Do you see that girl with black hair and dark green eyes across the room on a throne? That is Cassandra Wayne, or Princess Cassandra (Cass for short but never used.) See the woman beside her, with black hair and green eyes, on a slightly taller throne? That's Queen Selina. Wife of the man beside her, he has brown eyes and black hair, in a much taller throne, King Bruce.

Oh? You don't know where you are? Well of course not! You have only been in the kingdom of Gotham for a day! You have just came here yesterday at dawn with your mother, father and brother to become merchants. However we are getting off topic, you are not our main character! Princess Cassandra is. She looks over at her lady's in waiting, Barbara Gordon and Stephanie Brown, and whispers to her mother if she could go over to them.

"Go, we'll be fine without you, Cassandra." Queen Selina says squeezing her daughter's hand and smiles.

"Why yes of course. It would be lovely to go to the ball with you."

"Wonderful. I shall see you then, Miss Brown." Prince Timothy Wayne replies kissing the lady in waitings hand. She blushes.

"Likewise." Before you ask yes, Prince Timothy is one of Princess Cassandra's brothers. Her other brother, Richard Wayne, was talking to the richest merchants in the kingdom of Gotham at the moment.

"I'm sorry to interrupt, but do you mind if I speak with Stephanie?"

"Of course not Cass. I was just leaving."

"Are you sure I didn't interrupt anything?" Princess Cassandra asks.

"I am very sorry, Princess Cassandra." Stephanie Brown says bowing sadly.

"I do not mind Stephanie," she replies holding her hand, "just don't let my father see you. You know how he can get." Princess Cassandra says looking at her brother as he nods.

"I'll be mingling if you need me. I shall see you again, Miss Brown." Prince Timothy says kissing her hand again and leaving the ladies to talk.

"You love him don't you?"

"Hmm? Oh no."

"Don't deny it Stephanie. You love my brother. If you didn't, you wouldn't have blushed when he asked you to the ball. Or is it because how charming he is?" Stephanie blushes at Princess Cassandra's words.

"I'm not at liberty to say miss." Princess Cassandra says goodbye to Stephanie and goes over to her other lady in waiting, Barbara Gordon.

"Oh! Good evening, Princess Cassandra." Barbara says bowing.

"Good evening, Barbara. How are you?"

"Quite well miss." Barbara replies beaming.

Oh! What's this! It looks like Barbara Gordon has caught Prince Richard Wayne's eye. Everyone wonders if it will actually happen or maybe it's just a flin-

"Good evening, ladies. Mind if I borrow Barbara for a minute?" Prince Richard asks, glancing at his sister.

"No, I do not mind at all." Princess Cassandra replies. He holds out his hand for Barbara and Princess Cassandra smirks.

"Thank you, Prince Richard. You are quite kind." Barbara says bowing and taking his hand as they go out to the garden. Princess Cassandra sighs and goes to sit down.

A man across the ball room comes over to Princess Cassandra.

"Would you like to dance, Princess?" Princess Cassandra looks up at a boy her age, 17, holding out his hand. He has black hair with a white streak in it. She is mesmerized by his blue eyes and handsome face.

"I would love to, sir." Princess Cassandra says standing up.

"Please just call me Jason."

"All right then Jason." Princess Cassandra replies chuckling.

You see those two ladies near the red satin curtains leading to the actual castle looking very nervous? Those are the baronesses, Helena and Kate. They quickly rush over to Princess Cassandra.

"What are you doing?" Baroness Kate says in a judge mental tone.

"What? I don't understand?"

"Just come with us!" Baroness Helena adds as they whisk her away.

"You can't talk to that boy!!" Baroness Kate explains.

"Why ever not?"

"You just.. can't!" Baroness Helena replies and Princess Cassandra leaves the two baronesses.

"What's the harm with her dancing with a man from a rival kingdom?" Prince Richard asks coming over with Prince Timothy. Baroness Helena blinks at them in shock.

"T-they are a kingdom of thieves and liars! A-and they-"

"Well why am I not surprised? Considering you two are going to the ball with two peasant girls!" Baroness Kate shouts leaving in a huff as both princes glares at her. Baroness Helena leaves as well, but with sympathy.

"I'm sorry, Jason. But I can't dance with you. I- um, have to go to an urgent talk with my mother." Princess Cassandra says bowing.

"I hope to see you again very soon." Jason says kissing her before walking out of the castle as she blushes. She then realizes something and runs after him.

"Wait!" Jason turns.

"D-do you think I could write a letter to you?"

"How about this. I don't have any paper, so I shall write you a letter." Princess Cassandra smiles as the boy leaves on a black horse. She goes back inside.

"Oh how are you dear?"

"Perfectly well mother. Where is father?"

"Lecturing your brothers."

"How did he know that they asked my ladies in waiting to the ball?"

"Dear, he's your father, he knows everything." Princess Cassandra nods.

"I think I'm going to check on Damian. How has he been doing?"

"Fine." Princess Cassandra goes up to her brother's, Prince Damian, bedroom.

"Hello Doctor Leslie. How is my brother?"

"He is doing alright. I'm sure his sickness will go away soon."

"Can I see him?"

"Still not yet. I'm sorry. I know you haven't been able to see him in a few weeks since his illness, but it is quite contagious."

"Right thank you anyway. Oh! And if my mother comes in her looking for me, tell her I have retired to my bed."

"Oh course, Princess Cassandra."

"Oh look who's back!!!" A voice shouts gleefully at Jason. There are people who look like zombies and insanity, but this is home. The kingdom of Jesters.

"How was the ball? Did you woo her yet?"

"It was fine and not yet, but I will soon King Joker."

Author's Notes

Future author here: I changed Cass and Jason's ages. They were originally 25, I changed them to be 17 (also, I was naive back about Romeo and Juliet, I read it as a freshman, and oh my gosh, it's insane-) when I first wrote this story, so just know that unlike the original Romeo and Juliet there will be no teen deaths at the end... and obviously the main characters ages are not the same-)
