Chapter 75

“Seokjin-ah, I gotta go back to the orphanage for a reason. I'll probably leave at dawn so I've prepared your schedule for the day and mailed it to you. Don't worry about me, I'll be back soon <3”

Didn’t it seem like a normal text from his girlfriend?

Well...no.

Seokjin's been fuming over this for the whole day. How could she leave so suddenly? Without meeting him? Why didn’t she call him? What was so important that she had to head back without him? Why couldn’t he tag along? How could she do this to him?

Most importantly, did she forget today was his birthday?

He checked the date again on his phone. Yes, it said today was December 4th so this was supposed to be the day he would spend with her and make new memories. He thought she would wish him early, take him out on another date, have fun and romance all day.

But she left. She left on his birthday. How could she?

It wasn’t like her. Yoon Min never forgot his birthday even if her life was at risk. In fact, she was always the excited one about making a perfect day for him. Don't scoff at Seokjin for acting like this; he himself never cared about his birthday. He wasn’t a kid or a teenager who would count wishes from people and share them on social medias. He merely wanted to see how the day of his birth affected the woman he loved.

Sure she's been busy all week and it's acceptable to forget his birthday, but she really had to go away on this day? He couldn't convince himself anyhow. He did everything; read her text over ten times, checked the calendar, called her; but all told him the same thing.

Seokjin sighed for the hundredth time and tried to focus on his work. He's been wasting the whole day away in his chair, over-thinking her action. He stared at the ceiling in silence, wondering about a fact he didn’t want to.

Was she growing out of love for him?

It could be. Maybe he wasn’t taking enough care of her. She deserved so much more than he ever gave her. All these years, he's been giving her only pain and heartbreaks. Maybe she simply didn’t value him like she used to and eventually forgot. This could be the possibility.

However, he didn't want her to feel like that. To do that, he had to do something big, big enough to win her heart. But wouldn’t that be the same as what he had been doing for his ex-girlfriend?

“Aish, I need to stop thinking.” He reminded himself before checking the clock. Good thing the working hours were over and he could finally go home. Not to celebrate, to go to sleep as soon as he could.

Now that he walked inside the lobby and took the elevator, the night was colder than before. As he rested his back against the wall, eyes closed, he wondered what she was doing right now, whether she ate properly. He was her boyfriend, he had to worry about her all the time.

The doors slid open and he walked inside his flat after entering the pin-code. Darkness welcomed him as soon as he closed the door. As he was about to turn on the lights, he was puzzled by the alluring scent everywhere. He automatically took a long inhale by the beautiful scent of lavender and rose, forgetting to find out the source.

His heart fluttered a little suddenly as he smiled a little and walked inside, placing his bag down somewhere. When he came into the living room, he was surprised by the heavenly sight of candles dancing their flares in the dark. He blinked and his heart stopped for a second. Wait, candles?

That's when, he heard a soft music playing faintly. As much as he was creeped out at first, he was more curious to find out the strange changes inside his flat so he followed the sound quickly. He ended up in the dining room where he found his dining table filled with his favorite foods with two candles burning. Gasping at the arrangement, he scanned the items with a chuckle, completely unaware of the mystery behind everything.

The music ended and that's when he heard a voice singing the happy birthday song from behind. Turning around instantly, he froze in place to see Yoon Min turning on the lights and approaching him with a cake in her hands. There was a huge smile plastered on her face as she was decked up like a doll and repeated the song again. It didn’t take her long to break out in chuckles as she placed the cake on the table and clapped her hands loudly.

“Happy Birthday, Seokjinnie!”

Seokjin was speechless, wordless, shocked as pale to find her here unexpectedly. Then it all clicked. Oh God, what an idiot...

“Y-You--”

“Surprise~” Yoon Min sing-songed.

Now that the lights were on properly, he could actually take in the view of his flat. She decorated the place with candles and sprayed a heart-fluttering scent all over. The dining room was decorated with balloons and his favorite foods. There were even alphabets stuck to the wall that spelled his name. And she was dressed in a beautiful white dress, a colorful birthday hat on her head and pink lips glistening.

Seokjin's mouth was slightly open as he was trying to understand what actually happened.

Placing the cake on the table, she expressed, “So how did you like your surprise? I never left! I was in your apartment all day. I didn’t know what to do for you so I planned this small surprise all by myself. I wanted to prepare your foods but you know how bad I cook so I ordered them.” She let out an apologetic chuckle. “Oh, but I baked the cake and designed it myself. It took quite some time but I think it's edible.”

