Chapter 3
Athena's eyes fluttered open against the glaring sun up above.
"You're awake."
Athena looked over to her left where Lan was leaning against a tree sharpening his weapons. Looking over to her right, she saw Moiraine laying down fast asleep with a nasty scar on her collarbone.
"She'll be fine. Moiraine is a fighter."
Athena groaned softly before getting up slowly with the help of Lan. She looked down to see her flesh wounds had been healed. Bruises littered her body and she could feel that her arm and a few of her ribs were broken.
"Moiraine tried to heal you as best as she could before she passed out."
Lan wrapped a cloth around the girl's abdomen and also made a sling for her broken arm.
"She was able to heal your more fatal injuries." Lan patted the girl's head affectionately.
"Will she be ok?"
"Of course. We just need to hurry back to Whitetower. An Aes Sedai cannot heal herself which is why they live together nor travel far."
Lan helped Athena onto one of the horses before scooping up Moiraine and getting on the other. The pair continued on down the path toward their destination.
"Hey Lan?" Athena questioned timidly.
"What's the matter?"
"Are those Aes Sedai?"
Lan looked up to see women in red robes looking down upon them from the rocks on horses. A blonde approached them on the path, her eyes gazing at them before falling on Athena with intrigue.
"Lan." The blonde greeted, a scowl appearing on her face seeing the unresponsive form of Moiraine.
She then looked to Athena, her eyes lighting up.
"Interesting."
She gave a small smile to the brunette who flushed her her gaze, immediately looking away.
"The camp is down that way. A healer will be able to tend to Moiraine there." The blonde spoke.
"Thank you Liandrin. Come, Athena."
Liandrin stopped next to Athena holding her horse's reins.
"I can look after her. Moiraine needs your immediate attention."
Lan shot an untrustworthy look at the blonde before looking at Athena who nodded her head at him, signaling that she would be ok. Lan bowed his head as his horse galloped down the path.
"Athena, right?" Liandrin questioned, leading their horses down the path.
"Yes. It's nice to meet you Liandrin." Athena said sweetly, flashing her a smile.
Liandrin chuckled softly with her Ajah following behind her. The women in red looking at each other in surprise not used to hearing Liandrin laugh, ever.
They arrived at the camp which was bustling with women in a variety of colors such as green, red, and yellow. Liandrin hopped off her horse before helping Athena off of hers. It was then that the Aes Sedai saw the bandages and sling.
"Oh! Are you injured? Allow me to heal you."
Liandrin sat Athena down near the campfire before kneeling down in front of her. Athena felt the soothing touch of the One Power flowing through her healing her arm and any other injuries that she had.
"Thank you." Athena spoke softly earning a smile from the blonde.
"It's my pleasure for a sweet thing like you." Liandrin said patting the brunette's head.
"Liandrin. We have to go." One of the red aes sedai informed walking past to her horse.
"Understood. See you another time, Athena." Liandrin smiled with a wink before hopping onto her horse and leading her group away.
Athena waved at Liandrin as she left before taking an open seat by the campfire. Night had fallen once more but the camp was still bustling with activity.
"Well, well. Look whose up and running." Moiraine said standing behind Athena.
Athena gasped and spun around seeing the brunette who gave her a smile. Athena ran towards Moiraine and hugged her tightly.
"You missed me that much huh?" Moiraine laughed rubbing Athena's back gently.
"That she did." Lan said joining the duo.
"Did I miss much while I was out?"
"Not at all. We just arrived a few hours ago." Lan informed.
"I met another Aes Sedai!" Athena spoke excitedly, getting a curious look from Moiraine.
"Which of my sisters have you met?"
"Liandrin!"
A look of alarm appeared on Moiraine's face. She carefully looked Athena up and down for any injuries and was relieved to find none but was surprised to see her all healed.
"She healed my injures while you were unconscious." Athena told the older woman.
"Glad to see she is capable of being useful." Moiraine muttered under breath getting an amused chuckle from Lan.
Athena looked around the camp in awe but was drawn to a small area where butterflies were currently flying about. She giggled and took off to the small patch of flowers watching the butterflies in wonder.
"She's a curious little thing isn't she?" Lan said softly to Moiraine, the pair watching the girl mesmerized by the flying insects.
"More like innocent. The Dark One would do anything to get his hands on her. I will not let anything taint her innocence, especially Liandrin. What were her intentions with Athena?" Moiraine spoke.
"I want to say that she was merely interested in meeting a new channeler, especially one as young as Athena but we both know I'm wrong." Lan said.
Athena lifted a finger for a butterfly to land on it which one did. It was a beautiful monarch butterfly but the colors of its wings were pink with a hint of light blue. Swirls of light floated around Athena and the butterfly, Athena's magic showing itself in response to the brunette's happiness.
Moiraine smiled seeing the girl's magic come out. She was just happy overall seeing Athena happy after everything she had been through. Though, Moiraine's smiled faded when she looked out over the horizon and saw women in black cloaks riding towards them.
"The Dark One's followers. He found her."
