Nine

Standing in front of my mirror, I observed myself in a white sleeveless top with long peach pants. I parted my long wavy brown hair from the middle and kept them open. It was our date night and I was waiting for Jax to come.

I posed in front of the mirror in different ways and checked myself. I've indeed changed a lot in these past years but I think it was for the better. I mean I got prettier, classier and I have more sense of fashion.

So, why Noah said it wasn't for the better?

My phone pinged and I checked it to see a message from Jax that he was outside. I grabbed my purse and gave one last glance in the mirror.

I won't let Noah's words affect me.

Plastering a smile on my face, I descended the staircase and walked towards the door. I swung the door open and saw Jax in a light blue button-up shirt with dark blue jeans looking good as always.

His eyes darted over my figure as he examined my dress and then smiled at me. "You look pretty."

"Tell me something I don't know," I smirked and closed the door behind me. Jax waited for me to finish and we walked towards his car. "Wait. Let's take a selfie first."

I switched my phone's front camera and found a delicate angel on my face. Jax came from behind and put his head over my shoulder. I clicked a few pictures so I can choose from them.

He opened the passenger door for me, and I got inside, thanking him. He jogged to his side and started his car.

"I reserved seats at a restaurant Natasha told me about. She mentioned the food quality there is good." I hummed in response as I examined the pictures.

Jax sits at our table during lunch now. He had no difficulty fitting in with my crowd, because one, he's also popular and two, he got a friendly nature. He makes friends with a snap of his fingers.

I finally choose a picture in which both of us looked cute and showed it to Jax. "I'm posting this one."

"They all look the same to me." He frowned at the pictures.

"Boys." I rolled my eyes at him.

"What's that supposed to mean?" He asked, focusing on the road again.

"Nothing," I muttered as I uploaded the picture and giggled. "Ivy's eyes will pop out of her sockets when she'll see this."

"She still hasn't talked to me." Jax sighed. "Do you think I should-"

"Have patience." I gave him my sweetest smile. "She'll come running to you. Trust me."

He nodded and parked his car outside a fancy restaurant. It was predictable. Whenever I go out with any guy, they bring me to an expensive restaurant.

Jax came to my side and opened the door for me. Getting out, I adjusted my dress and linked our arms as we entered the gates. The restaurant was luxurious like every other one. The server took us to our seats and helped me sit. I smiled and thanked him.

"Good evening. I'll be your server for tonight." He gave us menus and smiled at me. "What would you like to drink?"

I've come to this place so many times that I've memorized the whole menu. Whenever I dated a guy they'd bring me to this place saying the quality of food here is good. I suspected Natasha might be the reason behind this.

"I'll take Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri," I ordered without looking at the menu.

"Have you come here before?" Jax inquired.

"Every restaurant has it." I shrugged and opened the menu. There's no need to tell him the truth. He'll only feel bad.

Jax ordered his drink and the waiter wrote it down then left us. I skimmed through the menu even though I knew every meal in it already.

After a while, the waiter came back with our drinks. "Can I take your order? Or would you like me to wait?"

"I'll have Asian Sesame Chicken Salad." I smiled at him and closed the menu.

"The steak for me, please," Jax said and eyed me. "You want nothing else?"

"No." I gave him my menu. "I'm on a diet."

He chuckled and turned towards the waiter. "That's all. Thank you."

"It'll take about twenty minutes." With that, he left.

As we waited for our meals to come, Jax began babbling about Ivy. I muted him and sipped my drink, looking around the restaurant.

"Lexi... Lexi?"

"Hm..." I glanced at him and saw him gazing at me.

"You alright? You look distracted."

"I uh..." I cleared my throat. "Actually, I want to ask you something." I placed my drink on the table and leaned toward him.

"What?" His eyes darted between mine in curiosity.

"What happened to Noah?"

"Huh?" His face scrunched.

"I mean, he used to be such a sweet and innocent kid. What happened to him now?" I wondered.

"I guess he changed." Jax shrugged.

"Yeah, but why? Remember when we were kids, and we pranked him with a stuffed cat." I reminded Jax.

"Yeah." He chuckled, leaning back in his seat. "We threw it in front of his cycle and when he rode over it-"

"He thought he killed it and cried like a baby!" I giggled at the memory, then I sighed. "He was so naive and now..." I narrowed my eyes at my drink. "It looks like he's reincarnated into a Devil in disguise who wants to ruin my life."

"What happened?" I told Jax about the incident and the punishment we got. "You could have easily gotten the detention." He said after listening to my rants.

"No way. I want a clean record for my college." I replied.

The waiter brought us our meal, and we quickly dug in.

"About Ivy..." Jax resumed taking a bite of his steak. "What's the next move?"

"I posted our picture together." I laughed at the image of her throwing fists. "She'll be boiling by now."

"Ok-"

"Speaking of boiling." I cut him off. "Why is Noah so serious all the time? He has this face that screams 'Stay away from me or else I'll bury you alive without anyone knowing'."

"I don't know. About Ivy-" I kept ranting not listening to him.

"But he used to be happy all the time when we were kids." I pouted.

"Lexi..." Jax sternly said making me shut. "We're here to talk about Ivy, not Noah."

"Right." I bobbed my head and gestured for him to continue. He chatted about Ivy, but I couldn't pay attention to him as my mind kept going toward Noah.

I still had to take my revenge on him for getting me this 'detention'.

On Tuesday in Home Ec. class, our task was to make any kind of soup we wanted. I groaned, thinking about the cookers we had to wash after that, and had a feeling Miss Mad choose this on purpose.

I made the soup quietly and ignored Noah who sat in his seat with his earphones, writing something in his journal. I wondered what he writes all the time.

I glanced at Miss Mad and saw her busy with her magazine. She never paid attention to what we do. I haven't completed any of the tasks that were given to us before because of the 'incidents'. But today I was planning to finish the soup.

At the end of the class, everyone started to clean their mess but Miss Maddox stopped them.

"You don't have to clean your counters or crockery today." She glanced at me and smirked. "I've got it covered for you all. Class dismissed."

Everyone cheered and rushed out of the class.

"If you want, I can help you guys." Emily offered but I shook my head.

"It's alright, Em." I glimpsed at Noah and beamed. "I got a plan." She looked between Noah and me, then nodded her head.

Miss Mad stood from her place and squinted her eyes at me. "I'll come back at the end of lunch to make sure you cleaned it nicely."

I gave her a tight smile as she walked out of the classrooms and turned to Noah. "You do the dishes, I'll mop the floor."

I didn't wait for his reply and got the mop from the storeroom in the corner. I mopped the floor and watched Noah quietly clean the countertops and got the dirty dishes to the sink. When he turned his back on me, my lips curled into a mischievous grin.

Time for my plan.

I let go of the mop and pushed the stool that hit the ground with a thud and fell on the ground screaming.

"AAAA!" I grabbed my ankle and groaned in pain. "Aw, my ankle!"

Noah rushed towards me and asked in concern. "Shit, Lexi. What happened?"

"I fell." I whimpered and he crouched next to me.

"Can you get up?" I shook my head and bit my lower lip between my teeth to stop my grin.

"Let me help." He tried to get me on my feet but I yelped.

"My ankle, it hurts!" I whined. He inspected my ankle and touched it to check it. I cried out but internally I was screaming in victory.

Geez. I'm superb at this!
