Chapter 41

A/N: Finally, an update that's not a month away... 😂😂😂 I still don't know when can I go back to my one week once update but I'll try to update as quickly as possible... 😁😁😁

For now, here's the next part to the story... Enjoy!!!

***

"Kabir, eating and drinking up my entire month's supply wouldn't help you feel better," Sameer chastised.

Kabir sighed as he put down his 7th can of Pepsi. Sameer can be quite a mood spoiler sometimes.

"Aur kya karoon (What else can I do)?" Kabir asked his friend, jokingly. "I was bored and upset, aur aap busy tha (and you were busy). I'd love to entertain myself but then I can't touch alcohol or else everyone would kill me."

This time, it was Sameer's turn to sigh. As much as he enjoyed Kabir's friendship, Kabir can be quite annoying sometimes. Especially, when Kabir decides to show up unannounced at his restaurant in the middle of the lunch rush hour. Only when Kabir was ushered into the "staff only" parts of the restaurant, did the crowds calm down and normalcy returned. However, two hours later, after the crowds subdued, Sameer found his friend rummaging through his stock cabinets instead, eating and drinking anything that was in sight.

"Your alcoholic tendencies are going to end up giving you a liver failure," Sameer stated. "Can you please not add diabetes to that list? Come on, the coast is clear. Let's talk somewhere else."

Kabir crawled out of Sameer's supply cabinet with his hair disheveled and bread crumbs all over his shirt. In short, he looked like a mess.

"Can someone please help clean this up?" Sameer then hollered out to his staff. One of them quickly nodded and went to grab the cleaning supplies as Kabir was led out of the kitchen.

"So," Sameer said as they sat down in an empty restaurant. "What's got you so down in the dumps?"

"Rahul sir ne mere new album reject kar diya (Rahul sir rejected my new album)," Kabir told him.

"That's it?" Sameer laughed. "I thought you had a fight with your new girlfriend."

"Not funny," Kabir sulked. "And she's not my new girlfriend, she's my doctor."

"I like how you assume we're talking about Dr. Raina here," Sameer smirked. "Is there really nothing going on? The two of you seemed really close at Vishal and Tara's wedding."

"For an entire week people have been asking this same question," Kabir huffed. "What else do you expect? And no, I'm absolutely sure she's not my girlfriend."

"I was just asking," Sameer shrugged. "In that case, then why don't you go to your doctor? I'm sure she'll be able to help you better."

"I was," he confessed. "But I thought I'd drop by first, since we didn't have much time to catch up during the wedding."

"About that," Sameer said. "Where were you during the reception?"

"Raina's nani (maternal grandmother) got admitted into hospital," Kabir revealed. "I was with Raina the whole time."

"And you have the audacity to say that the both of you aren't dating," Sameer jokingly scolded. "According to everyone else, the both of you are inseparable, practically joint to the hip."

"Shut up yaar," Kabir retorted. "She's just a friend. You know, I'd do the same for you, right?"

"Fine," Sammer relented. "But as soon as you two start dating, I want to be the first to know."

"Whatever," Kabir muttered. "How's business, anyway?"

"You saw the crowd," Sameer said matter-of-factly. "What do you think?"

"I think you need a new restaurant," Kabir replied. "This place is nice and comfy and all but your reservation list is getting out of hand. Not to mention, that horribly long queue outside your restaurant."

"Kabir," he warned. "If you think of doing something that will sabotage my business..."

"Um..." Kabir said, sheepishly. "Is finding a new location or renovating this one count as sabotaging your business?"

"Kabir," Sameer sighed. "I can't accept any more help from you. I'm happy where I am and the reason there's a queue outside was because you brought them here."

"Stop being so modest, you duffer," Kabir scolded. "And the last time I helped you was ages ago."

"Kabir, I..."

"Fine then make me your business partner," Kabir stated, cutting Sameer off. "You rejected me once because you said you wanted to make it on your own. Now that you've made it, can you please let me get involved?"

"I'll think about it," Sameer sighed. There was no winning Kabir sometimes. "Now, don't you have a doctor to visit?"

"I never said I was visiting her," Kabir responded. "I said I was going to tell her and with today's technology, I can just send her a simple message or call her or..."

"So you came by to disturb me," Sameer interjected.

"No," Kabir replied with a sly grin. "I came by to see how you were doing."

"Kabir," Sameer scolded. "Get out of here!"

"What if I don't want to," he teased.

"Kabir, yaar!" Sameer groaned.

"Fine," he replied, as he got off his chair. "I'll see you soon."

Sameer waved him off, annoyed. As soon as Kabir left, one of the staff came up to him.

"Sir," the staff said. "I just checked our stock cabinet and I found out that we have ran out of canned pineapples."

"Aise kaise ho sakte (How is this possible)?" Sameer asked. "I just bought them yester... KABIR!"

***

It was not until Raina had left the office that she received Kabir's call. At first, she was worried for him but when Kabir narrated what he did to Sameer, she let out a breath in relief.

"Ao, how's your nani (maternal grandmother) today?" Kabir asked, changing the subject.

"She's up and about," Raina sighed. "Mom found her cooking in the kitchen this morning; but that's just how she is."

"I could say the same about you," Kabir smirked. "You're such a workaholic, live a little, Raina."

"I think I've 'lived' enough this past week," she replied. "Running from paparazzi, wearing disguises, dancing in public..."

"In your defense," Kabir said, cutting Raina off. "You dance pretty well."

Raina smiled.

"What?" Kabir asked jokingly, filling the silence. "No snarky comebacks?"

