Chapter 2
Katherine and Golden spent their evening hours and weekend studying for the exams. It was finally Monday. Goldman's parent has come to drop her off. As soon as they packed, Golden tried getting out of the car but it was locked. She turned to look at her mom and dad at the front sit but only to meet a disapproval and disappointed gaze.
"What is it this time? What? Why am I getting this look? And today of all days. I don't need any drama." Golden lamented.
"Exactly. Neither do we like the drama. Look honey we don't know what you've been doing but you're definitely not doing what we sent you here to do." The mom replied.
"You better start picking up now before it's too late. I feel like I'm just throwing money into the bush with your education." Her dad said with a scornful look.
"I'm trying my best okay. I don't know what else you want from me?" Golden lashed out but with a sad tone.
"You're not trying hard enough. Look at Katy. What's the difference between you two. Same age, you both got one head, we give you more allowance than her parents give to her, just mention what that girl has that you lack, and still look at her grades. She's an A+ student. All you do is spend time on socials and shopping..." Golden's dad interrupted the mother by patting her shoulder in attempt to calm her down.
"Look at her. She hasn't got two heads. Yet you follow her around and you never learn anything." Her dad added as he saw Katherine walking down from a car with her parents. Golden was deeply hurt by her parents words and comparison with her friend. She stared through the glass and saw Katherine smiling from ear to ear and how her parents treated her.
"You know what? You're right! Katy hasn't got two heads, but at least she hasn't got unloving and unsupportive parents like mine." Golden harshly replied her parents. But her tone and expression seemed very sad and hurt. She forcefully tried to open the door but it was still locked. She sighed in annoyance and still held unto the door handle until they unlocked the door.
Golden with annoyance tried to avoid walking into Katy. She didn't want her to notice she was upset.
"Golden. Hey. What's the rush." Katherine called out to Golden as she saw her rushing into the school. Golden had no choice but to respond. She slowly turned around and managed to fake a smile.
"Hi bestie." She hugged Katy.
"Good morning Mr and Mrs George." She turned to katy's patents and greeted.
" Good morning sweetheart. How are you?" Katharine mom responded. Golden replied her with a nod.
"Alright then. We'll leave you two to it. Goodbye hun." Mr and Mrs George hugged their daughter and gave her a peck on the forehead before leaving.
" Your parents are so nice. " Golden complimented with a serious tone as she stared at them till they drove off.
"Common. We're going to be late. I believe you're ready for this. And we're going to crush this exam." Katherine encouraged Golden. Golden felt a bit motivated and managed a smile.
"Fire in the hole!!!" Fred, a nerd who skated passed the hallway with attempt to land in a barrel. Instead, he hit the barrel first and the barrel landed on him. His attempt to pull off a stunt and look cool failed and he was humored instead.
"What a weirdo." Golden commented as she and Katherine walked pass Fred. Katy stopped to help Fred when she saw he was getting bullied mercilessly. Students were laughing and throwing stuff at him.
"That's enough." Katy scolded the bullies as she stood in front of Fred as a shield. She offered him a hand and took him out to wash up.
As Katy was busying rescuing Fred, Golden saw the literature teacher headed towards her office with some notes. An idea came to her, and a solution to her problem was right in front of her.
"Ahhhh! Stop it! Let go of me!" Golden shouted in front of her office. She managed to get the teachers attention as she came outside to see what happened. She saw Golden trembling in fear.
"What happened? Who was that?" The teacher asked with concern.
"You have to get him for this. He ran that way!" Golden pointed at a direction which the teacher hastily rushed to find who had attacked her. Golden used the opportunity to get what she needed.
" There wasn't anyone there. Can you describe him or what's his name?" The teacher questioned.
"And how do you expect me to know that. I'm not a detective. Urgh... I wonder what you guys get paid for when you can't even protect a student." Golden replied rudely and walked away.
The teacher couldn't make sense out of what just happened. She decided to let it slide and return to her work.
A few days later, results came out and for the record breaker, Golden came out on top in class. Although Katherine was happy for her, she felt suspicious and bad because it took her to second best in class. Their were murmuring, chattering and disbelieve among the students.
Moments later, an announcement came from the principles office for the students in katys class to assemble at the assembly hall. The principal began with the schools legacy and drew to the case exam malpractice.
It turned out one of the teachers answer shit for the exam was stolen and they needed to know who had it. The teacher already had a hunch it was Golden. I mean the evidences were obvious. Their lockers were to be searched and anyone the evidence was found with would face the consequences.
Golden panicked. In the course of protecting herself, she framed Katherine by sneaking the answer papers in Katy locker just in time before anyone could notice.
The evidence was later found in Katy locker as it was implanted.
Katy begged she didn't do it. even though the Principal was convinced with evidence, he actually wanted to trust Katy on her word.
"Miss Katherine, do you have anything to say for yourself?" The principal questioned Katy who was deeply nervous and confused.
"I didn't do it. You have to believe me. If you want I can retake the papers. Please just give me a chance to prove myself..." Katy begged.
"Look miss Katherine, I really want to believe you. But this is just too much. Everyone was an eye witness and if I don't take the necessary actions what example do you think I'll be leading?" The principal lamented. He was as confused as Katy was. He would hit the table and scratch his head in desperation.
"And what example do you think you'd be leading with in punishing the innocent. I won't accept any punishment for now and you won't be informing my parents of this until we find out the truth." Katy said with a serious tone.
"Excuse me." She stood up abruptly and hastily walked towards the door. On opening the door was the literature teacher at the door. She looked at Katy pitifully but was too speechless to say anything to her. She tried reaching her hand on katy shoulders but Katy walked right passed her angrily. She was quite disappointed they could turn against her over just one little set up.
As they always say, A lie leads to another lie and to another until you start to believe your own lies. A mistake you don't own up to leads to another mistake and another .
As Katy was busy trying to clear her name, Golden was busy planning her next step.
