Part 11 - Meeting the Raichands

After bidding Arnav, Khushi, and Zayed first Shan dropped Vivek and then went to the forensic lab of one of his allies for giving the samples for testing. Meanwhile, Arnav and Khushi after dropping Zayed grabbed a light meal from a nearby restaurant as it was quite some time past lunch before going to Jannat.

Jannat, South Delhi, India

As soon as they entered inside both changed into casuals and since Arnav was on the balcony on a call with both Aman and NK about the ongoing investigation, which he informed her during the eat-out, Khushi decided to arrange their closet in the meanwhile.

Finishing the task earlier than expected, she took out a pen drive from the recently arranged drawer and connected it to the television, and switched it on. Then she went to the fully loaded kitchen, courtesy to Gitu and Shan, and took out some popcorn in a bowl before coming back to the living room and settling on the couch before television.

Arnav who after discussing the investigation with the assistant duo and getting and giving some inputs was busy scolding Aman for not properly checking who the people were before giving away appointments when he heard the high-pitched laughter of Khushi. Still, in the call, he went inside and then out of the room in search of her but stopped at the opening leading to the living room when he saw her huddled on the couch, engrossed in the television and laughing her heart out. And instantly his gaze went to the TV and seeing the content he couldn't help but cut short his firing before joining her on the couch.

Sensing his presence Khushi looked at him giving him her precious smile and cuddled with him but got distracted hearing the special music they play whenever Tom chases Jerry and turned back only to see Tom hitting on a wall and a clock falling on his head and she couldn't help but laugh out loud. And seeing her carefree laugh Arnav let out a blissful sigh and set an alarm in his phone before pulling her more into him and turning to the television.

Arnav and Khushi's attires and various postures

And soon he too was laughing his heart out watching the antics of Tom and Jerry even though he had lost count of the times they had watched the same cartoon together ... yep cartoon, especially Tom and Jerry was the guilty pleasure of one of the hotshot shrewd couple according to Canadian paparazzi. And they sat like that for hours until Arnav's phone rang with the alarm. And getting up they were glad they took that break because one they had time before they leave for Raichand Mansion, and two once again it proved to be an amazing stress reliever.

But from the time the alarm rang even though Arnav was talking to her, his absent-minded replies to her queries about her choice of dress or accessories she realized that he was having a me-time sort of thing inside his head. So she let him be and changed into a casual outfit and sat on the recliner going through her mails as he was unusually very slow. But even after minutes passed when he didn't speak after sorting out his thoughts like he usually does she looked up only to see him staring absentmindedly at the mirror with the hairbrush in his hands and she couldn't help but ask with a sigh.

Khushi: It seems like you are in no hurry to leave

And thankfully that brought him out of his stupor and he looked at her through the mirror with a frown saying.

Arnav: Huh?

Khushi: (Sighing) ... don't we have to leave, Nav?

Arnav: Ah ... yes ... one second

Saying this he brushed his hair quickly and put on his cologne and then picked his watch and once again he stopped mid-work making Khushi get up and walk towards him shaking her head. She reached him in a few steps and took out the watch from his hands and made him wear it herself making him look at her startled. Seeing the look on his face she took a deep breath and asked cupping his left shoulder.

Khushi: Baby ... are you worried about Anjali's reaction?

Hearing her Arnav stilled for a moment and his Adam's apple bobbed up and down indicating her guess was right but soon enough he looked away saying.

Arnav: Of course not ... I ... I mean what I even did that she

Khushi: Nav ... please ... when you know you can't lie to me why are you even trying? ... (Holding his both shoulders) ... Nav ... talk to me

Arnav: (Sighing) ... yes Baby ... I am worried because like I said earlier more than anything else it was her presence, care, and concern that helped me to go on during the days I stayed in India after Dadu's demise, especially during the court trials ... she even postponed her wedding shopping for me and what did I do ... in my grief over losing the only person who I had to call my own and the guilt of not being able to give him justice ... I ... (Gulping) ... I forgot the person who made it her life's mission to support me and look after me during the difficult times without expecting anything more than a mere 'Di' from me ... I ... (Sighing) ... I didn't even contact her once after leaving India ... neither did I tried to meet her ... not even when I came to India three years back nor through calls or texts ... heck forget contacting I never even talked about her to anyone other than you and Aunty ... not even to Gitu and Shan ... not once did I ask how she is now ... why? Because like you know escapism was my coping mechanism in the initial days ... and not talking about anyone or anything about my past kinda helped me and of course, the amount of drug I used to take those days didn't let me think clearly ... and by the time I realized what grave mistake I was doing, it had become a habit of sort and I ... (Gulping) ... do you ... do you realize how cruel of it was me Amy ... how selfish ...

Khushi: No Nav ... you can't call yourself selfish or cruel because of that ... I mean like most of the people you were just trying to save yourself from getting hurt

Arnav: Yes but still ... that wasn't the right thing to do ...

Khushi: No ... now it is not but then ... forget experiencing I can't even imagine myself in your place to understand what you might have felt then that you...

But before she could complete her sentence Arnav interrupted her in a warning tone.

Arnav: Baby no ... I don't want even my worst enemy to experience that least of all you

Khushi: See ... that itself shows how traumatizing those experiences were and it's not like you tried to hurt someone intentionally or something ... you were just trying to find a way by which you were least hurt ... and it's not wrong in my viewpoint because in one way or another it helped you to go on

Arnav: (Sighing) ... but the normal world terms it as a sin Amy ... a betray...

Khushi: Nav please ... like I said forget experiencing, the normal world doesn't know the struggles you have been through ... and knowing why you did what you did I won't term it as sin or least of all betrayal ... because like I said earlier neither you did it to hurt them nor did you thought about the consequences ... so maybe you can call it as a blunder or in the worst case a mistake ... and humans are bound to make mistakes

Arnav: (Sighing) ... baby please ... don't justify my mistakes because you love me and you don't want to see me hurt ... because we both know you wouldn't do this ... the this in the question being justifying my mistake if it was someone else

Khushi: You are right ... so what? I mean come on, Nav ... we are not some freaking fairytale princess to do everything right but mere humans ... and like I said earlier being selfish, making mistakes, and favoring our loved ones to protect them from getting hurt are all human nature ... (Stopping him from speaking) ... wait let me complete ... I am not saying it is the right thing to do but it's also a choice ... and if by standing beside you and supporting your mistake if the so-called normal world calls me selfish too then be it ... I am happy being human ...

Arnav: (Horrified) ... Amy ... where are you taking it ... you know that is not what I meant ...

Khushi: (Sarcastically)  ... really? ... so what else did you mean when you told the normal world to term it as a sin, then?  Because as far as I know if what you did is a sin then what I am doing is one too

She asked raising her left eyebrow and he said with a sigh.

