Ch.2: Beautiful Stray

I went to Apollo, my favourite gay bar. There is always a chance of meeting some interesting object there. And I felt, that I was in a desperate need of love.

The bar wasn't very full. I made my way to the middle of the room, where the bartender's kingdom was.

And this bartender is a good friend of mine. His name is Diego and he is half Spanish. He smiled widely, when he saw me.

"Oh, look at you, I thought, that you won't come here anymore! Welcome back, Avery!", Diego said, shining like the sun. I smiled at him and took a seat at the bar. "Hi, Diego, nice to see you again. I was busy last days, promoting my latest book in Germany." "I see now, our famous writer travels the world," Diego grinned. "What will it be? As usual?", he asked, referring to my favourite mixed drink pina colada. Nobody was able to make it so delicious, as Diego was.

I took a look around. "Everything looks the same, nothing has changed," I said. "Any nice objects here tonight?" Diego was preparing my drink. "Find it out yourself, hermano," he threw the shaker up in the air and caught it immediately. Then he poured the drink into the glass and handed it to me. "This one's on me. Good to have you back, amigo." "Thanks a lot, Diego," I thanked him, pleased. He had some stuff to do, so I just enjoyed my drink and watched the life in the bar. Gosh, how I missed this place. And Diego's pina colada, of course.

In about half an hour, a strange boy caught my attention. He sat down at the bar just opposite me. But I couldn't look anywhere else than at him.

The boy was exceptionally beautiful. I didn't remember, if I ever saw somebody so beautiful before. But I wondered, who let him in, because he couldn't be eighteen years old. No way! He looked...13? 14? I had no idea. He must have been at least 18, otherwise he couldn't sit here, ordering something from Diego. I admit, there are people looking younger than they actually are. Maybe he is one of them.

I kept on looking at him in quiet awe. The boy finally caught my eye, smiled shyly at me, and took a sip from his drink. I ordered another drink from Diego and asked: "Diego, do you know the boy opposite me?" Diego leaned towards me and muffled his voice. "He was here several times, always with some man older than him. But this is the first time, he's here all by himself." "Is he even eighteen?", I asked. "Dunno, I haven't asked him. But he always looked happy when he was here. He seems to be sad today."

I looked at the boy. He was like a stray kitten. Like he has lost his way home. His hair was a bit messy, brown colour. As far as I could see, he had blue or grey eyes, but they could as well be green. He wore a light blue shirt with short sleeves. I stared at him, because he attracted me like a magnet.

When I saw, that he finished his drink, I called at Diego. He leaned towards me again. "What was he drinking?" "Who, the boy? Just a soda." "Please, give him another one and say, that it's from me." "As you wish, sir," Diego patted my hand and went to get the soda. I could see the surprise on the boy's beautiful face, when Diego gave him a glass of soda, saying it's from me. The boy looked at me. I could see in the light of the bar, that his cheeks blushed a little. Gosh, how cute he is! His lips moved and I could read a "thank you" from his lips. I shook my head a little and smiled at him, what was like "you're welcome". And I was thinking about some way, how to approach him.

When I looked at my watches, I found out, it was midnight already. And the boy was still there. I needed to go to the toilet, so I made my way there. The bar wasn't full today, it was Wednesday and it usually is full on Friday and on Saturday.

I went out of the cabin, about to wash my hands, and there was the boy, washing his hands. When he saw me in the mirror, he smiled friendly and continued his washing.

"Hello", I greeted him. "Hello", he greeted back and started to dry his hands. "You look so lonely, would you mind a company?" I asked. He smiled and said: "No, I wouldn't mind it. But let's sit at the table, can we?" "Alright."

We left the toilets and found a table in the corner of the room. We sat there.

"My name is Avery, nice to meet you," I started the conversation. "I'm Killian, pleasure to meet you."

With a closer look at him, I realized, that he is beautiful even more. He had green eyes, which smiled even when his mouth was not smiling. There were short, but thick hairs on his arms. Yeah, I did notice the details.

"Forgive me my curiosity, please, but... How old are you? You don't look as an eighteen years old," I said. He blushed again and I knew for sure, that I'm completely in love with him. He looked into my eyes. "I tell you the truth, but promise, that you won't call the bouncer. I don't want to be kicked out of here." "I promise." "Okay. I turned seventeen two weeks ago," Killian said. "You look younger. Like a 13 years old," I said. "People tell me that. I do look young, I admit, but I am seventeen for real." "But how did you pass the bouncer?" "I have a fake ID card. It says, that I'm eighteen." This boy really was a surprise. "Maybe I will explain it next time, but not now, I'm sorry," Killian said and I knew, that I shouldn't insist.

"Do your parents know, you're here?", I asked cautiously, trying to sound not so nosey. He looked away and said: "I don't have parents. Don't want to talk about it." "I'm sorry..." "No need to be sorry. Let's talk about something else, please."

Killian looked sad, but I needed to know, where he is staying the night. "Killian, sorry for asking, but do you have somewhere to sleep tonight?" "Yeah... Yeah, I...have," he didn't sound very convincing. I looked him straight into eyes. The truth was written there. He doesn't have anywhere to sleep. But it wasn't time to ask questions.

"Killian, I offer you to sleep over in my house. Do you agree?" He looked at me, utterly surprised. "Umm... Thank you, but I don't want to bother you. And I'm sure, that your boyfriend will mind it." "You are not bothering me. And I don't have a boyfriend. I have a house with a room for guests, you can sleep there."

Killian seemed to think about it. He looked like he had no place to go. Maybe he will tell me his story someday.

"Okay. I accept your offer. But I want to be sure, that it will not bother you," Killian said. "You are not bothering me. Just be my guest. Now can we go?" I suggested. Killian looked relieved. "I don't know, if I can thank you enough, Avery."

I was surprised, how this boy trusted me. He went home with a stranger, what could end badly. But not in my case. I was determined to help Killian the best I could.
