Part 10 - Actual vs Real
Jannat, Skyline apartments, South Delhi, India
After finishing the call with Yash, Arnav started to walk inside with only a single thought in his mind ... that he immediately needed detailed background checks on all the culprits of this case so that he can have a clearer picture about their activities but he knows it is not safe to do that officially with the help of Shan as it will alert them. So he took out his phone and texted Aman to do that secretly with the help of Khushi's assistant Narain Kashyap as NK had worked for three years as an assistant to the district magistrate before this and thus have enough contact in Delhi.
The chatter in the table came to a halt when they saw Arnav approaching the table after finishing the call and not to mention they were all worried seeing the disturbed look on his face as he typed away on his phone. But as soon as he finished typing he looked up and they looked at him in fascination seeing him composing himself quickly.
Arnav: (Smiling) ... it was Yash Uncle
Gitu: What ... but from where did he get your number?
Hearing her Arnav immediately looked at Shan with a frown and he said raising his hands in surrender.
Shan: What ... I didn't give him ...
But Arnav didn't look convinced as he knows Khushi and Gitu will never do something to upset him while Shan sometimes does even though it will be for his betterment only in the long run so Shan said holding his throat.
Shan: I swear, Arnav ... I only gave that in the court
Arnav: (Raising his eyebrows) ... and you are saying that it's not you ... (Taking his seat) ... anyway ... leave it ... by the way did you got the permission letter to enter the school?
Shan: No I didn't ...
Arnav: What ... but you said today noon ...
Shan: Arrey ... allow me to complete the sentence yaar ... no ... I didn't get it but it is not needed since sir is going to accompany us
Arnav: Oh ... okay
Khushi: But ... why do we need a permission letter in the first place ... I mean you are the investigating officer, right Shan?
Shan: (Sighing) ... I am ... but it is not that simple ... err ... actually this case was reported to my subordinate but when he refused to file the FIR for reasons guessable the party decided to meet the superior and as I was on annual leave due to Gitu's fall from the stairs and SSP sir was out of town due to a death in the family, DIG sir registered the case and when I rejoined, assigned that to me ... so now if someone wants to enter the scene other than police officials, either you need his physical presence or a permission letter since it is such a controversial case
Khushi nodded in understanding and everybody resumed eating. By the time they almost finished the food, Gitu asked Arnav as she couldn't contain her curiosity anymore.
Gitu: By the way Nav ... what did Yash Uncle say?
Arnav was caught off guard with that sudden question and thus took his time in chewing the food as he was thinking how much he should disclose as he wasn't ready for another revival of some distasteful memories, especially not in the presence of Adarv and Nitya.
Arnav: Well ... he invited us ... as in Amy and me for the dinner
Khushi: What?
She asked bewildered because she always had been uncomfortable in eating before strangers and tries as much as to avoid it unless it is unavoidable, especially if it is in a formal setting as she considers eating together as a very intimate gesture and Arnav knows that too well to agree on something like this without consulting her. Understanding her unease, Arnav immediately held her hand under the table and whispered apologetically.
Arnav: Sorry ... it was inevitable ...
Khushi: (Patting his thigh and in a low voice) ... it's fine, Baby ... I understand
Arnav gave her a grateful smile and not wanting any of them to probe on that matter anymore he turned to Shan asking.
Arnav: By the way ... what about the car and driver?
Shan: The car is already in your allotted place and the driver
Khushi: Driver ... why do we need a driver?
Shan: Well ... because you both can't drive ...
Khushi: Excuse me ... what do you mean by we both can't drive ... (Seeing the expression on Arnav's face) ... what the hell is happening, Nav?
Arnav: Baby ... if you remember both of our IDPs was expired last week and it will take time to get them
Khushi: Oh ... but your Indian license?
Arnav: I wasn't eighteen when I left the country, remember?
Khushi: Oh ... here it is eighteen ... right ... but hey ... the address on the license is Espoir's ... so who will receive it then ... or you mean we will have to wait until we return?