Arnav: Sorry it might have come out wrong ... but what I meant was my conscience says it wasn't wise of me to do that ... at least not after I realized my si ... (Seeing her glare) ... I mean mistake ... because I can't imagine myself at the other end ...

Khushi: (Sighing)  ... if that is what your conscience says ... you should ... you should imagine yourself in Anjali's place and tell me what you might have felt?

Arnav: (Sarcastically) ... hurt? ... anger? ... sadness? ... disappointment? ... (Shaking his head) ... the list will never end, Amy

Khushi: (In a calm voice) ... and what if you suddenly met her after a decade ... knowing you I am sure you would demand an explanation ... and what if you finally get to know the reason for her ... hmm yeah ignorance ... that it was the only way for her to go on ... would you call her selfish and cruel then ... would you still term it as a sin ... or would you forgive her wholeheartedly realizing that it was just a blunder she did to survive and apologized?

She asked raising her eyebrow and finally, Arnav understood the point she wanted to make ... yes he would have been hurt, angry, disappointed, sad and all that if the reverse was the case but if the reason was anything remotely close to the one Khushi mentioned he would have readily forgiven her without even an apology. And if the Anjali he was going to meet in some time, which he was sure will happen because if she gets to know that he is going to the Raichands she will be there period, was even one percent understanding and loving as she was in the past she wouldn't even demand an explanation rather would forgive him in his one sorry. Such was the goodness and selflessness of Anjali that only she got the liberty to call him with a nickname he will despise otherwise and only and only she got the fortune of being called with a name by which Arnav Singh Raizada approved their relation by heart ... 'Di'.

Khushi saw the overwhelming emotions fleeting across his face and took him in a warm hug and whispered to his heart.

Khushi: She will understand Nav ... all you have to do is

Arnav: (Tightening his hold on her) ... apologize ... I got it

Khushi: (Playfully) ... I am glad you did ... because of all your shades the least I like is a guilty ASR

She said breaking the hug and he asked with a smirk.

Arnav: Oh really ... and which is that shade of me that you like the most if may I ask?

Khushi: (Smiling) ... this ... this cute ASR

Saying this she tried to run away but he was faster than she thought because like they say experience makes it better. And the next second she was laughing out loud because Arnav Singh Raizada was tickling her ... yep tickling her and her laughter brought a blooming smile on his face too. Khushi tried to catch her breath in between her giggles and said brokenly.

Khushi: Oh...kay ... sorry ... sorry ... sorry ... I will ... never ... call you ... cute again ... Mr. Cute Singh Raizada

She said with a saucy wink which made him gave her an audacious smirk saying.

Arnav: Aha ... it seems like you need some serious punishment you little minx

Saying this he was about to pick her in his arms but she said holding his arms.

Khushi: Okay ... okay sorry ... I will change my adjective

Arnav: (Raising his eyebrow) ... you better

Khushi: (Grinning) ... okay how about hot, sexy, and flirty ASR

He grinned hearing her but before he could show her how happy he was hearing her remarks she had already opened the door and gave him another wink before running out of the room saying.

Khushi: Now hurry up Mr. Cute Singh Raizada ... we have to leave today only

Arnav shook his head with a smile at his fiancée's cheekiness and put on his sneakers and picked up his mobile and wallet before following her out to the car where Mohan was waiting for them. And as soon as they settled on the car Khushi started to share her excitement in meeting some people from his past who all hold a significant position in his life especially Anjali and he felt she couldn't have explained it any better because he too was excited to introduce his Khushi to them and vice versa.

Soon they reached Raichand Mansion and Khushi felt like all her efforts go waste when she saw him going pale as soon they stopped outside the mansion. Arnav saw her enthusiasm fade and took a deep breath and put on a fake smile not wanting to disregard her attempts but who was he kidding she can and had always seen through his façade for which she once again took him in a bear hug saying.

Khushi: Everything will be fine, Baby

Arnav held on to her for a little longer before breaking the hug with a small smile, a genuine one this time, and stepping out of the car held open by Mohan. As soon as he got down he extended his hand towards her. Khushi held his hand and stepped out and then looped her right hand into his left one and started walking to the entrance of the house.

Raichand Mansion, New Delhi, India

The Raichands except Anjali and Puja were seated in the living room anticipating Arnav's arrival with his fiancée whose name was Amy as told by Puja while Anjali and Puja were in the kitchen doing some last-minute preparations for the dinner when they heard the sound of the vehicle being parked. Yash and Nandini smiled with wet eyes at the prospect of meeting him after a decade seeing which Rahul and Rohan looked at each other with a smile and all the four of them got up and walked towards the door tagging Arul along only to see him and his fiance walking towards them hand in hand.

Arnav and Khushi's outfits

As soon as they started walking Khushi glanced at him sideways to gauge his emotion but he was as expressionless as a statue and if she didn't know better she would have thought that it didn't matter to him at all. But the way he pulled her closer with each step they took and the tightly set jaw was more than enough for her to understand that he was nervous like hell and tightened her fingers on his arm expressing her silent support. But after five-six steps his steps faltered making her frown and follow his line of vision only to see a middle-aged couple and two young men standing there with a young boy. She instantly guessed the couple to be Yash and Nandini and the young men their sons whose name she doesn't remember but was wondering who that kid is because Arnav hasn't mentioned anything about him to her. But then mentally slapped herself because the kid doesn't look more than five so Arnav knowing him was next to impossible. But the next instant she was confused about her theory because the boy ran to Arnav and hugged him around his legs shouting something like ... like Maamu? ... Mamma or Mummy she can understand but what the hell was Maamu. She was about to ask the same to Arnav but stopped seeing the smile on his face as he held the boy close to his body with his right hand.

As they started the walk Arnav was trying to be as confident as he can but his resolve broke as soon his eyes fell on the people standing at the door with smiling faces and slightly wet eyes. He slowly stopped walking and looked at Khushi for help only to see her frown and looked in that direction only to see a little boy who resembled Anjali a lot. And he realized his guess was right when the boy came running to him with a huge grin on his face calling him 'Mamu' which suddenly overwhelmed him with emotion as he held the boy close because he understood it all might be Anjali's doings. But before he could confirm the same from him the little boy parted himself away from him and said with a huge grin.

Arul: Mamu ... I am so so so happy to finally meet you in person

Arnav: (Ruffling his hair) ... me too Champ ... by the way what's your name?

