Chapter 58

The Montmorency Falls was the Quebec City region’s second most-visited tourist site. It had been told that this waterfall was higher than Niagara Falls. This was a popular picnic spot for the residents of the Quebec City and a tourist attraction for the thousands of travelers who go through the region.

There was a suspension bridge over the waterfall that connected one side of the falls to the other. Since it was nighttime, there were a few people on the bridge, admiring the magnificence of the large waterfall. That's where Seok Jin and Yoon Min were standing, leaning on the railing.

Yoon Min was staring at the space with a straight face. It might look like she was watching the falls, but she couldn’t. Not after what happened. The mere thought about what happened an hour ago was still lingering around her head, which was the reason behind her headache currently. They just had a big fight because of her. How could she let that happen? She thought she was being careful about her feelings for him.

“You okay?”

She glanced slightly towards the man beside her, almost surprised. Due to her engaging thoughts about the fight, she forgot he was there with her. She groaned before running her hand through her hair, messing them up, “I should be the one asking you, Sir.” she closed her eyes in pure regret and looked away.

The CEO didn’t reply instantly. Even though the lingering pain behind his soft eyes showed his sadness, he tried to make her feel better. He reassured her lightly, not looking at her,

“It wasn’t your fault.”

“Nor was yours.” She added under her breath.

If only she acted heartless back then, if only she hadn't pitied him and didn't wrap her arms around him; he wouldn’t have to get into this wrong mess. Swallowing her anger and sadness, she looked over her shoulder to get a view of his face. She couldn’t tell why his eyes were hiding his emotions when they should be exposing them in the form of tears. Biting on her lips, she proceeded to ask him softly,

“You aren't m-mad at me?”

Seokjin almost immediately faced her and shook his head. Which caused her to feel more bad about everything. He was trying to act fine but in her eyes, she could see how painfully he was breaking down. How the pieces of his heart were tearing apart and still holding onto each other, as if not being fully broken was what mattered. But she knew he was feeling worthless, the feeling of anger, disappointment mixed together.

It was all because of her foolish act.

“No, I'm not.” He said quickly before looking down to watch the falls.

She didn’t know if it was a lie or not, so she looked down as well to watch the water waves falling down strongly.

“Jisoo has a reason to behave like this.” Seokjin suddenly spoke up after minutes of silence. He had the feel he needed to explain it to Yoon Min, or himself mostly; that his girlfriend wasn’t arrogant for no reason.

“She used to be spoiled by her family. Not until she chose the acting career. Her family wanted her to choose law to save the family tradition. So when she chose her dream over theirs, they broke off contact with her and never talked to her for all these years. Her brother sometimes would come by and visit her. But no news about her parents.”

Yoon Min listened attentively as she never heard of Jisoo's past before. She barely knew anything about her family. Now she realized how absent-minded she's been.

“Life of celebrities is tougher than we think. You have to stay perfect every single second. The world watches you, hears you, discusses about you. Pretty much tiring, right?” He let out a breathless chuckle unnecessarily. “Jisoo's the most popular actresses of our country so it's like millions of eyes are on her life every moment. She can't stay perfect all the time, of course.”

“So she blames all the stress and anger on you?” That was the only conclusion Yoon Min could reach.

Seokjin nodded his head, “Yeah, because I'm someone she trusts and loves. She believes she can use me in any way she wants. Like blaming me for her faults, taking her anger on me because...she doesn’t have anyone in her life right now to do that.”

After listening to his words, she turned quiet and pursed her lips. It wasn’t like she disliked Jisoo, but she was quite shocked by her lifestyle. Who knew she could feel like them as well? At this point, all three of them were on the same boat where they didn’t have anyone in their life, but each other.

What we see is not always true.

That didn’t really make Jisoo look any good. Still she couldn’t just use her boyfriend like an emotion toy. She just hurt him in any way she wanted. But his boyfriend here seemed to be completely a fool for her. Even after being hurt, he was finding excuses to make her look good.

How revolting...

Shaking her head, she let out a long sigh and confessed, “That’s why we need to stay happy.”

Seokjin turned towards her with a half-curious smile, wanting to know the reason behind her statement.

“Happiness makes people kind. When someone is cruel to you, it’s because they're tired. Knowing this makes it easier to forgive them. Knowing this also makes it easier to stay kind.” Yoon Min paused to take a breath, unable to form the next words. Maybe she was too overwhelmed all on a sudden.