Arnav: Nope ... the address on the application is Bonheur's as I guessed we wouldn't be around that time so had asked Aunty to send it as soon as it arrives which I think will take a few more days
Khushi: Oh...kay
Arnav: And Shan ... ask him to meet me as soon as he comes ... I mean I need to talk about the salary and all ...
Shan: Don't worry ... it is all set and he will be here in an hour ... (Hearing the message on his phone) ... oh it is sir ... he is home ... so let me go as I have to discuss something with him before we leave for school ...
Saying this he went towards the faucet and after he washed up, he said looking at Gitu through the mirror as he wiped his face.
Shan: And you ... come ... I will drop you home before I leave ... no ... don't even think of refusing ... you have strained yourself enough for today and you need rest ...
Gitu: Oh ... for God's sake Shan ... I am okay ... and moreover the brace will also be removed tomorrow evening
Shan: That we will see when we see the doctor because I don't think that will be the case after the way you ran around the house like you did when you were advised for complete bed rest
Arnav: (Shouting) ... what the ... you were asked to have complete bed rest and you ... (Taking a deep breath) ... go ... go with him Gitu
Gitu: But Nav ... I am ...
Arnav: I said go, Gitu ... go and take rest otherwise it will start to swell at night
Shan: Exactly ... so now come ...
Gitu: (Sighing) ... okay, I will ... but can I at least wash my hands?
She said making Nitya giggle while others could only roll their eyes at her dramatics. But as soon as she got up and started to walk she stumbled on her steps as she walked too fast and Nitya, who was beside her immediately held her hand saying.
Nitya: Come ... let me help you to the wash
Gitu nodded her head with a small smile and the two of them went to clean up followed by Arnav, Khushi, and Adarv.
Coming back to the hall where Shan was waiting for her, Gitu turned to Arnav and Khushi saying.
Gitu: Guys ... I know you two are hell busy until Monday afternoon ... but dinner will be at our place that day ...
Khushi: But ... (Looking at her leg) ... your ...
Gitu: No ... no argument over that ... we have a lot to catch up ...
Shan: Gitu is right ... you should come as it's been a long time we all got together ... and don't worry about her leg, after the hearing, I too am free on Monday and I will make sure she wouldn't even lift a finger ...
Gitu: But I am telling no ... I would be alright by tomorrow
Arnav: That we will see later ... now agree on what Shan said ... otherwise no dinner plan
Gitu: (Grimacing) ... okay, fine I agree
Nitya and Adarv who stood in the background smiled at the exchange between friends and noticing it Gitu said excitedly.
Gitu: Hey ... why don't you two join us too ... it will be fun ...
Adarv: I don't think it will be possible as we have another function to attend on Monday ...
He said faking a smile before Nitya could reply positively as he didn't want to spoil another good time of his brother by intruding on their friends' time and Gitu said with a sigh.
Gitu: Okay ... maybe some other time ... (Holding Shan's hands) ... shall we leave then?
Shan: Yeah and Nav ... I will inform you when to come and will meet you guys directly in the school ...
Arnav: Yeah ...
Adarv: I think we too should leave ...
Nitya: Yeah we should ... okay then bye guys ... it was a pleasure meeting and getting to know all of you
Khushi: (Smiling) ... likewise ...
Soon, after taking each other's leave, Adarv-Nitya and Shan-Gitu left leaving the couple alone. Closing the door Arnav took the bowls of leftover dishes and placed them in the fridge and placed the dirty utensils in the dishwasher while Khushi got busy talking to Daisy as she called.
