Chp 6 Moments in Time

Chapter Title: Moments in Time

The streets of Mumbai buzzed with life, the usual chaotic traffic giving way to the glowing ambience of a Friday evening. Abhishek adjusted his baseball cap and glanced at his phone. It wasn’t often that the city’s star cricketer had the luxury of slipping away unnoticed, and tonight was one of those rare moments. But his excitement wasn’t just about the secrecy—it was about who he was meeting.

Vayra.

As he stood outside the iconic PVR cinema, his heart raced slightly. It wasn’t their first date, not by far, but every time he saw her, it felt like the first all over again. There was something magnetic about her presence, the way she carried herself with effortless confidence, blending her stern ACP persona with an undeniable charm that only he got to see.

When he saw her approaching, his heart did a double take. Dressed in a casual yet stylish navy jumpsuit with her hair tied in a loose ponytail, Vayra looked every bit as commanding as she did stunning.

“You’re late,” she teased, crossing her arms as she came to a stop in front of him.

Abhishek raised his hands in mock surrender, grinning. “Traffic, madam ACP. I swear, not my fault this time.”

“Right,” she replied, though the hint of a smile tugged at her lips.

He held out a hand, a playful glint in his eyes. “Shall we?”

She hesitated for a second before slipping her hand into his. The warmth of his touch was comforting, grounding her in a way she didn’t expect.

The Movie

Inside the cinema, the cool air-conditioned atmosphere provided a stark contrast to the humid evening outside. The theatre was dimly lit, the smell of buttered popcorn wafting through the air as they made their way to their seats.

Abhishek had chosen a romantic comedy, one he’d heard good reviews about but also knew wouldn’t take itself too seriously. He figured they could use a light-hearted evening, away from the stress of their demanding careers.

As the movie began, Vayra leaned back in her seat, her initial skepticism about the film melting away as she found herself laughing at the witty banter and awkward yet endearing characters on screen. Abhishek, seated beside her, stole glances at her every now and then, his heart swelling at the sound of her laughter.

Halfway through the movie, their hands brushed on the armrest. Neither pulled away, and after a moment, Abhishek took the initiative, intertwining his fingers with hers. Vayra glanced at him, her cheeks warming under his soft smile.

“This is nice,” he whispered.

“Don’t get used to it,” she murmured, though her grip on his hand tightened slightly.

The Shopping Spree

After the movie, the pair strolled hand in hand through the nearby mall. The bustling atmosphere was a mix of weekend shoppers and couples enjoying their time together, blending seamlessly into the evening's vibe.

Vayra’s eyes sparkled as they passed a boutique showcasing a stunning maroon saree in its display.

“You like that?” Abhishek asked, noticing her lingering gaze.

“It’s beautiful,” she admitted, though she quickly added, “But I don’t need it.”

Abhishek smirked. “Who said anything about need? Wait here.”

Before she could protest, he disappeared into the store, leaving her shaking her head in amused disbelief. When he returned a few minutes later, he held a carefully wrapped box in his hands.

“Abhishek!” she exclaimed, half scolding, half touched.

“Consider it a gift for tolerating me,” he quipped, handing it to her.

She rolled her eyes but accepted the gift, her heart fluttering at the gesture.

They continued exploring the mall, pausing occasionally to browse through stores. Abhishek insisted on buying her a pair of dainty silver earrings he spotted, claiming they’d “match her personality—sharp but elegant.” Vayra, in turn, picked out a casual shirt for him, saying he needed something “less flashy and more grounded.”

Ice Cream by the Bay

After shopping, the two decided to cool off with ice cream. They made their way to a small ice cream parlor by the bay, where the gentle sound of waves added a serene backdrop to their evening.

Abhishek ordered a double scoop of chocolate chip while Vayra went for mango sorbet. They found a quiet spot to sit, the cool breeze ruffling their hair as they enjoyed their treats.

“You’ve got a little something,” Vayra said, pointing to the corner of Abhishek’s mouth where a smear of chocolate lingered.

He leaned closer, grinning. “Where? Here?”

“No, there,” she replied, leaning in instinctively to point.

In one swift move, Abhishek dabbed his finger in his ice cream and smudged it playfully on her nose.

“Abhishek!” she exclaimed, laughing despite herself.

He chuckled, holding his hands up in mock defense. “You walked into that one.”

Shaking her head, Vayra retaliated by flicking a bit of her sorbet onto his cheek. Soon, the playful exchange escalated into a full-blown ice cream battle, leaving both of them giggling like teenagers.

A Walk to Remember

As the night deepened, they decided to take a walk along the promenade. The city lights reflected on the water, creating a picturesque view that seemed almost too perfect to be real.

“I missed this,” Vayra admitted softly, her fingers intertwined with Abhishek’s.

“Missed what?” he asked, his tone equally gentle.

“Moments like this. Where life feels...simple,” she replied, glancing up at him. “I don’t get that much in my line of work.”

Abhishek squeezed her hand. “You deserve all the simplicity and happiness in the world, Vayra. And I’ll make sure you get it.”

She smiled, her heart swelling at his words.

They stopped at a small bench overlooking the water, sitting down to enjoy the view. For a moment, neither of them spoke, content to simply exist in the quiet company of each other.

The Evening’s End

By the time they decided to head back, it was well past 10 PM. Abhishek drove her home, the comfortable silence between them speaking volumes. When they reached her apartment building, he walked her to the door.

“Thank you for tonight,” Vayra said, her voice soft.

“Anytime,” Abhishek replied, his eyes locking with hers.

For a moment, neither moved. Then, in a move that felt as natural as breathing, Abhishek leaned in and kissed her. It was soft and slow, a lingering touch that sent warmth coursing through both of them.

When they pulled back, Vayra smiled. “Goodnight, Mr. Cricketer.”

“Goodnight, madam ACP,” he replied, his voice tinged with affection.

As she disappeared into the building, Abhishek couldn’t help but smile to himself. The night had been perfect, and he couldn’t wait to create more memories with her.
