Part 7

Mark lowered his cup of coffee away from his lips, asking Jack curiously.  "What do you remember"?  Jack ran a hand through his hair, staring at the floor as he answered unsure.  "I don't know. I remember being at the bar... I remember yelling at you about something... It's all really fuzzy".  Mark took a quick sip of his coffee, trying to think of a way he should answer this.  When Jack pulled the blanket higher up his chest, asking in a voice that suggested he didn't want to know the answer.  "Mark... Did we... you know"?  Mark took another swig of his coffee to chase away his nerves.  He decided to play this like it was no big deal.  Leaning against the counter, Mark stared into his cup.  Keeping his voice soft and sweet, he told Jack with a small smile.  "Ya. The only ones that know about that though are us. I was kind of rushing you to the hospital... when things took a turn".  Jack's face seemed to go very pale, when he mumbled out.  "That drink you were going to give her... could you have lived with this"?

Mark slipped out of the kitchen to collect up his clothes, replying in a regretful tone.  "No. I didn't know what it would do... I just wanted to try it. I didn't think it would really do anything. It was a moment of bad judgement. I'm sorry".  Jack's voice became hostile as he shouted back.  "God dammit, Mark! You roofied me! I'm gonna-"!  Mark jumped back as Jack started to quickly get up... only to cringe in pain and sit back down.  Finishing off his sentence as he winced back down.  "Sit here and tell you what an ass you are"!  Mark's chuckle burst out of him.  He had expected Jack to get up and beat the shit out of him, but clearly after last night it would have to wait until he recovered the use of his legs.  Jack flicked him off, snapping back with a barely suppressed smile and chuckle in his own voice.  "It's not funny, Mark! When I get off this floor, your in for a beating"!  Mark slipped back into the kitchen, setting his clothes on the counter.  Quickly pulling on his clothes, incase Jack recovered faster than expected, a small bottle slipped out of his jean pocket.

The love potion.  There was still a little left in it.  Today was Valentine's Day... He didn't want to be alone... but could he do that to his friend again?  Glancing up to see Jack trying to discreetly grab his clothes through the pain, Mark shook his head and set the bottle by the sink.  No.  He was done with it.  He'd pour the crap down the sink later.  Making another cup of coffee, Mark walked it over to Jack.  Handing it out to him, Mark gave him a warm smile.  Jack stared up at him with a bit of mistrust, but with a deep sigh, he took the cup.  Mark then took it upon himself to collect the rest of Jack's clothes, filling him in on everything he could recall about the night.  Jack deserved to know at the very least.  Afterward, Jack just blushed into his coffee cup, mumbling out embarrassed.  "I see. Thanks".  Mark set the clothes by Jack, taking a seat on the couch as he added honestly.  "Jack, I won't tell anyone. I wouldn't blame you for distancing yourself from me for awhile... I just want you to know that I don't regret last night".  Jack pulled his coffee cup away from his lips, his eyes soft, but whatever he was going to say was lost to the sudden knocking at the door.

Mark blinked in confusion as he stared at the door.  He wasn't expecting anyone.  Bob and Wade had plans with their girls today.  No one, but them knew that Jack was here.  So, it couldn't be anyone for him.  Sliding off the couch, Mark crept up to the door and opened it just an inch or two.  To Mark's surprise it was the woman from the bar.  The one who had rejected the glass he sent.  She smiled shyly at him, shuffling her feet nervously as she told him a little uneasy.  "Hello. You must be Mark"?  Mark nodded, unsure how he should feel about this.  How did she know were he lived?  The woman blushed, finally lifting her head to look at him more confidently.  Although, Mark could still hear the nervousness in her voice as she told him.  "My name is Rosemary. You sent me a drink at the bar? Your friend... Jack? He gave me your address and said I should drop by today. I don't normally do this kind of thing... but I was visiting a friend and she canceled her plans with me for some boy she met... and I was hoping you and I could just go out and talk"?

Mark felt conflicted.  On one hand he was happy she came by... but Jack was here.  He didn't just want to abandon Jack.  Raising a hand to gesture for a minute, he told her a little rushed.  "Hang on a second, will ya"?  She nodded, and Mark closed the door.  Turning around to face Jack, Mark whispered a little loud.  "Did you give that girl my address"?!  Jack shrugged, loudly whispering back.  "I don't know! Thanks to you, there are a lot of things about last night that I don't remember"!  Mark gestured to the door, snapping back in a loud whisper.  "Well, what the hell am I suppose to do with her?! I can't invite her in or she'll ask why my naked best friend is laying on my floor! I can't take her out and leave you here all alone"!  Jack quickly snapped back in his own loud whisper.  "Why not? Afraid I'm going to take out my frustration in your recording room! Besides, it's 'your' fault that I'm naked on 'your' floor"!  Mark pointed a stern finger at Jack loudly whispering back a little frustrated himself.  "You are the reason your naked on my floor, Jack! Now put some pants on at least! I'm going to invite her in for coffee"!

Jack pressed his fingers to his temples, yelling out in a whisper.  "What?! Why the hell are you going to do that? Just say now is a bad time"!  Mark fisted his hands, yelling out in a whisper through clenched teeth.  "I can't turn her away... I'M TOO NICE AND IT'S VALENTINE'S DAY"!  Jack gestured to his legs hidden underneath the blanket, as he whispered out a yell through his own clenched teeth.  "You fucking asshole! I can't stand up! I can barely move! How the hell am I suppose to put on pants"!  Mark straightened up, trying to calm himself down as he gently whispered back loudly.  "Not my problem. Find a way and make it look like you're here for a reason".  Jack tossed his hands in the air, completely confused with what to do.  While Mark reopened the door, smiling back at Rosemary as he asked her politely.  "I can't go out... but would you like to come in and have some coffee with us"?  To Be Continued...
