It's not essential for anyone to always win to be happy. Sometimes, just loosing becomes a source of extreme joy and calm. Fighting is not always a good option. Sometimes, you might just win something precious as you give up and lose.
Giving up on the idea to send Anika back to her house was not as bad as he thought for he saw her smiling so widely. For her it was like winning a big battle, achieving something that seemed impossible. She never failed to surprise him by being happy with things he used to find insignificant as Shivaay Singh Oberoi. Being with her, he started to realise how much of importance a few petty things have to be happy.
"See ! You lost infront of me. I'm way too stubborn, Mister. So next time don't argue." Anika swirled her hair with that smug look on her face for defeating the man who never looses, only if she knew he has lost the most important thing to her - his heart.
"You should not have argued with me at the first place because..." the ring to Shivaay's phone stopped Anika's shelf praising campaign as he pleaded with his eyes to let him take the call. She gave a 'I'll get back to you' look to Shivaay as she opened the door and left to bring his medicines from the hospital pharmacy.
Ten minutes later, Anika stared at the pretty girl standing infront of Shivaay in his ward as she entered the ward with his medicines in her hand. Her eyes narrowed at Shivaay and then at the girl who smiled at him and turned to leave the ward. She was pissed off due to something she couldn't put her hand on, so pissed off so that she didn't even return the smile the girl smiled in her direction.
"Who was she ? She had a problem in her teeth ?" Asked Anika as she placed the medicines on the table beside his bed. If Shivaay was surprised at the rudeness of her question he chose not to comment over it.
"You need to get freshen up, Anika so..." Shivaay was once again, snubbed by Anika. Shivaay had been counting the times she snubbed him in last 2 or 3 hours but lost the count soon.
"Don't start again with your 'Go home' thing. I'm NOT leaving." Anika huffed in anger and frustration because his thoughts were stuck to the same topic.
"No. I meant to say you should shower and change your clothes. So I..."
"So you want to say I'm Ugly and sweaty ?" Anika asked as she was angry, and unknown to him, a bit insecure and disappointed for he found her ugly.
When the same thing occurred once again, Shivaay rubbed his forehead in exasperation at the extent to which he was enchanted by her that he let her do this to him again and again. He wondered if anyone in his life had ever cut his sentence off in the middle and started talking ? He could remember not even one instance.
She turned her face to hide her disappointment and started going through the prescription paper hung beside the bed on a cardboard. Even if she could understand nothing it still provided as a source of distraction.
It was the sudden tug on her wrist that caused her to look back at Shivaay but she couldn't look into his eyes. He had to make her look up at him by holding her chin between his forefinger and thumb.
"Stop thinking rubbish, Sweebit. I can never find you ugly or sweaty. You look beautiful always, in any way, in any kind of clothes you wear. I was just saying you should get freshen up so you feel better." Anika stared at his face, dumbfounded by his words. His words had the power to make her feel inferior or beautiful. She never knew he had such control over her mind that she couldn't say anything.
"Now go and freshen up. I'll order lunch for you." Anika agreed without any arguments, making him grateful to God for once.
"But... I don't have another pair of clothes to change into." Shivaay's facial expressions didn't match with what she had said. He was confused and she was too. Had she said something stupid, again ?
"What do you think all of these are if you don't have anything to wear ?" Shivaay said as he pointed at something behind her.
When she turned around, her breathe hitched to see so many Indian suits lined up in a clothes hanger. It wasn't a question whether these were designer dresses because the beauty of those dresses said it all. She turned to look at him with her mouth wide open.
"When did this... How ?"
"When you were busy in sulking at the prospect of going home I asked your Khanna bhaiya to do this. And that poor girl who you were looking at like she was a terrorist, she came here to deliver these dresses." She struggled to form a proper question but he answered her query.
"I.. I didn't mean to look at her like that. I was just... I don't know. I didn't like her." The stubborn Anika was back.
The desire to say she was jealous of the girl because she smiled at him was strong but he saved it for some other time. For now she needed to have her lunch that might arrive anytime soon. So he asked her to choose a dress for now.
"Can I select any one of these dresses ?" she asked happily as she scanned through the dresses. Surprisingly, all the dresses were in her favourite colours so that she didn't know what to wear. It wasn't her thing to be choosy but again, infront of Shivaay she does weird things.
"What do I choose ? All of these are my favourite colours. I love them all. I don't want to choose one and disappoint the others" Anika pouted as she didn't want to choose any one colour and leave the others. The dilemmas of disappointing the colours by not wearing them was amusing to Shivaay, but then, nothing about her was less amusing to him.
"It's not a big deal, Anika. All of these are for you so you can wear them all. Choose one for now." Shivaay thought he succeeded in convincing her when she stared at him for a few minutes. But his hopes died a cruel death as she spoke.
"I can't take them all. How can I take such expensive dresses from you ?" Anika looked at him, expecting that he would say something but he just shook his head at her queries. For once he was frustrated that his Anika was different from other girls who would do anything for having him pay for their shopping expenses, his own little sister being included in the list.
"Anika, that is a topic for our argument for later. Choose a dress, now. It's an order from your employer's employer." After that Anika silently skimmed through the dresses but she still didn't know what to choose.
Finally after much inner debate she could decide on a yellow shirt that reached just above her ankles and had golden shimmer on the border in an unordered fashion. The shirt had off white coloured, long, net sleeves, so long so as to look like bangles near her wrists. The bottom was an off white loose palazzo that ended just above her ankles with the same golden shimmer near its borders. It was paired with a netted scarf of an off white colour.
