*5* •Change Of Plans*
"So, I died?"
Alexis was sitting in between Moriah and Joel, asking questions about the past she never knew.
Moriah kept pulling tissues out of a Kleenex box that Luke was holding. But, it wasn't for her. It was for Alexis.
"How did I die?" Alexis sniffed and leaned on Moriah's shoulder. Moriah rubbed Alexis's shoulder. "The doctors said you had a heart problem. Your heart stopped beating, and you died in my arms." Joel, covered his face. He just couldn't remember what happened, it was heartbreaking.
"Then how did I come back?" Alexis looked into Moriah's eyes with her hazel, warm eyes. Moriah smiled, and Joel spoke softly. "It was a miracle from God." Alexis smiled through her tears, sniffing and blowing her nose softly.
Moriah gave Alexis another side hug. "Is there any more questions, sweetie?"
Alexis sniffed and wiped a tear. She shook her head and gave her real mother a little grin. "There is still so many, but I think I had enough events today." Joel smiled and kissed his daughters forehead. Alexis smiled and hugged her dad.
She felt something amazing when she was near her real parents. She felt something warm, comfortable, beautiful. She felt love, unconditional love. And she didn't want that feeling to ever leave.
After what seemed like hours, the concert had finally finished. Moriah, Joel, and Luke weren't the only performers tonight. Casting Crowns, Building 429, MercyMe, and Hillsong UNITED.
It was almost eleven at night, and the concert had finally ended. Which meant Alexis had to stay with Joel and Moriah.
Which meant, she had to leave Helen and Dylan Carter.
"Well, we must be going. Besides, tomorrow is Saturday, and I have a special meeting with James." Helen smiled and gave Alexis one last hug. She kissed her forehead. "Goodbye Lexi. I'm so glad I had the chance to raise you."
Alexis felt tears stinging her eyes. She bit her lip. "I'll miss you to." Alexis began to cry, gasping in air. Helen pulled her in a hug, a gentle one. Alexis cried into her shoulder.
Helen tried comforting her. "Don't cry, Lexi. Your finally home, sweetie. They'll take care of you." Alexis still cried silently.
She was going to leave her adoptive parents. The ones who raised her and cared for her. The ones who loved her. Helen parted, tears trailing on her face. She smiled sadly at Alexis. "Lexi, listen to me." Alexis's crying turned into sniffs. Helen sniffed as well.
"I want you to know, that no matter what happens, don't forget about me." Alexis nodded, her tears flying everywhere. She cried and hugged Helen.
"You'll always have a special place in my heart." Dylan and Helen hugged Alexis, and parted.
They walked away to the exit. They turned around and waved goodbye at Alexis. Alexis let hear tears escape her eyes, she gave a sad smile and waved good bye.
Moriah and Joel walked up next to Alexis.
She couldn't contain this hurt, and she burst into tears. Moriah and Joel hugged and kissed her, comforting her.
It worked a little, but Alexis still felt broken.
It was their last goodbyes.
----------
Joel helped Luke roll up some cables, while Moriah helped put away some mics.
Alexi sat in the front row seats of the empty arena.
The concert was over, and the bands along with some crew were packing up stuff.
Moriah Peters and For KING & COUNTRY were just special guest.
Alexis walked through the rows of chairs. She smiled as she closed her eyes and imagined herself, waking through the crowd singing and making everyone smile.
"Alexis? Alexis!" Alexis fluttered her eyes open. She turned to see Joel, her dad.
She blushed, embarrassed. Joel just smiled, "Why were you imitating a crowds' voice saying 'Lexi! Lexi! AHH! We love you!'"
Alexis stood there, thinking of what to say. She gave a nervous laugh, once again she can't lie to her parents.
"I was just imaging people here. I kinda like to sing, so I took advantage of the moment." Joel gave a quiet laugh and signalled her to follow him.
Alexis did as she was told and followed. In her mind she had wonderful conversations with her parents, but when she actually talked to them her tongue would tie.
He led her onstage, where there was still people clearing and getting ready to go. He walked over to a mic that sat on a mic stand and told Alexis to come right infront of it.
Alexis slowly went up to it. Still looking at Joel. Joel smirked, which caused Alexis to be even more confused. Joel hollered to the side of the stage.
"Lights, Luke!"
Alexis turned to see Luke grinning and pressing a button, that turned a bright spotlight that landed right on Alexis. Joel kept his smirk and pointed towards the instruments that no one has moved yet.
Alexis turned to look, to her suprise, the band was there, smiling and laughing. Alexis turned back to the mic.
She didn't know the song they were playing. She turned to Joel and mumbled.
Joel didn't understand, so he yelled over the music. "What?"
Alexis bit her lip and said it just a tiny bit louder.
Joel still couldn't make out the words. "I can't hear you!"
Alexis bit her lip and took a deep breath and said into the mic as fast as she could.
"I don't know this song!"
The band stopped playing, and everyone looked at Alexis weirdly.
The song was "No Turning Back," and everyone knew that song!