"Nope," she answered. "I think you've heard enough of it last week to last you a lifetime."

"Yeah," he agreed. "So, we're still on this Thursday?"

"Yup," she told him. "And hopefully by the end of the day I'll have your reports ready. Then, after you pick them up, we're done."

"Thanks Raina," he said, a hint of sorrow in his voice. "I'll see you Thursday then. Bye."

"Bye," she replied and hung up.

Kabir felt weird when Raina said that Thursday was his last session. He thought back on all his previous sessions and that entire week in Goa. Despite only knowing her for slightly over a month, Kabir felt as though they have known each other for a very long time. He felt he could be comfortable around her, like he could be himself. He only felt that way with Ayesha, his old pals and with Tara.

He heard a knock on his door.

"Kabir!"

Kabir sighed and opened the door. It was Ayesha.

"Are you ok?" Ayesha asked, concerned.

"I'm fine," he replied. "I just got off the phone with Raina. You're home late."

"I know," she said. "Work's a little bit crazy lately. We're launching a new collection."

There was a wave of silence before Ayesha spoke up again.

"So," she started. "What's VKAS' favorite band member going to to do now?"

"I tried talking to Sameer about letting me join his restaurant as a partner," he answered. "He said he'll think about it."

"Have you ever thought of joining mom's company?" Ayesha asked. "Or dad's?"

"You know how I am with fashion, right?" Kabir asked in return. "And as for Ravi Desai's company, I think it's best if we just leave that out of the picture."

"I could offer you a modelling contract," she proposed. "We're currently looking for models for our new collection."

"I'll think about it," he replied. "It's not my favorite thing but at least I've got something more productive to do then sit around at home. But can you at least check with mom before you decide? It's her company."

Ayesha nodded. She then fidgeted around

"Kabir?" Ayesha asked, nervously. "Have you ever thought of dating again? After Tara?"

"Why the sudden interest?" Kabir asked in return.

"Can't I be curious about my brother's love life?" Ayesha retorted. Kabir cocked an eyebrow, not believing her. "Mom and Di made a remark about how good you and Raina looked together and..."

"You know there's nothing going on  between us, right?" Kabir sighed.

"I know," Ayesha said defensively. "But have you at least entertained the idea about dating someone? Anyone for that matter?"

"I have thought about dating again," Kabir responded. "But right now, I'm still... There are things that I still need to figure out. I don't think it's a good time to start a relationship right  now. The concern is much appreciated though."

"But what if there was someone who  wants to be with you?" Ayesha asked.

"I don't know anyone who would want to be with me," he laughed.

"I said 'if'," she said, her voice slightly raised.

"Ok chill," he told her. "I heard you the first time. Honestly, I don't know, it depends. But I must say, whoever this person is, she must be out of her mind."

"I'm sure there will somebody who's crazy enough to marry you," Ayesha replied.

Kabir lightly tapped Ayesha on the top of her head.

"Ouch," she cried out.

"I barely touched you," he responded. "Cry baby."

"Jerk," Ayesha retorted.

Kabir smiled. It reminded him of all the times they fought when they were kids. How time flies.

"Where's your beloved hubby, by the way?" Kabir asked. "I haven't seen him since lunchtime."

"Neither have I," she replied. "I was told he has a meeting when I called him to tell him I'll be late. I don't even know if he got the message or not."

"Hmm," Kabir wondered. What could Sunny be up to? "What about dinner?"

"Not yet," she answered, shaking her head. "We were supposed to go out for a movie then head to dinner but looks like that's cancelled."

"Still have the tickets?" Kabir asked.

"We only have 10 minutes before the movie starts," she told him. "Even with all the commercials in, I don't think we can make it in time. With all the traffic..."

"You do realise Sunny still has his bike  in the garage, right?" Kabir smirked.

"He's so going to kill you," Ayesha said, an evil glimmer in her eyes. "But I like your idea."

"Then what are we waiting for?" Kabir asked, dragging Ayesha out of the room.

"Kabir! Slow down!" Ayesha shouted as she tried to match his long stride.

After the numerous complains he had heard about Ayesha's motorbike skills from Sunny, he too, came to the same conclusion to never sit on a bike when Ayesha's the driver. However, it was also thanks to Ayesha's mad skills that they managed to get to the cinema on time (thankfully, in one piece). After the show, Kabir realised that he had 10 miss calls from Sunny and a message asking him to drop by Rahul's office. Ayesha, on the other hand, received at least 20 missed calls and 30 apology messages.

"Should we surprise him at the office if he's still there?" Kabir asked.

"Sure," she answered. "But can we get food first? I'm starving!"

"No problem," he replied.

"I'm driving," Ayesha announced casually as they begun walking up to Sunny's bike.

"Oh no," Kabir responded as he yanked Ayesha back by her handbag slings. "I don't intend to die tonight."

"Not if I can get there first," Ayesha said as she ran ahead of Kabir.

The two then begun racing to the bike, as passerbys look on. Although Ayesha had a head start, Kabir's long limbs gave him an advantage as he reached the bike first.

"Told you I'm driving," Kabir teased as Ayesha glowered at him. "You get to pick where to eat though."

Ayesha accepted the peace offering and got onto the bike. She knew a place that would make Kabir regret his long legs.

"I want Japanese," she replied. " And not just any Japanese restaurant, at Seiza."

True enough, Kabir's eyes widen in horror.

"But that place hardly has any leg space when I sit," he whined.

"Not my problem," she stated. "Now, let's go!"

Kabir just sighed and drove away, regretting his decision.
