Don't say a word...- Daryl
Your pov:
Daryl and I have been together for so long. We have what I call a wordless love and It's not as bad as it sounds. I love it. We know each other inside and out. We don't need to speak or use body language to understand each other. All it takes is one look and we know what the other is feeling or thinking or sometimes we don't have to look at each other we just know. It's nothing supernatural or so I believe it just how we function and it works well for the best of us since we both suck ass at expressing ourselves. For us emotions are complicated and we both agreed that relationships can be quite complicated as well. But when all it takes is a look to know. Everything comes easier. He may remained stone-faced with the world. But I can see past his mask. I can see when he's hurting..when he us scared of something but won't show it and the same for me. I am the quiet one of the group. I don't speak and I don't show any real emotion but Daryl can read me like a book. Without a word he knows. He knows what's going on in my head and in my heart.
Daryl knew me better than my own brother and I knew Daryl better than Rick. Or better than he thinks.
So when Daryl and my brother Eli were heading out with Aaron. He knew I was seriously nervous but I refused to show it.
"We'll back back in two days." He told me as he ran his calloused hand through my hair to soothe me.
I sighed and he kissed my forehead. "Try not to worry yourself to death woman. Wanna come back with somethin' ta look forward ta."
I giggled quietly. Daryl gave me a quick kiss on the lips. Kisses never failed to put a smile on our faces. Even if they only lasted 5 seconds sometimes it was more than enough.
"C'mon now you can't give your boyfriend all the love! Your brother is going out there too!" Eli said standing in the doorway of Daryl and I's room. Getting Daryl to agree to let my bother stay in the same house as us was a bit hard but I eventually pulled it off.
I smiled at my brother as I went to give him a hug. He squeezed me tightly.
"Come back in one piece you two." I tell them.
"A whole cake not a piece missing." Eli promised before kissing my forehead.
"Love you brother."
"Same here sister."
"C'mon now ain't got time to waste" Daryl said as he waited at the front door for my brother. Who smiled and let me go.
I looked at Daryl.
'Keep my brother safe.'
Daryl nodded at me in assurance that my message came across loud and clear.
I watched as the two most most important people of my life walked out of the door.
Though I worry about Daryl. I know he'll come back. He always does. But it's my brother who will be the death of me with his reckless decisions. Especially after our Parents died. He lost hisself. Drinking Every Night, Going out of the gates everyday and coming back in cover in walker blood. But recently he's kind of gotten better.
Not being able to rest the past two days I stood watch and waited for Daryl and Eli.
"They'll be back (Y/n). Go rest up." Rick told me.
I nodded and got down from the "watch tower". Though I didn't want to. The minute I got to the front door. I heard yelling.
They're home
I take quick strides to the gate. Seeing Daryl, Aaron and a newcomer. I was waiting for Eli to pop out at me as he always did.
"Where's Eli?" I asked.
I looked at Daryl.
He looked at me with an apology written in his eyes.
"I'm sorry (Y/n) we found ourselves in a tight spot and he...he gave his life for us to get out." Aaron said apologetically.
"Oh...He's always....wanted to....die...a hero. He...got his...wish...I guess...I'm gonna go home now."
I walked home as fast as I could. I knew Daryl would follow me. Once we got inside I turned around. Words tried to form but nothing came from my mouth.
"He-"
"Shhhh..." Daryl hugged me tightly and I cried into his chest.
He ran his hands through my hair as I cried.
Not too long after he picked me up and carried me to our room. I sat in his lap and cry.
He continued to run his hands through my hair calming me down a bit more.
"He told me to tell you that he loved you." Daryl finally said after I calmed down. "Thought he didn't say it enough."
I buried my face in his neck and inhaled his rustic scent to keep myself from crying again. I hated crying and for some reason his scent was very calming to me. He was my peace of mind in dark times such as these.
"Gave me somethin' and made me promise to do somethin'." He went into his pocket and pulled out my mother's
engagement ring that was connected to a chain.
I was at a loss for words. My heart was not only filled with mourning but now a bit of happiness. Eli always wore that chain around his neck. But I never seen the ring on it. Maybe because it was always tucked in his shirt. But Daryl took it off the chain and held it between his thumb and pointer finger. I was confused at first but once I looked into his eyes and I realized what he was doing.
In his own way he was proposing.
I couldn't help it. I started crying again. Tears of mourning and rejoice combined. Daryl caressed my cheek and kissed my forehead. I kissed him passionately on the lips.
After we pulled away he placed the ring on my finger.
I buried my face into his neck leaving small pecks here and there every once in a while as he ran his hair through my locks.
Any other girl would have complained about his method of proposing. He wasn't in a tux, didn't have people to witness it. It wasn't fancy and he didn't give a heart wrenching speech. He didn't even ask the question physically. But when I looked into his mesmerizing orbs. They said it all, everything I needed to know was there in his eyes. His
'I love you'
His heartwrenching speech.
His 'will you marry me?'
was loud and clear. This wordless proposal was perfect in my eyes.It was the best proposal ever in my eyes. I wouldn't have it any other way.
