Was life always so dull?

Everything is just repeat vintage movie playing at an old theater with nothing but the same plot playing. With nothing but silence would fill the movie theater, the silent hum echoing while the tape rolls with the same typical plot. Typical really, the girl falls in love with a boy, boy in love then he cheats on her and now girl is heartbroken. And now everything is plain black and white once again.

A repeat in the same old vintage movie with the same old plot starting from beginning to end. It ended the same. So what's the point in searching for something that seem nearly impossible to obtain? Through her eyes only black and white was present, yet in this world once you find love you see the beautiful colors of the world, something everyone craves. Once you have a taste of the colors of the world you crave more. Wanting to feel that joy and appeal of the world. The way the flowers bloomed and the sunsets along with fruits from the trees. Even as simple as the color of the sky did rarely people see the actual color.

But Y/n hasn't been able to see color for a while now. Her eyes dull and held no color. She's seen color yes, but it disappears the moment the boy leaves her. How could she possibly enjoy life with nothing but black and white being present in her eyes? Without color everything seem so dull and colorless. Literally. It left her bitter and no longer have the will to show any emotions. Her eyes held no sparkle nor any happiness. Just dullness. Just how was she supposed to enjoy life without colors? Would she really ever find true love?

Y/n leaned forward on the table, her eyes scanning the book with interest. A pile of books lay next to her and her glasses slowly falling off her nose as her head dipped to the book. Using her index finger to push up her glasses to keep them from falling off her nose. She was just lost in the wonderful land of books. Possibly the only thing she'll get related to color of any sort.

"Y/n."

Y/n blinked, perking her head up with a pout. She already knew who it was. A hand wrapped around her shoulders and leaned their cheek on her head.

"What do you want Joon?" She stared forward blankly, her hands closing the book with a sigh. She once again pushed upwards her glasses.

"What do you mean what do I want? We were suppose to go bike riding today and here you are reading." The said man pouted. Y/n turned her head to face the male. He had ashy blonde hair pulled back and hidden away behind his beanie. Wearing a green sweatshirt and jeans with a light brown strap bag hanged across his chest. He looked extremely comfortable and huggable.

She couldn't necessarily see the green sweatshirt but with the different shade of gray it was she figured it was green. His blonde hair he's been having since she started dating back then and it hasn't changed since then. Besides the minor roots coming back and the blonde slowly fading.

"That was today? Oh well can't we just stay in and read? It's too bright outside." Y/n suggested, opening her book once again to begin reading. Namjoon rolled his eyes and snatched the book from her grasp.

"As much as I love reading and studying, we need the sun and it's beautiful outside. Come on little nerd." He took her hand and gently moved off her off the seat. Y/n sighed, taking her books with her, holding them close to her chest as Namjoon dragged her out of the library. His other hand still holding onto the book she had.

"But Joon it's too bright outside, and that requires legs which is something I don't wanna use. And my thighs are gonna be sore and so is my as-"

"Ohhh okay! Look, it's good for you to get outside, now stop being lazy and let's go."

"Whatever, but I'm not a nerd you are. You study, for fun." Y/n huffed, lightly squeezing his hand back. Namjoon grinned, now stopping in his tracks. He gently took the books from her hand and placed them in his satchel. Y/n frowned, her fingers still wrapped against his.

"That's my book-"

"Calm down darling, I'm just holding them for you. Also to keep your focus on me, your best friend." His dimpled smile appeared as he pointed to himself. His million dollar smile nearly won her over. See they have been friends for nearly seven years now. Y/n was a much brighter child with her heart more hopeful for love. And Namjoon was a quiet nerdy boy who would careless about seeing color. They met when they were 13, when poor Namjoon was getting bullied his princess in shining armor came in with her two fists and bloody nose. No literally, she ended back with a bloody nose once done fighting the boys. Ever since then, they've been friends and now, as young college students. The ironic part is that it seem years later they switched personalities completely. Suddenly Y/n could careless about color and Namjoon craved it.

"I do keep my focus on you." Y/n defended, with a slight pout. Sometimes her old personality would slip through from her new one. Not her fault when she dated so many people only for her self love to decrease by each person. Her self worth just dropped with barely anything left. The only one holding her up was him, her Best Friend.

"Now that I know for a fact is a lie. It's always on something else or someone else. And keep your eyes focus on me, and me only!" Namjoon grinned, flickering her forehead. Y/n hissed in pain, rubbing her new bruise.

"Okay okay I will. Now let's just go, as long as you describe the ocean to me again." Y/n demands. Namjoon's gaze soften with a nod.

"Of course."

Now could Namjoon see color? Y/n knew he can. He didn't tell her for years before he accidentally let it slip when he told her what color he was dying his hair. Now who did Namjoon like? She didn't know. In order to see color you have to be in love. But whenever she brought it up, he'll brush it aside claiming it's wasn't important. Of course clearly it was. Whatever the reason is, he never told her and she stopped asking after a while.