Joel walked up to Alexis.
"You don't know that song?"
Alexis sadly nodded and looked at the ground. "I never heard of 'For Country and King.'"
Joel put his hands in his pockets. He cleared his throat.
"It's 'For King and Country.'"
Alexis shrugged. "Well, now you can believe me when I tell you that I don't know your music."
Alexis looked once again at the ground, ashamed that she didn't even know one song lyric of her dad or mom.
Joel knew Alexis felt bad, so he smirked and nodded towards his band. He grabbed the mic, and Luke did too. Alexis looked up to see her Uncle and Dad singing.
She smiled, she kinda liked their music.
-----------
Taya, from Hillsong UNITED, hugged Moriah in the parking lot.
She smiled at Moriah as they parted. "It's was a blessing to preform with you, Moriah. Hopefully, if it's God's will, we will meet again."
Moriah laughed as Taya's necklace got stuck to a piece of Moriah's hair. "Maybe, just maybe."
Alexis walked out laughing with Luke and the band. Joel walked out behind them, flushed red in embarrassment. Moriah and Taya looked at each other with grins.
Moriah walked over to Alexis and Luke as the band went to talk to others.
Moriah glanced at Joel and smiled.
"What happened to Joel?"
Luke and Alexis just looked at each other once, and burst into laughter. Alexis had Moriah laugh, which made Moriah smile even bigger.
Alexis caught her breath, clutching her stomach.
"Oh... Omigosh..." She laughed. "Dad... Stage... Music..." Luke and Alexis laughed like crazy, almost falling on the ground.
Moriah knew it was useless to talk to them, so when Joel walked up beside her, she asked him.
"What happened?"
Luke and Alexis kept laughing, nonstop.
Joel just looked to his right and spoke. He was to embarrassed to look at them.
He mumbled, Moriah didn't understand. "What happened, Joel? Why are they laughing?"
Luke fell to the ground, red in laughter. That caused Alexis to laugh even harder. She was starting to turn purple.
Joel spoke a little louder. Still, Moriah couldn't understand. "Joel, please tell me."
Joel bit his bottom lip.
"Ifelloffthestageandthesehyenaslaughedanddidntevenstopsingingtohelpmetheykeptsingingandlaughing-"
Moriah put her hands up, meaning Joel to stop.
"Slower Joel!"
Alexis screamed out laughing still.
"He fell off stage in the middle of the song!"
Luke had finally got up, but when Alexis said that, he fell right back down, along with Alexis.
Moriah smiled, picturing Joel falling. She turned to Joel, who was red as strawberries in the summertime, looking to his right.
Moriah giggled and kissed his cheek. "You have to admit, that is pretty funny," Blake said, tapping on Joel's shoulder and walked away.
Joel rolled his eyes and smiled. It was kinda funny.
That all laughed, not noticing the man who started the concert and tour, Joshua Hudson.
He was an grown man, about forty years of age. He had brown hair with little streaks of white. He always wore brown leather boots and a dusty old cowboy hat.
He smiled at Joel and pulled his hat down for a second, greeting Joel.
"Evening, Joel, Luke, Moriah."
They responded in unison.
"Good evening, Mr. Hudson."
"I say, what a great performance ya'll had tonight."
They all smiled and nodded, a way of telling Mr. Hudson "thanks."
"You know, we still have some space for the tour."
Joel shrugged. "I don't know. I mean, I was just reunited with my daughter, and I don't think she's ready-"
They all turned to see Alexis. She was singing and dancing in the parking lot, teaching Brooke how to dance.
Alexis was graceful and sang the song "Gold" along with Brooke. They laughed as Brooke tried to do a move that only Alexis mastered.
Brooke giggled. "Too bad your going to stay here and not come with us, so many girls and boys are coming that are your age."
Alexis smiled and helped Brooke up. "I wish I could, too."
Joel, Luke, and Moriah turned back at Mr. Hudson.
"So, you have some space for us?"
Mr. Hudson chuckled and nodded.
Moriah shook Mr. Hudson's hand.
"We would love to come."
Mr. Hudson's face lit up.
"That's great! I'll call in a tour bus for y'all."
They smiled and agreed. Joel walked over to Alexis, who was spinning beautifully.
He clapped for his daughter.
"Alexis, did you take dance classes with the Carters?"
Alexis shook her head, breathing heavily because she was tried.
"No, I learned by myself. Music is my passion, along with God."
Joel smirked. "Would you like private classes?" Alexis's face brightened and her eyes grew bigger. "It would be a dream come true!"
Joel's smile grew. "What if I told you, we were going on tour? To be specific, this tour?"
Alexis jumped up and down and screamed at the top of her longs!
"YES!"
Moriah appeared next to Joel. They both laughed at Alexis's reaction.
Alexis ran over to Taya and Brooke, to tell them the news.
Joel turned to Moriah, spinned her around and dipped her.
"Looks like we had a change of plans."
Moriah smiled. "A good change of plans."
They kissed and walked back with the rest.
Looks like they're going on tour...
