Dead!

What is there to say when you meet Death itself? The ultimate endpoint for humanity. The end of the story, the final page, the last gasping breath into the endless abyss. And now before you stood the very face of such an incomprehensible concept. Though if you had to find a single word to try and describe this feeling as you stood shoulder to shoulder with Luna staring into a mirror of which the other side housed the reflection of death itself it would be... underwhelming?

Death: Hello Hello~!

Luna: Eh?

(Y/n): What the...

Death: Thank you for bringing them here Kidd! I would like to speak to these two alone, please.

Kidd: As you wish, Patty. Liz. Let's go.

Kidd called out to the girls standing behind him before the three of them left the room, the shorty talking about getting something to eat. At least you knew their names were Patty and Liz though you still had no idea which was which. Luna bumped into your shoulder softly, her hands lowered to cling to her briefcase as rested your side against her. Luna for all of her bluster seemed rather unerved by the face of death even if it was just a white mask on a strange black outline.

Death: So from what I hear you have been reaping in the city of Chicago, is that right?

Luna: I wouldn't say... reaping... more like we kill bad guys and they drop these weird ball things.

Death: Uh huh... So what processed you to pick one up and eat it, young man?

(Y/n): She uh... She dared me to one time.

Death couldn't blink but he had to have been completely taken back by the stupid reason you picked up a strange hovering glowing ball from a corpse to try and eat it. But that was just you and Luna. Master criminals that shared a handful of brain cells.

Death: I see... Either way! You have thrown off our numbers and reduced the number of people that needed to be reaped! Thank you for lightening the load for our reapers... though that also means you took away potential learning experiences from the students here. You see reaping the souls on my death list is strictly forbidden. I can forgive you for not knowing such a fact but you must still be held accountable.

(Y/n): Hey look err... Death guy? Are we in trouble or something? I don't like being dragged here without knowing what's going on.

Death: Hmm... normally this would be a matter of grave concern...

Luna: Hey come on we don't have to be hasty... We did you a favor! I mean Chicago is always going to be crime-ridden but we helped out here and there! If anything... I think we need a reward for our help~

(Y/n): Luna are you trying to extort death right now?

Death: Hahahah~! You two are quite interesting~ I've seen many interesting pairings in my years but your connection is quite strong. Super strong! The issue arises that I can't allow people to conduct reaping outside of our jurisdiction. Death happens every day in this world of ours but with your... chaotic nature if you slay someone not meant to die it could have severe complications.

Luna: Severe complications sound bad...

(Y/n): Just tell us what you want already- Ow!

Luna lifted a hand and smacked you in the back, drawing a glare from you as Death silently contemplated the two of you. Your pairing was strange, to say the least... He had many questions about the two of you but he needed to solve his first problem of your pairing unrestricted killing. You two had only killed villains so far but anything could change the course of such a chaotic duo. Luna also raised questions as she clung to the simple briefcase in her hands with almost desperation. So many questions... so many risks... However, a literal exclamation mark seemed to form over Death's head as he came to a solution of how to keep the two of you under wraps while solving the questions the two of you posed.

Death: I've got it! The academy can't let you run wild anymore... but that doesn't mean you need to be punished for simply reaping evil souls. Soooo...

(Y/n): You...You don't want us to enroll here, do you?

Death: Wow you got that quickly! I thought it might take you some more time...

(Y/n): Oi-

Luna: M-Mr. Death... That's a lovely offer but... we're not really the types to settle down... And we have never had any sort of training! The only experience we have with school or reaping we kind of picked up as we went along in Chicago.

Death: Ms. Bast... you and your partner Mr. (L/n) are more than capable of achieving great things! I can see that both of you are good people with strong hearts... even if your corners are a bit rough from living on the streets of a city of crime and vice. To borrow a term from your hometown... the two of you have been dealt a bad hand. And I sincerely believe that if you give the academy a chance... You can reshuffle those hands of yours and get a five-of-a-kind lucky draw!

The two of you had to bite your tongues to correct Death's clear lack of knowledge over card games but your (E/c) gaze was drawn to Luna. In all honesty, you could care less about where you ended up but you just knew you wanted to make sure Luna was happy. Luna's crystal blue eyes were looking down at the ground as her distracted gaze seemed cloudy. You could usually read the strawberry blond like a book but for once you couldn't tell what she was thinking. Your fingers trembled a bit as they lifted to raise and touch her shoulder but Luna beat you to the punch as she blinked and those clouds parted. Her blue eyes met your (E/c) ones and you could tell what she wanted to say. Even as her fingers clutched even tighter around the handle of her old leather briefcase, something in your mind told you this was going to be one of the few deals Luna Bast took. So like always you would simply trust her... even if this ended up going sideways like so many others.

