Epilogue
Recap:
"Do you want a picture?" The doctor asked.
"Yes please." they both answered and Alan squeezed his girlfriend's hand.
"I love you Lynette and I promise to be with you and our baby forever" Alan finally found his voice back.
"Forever?" she asked as if she didn't believe her ears.
"Yes Lynette. Do you think I'm ever going to leave you? It's me, you and our baby together forever baby."
She smiled and he could see her eyes shinning with unshed tears, "Our children." she corrected. "Our children Alan"
And this was the beginning of new beginnings in their lives.
🌟🌟🌟🌟
(This chapter will be written in third person singular, for Lynette so don't be confused)
Alan could not understand how Lynette was so calm, her water broke an hour ago and he'd driven with full speed to the hospital. Her contractions were still eight minutes apart but he was scared.
She'd insisted on walking up and down but God knows that all Alan wanted her to do was rest until the baby would be ready to come out. He trailed behind her as she walked the hallway of the hospital, hoping to catch her in case she fell.
He was thinking ridiculously but he just couldn't help it, he'd never felt this way before, he was still a novice and it scared the shit out of him. Her step slowed down and he held her waist, "Contraction?" when she nodded, he said "Let's go and sit while I call the nurse, okay?"
"No Alan, now let's wait for another contraction and and see how far apart they are"
"Lynn, you understand I have no experience with these things, if you start to have the baby here, there's nothing I can do to help!"
She laughed and continued walking, shaking her head at how ridiculous he was being. After walking the same hallways for some time, she gripped his arms and he could see beads of perspiration forming on her forehead. This was it, she was going to rest now, he thought.
"The contractions are coming a lot stronger and closer together, I need to sit Alan." Alan wasted no time in getting her to settle down in the room that was assigned to her.
If he felt like this before the baby was even born, how could he survive when it was out in the world, when he couldn't watch over it and her mother every moment?
They got Lynette installed in a labor room and Alan timed her contractions, it was a lot closer and stronger as he could see from her face, he'd never felt so helpless in his life.
"Where's Mom?" she asked, grasping the bars of the bed. She looked so pale, the natural blush in her cheeks had faded, leaving her looking white.
"Does it hurt?" he grasped her hand, feeling helpless.
"Too much. It hurts a lot Alan." A tear slid down her face and mixed with perspiration as they trickled down her neck.
"Have you called Soph?"
"Yes, she went to pick up your mother, they should be on their way. Should I call the nurse?"
"Yes please." Lynette felt another contraction and readied herself for what was coming. How did she think that what she felt at home was labor pain? It was nothing compared to this white-hot pain she was feeling, so intense that she thought she was going to faint.
The nurse came, took her vitals and promised to call the doctor as she left. Alan looked at her, moving her hips and legs as she tried to get away from the pain, her eyes were closed and she looked older than her twenty-three years of age.
He reassured her and when she opened her eyes, his heart twisted when he saw the suffering and worry in them. "Alan, please don't leave me. Don't leave us please, we need you"
Alan looked away and when he turned to look at her, she could see tears glimmering in his eyes, "Don't cry please. I'm sorry I made you cry." She fretted "I'm out of my head right now, you know? I didn't mean to--"
"Lynette." his voice was clear and strong. "I'm not leaving you and our baby ever. You guys are my family and I love you, I'm going nowhere" Lynette was relieved at hearing those words.
Another contraction overtook her and she breathed, trying to relax her legs. The baby felt so low to her, too low like it was pressing on her pelvis, the doctor came in then.
She was pushed into a delivery room where she began the arduous task of pushing a living human being out of her body. Time became a blur and the room became small with the people in it. Finally she could feel the baby's head pressing, trying to get out.
The pressure was intense and she pushed with all her might, all the while, Alan was next to her, encouraging her. She pushed as hard as she could that she felt her face started to throb with the pressure. And with two more pushes, the baby was out.
"A girl" The doctor beamed and Alan stared unbelievably. Lynette released his hand but he couldn't feel it anymore from how hard she'd squeezed it.
A girl. A girl. And at that moment, Alan was the happiest man on earth.
"Can I hold her?" Lynette asked but the nurses had to clean her and she had to get the placenta out. After taking care of business, Lynette held her daughter for the first time.
Blue eyes stared back at her and she couldn't contain the tears that rolled down her cheek, she was tiny and had her mother's hair and her father's eyes, pink lips so soft that it made her breasts tingle.
"You two are my family now and I'll be with you forever." Alan said as he cuddled his family and the baby brought up her hand wrapped her little fingers around Alan's big thumb.
🌟🌟🌟🌟
Lynette was scared, her mom had gone out early that morning and Alan was at work so she was alone with baby Daphne who was named after Alan's mom.
Her brand new baby girl Daphne Storm, was perfect, healthy and gorgeous and Alan, her perfect Alan was not leaving them. He had said so himself.
As Lynette washed her hands, she couldn't help but be scared, she told herself to stop being ridiculous and stop acting like an idiot, but she couldn't help it.
Everytime she was alone with Daphne, she was afraid, afraid she'd drop her, hurt her, break her or do something wrong. She was so tiny and helpless and made the littlest sounds. How was Lynette supposed to change her clothes, let alone her diapers, without breaking her delicate little legs? How could she pass those delicate arms through those narrow sleeves without bending them the wrong way and break her fingers?
And sometimes she just cried for no detectable reason, it was terrifying. But Lynette knew that she was responsible for her, Daphne was her responsibility and she was going to care for and love her with every fiber of her being, like she did Alan.
They were her family.
