Thirty-three
I jolted up from my bed and ran towards the door, opening it I let out a sigh of relief when I saw my dad standing in front.
"Daddy, it's you!" I exclaimed, putting my hand on my chest. "You scared the shit out of me!"
"I did what?" He squinted his eyes at my language.
I gave him a sheepish smile. "What I mean is that you scared me. I thought you were a serial killer or something."
"Let's assume if I was a serial killer." He folded his arms and darted his gaze to my bed. "That was your plan to survive?"
I scratched my head. "I was doing the opposite of what they do in horror movies..." I mumbled.
"Next time call someone and don't just lay on your bed like a turkey in the oven." He sternly said.
I matched his gaze and retorted. "Why did you even come like that? You always called me before coming. I wouldn't be scared to death like that if I knew it was you."
"Yeah..." Now it was his turn to get scolded. "It was late, so I didn't call you. I came up to check on you but the door was locked and then you suddenly screamed when your phone rang."
As if on cue, my phone, which was still in my hand, glared, I looked at it and saw it was Noah. "Who's that?" My dad asked, arching his brow.
"It's my rescuer." I gave him a toothy grin and silent my phone. "I have to pick it up and let them know I'm alive," I said, backing away from the door.
"Who is it, Lexi?" He gave me a curious look.
I sighed. "It's Noah."
His brows knitted. "Noah? As in Noah Stone?"
"Yes, Daddy. He's the only Noah I know." I rolled my eyes.
He frowned and eyed my jacket. "And whose jacket is that?"
I squeezed my eyes and internally slapped myself.
Shit!
"It's mine," I murmured, clenching the jacket tightly around me.
"You wear a boy's jacket?" He gave me a blank look and was about to say something else but was cut off by my phone.
"I have to pick this."
"Okay." He nodded his head. "We'll talk in the morning." He stepped back, going towards his room.
"Daddy!" He halted in his steps, turning around.
"Yeah-" I stomped to him and hugged him tightly.
"I'm glad that you're back. I missed you." I mumbled, burying my face in his chest.
"I missed you too, darling." He kissed the side of my head, hugging me tightly.
After a few minutes, I let him go and kissed his cheek. "Good night!" I yelled and ran to my room.
Before I closed the door I heard him chucking, I smiled and went to my bed dialing Noah.
"Lexi..." He panted as he picked up my phone.
"I'm alive, Noah." I chuckled nervously, settling in my bed. "False alarm." The line went silent for a while, I checked my phone to see if he hung up but we were still on call. "Noah-?"
"WHAT THE HELL LEXI!" I flinched at his sudden outburst. "You scared the shit out of me! I thought something happened to you?! What you just did was not funny. Do you have any idea how scared I was?!..." He continued scolding me and I should be sorry for what I did and scared him, but I was grinning like an idiot, feeling giddy again.
It scared him means he cares about me!
"... Never do anything like that again!" He finally stopped and heaved a sigh.
"I'm sorry, Noah," I mumbled, trying to hide the excitement in my voice.
"You don't sound sorry."
"I am! Really! At first, I thought I was seriously going to die."
"What happened?" He asked, I could hear him breathing hard and in the background, I heard dogs barking.
The last time I checked, Noah doesn't have a dog. His father's allergic to them, so they never got a dog.
"Where are you?" I asked, concentrating on the background.
"I-I am h-home, obviously." He stuttered. He always stuttered whenever he lies or is nervous.
"Where are you, Noah?" I asked again. "And don't lie to me," I said in a stern voice.
"I'm outside."
"Why?" I looked at the clock and saw it was around one now. "What are you doing outside this late?!" He mumbled something, but I couldn't get it. "What?"
"I said I was coming to you!" He answered and my breath hitched.
That's why he was panting. He was running to my rescue from his house, which was almost twenty minutes' drive away.
"I-I..." I trailed off, not knowing what to say.
My heart was so overwhelmed that I thought it would explode at any moment. I sat clenching my phone in my hand, feeling fuzzy.
Maybe it was time to confess. I don't think I'll ever have in me to tell him that.
"Noah I-"
"Just go to sleep, Lexi." He cut me off, his voice sounded exhausted. "We'll talk tomorrow."
My heart fell and my shoulders slumped down. "Okay," I said in a low voice as he hung up.
I fell onto my bed and stared at the ceiling. I was about to confess and couldn't do it. Now that I think about it, it's a good thing that I didn't.
I have a boyfriend even though he was fake, and Noah was in love with another girl.
F**k!
I thanked God that I did nothing stupid out of my emotions. It would have been awkward between us. I put my phone away and tried to sleep; I clenched onto Noah's jacket that I was still wearing.
I like Noah and if I can't have him, then I'm happy with being close to him.

I yawned as I cooked breakfast for me and Dad. Last night's emotions came to my mind, but I shook them away.
"Good morning." I turned around and beamed as Dad came and kissed my head, taking his seat.
"Good morning to you too." I put his meal in front of him and got to my seat. "How did you sleep?" I asked, eating my boiled egg.
"Good." He replied and smiled at me. "What about you?"
I nodded my head, gulping my bite. "Great." My voice came out a bit creaked. Dad frowned at me, but I smiled and continued. "How was your trip?"
"Exhausting." He grunted, sipping his tea.
I studied him, sipping my green tea. Dad looks exhausted. There were prominent dark circles under his eyes, and I looked at his beard. Dad always shaved, saying he didn't like a beard, but now he didn't even have time for that. There were a few strands of white hair on his head.
Dad looked handsome as always, but now a little old. His health shot down after mom died. He was so engrossed in his work that he forgot about his health.
"How's your school going?"
"Well..." I told him about the gist of my high school life, about me and Emily like always having the same classes, and about how Kevin won the homecoming game and we were crowned as Homecoming King and Queen.
"Who did you go with?" He questioned, gazing at me intensely.
"I... went with Jax." He frowned his brows and before he could open his mouth I continued. "Yes, daddy, as in Jax Wilder."
"Hm... I thought you guys didn't talk anymore."
Whenever dad comes back from his work, I would always tell him about my days and catching him up with the updates, and never mentioned my former friends to him. He once asked about them and I told him we weren't friends.
"Yeah." I cleared my throat, sitting straight. "Noah and I are partners in Home Economics and Jax... He's friends with Noah so." I finished shrugging.
"So are you both dating?" He narrowed his eyes at me.
"No." I avoided eye contact, gulping my tea.
"Ok." He put his elbows on the table, leaning towards me. "About the jacket, you were wearing."
I internally groaned but plastered a smile on my face. "It's Noah's. He gave it to me the other night because I was feeling cold and I forgot to give him back."
He suspiciously looked at me. "And you wore that last night because...?"
"Because I was feeling cold," I concluded getting from my seat. "Kevin's throwing a party tonight. So I have to get ready for it."
"But it's ten in the morning." He looked at me in confusion.
"Exactly my point," I replied, rushing upstairs to my room.
I have to keep everyone away from my Dad or else everything's going to get confused, he's already suspicious and if dad finds out that I'm dating Jax and wearing Noah's jacket at night, it'll be more confusing. I groaned, stepping towards my room.
I've got myself in such a clusterf**k.