After that, she went to take bath whereas Arnav was trying different ways to avoid thinking but as always nothing helped him and his mind betrayed him as it started to wander to today's happenings which again reminded him about the disgusting past he so wanted to forget. And needless to say, he was an emotional mess as he thought about his life starting from the hell called RM to the dreamlike life he had spent at 'Espoir', the apartment he bought along with Khushi when they decided to live together. But his thought process broke by a text alert on his phone. He took it out to see it was from Shan and it was a phone number. Frowning he was about to call him and ask him who's number it was but before that, another message came which said 'It's the driver's number'. Sighing he copied the number to save it but as he pasted it in the dial pad, the latest call from an unknown number caught his attention and soon his mind went to the conversation he had with the owner of that number and worried will be an understatement as he thought about the way Yash reacted for not keeping any contacts. After all, if it was any trailer to what to expect in Raichand Mansion, he better don't go there than getting burned by Nandini Aunty, Rahul, and most importantly Anjali Di as he had no idea what to say to them because just like he had said to Yash he himself has no idea why he did what he did.
Arnav: (To himself) ... no ... Arnav ... don't think about that now ... we can deal with it as and when it happens ... and even if you will not be able to woo them today you have a lifetime to do that ... instead, you should think about the case for which you have to appear on day after tomorrow
And as he thought about the case his mind went to the girl, her father, and the culprits to his Dadu's murder and again to the awful past and again he said to himself in a frustrated voice.
Arnav: Stop being an emotional fool and think, ASR ... think about something which isn't related to the goddamned past
But who was he kidding it was all interconnected so after a few failed attempts he took a deep breath and walked to the kitchen to prepare some iced beverage which may help him to calm down and think about the case logically.
After some time
When Khushi came out after bathing she saw Arnav standing at the balcony leaning on the rails with his back to her and walked towards him throwing the towel on the recliner. She took silent steps to surprise him but as always he turned around just in time for her to touch his shoulders with a smirk. She mock-glared at him even though it warmed her heart that he could always sense her presence but soon her expression changed from mock to real as soon as she saw the glass in his hands and she shouted at the top of her voice.
Khushi: Nav ... how could you ... how could you do this even after promising me that ... oh I get it ... (Pointing the glass) ... this is more important to you than me, right? ... okay fine ... enjoy your ...
But before she can complete she was pulled by him and before she knew it she was in his arms with him hugging her from the back as he bit out in a hushed but angry voice.
Arnav: Nothing and no one is more important to me than you Amy and you know that ... so don't you dare to repeat it ...
Khushi: Yeah right and that's why you ...
Her words stopped as he pushed the glass towards her forcing her to drink the content.
Khushi: (Swallowing the content) ... oh! ... it's iced tea ... (Sensing his chuckle more than hearing it) ... don't you dare to chuckle ... one is bound to think like that ...(Mockingly) ... because as per you, you seem to think more logically when you consume alcohol
Arnav let out a small chuckle and placing his head on her right shoulder said in a teasing voice.
Arnav: But I can't upset my Chèrie (Sweetheart) for a few sips of alcohol now, can I? ... so settled with caffeine (Sighing) ... but to be honest with you ... (With a wicked smirk) ... my system badly needed some alcohol to help me out from the haze I am in but I refrained myself only because you asked me to
Khushi: Baby ... now don't make me guilty by picturing me as the wrongdoer ... I am doing this only for your ...
Arnav: Betterment ... I know ... I was just kidding ... but on a serious note, you don't have to mock you know ... because alcohol does help people to think more clearly
Khushi: (Sighing) ... I know it does ... but not with the amount you consume ... so it is best if you stick to caffeine itself
Arnav: (Raising his head from her shoulder) ... what? ... but the Doc said I only have to reduce my intake
Khushi: (Looking sideways at him) ... yes ... but that was before your boozing stunt ... so consider it as a punishment for that
Arnav: (Breaking the hug) ... what? ... don't tell me you were telling me to stop drinking when you took that promise from me
Khushi: Not for the lifetime ... but for some time, yes ... (Sighing) ... at least until your diabetes comes under control ... (Smiling) ... and to tell you what there is another thing that will help you to relax and think more clearly ... in fact, it is much simpler and effective
Arnav: (Raising his eyebrow) ... and that is?