Arul: Arul

And Arnav was once again speechless because he had never expected Anjali to keep her silly promise, that she will keep the name of her first child as Arul/Rahna, named after the two most important persons of her life ... her best friend Rahul and her brother Arnav ... yes brother, that's how she used to address his relationship with her. But more than that what he can't understand is that Shyam ... her narcissistic fiancé ... no now-husband allowed her to do that ... but soon he chided himself who was he kidding if Anjali Singh decides something nobody can back her off from it ... just like she agreed to marry that Shyam even after the constant disapproval from Rahul and himself just because that was her late parents' wish. He came out of his thinking zone when he saw Arul extending his hand towards Khushi saying.

Arul: Hello Mami ... I am Arul

Khushi who till now was watching the exchange between Arnav and the kid with an amused smile frowned hearing another unknown word but then thinking that he had misunderstood her name said with a sweet smile.

Khushi: It is Amy, Kiddo

Hearing her Arul looked at her confused while Arnav let out a chuckle before clearing her misunderstanding with a shake of his head.

Arnav: It's Mami only sweetheart ... Mami means Aunt and Mamu means Uncle ... and ... (Turning to Arul) ... Champ you know English?

Arul: Of course ... I am studying in the first standard

Arnav: Great then ... so please talk to her in English because your Mami here doesn't understand Hindi much

He said it with a teasing smile and passing a wink at Arul making Khushi slap his hand with a 'Nav' for making fun of her before the kid while Arul said in a serious voice.

Arul: Is it? ... but don't worry Mami ... I will teach Hindi to you ...

Khushi: (Smiling) ... really ... you would?

Arul nodded his head eagerly and she bent down to his height and said holding both shoulders.

Khushi: Then I am all excited to learn Hindi because I know you will make a great teacher unlike your

She stopped and looked at Arnav not getting the actual word to use but before she could embarrass herself Arnav mouthed the same to her and she said with a sigh.

Khushi: Ah ... Mamu

She finished looking at Arul with a smile who gave her a huge grin in return before frowning and looking up at Arnav.

Arul: Really Mamu ... you are not good at teaching?

But instead of Arnav, Khushi replied to him with a cheeky smile.

Khushi: Not in Hindi ... but he is a great teacher in some other things

Arul: Like?

Arnav widened his eyes at the direction the conversation was going before interrupting them hurriedly making Khushi grin at his wake for which she earned a glare from him.

Arnav: By the way champ ... where is your Mom?

And that thankfully that distracted Arul for he said excitedly.

Arul: Mummy and Poo is in the kitchen cooking ... come I will show you two

Saying this he held both their hands in either of his and started walking making them follow him silently but stopped before the elders as they were blocking his way and said.

Arul: Daddy ... move ... Mamu and Mami want to meet Mummy

Arnav: Daddy?

He asked surprised because the last he knows Anjali was engaged to be married to Shyam but regretted it immediately when he saw the hurt appearing on their faces realizing that he didn't even make an effort to know the basic details of their lives and closed his eyes in regret. Khushi somewhat guessed the situation by the looks on everyone's face and stepping closer to him held his shoulder to comfort him. Arul sensed the sudden silence and looked at everyone in confusion and seeing that, Rohan said.

Rohan: Aru ... go and call your Mummy and tell her that ...

Before Rohan could complete Arul remembering the task at hand run off to the kitchen and Yash said looking at the couple with a sigh.

Yash: Come inside kids ... whatever it is we can sit and talk

Arnav opened his eyes at that and said in a remorseful voice.

Arnav: I am so sorry everyone ... I ... (Gulping) ... I know I have hurt you guys a lot by

Nandini: That's fine Arnav ... you came at least now ... that's all that matters

Arnav: No Aunty ... even though I can argue for myself I won't do that because I know what I did was a mistake ... and I want all of you to understand how guilty I am to ... to have done all that I did

Rahul: As Mom said, it is fine Arnav ... wait let me complete ... yes it hurts that you stayed away from us for whatever reason it was but we understand that it might be something really serious because otherwise you wouldn't do that and we respect your choice ...

And that single sentence was enough for Khushi to understand why these people matter so much to Arnav and smiled unknowingly before looking at Rahul as he continued.

Rahul: And about your earlier question ... (With a small smile) ... I am Arul's Daddy ... I married Anjali

Arnav: (Surprised) ... really ... (Smiling) ... finally ... I am so happy you did

Rohan: What do you mean by finally ... you knew it already?

Arnav: Yeah ... that was his sob story during our stay at Jannat ... but what happened to Shyam?

He asked curiously but before someone could say anything in reply they all heard Anjali's voice from the hall calling out for Rohan.

Anjali: Rohan ... Aru said they came but I didn't hear the vehicle ... was he right or is it your new prank ... if it is the latter you are gone today ... by the way were are ... ah there you are ... what are you guys

Hearing her Rohan and Rahul moved away from the door and Anjali finally saw him ... her brother who unfortunately was born to another mother. But to make sure that she wasn't dreaming she rubbed her eyes before looking at him once again. Arnav saw her doing that and had to blink several times to remove the moisture from his eyes but that was enough for Anjali who took brisk steps towards him and seeing that Arnav looked at Khushi to make sure he was not offending her. And realizing the situation Khushi gave him a bright smile and stepped back followed by a pat on his shoulder indicating to go ahead and he did ... he took brisk steps towards Anjali and met her in the midway and she asked cupping his face.

Anjali: Chote ... are you ... are you really here?

Arnav: Yes Di ... I am ... (Holding her both shoulders) ... I ... I am ... I am so sorry that I

But before he could even complete his sentence Anjali took him in a tight hug and started to sob her heart out. Seeing her condition unknowingly tears filled in his eyes too which he tried to blink away and enclosed his arms around her. And then only he realized how much he had missed her warm hugs and tightened his hold saying.

Arnav: Di ... Di ... please don't cry ... you know I hate to see tears in your eyes ...

But that felt foreign to his own ears as he realized she was crying only and only because of him and he added in a small voice.

Arnav: I know I don't have the right to say that after hurting you so much by my ignorance but

Hearing that Anjali broke the hug and was about to say something but he didn't let her and sat her on the nearby sofa. Then he took the seat next to her and said holding her hands.

Arnav: Please ... please let me speak, Di ... because I want all of you to know why I did all that ... because ... you should know that ... that it was not my intention to hurt you, people ...

Saying this he looked at others and understanding his silent request everybody took their seat except for Rohan and Puja while the former took Arul from Puja's hands went out for an ice-cream treat as they didn't want to traumatize the kid with Arnav's life story while the latter moved away to the kitchen not wanting to pain him more than he already is with her presence for she knows he hates anything or everything related to Guptas, period. Khushi stood aside hesitantly and seeing that Nandini urged her to sit and she took a seat on the other side of Arnav and he immediately held her hand to draw strength from her before continuing.