Anika picked the dress and went to the bathroom to shower. She couldn't help but admit that this ward was a VIP ward for a reason as she saw the luxury this bathroom exhibited. It was not until she showered and changed in a fresh pair of clothes that she realised how much she needed this shower and how tired her body was. She felt thankful to Shivaay for forcing her to freshen up, not that she would voice out her thoughts to him.
The calmness she felt after the relaxing shower was short lived. As soon as she exited the bathroom, she found the same nurse who was so rude to her in the morning and was smiling at him like he was her boyfriend or something. She could see Shivaay was also not very happy with her presence there.
"But I'm here to help you, Mr. Oberoi. It's my job." The nurse, whose name, Shivaay read from her batch was Ria, was not ready to listen to him.
"What's happening here ?" Anika asked as she walked towards Shivaay. The minute he heard her voice he was gone. It was the first time he saw her wearing yellow colour. The dampness of her hair enhanced the beauty of her face. The redness of her cheeks and nose never seized to make him breathless. It was this sight he would love to see the minute he would wake up everyday.
"I said you don't have to do anything. I'm here to help him." It was Anika's voice he was sure, but that rude and authoritative ? How could that be possible ?
The nurse left the ward making weird faces and Shivaay stared at Anika, not knowing the reason of Ria's annoyance.
"Why was Ria so annoyed ?" He asked the simple question being unknown to the mistake he made.
"Aapki bua ki beti hai voh jo Ria bula rahe hain ?" Anika's reply was so outrageous that Shivaay jumped in his seat being scared of her.
"By the way, I just told her to go because you don't need her help for sponge bath." Anika mentioned casually, and that explained the reason of her rudeness. He wondered if she was jealous ? He couldn't be happier if she was.
"Now what am I going to do ? I'm not a superhero who wouldn't fell pain if I use my fractured hand."
"Who told you to use your hands ? I'll help you. So stop being worried." Anika said and picked the sponge and the small sink filled with lukewarm water.
"Anika... are.. are you sure you can do this ?" Asked Shivaay, his raised eyebrow being an indication of his mischievous thoughts.
"Yes. Surgery nahi karni hai, sirf sponge bath dena hai." Anika said.
"Surgery would be easier for you, Anika." Shivaay laughed silently while she was busy in finding a dry towel.
"Stay silent, Shivaay." Anika picked up a dry towel from the trolley that the nurse left.
"Do you know how to give a sponge bath ?" Shivaay asked once again to be sure if she was even in her senses.
"Yes, I know it okay. Stop with your questions now."
"To give a Sponge bath clothes must be removed, Anika." That one sentence was enough to shake Anika out of her 'I know it all' world and she dropped the towel in shock.
The confidence she exhibited through her voice a few minutes ago was lost now. She was completely unaware about the mess she was creating in her jealousy. The fact that she accepted that she was jealous was the proof of how messed up her mind right now was.
Shivaay thought he would laugh but he couldn't. He himself was thinking what would happen or what she would do ? Whether she would do what she said she would ? And if she did somehow, what would be his condition ?
"It's.. it's okay Anika. Any hospital staff would help. You don't have to do this." Shivaay said so because he didn't want her to feel uncomfortable.
"No... no.. I'll do it." Anika didn't want to take a risk of having any female staff around him and to add to it, her stubbornness would never let her accept she was scared.
She stood near his bed and started opening the buttons of his shirt. With every button she opened she was getting more and more scared. She helped him remove his shirt and tried not to touch him in any way but that was as impossible as flying without wings.
As if his bare chest was not enough that she felt his hand on her waist. His hand wasn't still but moving upwards and pulling her closer to him. The sponge she had been holding in her hand was long forgotten as it fell on the floor.
His other hand was busy making invisible patterns on her cheek. The hand on her back was pulling the zipper down, loosing the hold of the dress around her body. His eyes fixed on her lips was doing things to her she never knew existed or she could feel them.
His hand when moved from her cheek into her hair she knew there was no going back. She was scared what would happen and at the same time she wanted him to claim her mouth with his lips and stop these jitters that invaded her stomach.
"Anika ! Anika ! Anika !" Shivaay's voice broke the dream Anika was seeing through her open eyes. She flushed with embarassment at the wildness of her thoughts. She couldn't believe she could dream of something of that kind.
She was scared when the thought of him being aware of her thoughts crossed her mind and she looked at him, only to find his forehead creased with worry lines. Not in her whole life she had felt so relieved as she did in that moment.
Seeing her hands shivering so much he knew he had to stop her himself because her stubbornness would not let her admit she was uncomfortable. He held her hand and she instantly looked at his face.
"I know it's your birthright but you don't have to be so stubborn, Anika. Let me ring the bell and someone will be here to help me. And don't worry. I'll make sure someone from the male staff comes here." Shivaay said to her and she nodded without any argument. She was not in a state to say anything against his suggestion because what she managed to do was more than her innocent eyes could handle.
She got up from the bed and left the room silently and after a few minutes she saw a ward boy entering the ward, causing her to release the breath she never knew she was holding.
She wondered if her dream would have come true if he had not suggested to call the staff. What would have happened if she hadn't given up on her stubbornness ?
But she was not able to forget what she was dreaming of a few minutes. For the time being, it was good deeds that she had given up.