Luna: We will stay... enroll here at your academy, Mr. Death.

Death: That is wonderful news!

(Y/n): Still we don't know much about school but it should be in full swing already right? Isn't it going to be weird to have some new students show up out of nowhere with no prior notice?

Death: Oh no~! Transfer students are rather common depending on the shows you watch so it shouldn't be a big deal for more students to show up! Ahem... I would like to officially welcome you... (Y/n) (L/n) and you Luna Bast to the Death Weapon Meister Academy. I look forward to seeing you two grow and develop as students!

A sudden surreal sense came over you. Students at a school... Who would have imagined Bonnie Clyde being ordinary students? Sure you were now enrolled in a school for weapons and miesters learning how to be reapers or whatnot but you certainly never would have imagined yourself ending up here.

Death: Though you do raise a good point that you are arriving rather late... It would be quite the hassle to put you in remedial classes and gauging from the amount of souls you have swallowed you are not too far off from achieving the ultimate goal of a weapon!

(Y/n)The ultimate goal of a weapon? To kill stuff?

Death: In essence. However, when a weapon eats 99 evil human souls and then one witch's soul, it becomes a death scythe. That is the highest rank a weapon can achieve in the academy and qualifies them to become one of my personal weapons for reaping! And from what I can see... You are only a few souls away!

Luna: Well that's-

(Y/n): A tempting offer but I will decline. Luna's my miester and we plan to keep it that way.

Death: I am happy to see you two so closely bonded~ But that is enough talk for now. I already have some remedial lessons planned for other students... So I will assign those lessons to you as well! It will be a good chance to meet fellow weapons and meisters and grow accustomed to things here at the academy by speaking with Instructor Sid.

Luna: Sounds good to me, Mr. Death sir! Come on, (Y.n)!

(Y/n): H-Hey wait we haven't even-

Death: W-Wait hold on I haven't even told you where to go... Hah... what a strange pair... Though I suppose it's only right given...

The shinigami mumbled to himself as Luna dragged you back down the corridor. Her nervous demeanor from before was completely replaced with her usual confidence. This shift was a bit of a surprise considering where the two of you were. She pulled you back into the school as various teachers and students brushed past.

(Y/n): Luna... I can't wrap my head around this. Why do you want to stay here so bad?

Luna: It's like you said earlier. We don't stick around in one place for long. But we had quite a bit of heat on us in Chicago.

(Y/n): Everyone hated us already. It's not like pissing em off even more was going to change anything.

Luna: Listen... we have a good opportunity here to turn things around you know. Change our lives for the better maybe even...

As the last teacher brushed past Luna pressed in closer to whisper into your ear.

Luna: And take this place for everything we can~

A smirk pulled onto your face as you chuckled while Luna adjusted her glasses with a devious smirk.

(Y/n): You want to pull off a heist here?

Luna: Think about it! We are so close to having the world in our hands~ And this place is so fancy it blows the socks off those joints back in Chicago~

(Y/n): Yeah but it's a school. It's not like they have a safe tucked away here. And if they do it's probably filled with like test answers or something.

Luna: Hmmhmm~ You forget my dear boy but we are just in Nevada... but Death City~! Death Vegas baby! We pull off a spree here and we can disappear for good just like we wanted.

(Y/n): You know I can't say no to you but we need to be careful... I'm going to take a wild guess and say these weapons and meisters are a lot more trained than those drunken gangsters back home.

Luna wrapped an arm around your shoulders and snicked before pulling you forward.

Luna: Don't you worry your pretty little head there~ Bonnie and Clyde are back in business!

Luna let out a laugh before cutting it short as a pair of students walked down the hall giving the two of you strange glances before moving on. It seems like Luna had this all planned out from the start... Your smirk turned into a toothy grin as you set out to go and find the other students for this remedial lesson of yours, sure that someone would stop along the way to actually tell you where it was located... And maybe change clothes too.