Khushi: A long warm hug from your beloved people ... it works well for me because it can give me a feeling that whatever crap happens in life they will always be with me ... and it is also scientifically proven and ... (Seeing the look he is giving her) ... what?
Arnav: Nothing ... I was just wondering why the hell are you wasting both of our time by preaching about the goodness of it instead of doing that already ... (Seeing the bewildered look on her face) ... come on already ...
He said placing the glass on the nearby table and extending both his arms and she literally jumped into him hugging him tightly around the neck while his arms went around her waist picking her slightly above the ground before placing her back on the floor and tightening the hug more. And true to her words, her warm embrace coupled with her soft fingers in his scalp was more than enough for him to relax and he was ready to face anything ... be it Raichand's wrath, the nonsense of a marriage, the foolish obsession of his so-called wife, his parents' newfound concern and the budding relationship with his brother ... literally, anything if and when it happens if he has her with him. And they remained in that tight embrace in complete silence until Arnav's phone rang with a call from Shan.
Arnav: Haan bolo ... (Yes, say) ...
Shan: Nav ... we will start in fifteen ... you two reach in hmm ... one hour ... (Before he could say something) ... and now please give the phone to Amy
Arnav: What ... okay ... here
Saying this he gave the phone to Khushi and walked inside. Entering the room, he saw the towel carelessly thrown on the recliner so taking it he walked to the washroom shaking his head at her never-changing behavior, and put it on the washing machine along with the other dirty clothes.
Here, Khushi finished the call with Shan and walked to the luggage and took out their clothes, and made a mental note to herself to soon unpack the things lest they all get creased like Arnav's formal shirts. Sighing she took out one from them and walked to the ironing table near the balcony only to hear Arnav's confused voice.
Arnav: Where are you going with that?
Khushi: It's all creased ... need a press
Arnav: Okay you go get ready ... I will do that
Khushi: No you won't ... because you don't know how to press a button shirt properly
Arnav: What the ... that's not right ... I am doing it from forever
Khushi: Well ... doing something for a long time doesn't mean you are doing it right, baby ... so back off and let me do my job
She said patting his cheek and he knows she was right but of course, he wasn't going to accept it that easily so said with a shrug.
Arnav: Okay ... you do whatever you want ... but don't think I agreed because of your 'don't know it right crap' ... it's just that ... that ... yeah ... I am lazy
Khushi: Of course
Khushi said with a straight face to give him the satisfaction but smiled as soon as he turned away because she knows that it is anything but the truth and Arnav who saw that in the mirror couldn't help but shake his head with a smile at her cuteness.
Khushi came back to the dressing table after ironing to see him brushing his hair already changed into his slacks and held the shirt open for him to wear before she changed into her clothes. Arnav finished buttoning up the shirt and turned around only to utter.
Arnav: What the ... Amy ... we are going to visit a crime scene, not for a picnic
Khushi: (Rolling her eyes) ... as if I don't know that
Arnav: Then why the hell are you dressed like that?
He asked raising his eyebrow with the that in the question being a white sundress.
Khushi: Prey ... before that tell me the whole point of me not being the expert witness along with Dr. Khan
Arnav: (Shrugging) ... because I didn't want the defendants to know that an Interpol forensic expert is also involved in this case
Khushi: And why is that?
Arnav: (Opening the luggage and taking out a coat) ... I thought you understood?
Khushi: That is not the answer to my question
Arnav: (Sighing) ... because Gogi wouldn't realize what hit him unless he reads the report on Monday which happens to be the day of the trial too and he wouldn't get time to do the damage control which wouldn't have been the case if I added you as expert witness because he will study your previous cases which will give him a clue about your in-depth knowledge in the field and that will obviously lead to tamper more proofs
Khushi: Exactly ... so what would happen if I come to the spot as Dr. Khushi Amal Lewis, A criminal psychologist who has multiple degrees in forensic science and works for Interpol? ... (Seeing the expression on his face) ... I guess you got it?
