed brows, clearly suspicious because of my behavior.
I take a deep breath and exhale, ready to spill.
"Sit down. I have to tell you something."