Arnav: I ... I was so hurt by the time I left India with Dadu's demise and then Gogi winning the case and all that and all I wanted was to forget everything ... every damn thing happened in my life till then because I couldn't go on with that much pain ... it was almost killing me ... so I did everything that helped me to forget it ... be it ignoring you guys or my besties and their parents, rash driving, boxing, alcohol, cigars or even hurting myself physically ... for almost one year I was so high on drugs except for the time I was in college that I had even started to lose control over my mind and body and one day I fainted due to overdose of alcohol

But before he could complete Anjali gasped with a horrified 'Chote' followed by Nandini's feeble 'Arnav' while Yash and Rahul looked at him painfully. And he stopped midway as he wasn't sure whether he was doing a good thing by torturing them with those tragic days because knowingly or unknowingly he always tends to be harsh on himself than needed whenever he talked about those days. Khushi placed her hand on his thigh and gave a gentle press making him look at her. She blinked her eyes to assure him that he is doing good making him gulp a painful lump before facing Anjali.

Arnav: I know Di ... (Looking at Nandini) ... Aunty ... even I am not proud of my younger self for almost ruining myself with my immature behavior... (In a feeble voice) ... but then I

But before he could continue Anjali interrupted him in a gentle voice.

Anjali: You ... (Gulping) ... you can stop it if is difficult for you Chote ... no need to torture yourself with that

Arnav: It's ... it's fine Di ... I ... I want you guys to hear me fully before even thinking to forgive me

Nandini: You did nothing to ask for forgiveness, Arnav ... we will gladly go through it all over again if you did all that to live

Arnav: I ... (Gulping) ... thank you for that Aunty ... but I think I need to get this out of my system for me to be able to forgive myself for being a selfish basta...

He said gritting his teeth but before he could even complete Rahul interrupted him in a warning tone.

Rahul: Don't Arnav ... don't attach that 's' word to yourself since you did that because it was the only way for you to go on ... and like Mom said if it was our absence which helped you to survive then be it ... because all we ever wished for was your happiness ... with or without our presence doesn't matter ... so yes if this confession is what will relieve you then go on ... we are all ears

He said with an encouraging smile and Arnav gave him a thankful nod before speaking.

Arnav: So where was I ... yeah ... the day I fainted ... my roommate was out with his friends whole night and it was only in the next day morning he found me unconscious on the floor and rushed me to the hospital ... and when I opened my eyes ... I was worried because my besties weren't around which shouldn't surprise me with the way I treated them but those idiots never stopped trying so it was definitely worrisome ... and I asked my roommate about them and my worry proved to be right because the previous day noon Shan had met with an accident and was admitted in the hospital and Gitu was dealing with it all alone ... and that was a tragic realization for me and I ... (Wiping the lone tear that rolled down his right cheek) ... I literally went running to them and they even took me back without batting an eyelid ... but after that I decided to put a control over my alcohol usage and even though it was very painful for my body to accept that by the end of next year there was a considerable reduction in the amount I consumed but of course there were days when I was pretty wasted due to the overwhelming emotions like on days on which I missed Dadu so much ... like my birthdays, his birthdays, his ... his death anniversaries, the day I got my first salary...

He choked on his words and couldn't even complete his words as once again emotions overwhelmed him and seeing his condition the Raichands shared worried glances. But they didn't have to think much for they saw Khushi circling his shoulder with her right hand and rubbing his right shoulder in a comforting way and whispering some comforting words. In return, he held her right hand with his left one tightly and closed his eyes. And within seconds he was back to being almost normal and cleared his throat before speaking making others look at the couple in amazement.

Arnav: So ... even though there had been significant variations on some days the amount of drug reduced more and more with time and I started to think and behave more maturely and wisely. But by then this avoidance of my past, especially my life in India, had become a habit to me and truth to be told I never thought about how to rectify my mistakes because returning to India or meeting you guys was never on my agenda ...

He said avoiding eye contact with others as he realized how cruel that sounded but continued since he wasn't interrupted.

Arnav: Not until three months back ... (Sensing the eyes on him) ... err ... I ... I met Dadu's friend one Mr. Khan in a conference and during reminiscing his old days he reminded me about Dadu's dream to build an educational institution for those who wish to study but don't have money and support, especially girls

Yash: Oh yes ... that was his long-time dream ... he even had brought some land but right now it is on

Arnav: Mrs. Hritika Raizada's name ... I know ...

Yash: No, Arnav ... that is what the second thing I said I wanted to talk about ... he ... had submitted a modified will days before the accident ... by which along with Jannat, that land and Raizada mansion is also on your name ...

Arnav: What ... but he never?

Yash: I know ... I too wasn't aware of it then ... it seems like the court procedure took time more than he expected or something ... anyway I got hold of it two days after your departure and have kept it safe all these years

He said with a small smile but Arnav looked at him with an uncertain look as he said.

Arnav: I ... I don't know what to say Uncle ... I mean the land may be a great help because I remember Dadu saying it is the best place in Delhi to built something like that

Yash: It is Arnav ... and that's why Alok is planning to open a restaurant there

Arnav: What the hell ... if the will is in my name how could he

Yash: He doesn't know that Arnav ... I made sure of it because I know he or his mother will play nasty to get it on their names otherwise ... but now that you are here ... you can claim whatever is yours

Arnav: Like I said that land is a great asset Uncle and Dadu wanted to build the institution there and I will do anything to make it possible ... it was decided before I even knew about the ownership ... and now it is more simple and as per what he told you Jannat was the gift he planned to give me if I ever decided to settle in India but Raizada mansion ... I ... I don't know I mean you know right ... I ... (Gulping) ... I was always a worthless piece of trash for the people there...

But before he could continue Khushi interrupted him.

Khushi: No Nav you are keeping it ... at least for the time we are in India ... (Smirking) ... because it's time we show your actual worth to some people ... no ... no discussion on that

She said determinedly making others thrilled with his choice of life partner while Arnav sighed in defeat and mumbled an okay, fine ... as you say making her grin before addressing others again.

Arnav: So yeah ... after the discussion, I had with Mr. Khan I decided to fulfill it ... and if ... (Gulping) ... if Dadu would have been alive it would have been his ninetieth birthday in less than three months ... and I ... I intend to open it that day ... I know it will not be easy with getting approval from various government departments and all that but I don't want to give up without trying

Rahul: Don't worry about all that Arnav ... I am not a bureaucrat for nothing

Yash: Yes Arnav ... we will open it that day only ... we all are with you

Arnav gave a grateful nod to the father and son before he stood up saying.

Arnav: So yeah ... that is all there to it and like I said now you people can decide whether you want to forgive me or punish me or nothing to do with me at all

Anjali: My answer remains the same as before Chote ... (Getting up and cupping his cheek) ... you are here now and that's all that matters ... even though I am happy that you shared everything with us

She said with happy tears in her eyes and once again took him in a warm hug and others too nodded their head agreeing with her.