Arnav: (Nodding his head) ... yeah ... (Turning to the mirror and wearing the coat) ... so ... who are you at the school? ... I mean how are you going to explain your presence?
Khushi: (Grinning) ... well ... I am just a budding clinical psychologist who decided to accompany her fiancé as he wasn't physically well for a few days due to variations in blood sugar level ... what?
She asked coming towards the mirror seeing his grin and he said looking intently at her through the mirror with a smirk.
Arnav: (Buttoning up the coat) ... well I was thinking that rather than becoming normal, the patients will go more insane if their psychologist is dressed like that
Khushi: (Twisting her mouth) ... very funny
Saying this she was about to go from there but before that Arnav caught her hand and trapped her between him and the mirror, saying.
Arnav: I am serious, Baby ... forget patients, even I am being insane by just one look at you ... (Huskily) ... because you look smoking hot
Khushi: (Smirking) ... well ... you don't look too bad yourself
Arnav: (Raising his eyebrow with a smirk) ... really just not too bad?
Khushi: (Shrugging) ... yep ... unless you decide to hold on to the business look.
She said indicating his suited-up avatar.
Arnav: Your wish my command, baby ...
Saying this with a wink he removed the coat and placed it on the bed. Then he tucked out the shirt and folded the sleeves until his elbow before wearing his sunglasses and asking.
Arnav: Now?
Khushi who was busy applying lipstick took her time to finish it before asking with a raised eyebrow.
Khushi: Do you want the answers through words ... or actions?
Arnav: (Removing the sunglass) ... are you kidding me ... (Smirking) ... obviously actions ...
He said pulling her in his arms, and needless to say, it took a couple of minutes for Khushi to show him how sexy he was looking and to reapply the lipstick and correct his and her appearance. Then seeing the time they quickly wore the footwear and sunglasses and left downstairs.
Reaching down, they directly went to their allotted space and saw a man in the driver's uniform smoking leaning on the parked car with his back to them. To be sure that he is the one, Arnav called him in a doubtful voice.
Arnav: Excuse me ...
The man immediately turned around and guessing who it might be, threw the cigarette on the floor to blow it out and removed the smoke with his hands before saying.
Driver: Maaf keejiye ... main bas (Sorry ... I just)
But before he could continue Arnav asked in an astonished voice.
Arnav: Mohan ... is that you?
Driver: Ji ... par aap ... ek second ... Arnav Bhaiyya aap ... aap yahan ... aap kab aaye ... aur aap kaise ho? (Yes ... but you ... one second ... Arnav Bhaiyya you ... you here ... when did you come and how are you?)
Arnav: Earth to Mohan ... earth to ... yes ... it's me Arnav ... I landed yesterday ... and yes ... I am doing great ... what about you and how is Manohar uncle?
He asked remembering the soft-spoken chauffeur of his Dadu who was with him for almost two decades.
Mohan: We are all fine too ... in fact, Baba was speaking about you last week
In reply, Arnav gave him a small smile before saying.
Arnav: Tell him that I will come to meet him one of these days ... ab chale? (Shall we go?)
Mohan: Ji (Yes) ...
Saying this he held the backdoor open and the gentleman he is Arnav gestured Khushi to enter first and then he too settled beside her. As Mohan started the car she laid her head on his right shoulder and he pointed out different things in the journey and shared some old memories. And they were in their own world until they heard Mohan calling Arnav.
Mohan: Bhaiyya ... aap bura nahin manenge to kuch pooche? (Bhaiyya ... if you don't mind can I ask you something?)
Arnav: (Raising his eyebrow) ... kya? (What?)
Mohan: Kya aapne shaadi ki? (Did you get married?)
Arnav: Nahi ... par karne vala hoon ... (Holding Khushi around her shoulders) ... yeh mera mangetar hai ... Amal ... (No ... but gonna ... this is my fiancée ... Amal) ...
