Chapter 49
A/N: Next chapter would be the last chapter. It's been a wonderful journey and honestly, the story is so different than what I initially envisioned it to be. I hope you'll enjoy this chapter.

Raina felt a tug on her heart, it was as if Kabir was singing that last song for her.
"Tu ro kyun kar rahe ho (Why are you crying)?" Sonia asked.
Raina snapped out of her thoughts and felt the wetness on her cheeks. She quickly wiped them away and flashed a quick smiled at her mother.
Damn you, Kabir Varma!
"I got caught up in the moment," she replied and looked over her mother's shoulders. "Naani's (Maternal grandmother's) also crying."
Sonia turned and looked at her mother who was also wiping away tears.
"I really don't understand the both of you," Sonia huffed and got out of her seat. "I need to use the ladies, I'll see you in a while."
Raina and her grandmother shared a look before Naani pulled Raina in for a hug.
"Pagal (Crazy)," she said to Raina.
"Jaanti hoon (I know)," Raina replied, with a bit of a pout.
Raina pulled away from the hug when she realized Arjun had entered the box.
"Bhai (Brother) really did pull quite a stunt on us, huh?" Arjun stated more than asked.
"He sure did," Raina replied, still sniffling. " Are we going backstage now or are we going to give the tortured soul a bit of time?"
"Mr. Tortured Soul needs to make an appearance and sign the merchandise of 100 lucky fans," Arjun informed her. "It was Sunny's idea. However, you can come hang out with the rest of us."
Before she could answer, she heard a ping coming from her phone. She looked down and saw a message from Kabir.
I told you so.
Raina smiled at the message and texted her reply.
Fine, you win. I'm officially a fan.
"Unfortunately, I have an early morning flight to catch," she reminded Arjun. "Can you please send my congrats to Kabir and tell him I'll see him at the airport?"
Arjun was shocked at her response. He didn't know what to say.
"Ok," he finally replied. "I'll tell him that. He wouldn't be very happy though."
"I know," she answered. "But it's a really early flight and I don't want to risk missing it."
"Alright," Arjun relented. "I'll escort you to your car."
The moment Sonia returned, all of them made their way to Raina's car. Raina managed to catch a glimpse of Kabir and sent him a quick wave before disappearing out of the concert hall.
The drive home was quiet, except for the radio playing in the background. Suddenly, a familiar song made its way onto the airwaves and reminded Raina of the dance she shared with Kabir in Goa.
Tera Hone Laga Hoon...
"Raina, after all these sessions are over, can we still be friends?"
If she knew what was coming, she should have said no then and broken off clean. Who knew everything would end up being such a mess?
Upon reaching her home, she suddenly realized how empty it was. After seeing it being filled with all the pictures and memories, she felt like stranger to the the place. It was a similar feeling to what she initially felt when she returned to London. She shrugged off the feeling and decided to go to bed. After all, what she told Arjun was true. She did have a very early morning flight.
***
Kabir was very perplexed when Arjun told him that Raina had left. There were so many things he wanted to tell her. When he called her, her phone was turned off.
But Raina never turns off her phone.
He calmed his mind and decided that a late night visit might not be the smartest thing to do but he really did have something he needed to get off his chest. Something concerning his father.
He had long given up the hope of them being together and had accepted the reality they were going to be nothing but friends. However, he still felt that she was the only one he could trust with his feelings.
Funny thing was, he had actually confesses his little crush to her during dinner on night after he had gotten his results. Although she had shut him down, she did it in the most dignified way possible. There was no fighting, no screaming, no crying, no drunkenness and the best part was that they were still friends despite it all. He admitted, it did sting a little but even then, she had talked him out of it and the night went by smoothly with Sunny and the girls joining him later.
He never told anyone this, obviously. How could he? This would just fuel Ayesha and Di's mad fantasies about him and Raina.
Kabir texted her instead.
Have time for one last session before you leave? It's kind of important.
He put his phone next to his bed and tried to sleep. After all, he had to wake up early to send Raina off.
***
Raina didn't have much luck sleeping. She spent most of her night tossing and turning in her bed. It was 3 in the morning and her flight was at 7. She decided she had 'slept' enough and got up. She turned on her phone and saw a missed call and a text from Kabir.
Call me when you get this.
Not long after she put down her phone, it started ringing.
"Hello?" Raina spoke.
"Hi, sorry to disturb you. I wanted to talk to you last night but you left in such a hurry."
"Yea," she replied. "I was a bit tired."
"How are you feeling now?"
"Better," she lied. Raina felt like a truck had hit her. "I thought you wanted to talk?"
Raina heard a sigh on the other side of the line.
"It's my biological dad. He wasn't who I thought he was."
"Oh," she remembered what Seema told her during Tara's mehndi ceremony. "Kabir, don't freak out but I know."
"I know. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. He cheated on my mom, he was violent... He'd hit her... And I can't believe... I thought back of those three years when I was drunk... I became him, Raina. I became the man my mom tried so hard to protect me from."
"But you're not," Raina assured him. "You're much better than him. You sought for help albeit reluctantly."