Arnav: Thank you so much Di ... I knew you would understand because it's only you who understood me like no one else

He said making Khushi raise her left eyebrow and he passed her a playful wink but broke the hug in confusion when Anjali giggled and looked at her with a frown. And literally, his jaw dropped when he heard her next set of words.

Anjali: You don't need to butter me up Chote ... I know that's not true and rightfully so ... because now you have your exceptionally beautiful fiancée who you haven't introduced to us till now ...

Arnav looked at her in confusion seeing the sudden change in her behavior making Anjali hit his forehead playfully saying.

Anjali: Arre Buddhu (Idiot) ... now don't stand like a pole and introduce us

Nandini: Exactly Arnav ... because we all are very eager to get to know the woman who stole our Arnav's heart

Yash and Rahul also nodded their head agreeing with her and Arnav said sheepishly.

Arnav: Oh yes ... I am sorry ... I mean I should have done this as soon as we came ... (Sighing) ... but anyway ... (Turning to Khushi) ... Amy

Khushi looked at him startled because even though she was admiring the bond Arnav shared with everyone in the house, especially Anjali and their banter, she wasn't actually paying attention to the words being said nonetheless stood up and went to him on his gesture. As soon as she reached them Arnav hugged her around her shoulders and said in a cheery voice.

Arnav: So everyone this is Amal ... not just the woman who stole my heart but my heartbeat itself ... (Turning to Khushi) ... and Amy...

But before he could say anything more they all heard the sound of a vehicle followed by some slow footsteps and looked to the front only to see Rohan entering with Arul in his arms. Rohan sensed the eyes on him and mumbled a 'Sorry that was all I could manage' but sighed in relief when he looked at their faces and said.

Rohan: Okay I guess we are at the correct time ...

Rahul: Yeah

Arul who till now was busy unwrapping a chocolate bar looked up hearing his father's voice and as soon as his eyes fell on Arnav and Khushi he looked at Rohan and said in an irritated voice.

Rohan: Put me down Chachu ... let me go to them

Rohan put him down with a sorry but he cared less about it and went to Arnav and Khushi and took out two chocolate bars from his pocket saying.

Arul: Mamu ... Mami ... see what I got for you guys ... you know I just love them but you guys can take this since I already had two ice-crea... oops ... err ... Mummy I ... I didn't want it ... but Chachu insisted so much and I ate it as I don't want to upset him

He said seeing the look Anjali was giving him making Rohan gape at him hearing the blatant lie while others smiled seeing the antics of Arul. And Arul now his mother glaring at his Chachu concentrated back on his Mamu and Mami and extended the bars towards them.

Arul: Here ... take this

Arnav: (Kneeling in front of him) ... you have it yourself Champ ... Mamu and Mami wouldn't mind ...

He said passing a quick look at Khushi and she too nodded her head agreeing with him.

Arul: But ... (Twisting his lips in confusion) ... I brought this for you two

Arnav: (Smiling) ... that's fine Champ ... you love it so much ... moreover Mamu isn't allowed to eat sweets while your Mami love dark chocolates not white

Arul: Oh ... but ... (Whispering so that Anjali wouldn't hear him) ... Mummy will scold me if I have more sweets today

Arnav: (Chuckling) ... she won't ... just tell her that you ate them in the happiness of meeting Mamu and Mami for the first time

He whispered with a wink and hearing him Arul's eyes twinkled in happiness as he knew that will surely work and he said hugging Arnav around his neck.

Arul: Thank you Mamu ... you are the best-est Mamu in the world

Arnav: (Caressing his back with a smile) ... I am ... you know why?

Hearing him Arul parted himself from Arnav and frowned at him curious to know the answer and Arnav said with a shrug.

Arnav: Because I am Arul's Mamu

In reply, Arul gave him a wide smile and Arnav put his arms around his soft body and hugged him close to his heart making the Raichands share a content smile that he is finally here. Arnav's case too wasn't very different as he tightened his arms around Arul to make sure that all this was actually happening. But he realized his hug was a little too tight when Arul said in a muffled voice.

Arul: Ah Mamu ... you are crushing me

Arnav: (Breaking the hug) ... Oh I am so sorry Champ ... (Cupping his cheek) ... did I hurt you?

Arul imitated his action and cupped his left cheek with his chubby hands and said with a smile.

Arul: You crushed my palms a little, that's all ... but that's fine ... you were too happy to meet me, right?

Arnav: That's right ... and I think this will heal it

He said taking Arul's small palms in his big ones and kissing his knuckles and Arul said with a big smile.

Arul: Oh, it will ... Mummy always does that whenever I am hurt ... but how do you know that ... did your Mummy used to do that too?

Arnav: No ...

He said in a curt voice because forget kissing to heal his pain, he doesn't even remember his mother taking him in her arms or hugging him or even looking at him with a little kindness ... ever. But seeing the little bit of fear in Arul's face he composed himself and gave him a warm smile before telling him the bright side of the harsh reality.

Arnav: I meant it was not my Mom but my Dadu who used to do that for me

Arul: Really? ... (Seeing Arnav's nod) ... seems like he is such a darling just like my Mummy

Arnav: (With a sad smile) ... he was

Arul: Was? ... You mean he is not a darling anymore?

Arnav: He ... (Gulping) ... he is not anymore, Champ

Arul: Means?

He asked confused before realization dawn upon him and he asked in a sad voice.

Arul: Wait ... did he also go to Bhagavan Ji like my Nanu and Nani?

In reply, Arnav only nodded his head with a forlorn look and Arul said cupping his left cheek.

Arul: Oh don't be sad Mamu ... because your Dadu must have turned into a star just like my Nani and Nanu and he might be watching over you ... and of course he wouldn't like to see you sad, right ... so smile

And Arnav couldn't help but smile at his wise words so did the elders. And seeing his Mamu smile he too smiled and said.

Arul: Wow Mamu ... you look more beautiful while you smile just like in the photo Mummy has the two of you

Arul finished off excitedly but hearing that the smile on Arnav's face vanished as he went to the day the photo was taken and the promise he had given to her ... the same promise he had broken all these years ... that he will be always there for her as her Rakhi brother. And understanding exactly what he was thinking Anjali interrupted them in a playful tone before he could go down the guilt trip once again.

Anjali: Okay now enough of this Mamu-bhanja milan (Uncle-nephew union) ... and continue with the introduction

Arul: (Frowning) ... introduction?

Rahul: Yeah Aru ... your Mamu was introducing us to your Mami before you came

Arul: What ... we were gone for too long but still you guys haven't even introduced each other until now ... what do you people were doing then?