“So if you try to stay happy, you will be able to forgive Ms. Kim easily, thinking maybe she's just tired.”

Seokjin smiled at her beautiful advice, but it was a little smile that didn’t reach his eyes. He looked at her, a bit shocked how she could present an idea like that with deep emotions and truth. She said it quite simply when the words weren’t simple at all. He stared at her, unsure of what to say, how to react.

Once he stared at her, he found it hard to look away, hard to say anything, hard to move. At this moment, he noticed everything about her as she wasn’t looking at him or wasn’t even aware of his passionate stare. Among the countless pretty features of her face, the silent heart that resided in her chest, hiding from the world was the most beautiful of all hearts. Sometimes he wondered if he could ever get a glimpse of her heart, do anything to heal it and protect it with his best.

When Yoon Min realized his stare, it didn’t take her long to blush as she slowly turned towards him and met his extremely beautiful eyes. Eyes that were worth to drown inside and never return. Eyes that should belong among the stars. But she knew those eyes weren’t meant to look at someone like her.

To ruin the bond between them, she hesitantly asked, looking away to the opposite direction,

“Are you happy, CEO Kim?”

She expected a Yes from him when she could feel his head nodding. But what she didn’t anticipate of what he added at the end.

“I'm happy when I'm with you.”

Yoon Min lost words to say, she swallowed hard and begged the beating of her heart to calm itself out of excitement. She didn’t give him any look or words as she herself was too surprised by his comeback. This man always said whatever there was in his mind, making it harder for the girl to stay in her boundaries. She hoped he knew he had a dangerous effect on her and he should stop saying this things.

But on the other hand, she saw his face blooming that star-like smile upon saying that so if she was the reason behind his smile and his happiness, shouldn’t she consider it a golden gift? She was walking closer to his heart without even trying or doing anything, and she wondered if it was right for her to do that. She couldn’t make a man feel special if he's taken by someone else already.

That's when, Seokjin suggested, “Should we go back now?” He had no idea why he came here at the first place, maybe to spend more time with her and to release his mind from all the negative thoughts.

She was glad he interrupted at the right time, once she started to think about their relationship, she would travel inside a black hole where nothing else in the world mattered. It would take her quite some time to return, but every time she was unsuccessful in finding an answer.

So she nodded vigorously and took a step back first, before turning around and walked to a certain direction. He followed her and walked by her side calmly, with no words exchanged between them.

Yoon Min thought the days in Canada were full of surprises, both good and bad. She never thought she would get to experience a lot of events here, from meeting her boss's long lost father to saving unique memories with him. Especially the times she spent with Seokjin. They felt like a dream come true. It felt like he willingly wanted to step inside that special place of her heart, but only if there wasn’t a third wheel between them.

Just when she thought the night was over, she had to gasp lightly at the touch of his hand tightening around hers with no warning. Yoon Min instantly snaped her gaze to him with wide eyes and parted lips to ask him why he was doing it. Why was he holding her hand? He shouldn’t be doing it. Did he forget her place in his life?

But unlike her, Seokjin seemed to be behaving normally with his face serious and not bothered to see her reaction. Had he gone nuts?

“Sir--”

“You're not my secretary...as of now, Yoon Min.” With that saying, his hand tightened around hers more protectively.

Millions of question took birth in her brain which was still trying to process the meaning behind that sentence. She looked down to see their intertwined hands rocking in the air beautifully, as if the sight of their hands together was a perfect picture, drawn by the artists of destiny. Her hand fit perfectly inside his hand, which urged her to tell him not to let go of her hand no matter how the circumstances arise in the future. She pressed her lips together, not knowing whether it was to hide her neverending smile or to stop her heart from fluttering like a butterfly.

Holding his hand sent her heart flying and her stomach flipping almost every minute. She could feel her face heating up, don't blame her; she was holding hands with the man that came into her life on a blue & grey day and saved her for the first time. Since then, he's been saving her, helping her, making her feel special in every chance. It would be choosing death if she didn’t fall for his heart. And right now, the man she dreamed to be close with was holding her hand, such a tiny action mattered more than anything.

With a soft, hidden smile, Yoon Min stayed silent during the entire walk, admiring their hands connected together in an unbreakable bond. While Seokjin prayed to Almighty not to let this night end any sooner, because by the time the morning will arrive, he would have to let go of this precious hand sadly.