Mohan: Oh ... Namaste, Bhabhi (Hello, Bhabhi)
Khushi looked at both of them with a frown because she couldn't get the heads or tails of their conversation and seeing that Arnav explained to her with a sigh.
Arnav: Amy that is Mohan ... he was my junior in the school and his father, Manohar uncle had been Dadu's chauffer for years ... he was asking me whether I am married and I said no but gonna and that you are my fiancée ... and for future reference, Shaadi means marriage and mangetar means fiancée
Khushi: Oh
Arnav: And then he said Namaste, Bhabhi ... Namaste is a customary Indian greeting and Bhabhi means Bhaiyya's, that is brother's wife or fiancée
Khushi: Oh ... you mean he was greeting me ...
Arnav: (Shrugging) ... yeah
Khushi: Then how do I return it?
Arnav: Namaste ...
Khushi: What?
Arnav: Na-ma-s-te ... Namaste
Khushi: Nama-ste, Mohan
Mohan nodded his head with a smile and concentrated back on the road and the couple again went back to their own world until they reached Gupta public School. As soon as they got down Shan came to them and seeing Mr. Vivek Basu DIG of police and Dr. Zayed Khan the forensic expert talking to each other standing at a little distance, Arnav whisper-asked Shan.
Arnav: Hey ... (Looking at his watch) ... are we late?
Shan: No ... we reached early ... now come
I know, I know it's too much but introducing Mr. Vivek Basu IPS, DIG of police, and Dr. Zayed Khan, a forensic expert who is going to appear in the court as the expert witness as they are important characters for the current case, but of course not necessary that you will have to remember them, unlike the ones I had included in the character sketch because their roles more or less end at the verdict of this case.
Mr. Vivek Basu IPS
Dr. Zayed Khan
Soon they reached the duo and Shan said pointing at his back with both hands.
Shan: Sir ... my friends ... they reached
Arnav came forward and said extending his hand to the DIG.
Arnav: Arnav Singh Raizada
DIG: (Shaking his hand) ... Vivek Basu ... I am the
Arnav: DIG of police ... I know sir ... Shan ... I mean Nishan told me ...
Vivek: Oh he told me a lot about you too, Mr. Raizada
Arnav: (Raising his eyebrow) ... I hope all good stuff
Vivek: (Chuckling) ... of course ...
Arnav: (Gesturing towards Khushi) ... and this is Dr. Khushi Amal Lewis
Vivek: (Extending his hand to Khushi) ... hello Ms. Lewis ... must say the suggestions you gave Nishan to collect the proofs were unbelievable ... but what to do everything went in vain ... (Sighing) ... anyway I just hope we will get something after this
Khushi: (Shaking his hand) ... likewise
Shan: Amy ...
Khushi: (Turning to him) ... yeah
Shan: This is Dr. Zayed Khan and Dr. Khan ... here ... your idol ... Dr. Khushi Amal Lewis
Khushi: Idol?
Zayed: Yes, Ma'am ... from my college days
Khushi: But ... I mean ... how do you even know me?
Zayed: I had read an article by you as a part of my assignment and I was so intrigued by your findings that I searched about you and your cases ... and I must say you are truly inspirational ... I mean this many degrees at such a young age ...
Khushi: (Winking) ... thanks for the compliment, Dr. Khan ... but it just that I love my work ...
Shan: (Side hugging Khushi by her shoulders) ... Dr. Khan ... I agree you are excited to meet your idol ... but we have a lot to do ... so ...
Zayed: Of course, Sir ... let us go ...
Shan: Yeah ... and remember she is just a clinical psychologist for others ... so she won't be possibly able to do anything directly ... we will have to do everything ourself
Zayed: Sure
Soon they all went to the room where the crime had happened and as Shan said Khushi couldn't possibly do anything other than gesturing and showing to check some objects and corners, as the vice-principal of school was also there talking to Vivek and Shan, Zayed or sometimes even Arnav had to select the samples of different things and take some photographs from and of the room and surroundings.