Yash: We were just talking Aru ...

Arul: Without introducing each other ... strange ...

He said looking at everyone with a frown but the next second he turned to Arnav and asked excitedly.

Arul: Hey Mamu ... can I do that ... I mean introduce them to Mami?

Arnav who now had composed himself gave him a 'go-ahead' with a small smile and moved aside while Arul went to Khushi and held her hand before going towards Yash and Nandini with a huge grin.

Arul: So Mami ... that is my Dadu means by Daddy's Daddy Yash and Dadi that is Daddy's Mummy Nandini

Khushi smiled at Arul before addressing the couple with a small smile.

Khushi: Hello Mr. and Mrs. Raichand

Nandini: Call us Aunty and Uncle like Arnav does, Bitiya

Khushi smiled at the suggestion but frowned at the last word but before she could voice out her confusion Arul said slapping his own forehead.

Arul: Uh-oh ... I forgot to mention the most important thing ... Mami doesn't understand Hindi ... so everyone should speak in English like I am doing ... right Mamu?

Arnav nodded at him with a smile making him grin and he told to Khushi.

Arul: And Mami ... Bitiya means daughter okay ... now come

Saying this he then moved towards Rohan and Rahul.

Arul: Here ... this is my Daddy Rahul ... and this, my Chachu means Daddy's little brother Rohan

Rohan: (Extending his hand) ... hello Amy ... I hope you don't mind me calling you that?

Khushi: (Shaking his hand) ... of course not, provided I can call you Rohan

Rohan: Certainly

She then shook hands with Rahul also but before they could speak, Arul who was getting impatient with their unnecessary talks pulled at her hands once again and brought her to Anjali.

Arul: And this is my lovely Mummy and Mamu's Di, Anjali ... and Di means

Khushi: Sister, right?

Before Anjali or Arul could respond to that Arnav came to them and asked with a frown as he doesn't remember telling her that.

Arnav: Yes ... the elder one to be precise ... but how do you know that?

Khushi: Well ... it always reflected in your eyes whenever you talked about her ... and now the way you two interacted ... (Smiling) ... it strongly reminded me of the bond I share with Danny ... (Looking at a confused Anjali), my brother

She said making Arnav smile and seeing that, Anjali said.

Anjali: Aru is right Chote ... you look too good when you smile ... (Teasingly) ... by the way you smile more often than earlier ... can I ask the reason?

Arnav: It's just that I am happy, Di

He said shaking his head making Anjali's smile widen and once again hug him tightly saying.

Anjali: I am so happy Chote ... that you finally found your happiness

Hearing her Arnav burst out laughing causing others except Khushi to look at him with a frown while Anjali broke the hug and groaned saying.

Anjali: I am serious Chote ...

Arnav: Sorry ... I wasn't making fun of you Di ... it's just that your words were spot-on and I ... (Seeing her frown) ... err ... I think I forgot to mention that ... hmm ... Amy's first name is Khushi

Anjali: Wow really ... but then why did you introduce her as...

Khushi: (With a small smile) ... Amal? ... well what can I say ... my parents found this extremely weird idea of naming their children after their both set of grandparents cute ... it was still fine for Danny because 'Daniel' and 'Edward' was not weird in our place but forget others and my own parents and brother even I used to find 'Khushi' extremely difficult to pronounce in my younger days and that's how people started to address me with my second name 'Amal' which was the modified form of my maternal grandmother's name 'Amalia' since Dad liked the meaning of 'Amal' better and 'Amy' became the nickname

Anjali: Why are you calling it weird Khushi? ... it is such a cool idea ... I think I will use that method for Arul's future siblings ... (Biting her tongue realizing what she said) ... err ... I meant we can use that method when Rohan and Puja have their kid

Khushi: (Smirking) ... of course ... you meant that only ... and Anjali I will like if you and others will call me Amy only ... err ... no hard feelings it's just that ... (Winking) 'Khushi' is patented by your brother

Anjali: Really? ... then I better call you Amy than facing his infamous anger

Anjali said it with a chuckle and Khushi too joined her and Arnav could only shake his head seeing two of the five most and only important ladies of his life team up against him and behave like best friends. But boy he was in for a surprise because there was someone ready to jump in for his defense.

Arul: Okay enough of making fun of my Mamu ... and Mummy it's not wrong if you get angry if suddenly someone else calls our dear ones with the name only we used to call till now because I know how it feels

Arnav raised his eyebrow hearing his matured words and looked on curiously along with others when Rohan asked him.

Rohan: Who angered you like that Aru?

Arul: (Huffing) ... who else other than your Darling friend Nitu ... oh don't look at me like that she always irritates me by calling my Poo as Poo ... right Poo?

He asked looking around but frowned as he couldn't find her nearby but finally sighed in relief when he saw her standing at the kitchen door and watching them with a smile and said.

Arul: Ah ... there you are

And that's when the elders except Rohan realized that she wasn't there the whole time. Rahul looked at Rohan and the brothers shared an understanding look while the other Raichands were confused and Anjali voiced it out.

Anjali: Puja ... what are you doing there alone?

Puja: Hmm Bhabhi ... I was just ... I mean I

Puja said awkwardly casting a glance at a confused Arnav assuming that she will get the hint. And not only Anjali, but all others also got the hint and Arnav said with a sigh.

Arnav: You don't have to distance yourself from your family thinking that it will make me happy, Puja ... because it doesn't ... instead it will make me guilty if I am the cause of that. (With a sad smile) ... because more than anyone else I ... (Hoarsely) ... I know the pain of watching your happy family without you in it ... the pain of being an orphan even after having a fam...

Khushi immediately held his shoulder unable to see him like that making him turn and hug her tightly while tears filled in Puja's eyes hearing the pain of a world in those simple words and she said remorsefully.

Puja: Arnav ... I am so sorry if you felt like that ... but I ... I was just

She gulped unable to form proper words because the major credit for him to be living the life of an orphan goes to her family, especially after Dadu's demise and she doesn't know what to say to make him feel better. Realizing that it is not good for Arul to witness this too, this time Rahul took him to his room saying that they will bring down the gifts he has for his Mamu while Rohan was beside Puja to support her.

Hearing her Arnav broke the hug and Anjali and Nandini literally flinched seeing his red eyes making Puja even guiltier and look away. But Rohan's tightening hold on her shoulder reminded what she was supposed to do instead of just being guilty so clearing her throat she started to speak again.

