Chapter 4- mean girls
Shock was a good word to describe how I felt as I watched our school's new bad boy swagger towards us with a smirk on his perfect face. Yes, we had hung out today but did that mean he was actually going to start hanging out with us? Why was this even happening? WHY?
I guess I wasn't the only surprised one though, as I turned back to the table I saw the other four watching wide-eyed with their mouths hanging open in shock. Well, at least I wasn't the only one in surprise.
"Is he coming our way?" Lachie whispered. "Why is he coming our way?"
"Didn't you say you had a class with him earlier Riley?" Suzan asked as I felt my face flush up.
"Y-yeah" I stuttered as my four friends all looked at me with inquisitive expressions. God, why was this always happening to me? "We kinda talked but not really, so I have NO idea why he's coming over. He probably doesn't even remember my-"
"Hay Riley"
I practically choked on my own words as the voice broke out in my ears, my neck snapped around quicker then I could think, bringing me face to face with Caden.
When I turned to him I got a strange feeling in my stomach, it was like I had completely forgotten what he looked like until this moment were the two of us were looking at each other, and everything about him came flooding back to me all at once. I didn't know what it was, but something about him gave me a lot of really strange tingly feelings, anxiety? Stress? The thought that he might rape me? Who knows. And so here I was, gaping at the new boy with no idea how to respond.
Caden didn't wait for a response from though as he turned his attention away from me and over to the others. "You guys mind if I sit here?" he asked.
Suzan, Sam and Lachie all looked lost for words, but it was Beth who managed to answer first. "By all means, come sit down," she said with a sly smile on her face. God, this couldn't end well.
I think Beth had been expecting Caden to come and sit beside her, but instead, he hopped right down in-between Sam and ME. As Caden sat down, his arm brushed against mine and I felt my neck hairs tingle at that moment- probably because of shirt fabric or something, yeah that was probably it!
I looked past Caden and over to Sam who looked slightly uncomfortable for whatever reason, but I ignored it, it was probably nothing.
"So" Caden said after a brief moment, before turning to me "Do you wanna introduce me to your friends Riley boy?"
I cringed at the Riley boy part, no one had called me Riley boy for over four years and I was not willing to let this new boy start calling me that name, even if it was better than 'Rainbow boy'
"Oh- yeah' I said quickly "Um, well- I suppose you already know me. The guy on your right is Sam Gardener, then across from us we have Lachie Grey, Suzan Watts and-"
"Beth Scarron" Beth cut me right off as she stood and shook Caden's hand 'It's an honour to properly meet you, Mr Grand," she said way to Melodramatically. Honestly, Even if this guy was gay Beth would do anything in her power to make him hop over to the straight side.
"Well it's nice to meet you too Beth' Caden grinned as he sat back down and stretched back, causing his shirt to lift just the slightest, his finely detailed abs became just the slightest bit visible to us all, and just as I had feared, I found myself looking, witch, I really shouldn't have. Well, it wasn't all that bad. Yeah, it was weird but the others were all doing the same so It wasn't weird for me to do it then.
All around us I could see the other students glancing every so often over to Caden. Really? Could they NOT get enough of this guy? Weren't they aware that staring was rude and staring for too long was really uncomfortable? Gosh, some people honestly!
Six girls near us continued to glance over at us but when I caught their eyes they quickly went back to whatever boring shit girls did at break. But I wasn't the only one who had noticed these stalking students either.
'Their watching us' Suzan said submissively as she took a bite out of her apple 'They must find you really interesting if they can't stop looking at you Caden'
'Well, at least with Caden here were kinda popular' Lachie said dolefully "Not really, but, you get my idea"
"Doesn't it bother you that everyone keeps looking at you though?" Sam said "I feel pretty violated myself" Hah, could relate to that.
"No not really" Caden shrugged with a smirk "They only wanna know if the Rumours are true" Ah yes. The rumours.
I could see the others wanted to know if they were true too. Suzan and Lachie were both too polite to ask. Sam might, but for some reason, he wasn't acting like his usual self. As for me- well I just ended becoming a mess when I tried talking to Caden. So that left Beth, who probably would ask Caden about the rumours, there was no doubting that.
"Ah yes, perhaps you could enlighten us about these- Rumours," Beth said strumming her fingers together as she wiggled her eyebrows at me. See? I was ALWAYS right.
"Beth!" Suzan hissed under her breath "Don't ask that!"
"Suzan, babe, don't act like you don't wanna know about the rumours" Beth scoffed as she rolled her eyes "I'm pretty sure everyone wants to know" the thing about Beth didn't seem to have any filter at all. When you asked her not say something to someone she would say it no matter what, that's why we didn't tell her anything most of the time.
I had expected Caden to get all territorial at this, but he simply shrugged with a smirk on his face. "Your right," he said dismissively "That's why everyone's been looking at me, they just wanna know if all the gossip is true"
"Well maybe you tell us if the gossip is true," Beth said eagerly "If we wanna get close then we need to know about each other-!"
"God, calm down Beth-"
"No chance BITCH!" Beth yelled at Suzan as a few people glanced our way at the sound of Beth's OBNOXIOUSLY loud voice. Honestly, was there a day were Beth wasn't getting us unwanted attention? No, the answer was ALWAYS no. "Oh my gosh, Beth can't you see you're freaking him out!" Sam rolled his eyes 'Your like his freaky little demon!'
'Speaking of demons' Beth said as her face turned flat "Look who's coming our way" I turned to were Beth was staring and sure enough, more trouble was coming our way. Six demons to be exact.
