Part 8
Rosemary raised an eyebrow, when she asked him curiously. "Us"? Mark shrugged half-heartedly as he told her reluctantly. "We were avoiding this holiday by hiding the day away. Wanna join"? She bit her lower lip shyly, telling him with a blushing smile. "Alright. Sure". Mark quickly shot a glance over his shoulder to see if Jack was dressed enough. Jack had just pulled on this jeans and was now buttoning them up, when he opened the door for her to enter. The second she entered, her eyes drifted over into the living room to Jack. Jack was slipping his hands into his shirt, as he gave her an acknowledging nod and a smile. She waved to him, before turning her blushing face back to Mark asking. "Am I interrupting something"? Mark waved a dismissive hand, telling her confidently. "No. He just had too much at the bar and I made him sleep over. How do you like your coffee"? Rosemary seemed to think for a moment before answering. "I can make it. I'm kind of picky". Mark lead her to the kitchen and quickly pointed out where everything was. When he finished, he shrank back off into the living room to whisper to Jack. "Can you keep an eye on her? I've got to use the bathroom".
Jack nodded, wincing as Mark helped pull him up onto his feet. Picking up his empty coffee cup, he started to walk up to the counter asking Rosemary. "Hello again. Do you mind filling mine while you're at it? I take it black". Rosemary smiled sweetly, simply replying. "Sure". Jack set the cup next to her, letting his eyes turn to watch Mark slip off down the hallway. As he watched him leave, bits of memory started to return to him in little flashes. If he was roofied than that shouldn't happen... even for a hangover that wasn't normal. Raising his hand to pinch the brim of his nose, he started to recall lost pieces of last night. At least Mark hadn't lied to him. Rosemary chuckled softly, asking him sweetly. "You alright? Do you want an aspirin? I always carry some in my purse". Jack shook his head, taking the cup of coffee from her as he answered dryly. "No thanks. Coffee is all I need". He took a few deep gulps of the coffee, as he listened to her asking. "Have a rough time last night? You guys seemed to be angry at each other at the bar". Jack lowered his cup from his lips to say casually. "We weren't really angry at each other. It's just more like a heated talk. We get loud and we bicker, but it's all in good taste. It's a guy thing". Rosemary rolled her eyes, adding strangely serious. "Sounds more like a stupid thing". Jack narrowed his eyes on her. Something felt off about her. Rosemary suddenly looked up from her coffee with a smile, asking sweetly. "Taste alright"?
The moment she said those words, Jack recalled talking to her at the bar and he dropped his coffee cup. The glass smashed against the wooden floor and Jack took an uneasy step back as he asked her sharply. "How did you know where Mark lives? I didn't tell you". Rosemary's face still retained innocence as she asked him a little concerned. "Yes, you did. Are you feeling alright"? Now that she had mentioned it... he didn't. His vision was blurring and he was getting light-headed again. Slowly kneeling down onto the floor, Jack rubbed his temples and called out loudly for Mark. Rosemary was suddenly at his side, whispering to him as she turned his face to look at hers. "I've been waiting a long time for someone to get that damn potion from her! Now that I have it... I'll think I'll take what I'm owed".
Mark dashed down the hallway and skidded to a stop, just in time to see Rosemary wrap her arms around Jack. A thick pinkish black cloud engulfing them, before they vanished into thin air. Mark's heart felt like it had stopped beating. What had just happened? Was that another witch? What did she want with Jack? Goosebumps ran up his arms as he dashed for the kitchen sink. The potion bottle he had left there was gone! Slamming his hands down against the counter hard, he cursed aloud. Gripping the counter so hard that his knuckles turned white, he tried to think about what to do. He doubted the police would believe him about any of this... Hell, he doubted Bob or Wade would believe this one. What was there left to do? Looking back to the spot where he had left the potion bottle, the idea came to him. There was one person who might be able to help him. The witch who gave him the potion to begin with. There had to be an antidote and a way to find Jack.
Mark didn't waste any time. He snatched up his car keys and practically raced out the door. Jumping into his car and flooring it down the road. He didn't care if he got a few tickets, he couldn't let anything happen to Jack. He got him into this and he was going to get him out. Reaching the bar, Mark took the turn into the parking lot so fast he jumped the curb! It didn't matter though. The bar was closed during the daylight and nobody was around. Quickly parking his car, he dashed out down the sidewalk. He hoped that he'd be able to find that little house store. He really hoped it wasn't like the movies where the place just seemed to up and vanish. He didn't know who else to go to if it wasn't there. He retraced every step that he had taken with Bob and Wade in the hopes of stumbling back upon it. When his heart skipped a beat with overjoy! There it was! The house! Just the way he remembered it! There was still hope for saving Jack yet! To Be Continued...