Puja: Arnav ... it's just that you are here, after years and I know what you mean to this family, especially for Bhabhi ... and when you came seeing the way you held Bhabhi I realized that the feelings were reciprocated ... that if not more you are as much as happy to meet them as they are. And from ... (Gulping) ... from the day you walked out of Raizada Mansion declaring your hate for Raizadas and Guptas, I know unfortunately I too belong to that category and I just didn't want to upset you when you were genuinely happy after a long time, or at least it was the first time I saw you this happy after Dada Ji

Puja completed in a hoarse voice as again the word Dada Ji made her remember what Arnav said yet failed to prove ... that it was her mother and his grandmother who planned his accident and it was her sister who helped them with that.

Arnav: Puja I ... I can say that you have no fault in what happened and I don't blame you and all that and be the great person but truth to be told ... I did ... (Sighing) ... I did hate not just Raizadas and Guptas but anything and everything related to them but time and maturity taught me that you and Adarv were not to be blamed because you two weren't aware of anything

Puja: And that was the biggest mistake we did Arnav ... in the process of enjoying our freedom we forgot about the family we have here ... the siblings we left behind and now seeing the way my sister is all set to ruin your life along with hers we have no one but ourselves to blame

Arnav: You said it Puja ... mistake it was ... and you know what differentiates it from a sin ... that you can rectify it, right?

He asked looking at Khushi making her smile as he not only understood but accepted the truth she was trying to make him understand before continuing with a sigh.

Arnav: So I think it's time for you and Adarv to stop this guilt trip and think about rectifying it if you wish to that is ... (In a determined voice) ... and about Ms. Gupta ruining her and my life ... I don't know nor I care about hers but come what may ... (Holding Khushi close to himself) ... I won't let her ruin the life I have so carefully built for myself

Puja nodded in understanding as she thought about Arnav's words about rectifying the mistake and realized he was right its time they let go of the past and correct the present if they wish to have a peaceful future and decided to talk to Adarv about the same. And hearing his next set of words she could only sigh at the contempt with which he had said Ms. Gupta because this is what she was trying to explain to her sister all these while ... that Arnav hates Raizadas and Guptas period. But she was glad that at least she and Adarv aren't included in that category anymore and she couldn't wait to share it with Adarv because even though he said Arnav behaved cordially with them at his apartment and they even shared breakfast he will be ecstatic knowing that Arnav himself said that he doesn't hold a grudge on the two of them anymore. She came out of her thinking session when Anjali said cheerfully.

Anjali: That's the spirit Chote ... never give up that

Arnav: Not even for a second Di ... because how can I live without my heartbeat?

Khushi: Baby ... please don't make me over emotional over here

She said because she hates being vulnerable in the presence of others, at least in their first meet itself.

Anjali: Yes Chote ... (In a teasing voice) ... because she cannot let you know her happiness through a kiss in our presence, right Amy?

Khushi: And why can't I?

She asked confused and Anjali opened and closed her mouth not having anything to say as she expected anything but that and seeing that Arnav couldn't help but laugh out loud confusing Khushi more.

Khushi: (Raising her eyebrow) ... what?

Arnav: (Shaking his head) ... nothing

Khushi: But

But before she could probe more Arul came running down the stairs with a set of papers and extended it towards Arnav and Khushi. They looked at each other in confusion before going through the papers and it turned out to be some sketches he had drawn of his family arranged in the chronological order of it drawn. Yes, it surely made Arnav emotional that Arul considered him to be a part of his family for a very very long time but this time it was Khushi who went speechless because the last two sketches drawn today had the addition of one more member in it ... Mami. And unable to contain her emotions she bent down and picked him in her arms before hugging him tight and kissing his right cheek. Arnav too bend down and kissed his other cheek and Arul hugged them both around their neck while the elders stood smiling at the scene. After some time when Arul released him, Arnav pocketed the papers and they all settled down for the dinner on Nandini's request. And once again Arnav was overwhelmed seeing all of his favorites and ate tummy-full so did Khushi who couldn't help but praise the various homemade dishes which she had only ate from restaurants until now.

After dinner, Yash went to the outhouse with Arnav and Khushi, and as she demanded she wants to, Raghav's daughter Rhea told them everything that happened till now. She was trembling with sobs at the end but said in between that.

Rhea: Sir ... I want them to be punished for everything they did to me ... otherwise they won't hesitate to repeat it and I don't want one more girl to go through all that ... is it ... is it too much to ask for?

And even after going through such unbearable pain the determination with which she said that she wants to punish her culprits made Arnav look at her with respect than admiration. But her final question undid him and all he wanted to do was to hug her tight but seeing the way she clung to her mother all the while he guessed that maybe she was still not comfortable with a male touch so he hesitatingly placed his hand on her head.

Arnav: Bhaiyya ... you can call me Bhaiyya ... and no it is not too much but the least you can ask for ... and I promise you, come what may I will make sure that it happens

And his guess was right Rhea cringed a little when he extended his hand towards her but his words soothed her and she nodded her head with a teary smile saying.

Rhea: Thanks Bhaiyya

Arnav: You don't have to thank me Rhea ... it's my job

Arnav said with a slight smile before getting up to leave while Khushi walked up to Rhea and held both hands in hers saying.

Khushi: Never leave this courage and determination Rhea ... everything else will fall in place

Rhea nodded her head positively and Khushi gave her a quick hug before walking up to Arnav and Yash who were standing outside the door waiting for her and whispered.

Khushi: Arnav, Uncle ... I guess she needs some counseling

Arnav: Yeah I was about to say that

Yash: (Nodding his head) ... I too thought about it ... but taking her out in this situation

Arnav: Check if there is someone trustworthy available for a home visit or something ... otherwise Amy can always help, right?

He asked looking at Khushi who said uncertainly.

Khushi: I don't know if she will be okay ... I mean I think she will be comfortable with someone who can converse to her in her native language ... but it's only my guess ... if she is comfortable I am more than willing to help

Arnav and Yash nodded in understanding and Yash called for Raghav and the two of them moved near the garden. While Khushi looked sideways at Arnav as she asked.

Khushi: Hey ... what was she telling about Shan, Nav?

Arnav gave her a confused look before realization dawned upon him and he said stopping in his track and facing her.

Arnav: Oh I am so sorry Amy ... I was so into her misery that I forgot that you won't probably get the head or tail of it. And about what she said ... hmm that day

Khushi: I don't need the recount of that day Nav ... I just need to know what she said about Shan, officers, calls and all that ... was she telling that they got threatening calls from a police officer and thus she was even afraid of Shan?

Arnav: Police officers, yes ... but why did you tell that you don't want to hear about what happened that day? ... I mean without knowing it

Khushi: (Holding his left shoulder) ... the expressions and emotions on her face when she recited the incident told more than any language can, Nav

And the confusion on Arnav's face cleared and he nodded in understanding before resuming their walk.

