"Being Stubborn is never a bad thing if you're trying to achieve your dream."
- G.C. Brucal
Anika was fed up of Shivaay's stubbornness. May be he had taken the above mentioned quotes too seriously. There's a fine line between stupidity and stubbornness but in Shivaay's case the line itself was missing.
"You're not going there and that's final." Anika stuffed the spoon filled with medicinal syrup in Shivaay's mouth and stopped him from talking. Shivaay gulped the bitter syrup but chose to be silent because arguing with Anika was not a good option.
Two days had passed and Shivaay and Anika had been in the hospital because Shivaay had to be under observation of the doctors. After two days they were leaving the hospital and that too because Shivaay glared the doctor and scared him to an extent that he had to give a thumbs to him to go home. All of it happened without Anika's notice which was a relief for Shivaay and Khanna.
Shivaay was getting ready to leave whereas Anika had gone to sign the discharge papers, afterall she was the patient's 'loving and caring wife'. She really didn't have any idea why she chose not to correct anyone and readily mentioned herself as Shivaay's wife in those papers.
As she stepped into Shivaay's ward after signing all the papers related to his discharge, she saw the sight she had begun to be scared to see. There he was, only in his trousers and trying to put his shirt on. She had managed to keep her heart in her control but he was hell bent on scaring her. She was still unaware of the fact that she wasn't scared but... isshh ! forget it.
Shivaay was in pain would be an understatement because his furrowed eyebrows and his lower lip under his upper teeth was telling the story of his pain. He was facing a difficulty in wearing his shirt so Anika ran towards him and held his hand to stop him. She took his shirt and helped him in wearing it.
All this while she had been praying to God to help her in tolerating this proximity with him. She was cursing him for making her feel this way. But she was completely unaware about the things she was doing to him when her fingers would brush against his bare skin, or she would look at him stealthily.
Once Shivaay was ready, they stepped out of the ward as Anika held his hand to give him support. They were just a few steps away from the ward when Khanna came shouting behind them, with Shivaay's coat in his hand.
Shivaay and Anika turned to look at Khanna and Anika's gaze immidiately fell upon the coat he was giving to Shivaay. Shivaay didn't dare to hold the coat but he was definitely trying to kill Khanna with his looks.
Anika turned her face towards Shivaay, only to find him busy counting the miniature, white polka dots his black shirt had, note the sarcasm please.
"Innocence and You, that is SSO, can't stand in the same line. So stop feigning innocence and tell me what's this ?" Anika asked, her eyes fixed on Shivaay and her arms across her chest. Khanna chose to stay quiet because he loves himself, he was still a 32 year old bachelor and he didn't want to die without seeing his wife and children.
"I.. Actually... voh.. I wear suits usually so only shirt and trousers might look weird that's why..." Shivaay thought he had tackled the situation but Anika's one look was more than sufficient to shut him up.
"If you seriously think I would believe this nonsense then you're wrong. And don't you dare go to your office. Go home and REST and not work." Anika mentioned every word so seriously that she could easily be compared to an army commander.
"What do you mean by go home ?" Shivaay asked and she face palmed herself as he heard only this one line out of whatever she said.
"You shouldn't stand for so long. Lets go." Anika held his hand and started walking towards the exit. Shivaay found her behaviour suspicious but followed her nonetheless.
His black Mercedes was parked right infront of the hospital and Khanna opened the door for Shivaay to enter which he did. He was waiting for Anika to enter and Khanna was standing there praying for his life. He didn't know whether to do what Anika said or to do the opposite. It was a die and die situation for him, either he would die at the hands of Anika or Shivaay would kill him.
"Why are you standing like that ? Come and sit." Shivaay said to Anika, even though he knew what was running in that pretty head of her.
"Khanna ji, take him home." Anika said to Khanna and he nodded. Saying an inaudible Jai Mata Di, Khanna sat in the car and asked the driver to drive. He looked at Shivaay's face from the rear view mirror. That face looked scarier than a ticking bomb.
Anika breathed a sigh of relief and moved out of the hospital premises where another car was waiting for her. She looked at the security guards Khanna left behind and one of them was going to open the door for her when she heard the scariest voice one could ever hear.
Anika crossed her fingers and turned around to see Shivaay Singh Oberoi standing there with anger dripping from his eyes. May be it was her own evil eye that the sweet Singh Oberoi she was seeing since last two days was back to square one - being the angry young man he is.
She closed her eyes so she could bear hearing his loud voice but all she felt was a hand clasping her wrist in a firm grip. Firm, and NOT tight. She opened her eyes to see Shivaay opening the door to the car for her. She knew better that the least he wanted her to do was arguing with him so she sat in the car quickly and he followed her.
