Chapter 4

A/N: Sorry for the late update! I had too much fun watching Wonder Woman that I totally forgot I had a story to update XD I really need to work harder to remember to update!!! Hehe ;) Let me just say this though... Wonder Woman the movie and Gal Gadot were just pure awesomeness!!! (I can't believe it took me so long to watch it) Although Superman will always been my favorite superhero, Wonder Woman just totally dominate the number 1 spot of my favourite superhero movie!!! (It used to be Brandon Routh's Superman Return) This just shows how awesome women can be!!! Ok, enough blabbering... Back to the story!!!

Ever since Raina had been told she would be assigned Kabir Varma's case, she Googled him, trying to get as much information about the rockstar.

Apparently, Kabir Varma was in high school when he started out by playing in gigs and weddings for his friends and family. At that time, the band only consisted of Kabir, who provided the vocals and played the guitar while his best friend and now brother in law, Sunny, played the bass. It wasn't until his college years when he met Vishal, his drummer, that he took the band seriously. It was by pure luck and chance that Rahul Oberoi, the executive director of Mega Records, discovered them at a local gig and decided to launch them. Rebranded as VKAS, their first album swept the nation by storm and they became an overnight sensation. Known for his soulful and versatile voice, Kabir, after the disband of VKAS, pursued a solo career and continued to ride on his wave of success. That was, until his break up with his longtime girlfriend, Tara Rai. Post break up, his career took a slump when he started drinking to "numb his heartache". However, after an incident during a concert, Kabir zero-ed his chances of reviving his career and retired quietly.

Raina lets out a sigh as she took in he splendour of the mansion in front of her. Perks of being a rockstar, she thought to herself. She muttered a soft prayer and rang the doorbell. It didn't take long before a young woman opened the door.

"Dr. Raina Jaitley?" The woman asked.

"Yeah," Raina replied. "Just Dr. Raina will do."

"I'm Ayesha," Ayesha introduced herself to Raina. "Kabir's sister and Sunny's wife."

"Ah," Raina said. "Nice to meet you. I've spoken to your husband regarding Kabir's case and it shouldn't be an issue if he is willing to cooperate."

"Thank you," Ayesha told her. "I really appreciate you doing this and coming here..."

"It's my duty, Ayesha," Raina replied. "I should also be thankful to you. I don't go out much so this is also like an opportunity to see the city."

"I remember Sunny telling me that you're from London," Ayesha states. "I think we should go in. My brother will be down in a while."

Ayesha led Raina into the living room just as Sunny was coming down the stairs with Kabir in tow.

"Sunny," Raina introduced. "This is Dr. Raina and Dr Raina, this is Sunny, my husband."

Sunny and Raina quickly exchanged greetings before Raina's gaze settled on the man lurking behind them.

"And that's Kabir," Ayesha told Raina. "Please forgive him, he's a bit of an idiot."

"Ayesha," Kabir whined then took a long look at Raina.

She wasn't at all what he expected. Psychiatrists were supposed to be boring people sitting down in lush offices half bothering to listen to their patients. She, on the other hand, was gorgeous! A little nerdy but gorgeous. Kabir stuck out his hand.

"Hi," he said. "Kabir Varma."

"Dr Raina Jaitley," Raina said as she accepted it.

For an alcoholic, Kabir doesn't look that bad. No, stop! Focus! This might just be the big break that you've been waiting for!

Raina quickly withdrew her hand. The handshake had lingered longer than she liked. She cleared her throat and proceeded in a more serious manner.

"Is there anywhere quiet that we can have a chat?" Raina asked the small party in front of her. "It's just that I'd like to understand some things first before I start."

"Of course," Kabir said and led her to the sofa set. He then took a seat in his armchair, so that he was facing Raina.

Ayesha was about to join them when Sunny pulled her back. He shook his head and indicated that it was best if they were left alone. The couple then excused themselves and let Raina continue with her session.

"These are just some standard questions," Raina explained. "I hope you can answer them as truthfully as possible. Don't worry about them being 'right', this isn't a test."

Kabir nodded and motioned for her to proceed.

"How long have you been drinking?" Raina asked.

"Years," Kabir replied. "Usually it was just for family gatherings or social drinking. But for the past few years, things got serious. Three years ago to be exact."

Raina scribbled something in her notepad and continued with her questions. "And may I know why or how you started this addiction?"

Kabir stayed silent. He knew the answer to this question but for some reason he couldn't bring himself to answer. He didn't want to be reminded. Maybe if he just ignored it hard enough they would go away.

"Mr. Varma?" Raina prompted.

Kabir was still silent. However, Rana could clearly see the pain and annoyance that had crept on to his face.

"Mr. Varma," she persisted. "I can't help you if you don't answer me."

"I don't want to answer that question," he told her.

"Why?" Raina asked, professionally. "I can't help you if you don't tell me the source of the problem."

"Because I don't want to!" Kabir shouted. "If you want to know what happened, why don't you just Google? Bloody angrez (English)!"

Who the hell was he to insult her?

Raina stood up with an annoyed expression on her face.

"Mr. Varma," she started. "I'm just doing my job! You didn't need to insult me."

"Insult you?" Kabir retorted as he, too, stood up. "I'm insulted that you wouldn't respect the fact that I don't want to answer the question! I honestly don't know if you're clueless or if you just wanted a reaction!"

"I'm only here to help you get better," she told him. "If you won't answer my questions, I won't be able to find a solution!"

"To hell with solutions!" Kabir roared. "You know, I've been doing quite well before you came. And now? Mere mood kharab kar diya!" (You spoilt my mood!)

Kabir walked over to the counter and grabbed the nearest alcoholic drink. Raina stormed over to the counter and yanked the drink out of Kabir's hand. She then proceeded to throw it in the bin. He gave her a shocked but disgust look. How dare she?! However, that didn't faze him from reaching for another one. Like the last one, she yanked it from his hand again and threw it in the bin. She then gave him a look that challenged him to try it again. He grabbed another one and she did the same thing to it. After throwing away another 5 more, Kabir finally snapped.

"Aap ka problem kya hai?!" (What's your problem?!) Kabir roared.

"Mere samne pee rahe ho?" (You're drinking in front of me?) Raina retorted. "Sharam nahi aati?" (Have you no shame?)

Kabir pulled his hair in frustration.

"Get out!" Kabir shouted. Nothing was worth this! "I don't need your help!"

"Fine," she said as she picked up her things and left. "Jaa rahi hoon!" (I'm leaving!)

Just by the kitchen, Sunny facepalms himself as Ayesha shook her head in annoyance.

Oh, Kabir...

A/N: Oh Kabir, tune kya kiya??? (What did you do?) Haha... So what do you think of this chapter??? I did mention in the book intro that sparks of all kinds ensured when they first meet... So, did the "sparks of all kind" meet your expectations??? Too much sparks??? Not enough sparks??? Let me know in the comments. See you next week... (On time, hopefully)

P.s., did anyone watch the "watch with your family" promo for Jagga Jasoos??? I squealed so loud for this part that my mom came into my room wondering what was going on... XD