"Good! Now after we go to the ocean I demand some ice cream!" Y/n huffed. Namjoon chuckled, his hand squeezing hers tightly.

"Yeah yeah. Now let's go."

🥀🥀🥀🥀

"It got colder." Y/n sighed, gripping her ice cream cup. She leaned against her friend as her eyes stared forward watching the waves hush through the water. Namjoon hummed his eyes flickering towards her small figure. She was slowly curling up to him whether she was conscious about it or not didn't matter to him. He wrapped his arm around her to push her closer towards him. They were both sitting on the sand with a blanket underneath them to keep the sand from sticking to their pants. Their bikes parked not too far from them with the sun giving a orange and pink hue. Namjoon finished his ice cream long ago and was admiring the view. More importantly her.

"What color is the sunset this time?" She asked taking a scoop of ice cream and shoved the spoon into her mouth. Namjoon chuckled slightly at her way of eating before flickering his gaze towards the setting sun.

"It's kind of pinkish today. Its like the sun is blushing. It's a beautiful mixture of orange, yellow and pink slowly mixing into a soft purple that is fading into a dark blue. The waves are reflecting the beautiful sunset." Namjoon explained, placing his cheek against her head. Y/n hummed, keeping the spoon between her lips.

"That sounds pretty. I'm trying to imagine that but it's kinda of hard. I can't remember what purple looks like. And it's a shame, I loved the color purple." Y/n sighed, placing her spoon back into her cup, suddenly the ice cream wasn't so appetizing.  Namjoon felt the mood shift and frowned. He pushed himself slightly away from her, retreating his arm from her. Surely he should be used to her melancholy mood yet he always hated it every time the mood would shift from a tranquil mood to a gloomy one. But he never complained and would always reassure her whenever she felt so grim.

"What have I said about that? Don't worry, I'll be your eyes. I'll be your eyes, your escape to finally see color, okay?" His finger gingerly tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. Y/n stared at the handsome man in awe and she could've sworn she saw the color orange illuminating his face. She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, not understanding why she could suddenly see color. Just hours before all she saw was black and white, so why the sudden change? Namjoon blinked at her expression, retreating his hand back with a raised eyebrow.

"Something wrong?"

"Huh? Oh no. Is the sunset still orange?" Y/n asked, her eyes still staring at his orange illuminating face. Namjoon nodded leaning back into the blanket that cover the sand. He placed his eyes behind his head, his eyes now illuminating the same orange hue from the sunset further confusing the lad.

"Yeah. And it's beautiful. But seriously Y/n," Y/n perked her head, turning to face the male. She placed her ice cream cup down and faced the male. He gave a soft dimples smile, leaving two dents dent his smooth melanin skin.

"I'll be your eyes. So don't be afraid to use me." Something in the way Namjoon glowed that day made Y/n's body freeze and cause butterflies to flutter into her stomach. And the feeling only grew worse and so did the the colors that would appear. It was like that day was just the start of everything.

The next day she was able to see green. She was able to see the trees and the plants Namjoon had in his humble home. The day after she suddenly was able to see blue, the sea was suddenly noticeable. And whenever the male would merely smile at her, her stomach would explode from the amount of butterflies fluttering. His eyes holding a sparkle she just couldn't explain. When was the last time she felt like this?

A whole month passed and she hasn't said a word. She hasn't told her long time friend about it, worried her theory would be correct. And that's the least thing she wanted. Y/n was playing with her chopsticks, waiting for her friend to appear. Now she was able to brown, blue, greens and sometimes orange. It wasn't the greatest color scheme but it was all lot more what have Y/n seen in the past years.

The steam of her food hit her face causing her glasses to fog up. Y/n jerked slightly backwards as she chewed her lip. Her face slightly flushed from the heat. She placed her glasses on the table, something she rarely does. Her hair was down and touching her neck. She was wearing an oversized hoodie that was Namjoon's. A pair of ripped jeans and converse something so simple and her usual attire.

"Sorry I'm late!" Namjoon slid into the chair with a heavy pant. Y/n flickered her eyes to met the out of breathe male. Y/n froze seeing his attire. His hair now purple like the night sky soft and smooth pulled back to expose his glorious forehead. His mullet tickling behind his neck. He was wearing contacts giving his eyes a sudden hazel. His attire completely black with a lace shirt barely hiding the skin of his chest and collar bones. His bag near him as he threw his head back on the chair as he breathed heavily.

Y/n felt her face flushed at the sight. He looked completely handsome while she looked like she just got out of bed and threw on some jeans. She even heard some girls whispering and gushing over her handsome friend.

"I-It's fine." Suddenly Y/n felt shy, hiding her lips behind her sweater paw. Namjoon threw his head back to met gazed with her. His breathe finally back to normal. He gave a half smile with one dimple popping out of his cheek. His lips were a soft pink like a rose causing Y/n off guard. She doesn't remember seeing pink or purple.