As they drove away from the hospital, she was staring at him like a scared kid would do at his mother after making a huge mistake. The index finger of his right hand was ticking as his hand was resting on his right thigh, something which he does when he is facing a difficulty in controlling his anger. Whereas his left hand was still grasping her wrist, knowingly or unknowingly.
"Why the hell are you staring at me ?" Shivaay's voice broke the long, awkward silence that pervaded in the car. His voice was so loud that she jerked her hand out of his grasp and covered her face with her palms.
Even if he wanted to lash out at her and scold her till he was tired, which he rarely is, he couldn't help but calm down as he saw her scared of him and her cute behaviour was something he could never ignore.
Anika got scared but at the same time she wasn't scared because she knew he shouted at her out of irritation and that he won't hurt her. She had started trusting him that bad. He had earned that trust.
When she didn't hear anything else from him she peeped through her fingers and slowly removed her palms from her face when she saw him resting his head against the head rest.
"Shivaay ! Shivaay !" Anika called Shivaay while poking his bicep with her index finger.
"Stop it, Anika. If you think you can escape my questions and stop me from scolding you with your cuteness then you're wrong. Wait till we are home." Shivaay said calmly, without opening his eyes.
Anika smiled at the word cuteness and blushed for he found her cute.
The whole journey after that was a silent one because Anika was still blushing and Shivaay was just smiling faintly because he knew what exactly she was doing even if he hadn't opened his eyes for once.
Once the car stopped near Anika's colony they stepped out of the car and Anika was by Shivaay's side without any delay.
"Anika, you go first. If anyone would see us together they might speak rubbish. I don't want then to bad mouth you." Shivaay freed his hand from her and asked her to go.
Anika didn't want to leave him alone but still followed what he said and gestured her Khanna bhaiya to help Shivaay. Khanna tried to hold Shivaay but Shivaay eyed him angrily.
"Mam !" Khanna called Anika who turned around but Shivaay immidiately held Khanna as if to find support and Anika started to walk once again. Khanna bit back his smile and they followed Anika like two obedient students.
Anika entered Shivaay's rented house instead of going to her own house because she couldn't leave him alone. The doctor had mentioned rest for atleast two weeks and he wouldn't do it at all if he was left on his own.
Shivaay sat on the couch with Khanna's help and Khanna wanted to leave from there immidiately because Anika was in the kitchen preparing food. He didn't want to be killed in her absence but Shivaay stopped him, without even saying a single word.
After a few minutes Anika came out of the kitchen and served him with the soup she prepared. Once he was done and she had fed him his medicines, she sat infront of him.
"Why didn't you go back to Oberoi Mansion ?" Anika asked bluntly and then looked at Khanna.
"Khanna bhaiya, I asked you to take him back to Oberoi Mansion. Then why did you brought him back ?"
"Mam he said he would jump out of the moving car if we won't listen to him. He had the door opened already." Khanna told Anika and rushed out of the house without looking at Shivaay for once.
"Is it a joke for you ? Kuchh ho jata aapko toh ?" Anika shouted and shook him holding his shoulders. She was on the verge of crying and he couldn't bear the sight of her unshed tears.
"The purpose for which I came here is still not fulfilled. So I'm not going anywhere." Said Shivaay as he wiped her tears off.
"In fact, now I don't need to fear that you'll find out my real identity. I don't need to tolerate and I can snap back if anyone shouts at me because you already know that I'm the one and only handsome, angry young man." Shivaay stated proudly and Anika shook her head at his tadi.
"Go and sleep. And dare you start romancing that laptop of yours." Anika threatened him as she started dragging him towards his room.
"And what if I say I won't be able to sleep without romancing ?" Shivaay asked playfully as he bit back a smile. Anika's dusky cheeks were turning red hearing him, she clearly understood the meaning behind his words. She thought the jitters in her stomach would make her mad.
After tucking him to bed like a little baby Anika went to her house. No matter how badly she wanted to stay in Shivaay's house to take care of him, she knew better the kind of society they were living in. Even if her heart whispered to her that he won't let anyone badmouth about her, she was really sensitive in the case of her respect and character.
Shivaay didn't have the heart to disobey his wife's orders but he had to do it. May be she's not his wife on legal papers or they haven't taken the seven rounds around the holy fire in a proper manner but his heart and mind had already accepted her as his wife. She was the only one who has a right on him.
He wore his usual three piece suit and gelled his hair properly. The conference was supposed to last for an hour or two but he didn't realise how it was extended to six hours and it was already midnight.
His wounds were hurting him because of the strain he put on them but he continued working and now when the conference was over, he closed his eyes as his wound was hurting him so much. It wasn't too long when he heard the door click open. Shivaay stood up from his seat with a jerk but that ended up hurting him even more.