"I don't know what to believe in anymore. I always had this notion that my dad was a good and righteous man who loved his family. And now? I don't know."
"I think to a certain extent," she tried to reason with him. "He loved his family."
"But he loved his alcohol more."
"Kabir," she spoke his name calmly. "Remember how you felt when you first started? How hard was it to leave the bottle? That was him."
"I guess that was why my mom decided to leave me. I reminded her of him."
"Did you talk to her about this?" Raina asked. "Like really talked?"
"We didn't have time. It was just minutes before the show. And before you say it, I know. Talk to her, don't jump into unnecessary conclusions. She told me he would have been proud of me, though."
"And do you believe her?" Raina questioned.
Kabir was silent for a while.
"I do. You know Raina, you always know how to make me feel better. I don't know what I'll do after this. Do you really have to go?"
Raina was suddenly very conflicted. She almost told him she wanted to stay but he had suddenly started laughing to himself.
"Of course you wouldn't want to stay. Where would you live? Unless, you really enjoy Ayesha's company that much."
Raina smiled. Typical Kabir.
"I'll see you at the airport," she told him. "Unless there's something else you need to talk about."
"Nah, I'm all better. Thanks."
"Your welcome," she answered. "I have to get ready. Bye."
"Bye."
Raina hung up, feeling a tad bit of sadness. She hasn't left and yet, she had already missed Kabir.
"Get a grip," she scolded herself and begun to get ready for her flight.
***
Kabir couldn't sleep the entire time and all his thought kept drifting to Raina. He had to be fight every urge to drive all the way to her house and meet her. When her text came back, he was over the moon. However, that phone call with her was felt off. It was as if something was bothering her.
He heard a knock and followed by Ayesha's voice.
"Kabir!" Ayesha shouted through the door. "Wake up!"
"I'm up!" Kabir shouted back. "I'll be out in a while."
Kabir took a quick look on the mirror only to realize how awful he looked. He grabbed a cap to hide his the bed hair and a pair of sunglasses to hide his eyebags. He quickly slipped into a t-shirt and a pair of jeans.
"That's it?" Ayesha asked. "You know the media's going to go into a frenzy when they find you at the airport, right?"
"Don't worry," he said. "They won't."
Instead of bringing their car, Kabir drove them over to Sameer's place and had Sameer drive them to the airport. The media was at their usual place but because Ayesha and Sunny was in a getup, they hardly bat an eyelid. Kabir just snuck in between them, trying to draw the least amount of attention possible.
They has agreed to meet Raina at a private lounge he usually hangs out while waiting for his flights. He had also done this half a year ago when Raina left for the first time. Upon reaching, he realized that everyone else was already there.
"About time you guys showed up," Di scolded.
"It was my fault," Sameer spoke up. "I overslept."
Di was a bit shocked at Sameer's response. He was the last person on earth that would do that as out of everyone in the room, he was the most responsible one.
"Where's mom?" Kabir asked, realizing his mother's absence.
"She couldn't make it," Arjun told him.
"Are you guys just going to stand around making small talk or say goodbye to Raina?" Ayesha reminded them.
Raina looked around the room to realize how lucky she was to make so many good friends due to her saying yes to treat Kabir.
"Thank you everyone for coming," she said. "I really appreciate it."
She heard a wave murmurs of different versions of your welcome and it's our duty as friends. Her eyes landed on Kabir and for some reason refused to move on. He smiled at her and she smiled back. A pang of sadness washed over her heart.
"You girls better get going," Kabir told Raina. "The line at the immigration can get pretty long."
Raina nodded and called over her mom and grandmother. They bid everyone goodbye but Kabir and their bags was no where to be seen.
Kabir had decided to help them with their bags and was standing at the entrance of the lounge.
"I thought you were going to run away with our bags," Sonia joked with him.
"And what would I achieve with that?" Kabir asked.
"I don't know," she replied. "Maybe get us to stay?"
Kabir just shook his head and hugged her.
"Bye Soniaji," he told her.
"Bye," she answered. "Be good or I'll send Raina back to unleash hell on you."
He laughed and moved on to Naani.
"Naani," he called affectionately. "Thank you."
"Haye mere bachcha (Oh my child)," she hugged him. "Yeh toh mere farz the (It's my duty)."
He smiled as she let go of him.
"Jao (Go)," she continued. "Raina ko goodbye bolo (Say your goodbye with Raina)."
The two were left alone as Sonia and her mother made their way to the the security check.
"I guess this is really it," Kabir spoke up.
"Yeah," Raina sadly agreed.
"Thank you for everything," he said.
Raina nodded in response.
"We'll still be friends right?" Kabir asked.
Tears begun welling up in Raina's eyes.
"Bye Kabir," she said as she launched herself into him.
Taken slightly aback by her actions, Kabir only managed to put an arm around her before she pulled away.
Raina gave Kabir a wide smile and before he could say anything, she walked away. Dumbfounded, he could only watch as her form disappeared into the crowds.
Kabir didn't even get to say goodbye.