As she pointed at the cake, his eyes noticed the caring details on the cake; how she prepared a chocolate cake, a few candles and his photo standing on the top, wrote his name and the birth date artistically. He wanted to preserve it and submit it to a museum. She did all these for him?

“Oh, oh I forgot the important things!” Yoon Min exclaimed before running off to somewhere. She returned after a minute with two gift boxes. Placing them in front of him, she said with an exciting smile, "Go on, open them.”

Seokjin was still in shock honestly, debating how to react now to show how happy he was. But he knew no matter what he did, he wouldn’t be able to show his hearts' content so he focused on opening the gifts. Slowly taking time to peal the wrapping paper carefully, the first box revealed a collection of many things such as a classic premium quality leather wallet, some good quality pens, a good quality noise-canceling headphone, a Sunday Cologn, a crewneck sweatshirt and a pair of sunglasses. He literally gasped at her by the amount of things she got him.

Unable to speak, he only stuttered this far, “Yah, these are way too--”

“Let me finish. I didn’t know what to get you since you've everything so I just bought the necessary things you need. Your wallet's worn out, you need pens in your office, a headphone for your free time, a personal favorite cologne for you, a sweatshirt that is cozy and nice and a pair of sunglasses. There, all you can use daily!” She seemed confident.

His mind was going crazy by the immense amount of happiness she was giving him all at once that he didn’t know what to say to to her. Before anything, she added again, “And I've one more thing for you.”

His eyes widened when she said that. How much did she spend on him? She moved the second gift box forward so that he could open it. It was rather small than the first one. He took it and opened it bit by bit, only to find a cute keychain that had a special message for him.

To my favorite person Kim Seok Jin, may you find me in every precious moment of your life.

From Yoon Min”

“It's kind of cringey.” Yoon Min chuckled apologetically and her smile was embarrassed.

As she waited for his overall words about everything, she was losing her expectation. There wasn’t any reaction he was giving her; neither bad or good. As if she really didn’t do much for him and whatever she did was disappointing. Then when she thought deeply, she actually didn’t do anything special. Rather it felt ordinary.

“D-did you like the gifts?” She still managed to murmur, hoping he would at least give a nod.

She was given the answer soon, but Seokjin decided to use action instead of words. So when Yoon Min found him turning towards her, cupping her cheeks and pressing his lips on her soft ones without any warning, she practically gasped after a few seconds, unable to believe the moment. Her eyes were the largest and her heartbeat accelerating inside her chest gradually. She didn’t figure out he planned to do this at all. And she never imagined their first kiss would happen so quickly and unexpectedly.

A sparkling affection captured her soul, the fastest beating of her heart slowing dancing in the rhythm of love. He never stopped for a second, as if he was pouring his gratitude into it, one arm wrapping around her waist to pull her closer. There was a secret smile brushing on his lips that were showing the symptoms of a first kiss. When he kissed Jisoo for the first time, he felt nothing; he forced himself to believe it was wonderful. But her lips felt heavenly against his. The warmth tingling in his stomach, the faint but quick heartbeats, the sweet addiction were so beautiful and dreamy.

On the contrary, the sensation of his lips was more beautiful than anything she ever encountered in her life. Making her other senses strong, her eyelids fluttered close and wrapped her arms around his, slowing getting used to returning the kiss affectionately. For a moment, she forgot everything around them, just him and her against the million stars in the universe, drowned in an inseparable bond with each other. It was outstanding how the kiss was affecting their feelings, their desire and love. How intensely they couldn’t stop claiming one another's lips for a second. It was a sweet, passionate kiss that had them pressed against each other like magnets. A special memory to preserve for the future.

They wanted to stay like that for a lifetime, being in each others' arms and feeling euphoric in that infinite moment of love.

When Seokjin pulled away from her slowly, he noticed her flushed, red cheeks and constant breathing that made him squeal in silence. He smiled a little and brushed a hand over her head,

“You...are my greatest gift.”

Yoon Min blinked shyly before realizing their heads had come closer so without wasting another minute, she had pulled him into another heart-fluttering kiss, knowing this would get addictive soon.

What on Earth am I writting these days? I'm drained out a lot. I deeply apologize for the emotionless chapters recently. I'm kinda making the story pace fast.