They had just finished the investigation and locked the room when they saw the principal of the school, Mrs. Arti Ram Gupta coming there and as expected, she was fuming to see Arnav and Khushi together as she had just finished talking to her daughter about the happenings in Arnav's apartment. And seeing her enraged state, Arnav held Khushi's hand to stop her from walking further and with a smirk bend his head and whispered in her ears.
Arnav: That is Mrs. Gupta ...
Khushi: What ... (Looking at Arti and then turning to Arnav) ... oh Nav ... she already looks livid ... (Gesturing at his hands on her either hip) ... you are pouring oil in the fire by this ...
Arnav: Then let her explode ... who cares ... by the way doesn't she already look like the gas station opposite Espoir with that red and white saree of hers?
Khushi: (Elbowing him with a chuckle) ... Baby ... you are too much
Arnav: (Grinning) ... can't help it, Baby ... this is too funny ... I mean look at her it is clear from her face that she wants to shout her heart out but can't do anything other than glaring for it will spoil her reputation ... and ...
But before he could say more about the enjoyment he is having seeing the helpless anger on his so-called Mother in law's face, Shan called them from the front.
Shan: Guys ... what happened? ... Aren't you two coming?
Arnav: Of course we are ... (Winking) ... after all, we have a plan for the evening you know
Shan: Okay ... then come ... let us lea...
But he stopped mid-sentence when he saw Arti approaching Arnav but ignoring her completely Arnav turned to Khushi and asked side hugging her.
Arnav: Shall we sweetheart?
And Arti was left in the middle of nowhere while Arnav and Khushi walked away with the other three. But she quickly composed herself and turned around as if she remembered something and called out to the vice-principal and asked some random things. The vice-principal replied to her obediently while she was busy promising to herself to pay him back soon for the insult he caused to her by walking away as if she is someone unimportant while she badly wanted to speak to him ... or better threaten him to leave that foreigner and come back to her daughter.
Outside the school
The group of five reached outside and Arnav-Khushi and Shan-Vivek walked to the respective cars while Zayed walked to the gate and seeing that Shan asked with a frown.
Shan: Did you park the car outside, Dr. Khan?
Zayed: No ... I mean ... a friend dropped me as my car is given for service
Shan: Oh ... how are you going then ... will your friend come?
Zayed: No ... he is stuck up in a meeting ... he messaged me a few minutes back ...
Shan: Then come ... I will drop you ...
Zayed: No ... no sir that is not needed ... anyways you are going in the opposite direction
Before Shan could reply to him, Khushi suggested.
Khushi: Then come with us ... we are also going in that direction
Zayed: No ... no, Ma'am ... you don't have to bother ... I will catch a cab
Khushi: Why wasting time and money when you can just join us
Zayed gave a fleeting look to Arnav who was busy reading something on his phone from the corner of his eyes as he was already intimidated by the man seeing his commanding aura and the things he read about him didn't help either and said unsurely.
Zayed: But ...
Khushi understood his hesitation and asked holding Arnav by his right shoulder.
Khushi: You don't mind him coming with us, right Nav?
Arnav: (Locking his phone and pocketing it) ... of course not ... get in, Dr.
Saying this he opened the front door of the car and gestured him to enter causing Mohan to wake up from his sleep. Mohan was embarrassed and was about to get down to open the door but stopped hearing Arnav's authoritative voice.
Arnav: Koi baat nahi, Mohan ... hum sambhal lunga (It's fine, Mohan ... we will Manage) ... and yeah ... we need to drop Dr. Khan on the way ... (Turning to Zayed) ... tell him the address, Dr ...
Mohan and Zayed nodded their heads and Zayed settled in the passenger seat. Arnav held the door open for Khushi and she was about to enter but stopped hearing the notification alert on Arnav's phone and started to walk towards Shan's car. Shan stopped the car seeing her gesturing her fingers as a phone while Arnav asked confusedly.
Arnav: What happened?
