It's gonna take some getting used to- Dean

Third person perspective:

They had finally managed to escape all the hell.  No more exhausting road trips. No more sleeping on uncomfortable mattresses of roach infested 3-star motels. Despite Dean's disbelief, it was all real and he wasn't in heaven. He never died. The life didn't consume them and spit them out. The hunting life didn't kill him. He could finally sleep peacefully. But that didn't mean he'd stop sleeping with one eye open and a gun under his pillow. Though his girlfriend of 10 years had been telling him for the past three months that he needed to put it away and that they didn't need to put Devil's trap under the welcome mat when they first moved into the new house. Also that he didn't need to put sigils underneath the wallpaper of the rooms. But he did it anyway.Dean argued that he didn't want to take the chance. (Y/n) didn't argue with him either in fact despite the fact that she was 100% convinced that they were done with that life. She helped him willingly without question or argument. Which confused Dean usually if (Y/n) believed something she'd fight with him about it until he gave in but she just went with it. He didn't question it. There are some nights when Dean would wake up in the middle of the night and get on his laptop or. When his worried girlfriend questioned his reasonings. He replied that he rather had a bad dream or he had a feeling something wasn't right so he was searching newspapers and such for cases. Although she was tired she'd grab her laptop from the room and join him on the couch. She'd help search for cases for the first half but ended up on youtube watching funny cat videos. Dean would eventually call it quits by then and join her video watching before they both decide to go back to bed. Sometimes he would call Sam in the middle of the night because he had a nightmare that he had died. Sam would question his sanity for contacting him at such an ungodly hour but understood why he did so he didn't give him grief for it. It had been a peaceful night. All was quiet of course. (Y/n) was wrapped protectively in Dean's grasp as they slept.  For once Dean was having a good dream.

It was a typical night for the couple. Frozen dinner meals in front of the TV watching Sons of Anarchy. Dean was finally working up the courage to make her his wife. He had no idea how was gonna pull it off. When to do it. How to say it.  He was nervous she'd say no. When he met her he told her that he wasn't 'the commitment type.' though it was far from true. He just didn't want her to get her hopes up with marriage and a happily ever after.Especially the way they were living. But now that he got the happy ending that he wasn't expecting. He's looking into marriage and is not sure if she is down for it. She's been stuck as a girlfriend for so long. He is so lost in his thoughts that he was startled by the knock on the door. Dean looked at the time.

'10:37' pm

"It's almost 11 o'clock, who could be here at this hour?" (Y/n) questioned.

Dean rolled his eyes in annoyance, of course, the moment he's about to do something serious!

"I don't know but I'll check it out," Dean said going to the door. He opened the door and no one was there. He then cautiously peeked his head out of the door his backhand searching for the anti-demon blade that he swore he stashed on his belt loop. But it was suddenly gone. Before he could question it he heard a scream that made his heart drop.

"(Y/n)!!!" He yelled storming for the living room to see Asmadeus dropping the body of his now dead girlfriend.

Dean shot up from his heart-troubling slumber in a cold sweat with his gun in his hand.

"Dean!" (Y/n) called.

Dean quickly looked at his girlfriend who had worried written in her tired eyes. He was so relieved it was all just another dream but this one was the worst one he's had by far. He'd never had a dream about losing her.

"You're ok." He said suddenly latching onto her.

She wrapped her arms around him. "Of course I am Dean."

"You died. He got you." Dean whispered.

"He can't get me, he won't he's gone forever." (Y/n) said in a sleepy voice.

Dean let go of her immediately and stormed to the front door with a gun in hand. (Y/n) following behind him in tired bewilderment.

Dean pulled the door open pointing his gun at anything that may make itself present. What he thought may have been the 4th prince of hell that haunted his dreams or a demon that managed to escape the closed gates of hell. was really nothing but air.  (y/n) closed the door.

"Dean nothing is out there anymore." She said calmly.

"I'm scared," Dean admitted and that was the first time the woman had ever heard her boyfriend admit openly that he a carrier of fear. "Of letting my guard down thinking we can live a happy life and everything being taken away the minute I think everything is fine."

"Come to bed Dean we don't have to sleep just come to bed." She grabbed his hand and lead them to their bedroom.

Dean willingly followed her. (Y/n) laid down and Dean rested his head on her chest listening to her heartbeat and the air the entered and exited her body letting him know she was alive she was real. She was here. She was safe. He still couldn't understand why she stuck around. Why she put up with him.

"How do you put up with me?" Dean questioned.

"Hm?" His girlfriend hummed tiredly.

"How do you put up with me? I wake you up almost everynight over a nightmare and keel you up for almost two hours. You clearly believe that there's nothing evil left out there. You would have been arguing by now but you haven't. Why?"

"Because Dean...you have every right to be paranoid. You've been used to protecting since you were young. You've always been the one protecting Sam and I. It's become a part of who you are. When things get quiet you're used to an alarm going off in your head telling you something isn't right. That alarm has got us out of trouble plenty of times." (Y/n) admits. "You're not 100% used to a normal life. You haven't got a while. I knew the moment those gates we're shut the transition wasn't gonna be easy on you. It's gonna take some getting used to." She said before kissing his forehead.

"...You're right... It's gonna take a hell of a lot of betting used to." Dean muttered.

"So if need be I could go through a100 more nights like these with you." She says with a sleepy smile. "It's OK to be afraid...change is scary."

Dean stayed quiet and slowly dosed off to her lulling heartbeat. His last thought being...

Tomorrow

The next morning (Y/n) woke up with her boyfriend not at her side. Normally a some an alarming sight. Until she smelled food. She followed the alluring aroma into the kitchen to see Dean at the stove. She smiled and made her wat over. She wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her head against his back.

"Morning beautiful," He said turning off the stove before turning around and giving her a kiss.

"What time is it?" She mumbled.

Dean quickly looked at the clock on the stove. "It is 1:36," Dean states

"Breakfast this late?" (Y/n) furrowed her eyebrows and smirked a little bit. "Breakfast this late?" She questioned with a smile.

"Would have gotten up earlier but-"

"I know," She sighed remembering the night before. She's happy he had gotten to bed earlier than normal. Usually he wouldn't fall asleep until later and she would be the one to cook breakfast.

"So what's the occasion?"

Dream chuckled and shook his head surprised thtat she hasn't noticed yet. But he kept himself calm and collected though his nerves were running wild.

"Just wanted to switch it up a bit." He said as he poured the eggs onto the plates and bringing them to the table.

(Y/n) examined the plate happily. Eggs,Bacon and Pancakes.

"So you start your new job tomorrow. How does it feel?" (Y/n) joked.

"Not a bad gig really. I'm just glad I have a job."

"You know I still think you should open your own shop. You're really good with baby. Or maybe do motor mechanic? Get a van fix it up real nice and you can help people fix their car. Except you come to them?" (Y/n) suggested. "I think pole would appreciate your services." She says smiling as she eats.

Dean could no longer keep his cool. "How have you not noticed?" He chuckled as he shakes his head

"Not noticed what?" (Y/n) questioned.

Dean put his fork down and grabbed (Y/n)'s left hand that was garnished with a beautiful diamond ring.

"Oh my chuck!" (Y/n) exclaimed. Dean looked at her with a wordless plea. "Yes!' She said as she hugged and kissed him.

Dean chuckled. "I thought that would have been the first thing you'd notice this morning." Dean said.

"I didn't I just came downstairs when I noticed you were gone." She said smiling. Dean laughed again and kissed her as he held onto her tightly.

Being normal something Dean Winchester was not used to. And again it wasn't that something he would have to get used to but at least you would have his future wife to make things easier and help him through it.
