A Love That Never Was

I watched you from the shadows,
a quiet observer of your light.
Each step I took towards you
felt like a step into a dream
where you were close, yet always out of reach.

My heart whispered your name
before my mind knew its sound.
But the closer I drew,
the clearer it became—
your heart was never meant to echo mine.

I saw the way your eyes lit up
for someone else,
the way your laughter danced in their presence,
and I wished, just for a moment,
that I could be the one to bring that joy.

Your smile, so bright, so captivating,
pulls me in, yet I know
I must stay at the edge,
where longing doesn't turn to desperation,
where admiration doesn't become regret.

Still, I am happy for you,
for the love you’ve found,
a love that I will only know through you.
And though you’ll never see it,
a part of my heart will always belong to you,
