TWO HOURS AGO

Diane Suarez nervously paced back and forth while also simultaneously biting her nails. "I hate you!" She pointed a finger at her best friend accusingly. "This is making me nervous. I wanna cry. I'm not ready."

Bambi smiled, crinkling her nose. "Relax, Di."

"Relax?!" Diane shrieked and went closer to her as Bambi remained calmly perched on the bed with her feet swinging back and forth. "I can't!"

This time, Bambi laughed. "And why not?"

"Because! Chris doesn't know we're even here to begin with and I'm seeing him this afternoon for last minute scheduling for the press tour. You know I'm the worst secret keeper." For the first time in their entire relationship, Bambi had lied to Chris about her whereabouts but it was entirely justified ─ just trust her!

Bambi shrugged. "Just tell him you were with a friend. It's technically not untrue." 

"And, why aren't you freaking out?!" 

"I had an inkling of this weeks ago."

"Weeks? You knew about it for week and you just tell me now?!" Diane leaned against the wall, trying to catch her breath. "You are unhinged ─ I swear to God." 

Nothing could ruin Bambi's sunny disposition. "Oh? I've been told."

"Yeah? Normal people just don't show up in my driveway and drag me to a hospital with an 'inkling' that they might be pregnant." 

Bambi patted the space beside her, the hospital gown making a light ruffling sound as she did so. "Come on, Di. Sit beside me and let's all just calm down." 

Diane sighed deeply and did as she was told. She laid her temple on Bambi's shoulder and confessed with her voice barely above a whisper. "But if you are, I'm really happy for you, Bams. And, I'm happier because I'm the first person you're telling." 

Before Bambi could utter a reply, the doctor came in with a bright smile on her face. The two ladies straightened their posture at the sight of her, nerves bouncing off of them (though it was more on Bambi's part). 

"Congratulations, Mrs. Evans." Bambi felt her heart stop. Her eyes went wide. "The tests just confirmed you're at least five weeks pregnant." 

What the fu ─ 

"I'll give you a list of pre-natal vitamins. Would you like for us to take a sonogram?"

Bambi swallowed thickly. "You ─ you can do that? This early?"

The doctor nodded. "We won't be able to see much but we can see sort of a sac which can help us further estimate how far along you are."

Her vision blurred though she could still see herself adjusting her position to a supine one, Diane bouncing excitedly beside her with the brightest smile on her face, and the cold gel splattered all over her stomach. It seemed like mere seconds ticked by until she was handed a black and white photo of what looked like a pear. Bambi's fingers glided over the photo. "Holy shit." She uttered. 

Everything just became realer. 

Scarier. 

Just like that, Bambi's sunny disposition turned into a brew of excitement and utter fear.