Anika was hurt more than being angry when she saw Shivaay working and not resting. She had thought he would listen to her and respect her decision of him not going to office and working. But she was wrong. Here he was, working as if nothing happened and she said nothing to him.
She took a quick glance at his face as he looked like a helpless puppy but that was not going to melt her broken heart. To anyone else it would be a small matter and her hurt might sound like exaggeration but she was hurt because he hurt himself just for some stupid work. It wasn't like he would go bankrupt if he didn't work for a day or two.
"Anika listen to me please. It was really really important for me to attend that video conference because it was scheduled even before the attack happened. I couldn't cancel it." Shivaay covered the distance between them in two long strides and stood in her way to stop her from leaving. She didn't look at him and didn't say anything. It might be an involuntary reaction but he felt like she stayed silent purposely so as to irritate him and punish him.
"Anika, I'm sorry." Shivaay apologised and stared at her small hands that he had grasped in his large ones. Even in that dreadful moment when she was angry or hurt because of his actions, he couldn't help but feel ecstatic seeing her hands in his. He found their hands together to be beautiful, as if those hand were meant to be the way they were at the moment.
"Why are you apologising ? It was my fault to expect anything from you. And to top that off, I expected something which was out of my league. I expected the great business tycoon of India to obey my orders. Me ? Who's a nobody ?" A rebellious tear rolled down her cheek when she jerked her hands out of his grasp. The warmth of his hands was way to comforting for her to be angry with him. That feel was beautiful so it was better to keep herself away from him.
"Anika you're not a nobody. You're... you're.." Shivaay's voice was so soft it could've melted even Adolf Hitler himself. But the problem here was that Anika didn't notice that the tone he used was customised only and only for her. She chose to notice his hesitation in saying what or who she was to him.
"I'm a, what, Shivaay ? Nobody. That's what I am. And that explains why you would not listen to me." Anika pushed him aside and stepped out of his room and into the hall.
"I can tell you right now what you are to me. But do you have the guts to listen to me ? To believe my words ? Above everything else, do you reciprocate what I feel about you ?" Shivaay stopped Anika just as she was about to leave his house and to stop her from struggling to get out of his hold he pulled her to his chest and locked her hands behind her back. It was not good for his sanity and gentlemanly-ness but that was the only alternative he had.
"Lea..leave me, Shivaay." Anika tried to get out of his hold because the things she was anticipating and wanted him to do to her were not decent at all.
"I know you very well. Your silly head won't stop thinking useless things until I clear your doubts." When Anika pulled her lips in a pout he knew she would argue so he spoke immidiately, not giving her a chance to open her mouth.
"I know. I know that you're not silly but in a few matters, you're. You don't know what place you hold in my life. You're unaware of your importance in my life. I had always been the lonely one. I had my family but.. I can't tell you why I felt alone all my life when I myself don't know the reason. It's not that my family doesn't love me or something. They love me as much as I love them but... I just feel happier when I'm with you. Infact, the happiest. There would never be an end to my feelings nor there would be an end to the words that I want to use to tell you what I feel around you. For now that's all you need to know. Please never misunderstand me, Anika. Your trust is what I want to earn and treasure till my last breathe and beyond."
Floating in a flood of emotions Shivaay couldn't keep his hold as strong as it was earlier but Anika didn't want to come out of the peaceful shell of his manly arms. She found in his arms the warmth and protectiveness that her grandmother's lap had always provided her, with an incremental possessiveness.
Shivaay smiled softly but within his heart his feelings were all over the place, some even escaped towards his lungs making it difficult for him to breathe. He disclosed infront of her almost the whole summary of his feelings and she was still here in his arms. It was a big relief for him.
His hands that had been grasping her wrists behind her back had now brought them infront of his face. The fingers of his hand slipped into the gaps between her fingers and filled them like a seasonal river would fill in the deep, dry with draught gorge. His hazel eyes held her gaze captivated when he kissed her knuckles. Her deep, melodious sigh had the capability to break the walls of the prison where all his wild fantasies resided.
He cupped her cheek with his other hand and marked her heart and soul with his name as he left a feel of his lips on her forehead. It was the only way he could control himself and not scare her. She was the only person who evoked his wild feelings and the only one who could control them as well.
Her eyes locked with his and hands intertwined with his, it was the perfect scenery for a poet to write a passionate poetry and a perfect sight for a painter to paint a masterpiece with love in all its colours.
Change is the only constant thing in the world. Bullshit did the line sound in Shivaay's mind because he had already vowed that he and his Sweebit would always be what they were at the moment, two lovers passionately, deeply and madly in love.