"And sorry about the attire, Hoseok forced me to go on a blind date. Geez sometimes Hobi can be really annoying." Namjoon sighed, now his elbows placed on the table. He smiled his eyes looking up and down at her appearance. His heart growing warm from the sight of her wearing his hoodie.

"Wearing my hoodie today huh?" Namjoon teased, his eyes were for some reason more intimidating than usual. Y/n shrank under his gaze, her heart wavering. She gulped and nodded, trying to stop the red spreading from her cheeks. Namjoon bubbled into laughter laying his chin on his palm, now two dents popped in his cheeks.

"Geez your bit shy today huh? Hmm anyway where's your glasses?" Namjoon asked. Truth be told, his heart couldn't stop fluttering from the way her eyes sparkled without her glasses. Of course he didn't mind if she had glasses it was just rare for her to take them off. And either way, he would swoon over it.

"Ah! I just took them off for a moment, they kept fogging up every time I tried to eat my noodles." Y/n pouted, her eyes gazed at the table while her eyelashes fluttered. Namjoon held back a happy sigh as he cleared his throat and gave a grin.

"Well you look good without your glasses."

"And you look good with your purple hair."

"....What?"

Y/n's eyes widen in complete horror realizing what she said. She jerked back as she waved her hands around franticly.

"W-wait that's not what I meant! N-No! I mean Y-yes! Y-You just look goo-"

"How'd you know my hair is purple? I haven't told you the color of my hair. And if I remember correctly don't you mix up purple and black a lot?" Namjoon's question threw her completely off. Her cheeks rosy and it wasn't from the steam that came from the noodles.

"I-I-"

"You can see color again can't you?" Namjoon asked, his voice wavered slightly at his own question. Y/n blinked, placing her hands down tugging her sleeves to gain her sweater paws. She nodded hesitantly, her heart growing oddly heavy. Namjoon nodded slowly, leaning back on the seat his eyes suddenly blank. His arms crossed as his lips suddenly became dry. He licked his lips, his gazed down at the table.

"And who is it this time?" Namjoon asked, his eye brow twitched. Y/n swallowed, gripping her sleeves as she shrugged.

"I-I don't k-know. I just suddenly started s-seeing color." Y/n admitted shyly. Why does he look so distraught? That's what bothered Y/n so much. Namjoon flickered his gaze towards her with a raised eyebrow, his jaw clenched. If she wasn't being so shy about it, Y/n would admit how hot he looked.

"You don't know? Y/n you need to tell me. I have to make sure this guy isn't gonna hurt you-"

"It's you! I think..." Y/n said quietly, suddenly feeling the urge to cry. Namjoon froze unclenching his jaw as his lips parted in shock.

"What?"

"I'm not sure! It's just that ever since we went to the ocean a month ago I started seeing color. I suddenly I was able to see nearly every color besides a couple. And when you walked in I suddenly was able to see purple and pink-" Y/n rambled, hugging herself as her thoughts were scrambling nonstop.

"And now your saying you went to a blind date and how you can see color but the only way for you to see color is if your in love which means I can't like you because your my best friend and you already have a lover! But your the only person who stuck with me for so long and ugh to be that girl who stole your heart! But I'm so selfish because I want you all to myself and I can't because you have a lov-"

"I don't have a lover." Y/n blinked, Namjoon's deep voice stopping her rambling. She flickered her gaze towards the handsome male. His cheeks were dusted pink but his expression emotionless. His eyes boring into her soul causing her to shift in her seat.

"But your able to see color-"

"Just because I'm able to see color doesn't necessarily mean I have a lover. I could just be waiting for her to like me back or at least hope she does. The rule is we see color when we fall in love but that doesn't mean we have to immediately have a lover. There's cases where people are in love but never have a lover, only admiring them from afar. I was willing to accept that."

"B-But?"

Namjoon chuckled, losing his sudden cold demeanor. He laid his chin on his palm giving a soft smile. With his whole attire Y/n felt like she was gonna faint from his handsomeness.

"Then she said she likes me back. Or at least starting to. She's suddenly starting to see color and fall in love all over again despite being hurt so many times. I admire her so much. And doesn't have a clue that I dyed my hair her favorite color." Namjoon chuckled, pointing to his nicely styled hair. Y/n looked at his hair before flickering down to his warm gaze. Her heart beating loudly in her chest. She was slightly dense at his statement.

"A-Ah well me and her have so much in c-common, I love purple too." Namjoon bursted into laughter, laughing so hard his eyes disappeared and shaped his eyes into little moon crescents. Y/n blinked, tilting her head in a confused manner. Namjoon stood up, lifting her chin with his finger still bubbles of laughter escaping his throat.

"It's you darling, your so dense sometimes. But I don't mind it. At least you finally like me." Y/n's eyes twinkle with heat creeping onto her cheeks. He leaned in and lightly pecked her inviting lips. Her stomach swarming with butterflies, her brain turned into mush as she literally turned into puddle in front of him.

"I may not be your first, but I'll certainly be your last."
