Chapter 9: Conversing in a Blackout
You and Ibuki are in your lab listening to a new piece of synth-wave music that you made earlier.
Ibuki: "This sounds like something I'd hear in science fiction movies. You know, before your music sounded chill and mellow and made me relax a bit. But now, I can feel the energy in them."
"I hope I'm not changing too much. I still prefer making music that people can enjoy and loosen up to."
Ibuki: "No way you're changing that much. Look at me, I made music that everyone was rockin' out to and I still I'm going to produce heavy metal."
"Cool. Hey, how's Hiyoko doing? She was rocking hard at your concert during the Festival. A lot of people are still trying to get their excess energy out of their systems."
Ibuki: "Yeah. She was relaxing most of the time. She figured having too much energy wouldn't fit in very well with her teaching others.
"Glad that your biggest fan is doing all right. And as for the others?"
Ibuki: "Gundham is working on his blog and teaching his hamsters new tricks. Peko is currently trying to strike fast-moving objects."
"Bullets?"
Ibuki: "Rubber bullets. She won't get killed."
"Got it."
The music stopped and the lights went out.
"Looks like the power went out."
Ibuki: "Aw man. I wanted to play my music next."
"We can do it once everything comes back. Want to walk together?"
Ibuki: "Guess so."
You left your lab and saw the entire campus shrouded in darkness.
"Apparently the labs weren't the only thing affected."
Ibuki: "What happened? Did the generator go out?"
Everyone left their buildings and gathered outside as you and Ibuki sat near the fountain, waiting for the power to come back on.
"Of all the times for the power to go off, it had to be during the night."
"It's fine by me," Ibuki said, tuning her guitar. "We've got a bunch of engineers here, so it'll come back on soon."
"You're right."
You were about to put your headphones back on, but decided not to.
"When I was a kid, I'd freak out during a blackout. Now, it's not so bad."
Ibuki: "It's the kind of thing you you've gotta get used to."
"I see that now. By the way, was I really quiet when we first met?"
Ibuki: "A little. But hey, I found it cute."
"And I found your energy cute as well."
Ibuki smiled, and suddenly, the power came back to the campus.
Ibuki: "And it only took an hour."
"Want to head back so we can listen to your music?"
Ibuki: "Nah. I'm okay like this."
"Fine by me."
You and Ibuki decided to relax as you took off your headphones and adjusted the speakers so you can listen to the songs on your music player together.