Entering inside the house they saw Anjali and Nandini sitting in the living room talking something seriously while others were nowhere to be seen. Assuming that they might have retired for the night Arnav cleared his throat and said with a small smile.

Arnav: Aunty ... Di ... let us call it a night then as it is we already

But before he could continue Nandini shared a look of hesitation with Anjali before asking.

Nandini: Do you have any urgent work Arnav?  ... if not we have something to talk to Amy alone

Arnav and Khushi shared a confused look and seeing that Anjali added immediately.

Anjali: Only if Amy is comfortable

Arnav once again looked at Khushi to know her answer and she gave him a blink indicating that she is before looking at the duo and nodding her head. And Arnav moved to the adjacent verandah after giving a nod to the ladies to give them privacy.

Entering there he saw Rahul standing in the farther end of the verandah facing the railing and asked clearing his throat.

Arnav: Can I join?

Hearing him Rahul who was lost in his thoughts came back to his senses and said turning around.

Rahul: Of course you can Arn...

But before he can continue Arnav interrupted him in a shocked voice.

Arnav: Wait ... you were smoking?

Rahul: Why the shock Arnav ... you know that long ago

Arnav: Okay ... maybe that came out different but what I meant was why still ... I mean the reason you started it in the first place isn't even there anymore

Rahul: That's right ... but to quit a bad habit is not as easy as you think to start one ... (Sighing) ...but I am trying especially after Aru's birth as I don't want to set a bad example for him ... but sometimes the temptation becomes too strong to ignore and I start again but last year I went to rehab and the doctor advised me to reduce it gradually rather than quitting altogether since it's been a long time. Since then I am trying the same and now the count has reduced to one per day

Arnav: Oh I have been told the same and I am trying to follow that in case of drinks but I stopped cigars abruptly

Rahul: (Bewildered) ... means ... you quit smoking ... you actually quit smoking? ... And that too abruptly (Seeing his nod) ... but doesn't it have some serious side effects ... and how the hell did you even fight the withdrawal symptoms?

Arnav: It wasn't easy ... no it was the most difficult thing about quitting and yeah the side effects ... but nothing was scarier than the consequences of continuing it

He said in an alarmed voice making Rahul look at him in concern as he asked.

Rahul: What happened?

Arnav: Well ... there were some health issues but I didn't take it that serious until ... err I ... (Looking away with a slightly flushed face) ... I don't think you want to know that

Rahil: (Amusedly) ... okay, now I am really curious ...  what is it?

Arnav: (Shrugging) ... well ... my then-girlfriend and now fiancée told me that she wouldn't let me be close to her, not even to kiss her until I quit

Rahul: What ... you can't be serious

Rahul asked disbelievingly before bursting out laughing stopping even the conversation of the ladies in the living room for a minute and Arnav said sarcastically.

Arnav: Oh I think you are finding it too funny

Rahul: (Grinning) ... to be honest, I am

Arnav: Really ... then I should ask Di to try the same what say?

Rahul: What ... you wouldn't dare

Arnav: (Shrugging) ... try me

Rahul raised both hands in surrender before the two of them share a quick laugh. Then the both of them fell silent for some time and stood staring outside until Rahul asked playfully.

Rahul: By the way where is your heartbeat?

Arnav: (Chuckling) ... in a conversation with Aunty and your soulmate

Rahul: (Surprisedly) ... you remember?

Arnav: (Shrugging) ... of course ... after all that was my first glimpse of true love ...

Rahul: (With a sad smile) ... true and painful

Arnav: Yeah ... so how long it did take her to realize that you are more than a best friend to her?

Rahul: Oh she did take a lot of time ... exactly speaking one year, eight months, and ten days after Shyam was out of her life

Arnav: Oh by that you didn't tell me what happened to Shyam?

Rahul: What do you think might have happened?

Arnav: He cheated on her or she realized that she was just a money-making machine for him?

Rahul: (Sighing) ... both ... Anjali caught him with another girl and when questioned he shamelessly told her that he was only with her because she had a huge bank balance

Arnav: (In a concerned voice) ... it must have been painful for her

Rahul: (Sighing sadly)  ... yeah it was ... but as they say time is the best healer ... and of course I was with her on each step

Arnav: Well ... (With a sad smile) ... I don't agree on that because it was more or less the opposite for me but I am glad it was for her and she had at least you with her during difficult times ...

He said with a forlorn look with guilt etched on his face and Rahul said to change his mood.

Rahul: Now leave about ours and tell me your love story ... was it the same college love story ... the love at first sight type?

Arnav: (Nodding negatively with a smile) ... no ... I was attracted to her at first sight but love took its own sweet time to bloom ... (Chuckling) ... in fact for onlookers including Shan and Gitu it was war at the first sight ... (Shaking his head) ... no, not just in the first sight but for a long time

Rahul raised his eyebrows at him disbelievingly making Arnav sigh saying.

Arnav: Yeah ... I know it's hard to believe with what you saw between us till now ... but that is just a side to the relationship

Rahul: Hmm ... so what was the reason for these fights if may I ask?

Arnav: (Sighing) ... initially it was our big fat ego especially the inability to accept each other's intellect ... what happened?

He asked confused when Rahul started to laugh suddenly.

Rahul: (Controlling his laugh) ... I am sorry it's just that hearing the word 'intellect' I remembered some interesting conversation between you and Anjali when we used to live in Jannat ... remember how Anjali pestered you one day about the things you notice about a girl and attract you to her to check whether you were a gay or not seeing your general detachment to girls?

Arnav: (Chuckling) ... yeah and she confirmed I am one in my first answer itself

Rahul: Oh you can't blame her because you said IQ ... so was it right in Amy's case?

Arnav: Not fully ... I mean what attracted me to her was her eyes and that rare but charming smile but the first thing I noticed about her was her intellect and wisdom

Rahul: Okay ... so you partially lived up to your word

Arnav: (Smiling) ... yeah kind of

Rahul: (Sighing) ... so ... the other reasons?

Arnav: Huh?

Rahul: For your fight with her?

Arnav: Ah yes ... apart from ego there was my insecurity and fear of attachment and her jealousy since she thought that I and Gitu were a couple and later  ... the feelings we used to awoke in each other and the palpable tension between us got strong and it was our way of fighting it

Rahul: So who lost it first?

Arnav: (Smirking)  ... together? ... hmm well ... we ended up kissing in between one of those fights and we seriously don't remember who approached whom first

Rahul: (Chucking) ... what really?

Arnav: Yep ... that too in front of the whole

He started of jovially with a smile but all the lightheartedness left him and his face hardened the moment he heard a 'you ... what are you doing here?' in that same irritating clingy voice and moved to the living room followed by a worried Rahul.