At the front stood Kenzie McClain, the cliché mean girl queen- whatever the hell you wanna call it, that was her. She always wore way too much makeup and clothes that were so small a barbie doll could fit into them comfortably, she also wore hair extensions which made her entire head look slightly strange but I think people were too scared to tell her that. Not surprising as she was nothing but a HORRIBLE VENOMOUS SNAKE who was mean to everyone!
behind Kenzie were Erin and Brittny, twins who lookedso similar it was actually really disturbing. They both had the same long brown hair, exact blush and eyeliner and even THE SAME CLOTHES! they were like the twins in the shining, unpredictable and prone to appearing right behind you!
Then there was Luke, Adam and Zero, the three big dumb Jocks in our year that everyone feared and found low-key hot, Luke and Adam were like boulders, Huge, strong and very intimidating while Zero wasn't as big, but just as mean, especially to me for whatever reason.
Then, of course, there was Alexis, my sister who I actually had little to complain about compared to her vile friends. At least she actually got my name right, unlike Erin who had been calling my RYAN since we met. Everyone called them the popular kids, we called them the dumb basic bitches- besides Alexis, of course.
"Everyone remember your training" Lachie murmured quickly "Don't say anything and only speak unless spoken to- and remember to compliment them with anything"
"Hah, good luck with that" Beth scoffed "I'm not gonna let some anorexic plastic bitches tell me what I can and can't do, No offence Riley" she added in quickly.
"None taken bae" I shrugged in response.
"So there that bad huh?" Caden crossed his arms "They cause you much trouble"
"Nothing we can't throw back at them," Beth said with a smirk.
Within seconds the group reached their table and I felt Zero's eyes digging through me, god he was so STUPID AND ANNOYING. Alexis opened her mouth to say something to me but was cut short by the Queen B Kenzie.
"Hey Riley," Kenzie said in a peppy voice "-And underlings" she finished, her face turning flat as she took little notice of my friends, the BITCH. Kenzie turned her attention to Caden and let out a gasp.
"Oh you must be the new boy then," she said in delight "I've heard so much about you!"
"Good things I hope," Caden said with a smile as Kenzie practically pushed me aside to sit beside Caden. Honestly, this girl had to go learn some manners with the way she acted. she was worse than a snake- perhaps a bat, YES! She was a blood-sucking bat.
"Oh everything I've heard about you has been good!" she said clicking her high-heels together in delight which made me internally gag.
As Kenzie scooted me aside though I noticed her friends giving each other uneasy glances, I suppose what they had heard about Caden wasn't as good as what Kenzie was saying. After all, it was Brittny who had come up with the Rumour that he had killed someone. I didn't know why Kenzie was flirting up to Caden, he was gay Afterall- or was that a rumour too? HONESTLY, I had no idea what to believe! especially if Caden refused to talk about anything to do with his past.
"So anyway" Kenzie continued, twirling her hair around with her finger playfully "Were having a party Friday night and I wanted you to come along since your new and- well I think you should start hanging out with us. What do you say? wanna come?"
I could sense Beth scoffing at Kenzie's words which weren't a surprise. Beth would literally yank Kenzie's hair extensions out with her bare fists if she really wanted to, but that would lead to undesirable consequences I don't think she was willing to face. But the urge to not pull out her hair extensions WAS tough, especially with them just sitting there beside me.
I quickly pushed the thought of hair extensions our of my head as Caden spoke. "Sure. I'm happy to come to your party" he said, "Where's it at?"
"My house" but it wasn't Kenzie speaking this time. It was Alexis, who held a devious smile on her makeup-drowned face. "It's me and my brother Riley's birthday today so we're gonna celebrate Friday night at our place" my sister continued "And I'm happy for you to come Caden" No, she really wasn't but if Alexis said otherwise I'm pretty sure Kenzie would eat her alive, but that was the LEAST of my problems.
Caden was coming to OUR house on FRIDAY, to a party that hadn't even been MENTIONED, I didn't want a part at our house! High school parties were one of the top 10 things I did not enjoy and Alexis knew it, that's why she had volunteered to host it at our house probably. But it wasn't like I had something against Caden, he seemed like a nice guy- there was just something about him that made me feel- strange.
"Yay!" Kenzie clapped her hands together "So would you like me to bring you over to the party after school on Friday in my car?"
Caden hesitated for a moment but shook his head Nah, I think Riley can show me where to go" Caden said turning to me with a smile. Suddenly feeling rather self-assured, I grinned back and turned to Kenzie, who eyed the two of us silently before giving a terrible fake smile.
"Great!" she said in a chirpy voice "Well then, Bye Caden!" and with that Kenzie stood up and strode off in a matter of seconds, her high heels clicking together as her friends and my sister following after her. Zero glanced back at me and scowled before turning forward and moving away with the rest of them like the little bitch he was, UGH.
Several seconds after their departure the bell rang out through the canteen, indicating the end of break. The others all looked up, dazed before standing.
"Well," Suzan said gathering her things "I guess I'll see you guys if you're in my next class. If not, then lunch' and with that, she began to move off with the crowds of people. Lachie gave a quick goodbye before heading in the opposite direction. As Beth, Caden, Sam and I all stood up.
"Well" Beth smirked, turning to Caden "Sounds like your gonna have fun on Friday Caden, you too Riley," she said, winking at me. Before striding away.
"I guess I'll see you Friday night then" Caden smiled "It should be fun"
Yes. Fun. Caden was coming to my house.
