Ch82 Closing in on the Cat P1: Adrien's Day

[Adrien's POV]

It's Saturday morning and I'm curled up in bed with my little love bug. She's so warm and precious, cuddled up against my chest. Lying here with her, it feels as though nothing else matters. The world around us doesn't exist. There is no mystery to be solved, no pressure or responsibility, only Marinette.

"I love you so much..." I whisper as I stroke her hair.

"I love you too," Marinette says softly.

But this moment of bliss can't last forever. I can tell Marinette is worried for Alya. That's why I came to visit her so early this morning, because we have so much to get done today. Ladybug is going to visit the Mayor to organise protection for Alya and her family, while I have to take care of patrol as Cat Noir.

"I wish we could stay in bed all day...but it's probably time to get going, isn't it?" I say glumly.

Marinette nods and sits up. She strokes my cheek gently before leaning in to give me a sweet kiss. My heart flutters as her lips meet mine. I love this girl so much, my beautiful princess.

"I need to take a shower and have breakfast first but I'll see you out." Marinette says.

"Plagg where are you? Time to get up." I call out.

"Don't drag me here so early in the morning!" Plagg whines. "I need my cat nap—"

"Claws out." I order.

"Noooooo.....!" Plagg groans as he gets sucked into my ring.

Marinette squints to shield her eyes from the green light shining from my body. Once my transformation is complete I open up Marinette's balcony hatchet and climb through. Marinette follows me out to say goodbye.

"Be safe, kitten." Marinette says.

"I will," I reply.

I lay a gentle hand on Marinette's neck and bring our lips together once more. I don't want to leave. I want to stay here and shower Marinette with kisses all day. But, duty calls.

I sigh as I pull away. "See you, princess."

I leap off Marinette's balcony and make my way through the city, keeping my eye out for any trouble but also looking for any of my teammates. I know it's a weekend but then shouldn't everyone have more spare time? Where are they...?

My eye is suddenly caught by a piece of paper drifting through the wind. A picture of a blonde girl dressed in feathers of blue and green.

"Mom...?" I breathe, my eyes widening.

I leap down onto the sidewalk and snatch up the picture. Turns out it's a drawing, a really beautiful one, and once I see it up close I realise the blonde girl isn't my mom at all.

"Sorry, that's mine!" Someone says before plucking the paper from my hands.

I turn to see Nathaniel and Queen Bee holding a bunch of stray papers looking puffed. Was Nathaniel the one that drew that?

"Hey, where did you get the inspiration for that drawing?" I ask eagerly.

Nathaniel looks down at the drawing in his hands. "Oh, this one? It's inspired by one of my greatest idols, though I wouldn't be surprised if you hadn't heard of her. Technology wasn't as big as it is in our generation, plus, she tended to avoid paparazzi. Her name is Le Paon."

"The Peacock?" I say quietly as I stare at the drawing. "What can you tell me about her?"

"Well, she was a mystery, but an amazing one. She's described as angelic—gorgeous and graceful, compassionate and kind. She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She just had a way with the people. No matter what cold-hearted villain she faced, she always managed to inspire the good in their hearts. She could talk anyone out of anything—from robbers to suicide bombers. That's why I'm such a fan of her, she didn't need violence or force or even superpowers, no offense to you heroes. She sorted things out the humane way by talking things through. The police were always baffled how she managed to change the minds of the toughest criminals but her fans say it's impossible not to fall in love with her charm. She was a beautiful soul that inspired people, as simple as that. And she inspires me too. She inspires me to be kind to everyone no matter what, and it doesn't matter who they are, people can change." Nathaniel explains. "Although, more people thought she was strange, some random girl leaping into danger dressed as a peacock, but that's just how selfless she was."

I guess no one had heard of miraculouses back then so no one knows she actually was a superhero. But that's what I don't understand, why didn't she ever use force? I mean, it's great to hear about what an amazing person my mom was, but it has me wondering what the powers of the peacock are...

"If you want to know more about her, I first heard of her from some website. I think it was called The Bird Blog." Nathaniel continues. "They described her beautifully, an angelic maiden with long, golden hair dressed in flowing feathers that resemble a tropical ocean. When I read that, I just felt the need to draw her."

"It is some beautiful art." I say with a smile.

Queen Bee seems to be calculating something in her head. "Wait, Chat, didn't you tell us about a peacock mir—"

"Yes I did!" I cut in quickly. "I told you about the legend of the peacock. Truth is, Nathaniel, I had heard of her but I didn't know much. You've been a great help. What a wonder! Truly inspiring for someone completely normal without any powers to be such a hero."

Queen Bee looks puzzled. I don't want anyone to know about the peacock miraculous just yet though—I don't even know anything about it myself. Plus, I like the legacy Nathaniel has given my mother. I hope Queen Bee got the message and keeps her trap shut.

