You Love Me No Longer, I Know

Hey, everyone! This is the next chapter and it's been cut in two. I'll be updating again tomorrow!

BTW ~ Isn't Tanner's (Dominic's) eyes to die for??? Hmmmm... or MMMMMmmmm. ;)

------------------------------------------

Dear Lovefool,

How do you get a guy to notice you if he doesn't even know you exist?

~ anyonomousw8ing

Well, not that I have a lot of experience in this department, but if it were me, I'd make him take notice. Create a situation where you'll force yourself to interact with him. If he's into sports, go to his games. If he is in one of your classes, ask him for his notes since you are probably too distracted paying attention to him, rather than the teacher. Just put yourself out there and see what happens. At least you can't always wonder then, what if.

Be a doer, not a regretter!

Remember, don't be a fool in love. That's my job.

Lovefool

A half second before walking into the high school, I pulled my hoodie over my head, plugged my earbuds in and pretended that I was listening to music. It was easier for others to act oblivious to me if I appeared distracted. The slight stench of adolescent body odor and the cheap muddled mix of sweet perfume and musky cologne accosted me before I had the chance to switch to mouth breathing only for the duration. Avoiding everyone's eyes as I continued down the hallway, I almost made it to my locker when Mavis jumped me.

"Did you hear the latest?" She yanked a bud from my ear. Impeccably dressed, as usual, the tight skirt she wore left little to the imagination. But that was what my best friend sought—the attention, the limelight. Unlike me, who only wanted to make it the next 105 days till graduation without any bumps in the road whatsoever.

I shot her an odd look while opening the locker. My heart was still recovering from the jolt of her surprising me as I said, "No, Mave. What?" The only way I found out anything around here unless someone sent a message to Lovefool, was if she told me. So what was she thinking?

Unless?

A few of our classmates strode past with their phones held on full display. The Lovefool logo was showing prominently across a few of the screens, and my stomach dropped at the sight. A small group of junior girls gathered a few lockers away, and their discussion of Lovefool's latest post garnered my attention.

Just as I assumed, the video sent to me last night was uploaded anonymously to a few social media accounts. And silly me, I rewatched the whole encounter via YouTube while getting dressed this morning.

"Can you believe it?" one girl asked in a bubbly voice. "About Tanner?"

"No. I mean, yes." Another girl glanced around to see if anyone else was listening. No one was, well except for me. But I had perfected the art of listening to other's conversations while staying undetected. "I also heard that Tanner went behind Claudia's back and was dating some college chick or something."

It was something all right. It was some girl, just not some college girl. Who knew? Maybe he was dating someone else and this was the first that I'd heard about it.

Unlikely, but still a possibility.

I giggled to myself at my inner ramblings. Could I sound like any more of a creeper? Sure I knew quite a bit about Tanner Wilson. His past girlfriends, his family life, what his mom and dad did for a living. Funny all the things one could find out when stalking someone's Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter pages on a frequent basis. Like daily per chance.

But I was keeping all of that to myself.

"...about Claudia and—"

I waved Mavis off. "Tanner?" Had she been talking to me this entire time?

"Yes." She groaned and rolled her amber eyes at me. "Apparently there's some shady shit going down."

"Mave." I huffed at her cursing, and instantly she waved her hands in a conciliatory fashion.

"Shoot. Sorry. Umm. Some shady stuff." Mavis yanked my locker door wide open to take one last appraising glance at herself in the small mirror. She patted down her long chestnut hair, brushing a few flyaways away from her round face. "Anyway, I heard that Claudia is pissed."

I'm sure she was.

I stepped back and waited for her to finish. Doing so sent me colliding into something moving and tall and hard. The force threw me off balance, and I landed on my butt. "Ow!"

The other person fell right on top of me, and I leaned all the way back on my elbows to handle the proximity.

"Damn it!" a rough voice grumbled. "Watch where you're going next time."

A pair of cold blue eyes, one of which was half blue and brown, rose to meet mine. I blanched. It was him. Holy shiznit, it was Tanner.

"Ummm. I-I'm." I stalled on my words while carefully attempting to compose myself. My heart raced. My breathing hitched and every part of me froze while my cheeks warmed.

His tousled blond locks fell forward hiding the permanent scar above his left eyebrow from a hockey scuffle a couple years back. High cheekbones, strong jaw with some leftover stubble covering his skin, and perfectly symmetrical lips that helped frame his chiseled face; he was a sight to behold. Even when pissed.

Oh man, this was it. The moment, I'd been both dreading and wishing for since the seventh grade. For Tanner Wilson to take notice. Only maybe under different circumstances?

He rocked back to his knees and scowled. "Sorry would be the appropriate thing to say."

"But." I wanted to tell him that he was the one that ran into me. He should be the one apologizing. Not me. Only the ranting in my head had me balking to form the proper words.

Tanner stood, towering over me at a good six foot plus in height before walking away. Not without uttering a retreating, "Whatever," as he stormed off in the opposite direction.

The sight of his tight dark jeans and a gray long sleeved tee with a backpack lazily draped over one of his shoulders disappeared as he ducked into a nearby classroom. A hand thrust before my eyes broke the view of Tanner.

"What an asshole." Mavis helped me to stand and repositioned my black rimmed glasses that had slipped to the tip of my nose. "And you can't reprimand me for calling him that. Especially when he is one, and you know it."

"I would've just called him a jerk." I took my time brushing off my backside to ensure there wasn't a firm coating of dirt. I'd already endured enough humiliation today. No need for anything else.

Mavis helped by plucking a used tissue from the back of my sleeve. "Yes. Yes, but you have a habit of saying things more eloquently than me, Harriet." She spun me as the school bell pierced the hallway. "I don't have time for all that."

I smirked and started heading toward our first period English class. "Because it takes more time to call someone a jerk rather than an asshole?"

She threw me an impish wink. "You said it. Not me."