Khushi: (Turning around) ... my phone is with him ... you get in Nav ... I will just come
Nodding his head Arnav entered inside and took out his phone to check what the notification was about. It was a voice message and the name of the sender instantly brought a smile to his lips, which got wider when he heard "Honey ... I am sending you pictures of two shirts ... tell me which one you like ... and tell me fast before Danny comes here and find these".
And as told, soon he received the pictures of two shirts. Shaking his head at her antics to make him chose he pressed the download but even before it can actually appear he pressed the microphone and said" You choose, gorgeous ... I am good either way" and soon he got an angry emoji in reply followed by a voice message which said, "This is not done Nav ... I mean have you even saw them?". He pressed the microphone once again saying "It doesn't matter..." he took a deep breath realizing how true it was because the thought to remember him while shopping and buying something for him mattered than whether it was his choice or not but he knows she wouldn't budge it that easily so he added with a smirk "... because I know whatever you choose, will be best for me". The reply was instant and he couldn't help but feel overwhelmed when he heard "Nice try darling and I must say I would have been flattered if I didn't know you better ... (sighing) ... but anyway since you said it's my choice I am selecting the white one because you look dapper in white ... by the way, do you have a few minutes to talk". He typed an 'of course' and dialed her number but not before grounding out in a low but tight voice.
Arnav: That was my mother in law, Dr. Khan
Zayed: But you ... I ... I mean Ma'am ...
Khushi: He meant my mother
Hearing her sound he turned around only to see Khushi and Shan standing outside the car and said remorsefully.
Zayed: I am sorry, Ma'am, I was just ... sir, I was ...
Saying this he turned to Arnav only to see him engrossed in his call so turned back to Khushi saying.
Zayed: Ma'am ... I am so sorry if you or sir felt offended ... but trust me that wasn't my intention... you were away and hearing them speaking I was just
Khushi: You were just concerned for me as you know he is my fiancé ... I know ... he too must have understood ... otherwise, ASR never gives an explanation
She said as she had seen the way he was looking at her again and again and guessed that Arnav too might have noticed that, because like she said otherwise he doesn't give a damn about what people thought about him. Gesturing Shan to speak she entered the car only to get her hands squeezed by Arnav in happiness for understanding him without words and in return she gave him a warm smile. Zayed once again looked apologetically at Arnav as he knew it was bad manners to overhear someone's conversation even if it was for good intent and Arnav blinked his reply before concentrating back on the call.
Shan: Hmm Dr. Khan
Shan said catching Zayed's attention.
Zayed: Yes sir ...
Shan: You go with Nav and Amy to my apartment ... you can stay there until the verdict is out ... and don't worry I will ask someone to bring your things
Zayed: What ... but why?
Shan: Well ... I got a call from the SI ... he was passing by your apartment and found Gogi's men nearby ... and we all think you should stay somewhere else
He said indicating himself, Vivek, and Khushi with his eyes but Zayed smiled a little before saying.
Zayed: I am not that weak that they can defeat me easily ... after all for what are these muscles for ... but even if they did kill me, I am happy to die doing something good rather than living the whole life with repentance ... and if you are afraid that he would buy me ...
Shan: No ... no ... that is not what I meant ... but ...
Khushi: Let it be Shan ... if that is what he wants...
Shan: (Taking a deep breath) ... okay, I will agree but only on one condition ... that you will agree with two of the constables guarding your apartment
Khushi: Agree on that man ... that way at least they will be there to help you to take Gogi's men to the hospital after you punch them black and blue ...
And Zayed can't deny his idol now, can he? So he nodded his head but before he could say it verbally they were interrupted by Arnav's laugh as he said on the phone.
Arnav: You are too much, darling ... did you really say that to him?
Shaking his head Shan gestured that he will do the necessary and turned around only to see Arti watching him from the second floor and he couldn't help but compare the way Arnav treats his real mother in law to the way he treats his actual mother in law and vice versa and without a doubt, like Arnav the real one won his heart too.