Queen Bee peers over Nathaniel's shoulder to get a look at the drawing, her face immediately reddening. I feel a smirk tug on my lips. This should keep her distracted for now.

"Well, have fun you two." I say with a cheeky wink. "I best be off."

I whistle casually as I stroll away through the city, eventually coming to a stop at the park. I slump down onto a park bench and bring out my staff, which I can use to search the web.

"The Bird Blog..." I mumble as I scroll through the website Nathaniel had recommended.

My thumb comes to a stop at a blurry picture of a blonde girl dressed in feathers. It's not the best quality, you can barely see her, but somehow it's still breathtaking.

"Mom..." I whisper softly.

Warmth rises in my chest. I don't know how long I spent reading that blog, staring at that picture, and then re-reading the blog again. Dad always found it too hard to talk about mom, so it's wonderful to get to hear all about her. My mom really was an amazing person...I wish I could have spent more time with her. It's no wonder my dad fell for her. Though, admittedly, I wonder what she saw in him. Maybe my dad was different back then when he was young and spirited. I suppose I can understand. Sometimes I wonder why such an amazing girl like Marinette would ever want to date me. She's too good for anyone in my opinion. I wonder if dad knows anything about the powers of the peacock miraculous...Maybe I should talk to him.

I put my staff away and stand up, only to bump into someone.

"Oops, sorry." I apologise.

The girl I had bumped into has short, blonde hair and big brown eyes. She seems familiar, actually...

"H-Hi, Cat Noir!" She says with a giggle. "S-Sorry for bumping into you, I-I came too close."

"Er, right, no problem." I reply awkwardly.

"Um, so, my name's Penny." She says as she twirls her hair. "I-I've admired you for quite some time now..."

Oh, right, I know her. I see her literally everywhere. My biggest fan, probably.

Ladybug suddenly jumps down beside me, followed by Carapace.

"Excuse me, is there a problem?" She asks as she rests an arm on my shoulder.

"No at all, bugaboo." I answer with a smile. "Could it be that my lady is jealous?"

"In your dreams, kitty." Ladybug says smugly.

She totally is, how adorable.

"U-Um!" Penny speaks up, turning my attention back to her. "I was wondering if you...do you...W-Would you like to go out some time?"

"Oh," I double-blink in surprise. "Well, actually, I'm terribly sorry but my heart is already taken."

Penny's eyes well up with tears but she still smiles through them. "Th-That's okay, I can wait..." She says before turning to leave.

I watch her walk away in confusion. Wait?

"Hmm, what a devoted admirer." Ladybug says, pursing her lips.

I snake my arm around Ladybug's waist and pull her close to me. "Well, it's a shame she'll have to wait forever because I'm never leaving you, bugaboo."

Ladybug blushes. I smirk and press my lips against hers. We share a tender kiss before I pull away slowly.

"I need to head home but you should come by later." I whisper to Ladybug.

Ladybug smiles. "Okay."

I look past Ladybug to say goodbye to Carapace but he isn't there anymore. Probably went ahead on patrol. I shrug and give Ladybug a wave before lifting myself up using my staff. I leap from rooftop to rooftop until jumping in through my bedroom window.

"Plagg, claws in." I command.

Plagg wisps out from inside my ring and yawns.

"Can I sleep now?" He yaps.

"Sure little buddy, I'm going to go find my dad." I say.

First I look in Dad's office only to find it empty. I search the whole house before coming to the living room but he is nowhere to be found.

"Hmm, I wonder..." I mumble as I sneak into the next room.

I look up at the large portrait of mom. She really is beautiful. My dad had once hidden the book of miraculouses behind this painting, maybe there is something about mom's past in there too.

"Adrien?"

I jump in fright and spin round to face Nathalie.

"What are you doing?" She asks.

"Just—Just admiring mom..." I answer. "Have you seen Dad? I was wondering if he could tell me more about her."

"He's at a conference, but you should know by now that your father isn't exactly comfortable discussing Mrs Agreste." Nathalie says. "It's best if you stay out of this room."

"Right." I reply.

I quickly pace away and shut myself in my room before turning on my computer. I want to show Marinette The Bird Blog. Just as I am about to sit down, I hear a strange noise from inside my closet.

"Plagg?" I say as I look around.

But I see Plagg asleep and drooling on my bedsheets. I frown and turn my attention back to my closet.

"Is someone here?" I ask, my heartbeat picking up.

Why am I in superhero mode right now? This is my house. I am safely inside my own bedroom where there are no monsters living in the closet! Something probably just fell over inside, but still my heart pounds with anticipation as I approach my closet door. I reach out my hand slowly and grip the handle before yanking the door open.

"AHH!"