Your hands brushed down on your white button-up shirt, cleaning off the dust that had accumulated before adjusting your leather suspenders. To finish off you wore a pair of simple black trousers with leather shoes, your hair styled with a simple brush over with your hand. Luna wore a more relaxed getup this go around compared to when the two of you pulled off the last gig in Chicago. A black and white striped turtleneck leads down to a similar patterned skirt, black leggings, and simple running shoes. And of course, she was wearing her round spectacles and your hat along with clutching her briefcase in her left hand.

(Y/n): Did we seriously get sent to a graveyard? I know that Death is our principal and all but this seems cliche.

Luna: Ah don't worry too much. I'm more concerned with these other students we have to interact with.

(Y/n): You? Worried about talking to people? Who are you and what did you do with Luna?

Luna: Conning idiots is one thing. These classmates are the same age as us and clearly trained in combat to a certain degree. Even that Kidd guy had you on the ropes before we got there.

(Y/n): On the ropes? I clearly was about to win!

Luna: Oh yeah? So what were-

???: -Getcher ass out here!

The two of you were caught off-guard by the sudden profanity ladden exclamation from further in Hook cemetery. You took a step forward in front of Luna but she seemed more curious than frightened as she simply nudged you forward with her briefcase before walking forward with you in tow to head closer to these shouting voices.

The sight before the two of you was... something. Two guys were discussing pissing on a grave much to the sheer terror of a black-haired girl. Another girl with taupe-colored hair was kneeling next to a tree looking ready to vomit up breakfast. It was the black-haired girl that took notice of you first. Then again it was hard not to take notice of her in that... ninja outfit.

???: Who are you two?

Her tone was gentle and curious but it managed to drag the attention of everyone else, clearly expecting someone that wasn't the two of you.

Luna: I'm Luna and this is my weapon (Y/n)!

You offered a simple wave as the two boys detached from each other to walk closer while the girl who seemed close to puking managed to recover at least enough to wander closer as well. It was the blue-haired guy with spiky hair who spoke up next in a rather boisterous tone that screamed arrogant to you.

???: Well what are you two doing here? This is my spotlight so we don't need any surprise guests!

Tsubaki: Black Star that's rude! I-I apologize for him... My name is Tsubaki.

The other girl decided to speak up too though her eyes were narrowed slightly out of caution making it rather easy for her large green eyes to meet your (E/c) ones.

Maka: I'm Maka and this is my partner Soul. Are you two new students at DWMA?

Luna: Oh my you're smart! We just transferred this morning! Mr. Death assigned us to help you guys out with this lesson of yours.

Black Star: Why would I need any help? I could do this entire lesson by myself~!

Soul: Sid hasn't even shown up yet so how do you even know what the lesson is?

Black Star: It's because I'm transcending the gods and that means anything I do will be easy~

Maka: Hah... You guys are seriously- Waaaugh!

Maka screamed out as something exploded out from the ground underneath her clutching to her ankle. An imposing figure with tattoos and purple skin was holding the girl upside down as he crawled out of the ground.

Soul: Maka!

???: Are you scared?

The figure turned to your group as Soul called out Maka's name and lept into action, transforming in midair to reveal he was a scythe weapon. Thus, you easily figured out that Maka was his meister. Maka wrenched herself free of the figure's grip and equipped Soul once he landed on the ground next to her. The purple-skinned man turned to a gravestone and ripped it out of the ground, easily wielding it like a weapon and turning to reveal a hole directly in his forehead.

???: Maka. Soul. Black Star. Tsubaki. Hmm... I don't recognize you two.

Maka: Why are you doing this Sid sensei?!

Luna: Eh... that's our instructor?!

(Y/n): A zombie is our teacher?

Sid cracked his head from side to side as you just barely managed to catch Tsubaki transforming into a pair of sickles chained together.

(Y/n): I get we are getting thrown into the action but we didn't really get to talk those four.

Luna: Well.. we shouldn't be left behind right~?

You nodded as Luna set the briefcase down to her side.

Luna: Hey Mr. Sid sensei!

Sid: Hmm?

Luna: I noticed that cool hole in your head! So I was wondering...

Sid: Wondering what?

It was then you fulfilled your queue and turned into your weapon form, a Tommy gun falling right into Luna's hands as a smirk pulled onto her face. Her finger curled around the bolt before pulling it back with a satisfying click.

Luna: You want about 30 more~?

Luna pulled the trigger and so the two of you began your first lesson at DWMA not knowing the trials and tribulations that awaited. Bonnie and Clyde were ready to take everything Death City had and make it out clean but as so many find out... You can't escape from death...
