LOVE SONG
CHAPTER THIRTY

                                Danielle would be straight up lying if she said Josh hadn't been on her mind almost the whole day. No matter how hard she tried to forget about the boy and enjoy her last day on set, she kept finding herself thinking about his cheesy smile or his perfect curls. It was driving her insane, especially as she couldn't just talk to him.

Cameron's words kept replaying in her mind as well. The night before, he had told her to confront Josh if he didn't talk to her first. Dani was hoping he'd make the first move, but she couldn't wait that long for him to decided he was ready. She needed to speak to him to clear her mind before they shot their final scene.

Olivia and Matt were currently shooting their last scene so it was quiet on set. Dani wandered around, looking for Josh amongst the cast and crew. She made sure to stay quiet to not disrupt the shoot in progress. Danielle almost gave up her search, but spotted Josh at the last second. He was stood against a wall in the corner of the room, his eyes fixed onto his phone screen that he held in his hand.

Dani squeezed past a few crew members, making her way towards the boy. As if he could sense her presence, Josh lifted his head to look at her. A small smile crept onto his features as he watched the girl approach him. There was no way for him to back out now. He had to finally speak to the girl he had been avoiding for the past few weeks.

Josh took a deep breath as Dani stopped in front of him. She wore a half smile as she looked at him with pleading eyes. She hoped there was a reasonable explanation for why he was acting like this, but she wasn't sure she'd ever truly know why.

"Hey, Dani." Josh said, sliding his phone into his pocket so she had his full attention. Dani didn't respond at first. What was she supposed to say? Hi? "Everything okay?" Josh asked, noticing Dani looking around uncomfortably.

"Okay?" Dani scoffed. "I don't know, is it? Why have you been avoiding me?" She asked, focusing her attention back on him.

"I- uh I-" Josh stumbled, trying to find an answer to her question. He thought about denying it, but he knew it wouldn't work. He had been avoiding her, but it wasn't for the reason she thought. The truth was, Josh really liked her. He liked her a lot more than he'd ever liked anyone before and it scared him. He didn't realise that both him and Dani had been having the same thoughts. And just like Dani, he was wondering if she felt the same or if he had gotten the wrong idea about their relationship.

There had been many moments after they shared a kiss that Josh contemplated finally asking Dani to be his girlfriend. But Josh never did. Instead, while she was away, he let his mind get the better of him and he had managed to convince himself that Dani didn't like him like that. Josh knew there was only a few weeks of filming left so his plan was to wait until after they finished filming to talk to Danielle. He didn't want to be rejected by her while they still had scenes left to film. The thought of having to film romantic scenes with the girl who broke his heart wasn't something he wanted to put himself, or Dani, through. That was the only reason he had been avoiding her. But to Dani, it was because he didn't like her anymore.

"Dani, I-" Josh began to speak but was cut off as one of the crew yelled 'cut'. Olivia and Matt had finished their scene and it was now time for Josh and Danielle to film theirs.

"Can we get Ricky and Violet by the lockers, please?" The director called out, grabbing both of their attentions. Dani sighed, turning away from Josh and walking towards the lockers where they were getting set up to film the scene. Josh followed behind her and the two got into position. Danielle looked out at the crew and noticed Arabella was stood behind the camera, watching them. She shot Dani a smile, trying to reassure her it would be fine. Dani returned it before facing Josh, ready to say the lines she had been practicing.

"Quiet on set!" A voice called out, hushing the people talking around them. It went silent before the voice spoke again. "Okay, and action."

Danielle starts to say her lines, remembering them perfectly. Josh said his, matching the same professionalism as Dani had shown. The scene was going well, both of the young talents nailing the lines, but before Josh could say his final speech, the director called out.

"Cut!" He announced, walking forward towards the two teens. "Okay we're gonna start again from the moment Violet tries to walk away." He tells them, Dani nodding at his cues. "And for your speech before the kiss Josh, have some fun with it. Don't feel like you need to stick to the script. Speak from the heart. Tell her how you feel, okay?"

Josh nods his head as the director smiles, walking away and back behind the camera to see the scene play out. Little did he know how much those words truly applied to the two teens he had spoken to.

"Take two. And... action!" The director yelled out.

"Ricky..." Danielle breathes out, starting to walk away as it said in her script. Josh reached out and placed his hand on her arm, stopping her.

"Look, I'm sorry, okay? I hurt you and I know I did. But I was scared." Josh spoke, trying to stay in character. Danielle looked back at him, noticing they definitely weren't the words she had read in the script. She had filmed many scenes with Josh as Ricky, but it felt different this time. It felt more personal. She didn't know if it was because of what was happening with them outside of the shoot or not, but his words had a different meaning to her.

"Of what?" Danielle asked, also going off script as she played along. In the moment, she had forgotten she was supposed to be playing a character. To her, this conversation was real and one she had been waiting for, for a while.

"Of this. Of us." Josh spoke. He was no longer thinking of the relationship between their characters, but the relationship between them. "I've never felt this way about anyone before and it scared me. It's a lame excuse, but it's the truth. I'm... in love with you. I've always loved you. From the moment we met, I've been crazy about you." Josh smiled, tears brimming in his eyes. These were the words he'd been dying to tell Danielle for some time now, but his emotions got the better of him.

Danielle could feel her heart beating harder as he spoke. She could tell the words he was saying were meant for her, not just their characters. She smiled back at him, her eyes also filling with tears.

"This whole time I've been trying to convince myself that you don't feel the same, but I don't care if you do or you don't. I need you to know that I love you. And I don't know what's gonna happen tomorrow or in two minutes when we walk out those doors. But what I do know is I want this feeling to keep going. Because this whole experience... I'm just not ready for it to be over. For us to be... And if it means I have to do another musical just to be with you, then fine. Sign me up." Josh said, trying to link it back to the show but still telling Dani how he feels. A smile was still on Dani's face as a few tears slipped out. "I don't want this to end. And I want a chance to prove it." Josh finished looking back at Dani. She took that as her cue to close the gap between them.

"I don't want it to end either." Dani whispered, placing her hands on either side of Josh's face. He smiled as she pulled him closer, connecting their lips in a soft kiss. The kiss continued, Josh deepening it as he lifted his hand underneath Dani's chin. They would have continued to kiss, but Dani remembered they were still on set and the cameras were still rolling. Reluctantly, Dani pulled away slowly, smiling up at Josh.

"I love you." Josh said, looking down into Dani's eyes.

Dani bit her lip before replying. "I love you, too."

"And... cut!" The director called out. Josh and Dani didn't break their gaze as the rest of the cast and the crew began applauding. They had just finished filming the last scene and everything about it was perfect. Danielle giggled as she pulled Josh back down into another soft kiss.
