Where do we go from here?- Daryl

Your Pov:
We stand looking over the open landscape around us. The dead were really dead..for good. Though no cure could be found a "pesticide " of sorts was created a scientist who never gave up created to eliminate the already dead and clear the virus from those who are alive. He landed in the helicopter which he used to to clear the land.

He looked around with a crazy grin on his face. "It worked!!!!hahahahaha!!! It worked!!!!!" He ran around. Screaming and cheering but the rest of us just looked at each other.
We all shared the same thoughts.

Does this truly mean freedom?
No more sleeping with one eye open and a pistol beneath the pillow?
Is this hell actually over?
If so....

"So if the dead actually stay dead as you promised and the virus is not in our bodies anymore what do we do now?" Rick asked.

The crazed scientist lost the crazy glint in his eyes. "I didn't think that far ahead but we can firgue it out!!!!"

"This is only one step...it was a big one yes but it was a small needed movement in a bigger picture." I whisper to Rick.

"You're right, This is only a small step in a bigger picture...The dead don't walk but now the bigger threats are those living. When all this started it...the virus slowly started to take something away from us...our humanity. We did what we had to do to survive...but now the survivalist era is coming to an end...We have to try get that back."

"But how? Do we go back after evything we've done?" Tara asked.

"It's not gonna be easy but we try...mistakes will be made, more people may even be lost, but we need to get back to civilization...life before this."

We all looked at each other. I know we probably we all thought it for a very split second but quickly dismissed it as a possibility. But hearing it out loud.....Is it achievable at this point?
Some groups have gone above and beyond and lost themselves long ago. How could we convince other groups to work with each other? How will we build from the ground up?

I felt a pair of eyes on me but I didn't care to look around. My mind was trained in Rick words.

We all returned to Alexandria it was the weirdest feeling looking around without a walker lunging themselves at you but instead all of them were already dead. Once we were back we all returned to our homes mine was shared with Daryl Dixon who is somewhat of a unspoken guardian angel. If we were out of the walls he had my back. If anything ever went down in the walls he was there to save the day. We don't talk to each other much except when we need to. There were the small conversations where we would crack a joke or two or have a regular conversation. I didn't understand what terms we were on but were far more than acquaintances. Friends is close to what we have and as close as I'll get.

I sit near the fireplace it wasn't lit. But I imagined it was and I suddenly found myself trying to remember what Christmas felt like. What it looked like. It was hard to imagine after all this time.
I felt Daryl sit down on the other side of the couch.

"Though I said it...it's hard to see a life past this." I said bringing my knees up to my chest. "Alexandria was as close to that as we've gotten to civilization now...I don't see where we go past this. Even if it's been talked about. What if..all of it was over. But now it's all over and I can't seem to see where we go from here."

Daryl bit down on his thumb nail. "Can't say where we going from here...But I know where I'm going..." He muttered.

I looked over to him. "You're gonna leave us?" I asked sadly.

He got close to me and cupped my cheek bringing me into a sudden kiss. I was shocked at first but quickly melted into the kiss. Once he pulled away I seen his face go red but hell mine did too!

"I-I uuhm we- What I- Um I like you too!" I said out loud.

He gave me his infamous side smirk and I felt my face heat up three time worse than before.

I sat in his lap and kissed him again.

A year later...

It was achievable we somewhat got back to what we had before. Minus all the extreme technology that is. While construction workers are working back on getting superstores in order and factory workers are getting the factories together again ewe resorts to marketplaces like flea markets and trading has become a good currency.  We are slowly getting the world back together again.
Daryl works a mechanic in a motorcycle shop.
I work at the flea market selling pots and pans. Though it sound like something you can't take seriously after what we we've been through. Proper cookware is longed for.

"Your shift is up girly." My boss says.

I smiled and went around the table.
I looked around for Daryl's bike.

"You and that Dixon boy huh?" She asked.

I nodded. "You do realize your group is somewhat of a legend now, right?"

I nodded. "Out of all the things you could done ya'll chose to work with the small folk. Why?"

"Because when he asked me where do we go from here?"I started.

"She asked for a simpler life." A gruff voice finished. I turned around to see Daryl behind me.

"And that's what I got." I said smiling.

"Now if you'll excuse us-" Daryl picked me up and thrown me over his shoulder and I giggle. "We got some things to do from here." He said carrying me to his bike. Once he sat me on his bike I looked up to him.

"Mr.Dixon tell me what exactly it is we do from here?" I asked flirtatiously.

He got on in front of me.
"I suggest you hold on tight, wait till we get home to find out." He gruffed.

I giggled and held on as we drove I looked out in the world. Remembering what it used to be and what it is now. We both still have nightmares but we help each other through them.
But what seemed like an endless hell a year ago has ended and the world has a lot of rebuilding to do. As for me and Daryl I think no matter how much the world continues to rebuild we'll still remain the same happy and looking forward for what the future has in store for us.
