Chapter 31: In the Name of Inheritance
"Mom, do you really think Dion is falling in love with that hillbilly?" Gina asks, her face practically burning with jealousy.
"I wasn't born yesterday, Gina. I can tell when something's fishy," Katherina says, rolling her eyes.
"If Dion doesn't get married, that means we get some money from Uncle, right?" Gina asks, raising an eyebrow.
"Oh, looks like someone's interested in Kostas's cash now," Katherina says, sarcasm dripping from her words.
"What else am I supposed to do? You've wasted all of Father's money and wealth!" Gina snaps, and Katherina's face immediately changes.
"I didn't waste it! How do you think we lived such a luxurious life?" Katherina retorts, her voice rising.
"What's the point of a luxury life if you burn through it till we're living on the streets?" Gina grumbles.
"We're not homeless," Katherina snaps, her temper flaring.
"We are. We're living in someone else's house and scheming to get his money. And you didn't even give me a dime from Dad—you stole it all," Gina fires back, her anger matching her mother's.
"Enough, Gina. You better learn how to talk to your mother," Katherina warns, her voice sharp.
"You better learn not to steal your daughter's inheritance, Mom," Gina retorts, and just like that, both of them fall into a heavy silence.

Lakis keeps telling Rita to go back home, but after talking with Grace, Rita has a lightbulb moment. She's starting to smell a rat with Katherina, so she decides to stick around.
"Lakis, I think we should stay here and look after Dad," Rita says, her words as firm as a rock, and Lakis's face falls faster than a lead balloon.
"Are you for real? Haven't you done enough for your father? You've bent over backward for him," Lakis throws his hands up, losing his cool.
Rita thinks for a second, like she's chewing on a tough piece of gum, then decides to lay it all on the table. "I don't trust anyone here. We need to make sure our inheritance doesn't vanish into thin air," she says, her voice as sharp as a tack.
A sly grin sneaks onto Lakis's face, like a fox who's just seen the henhouse open. "Well, if that's the case, I'm good with sticking around. Don't want anyone else getting their mitts on what's yours. You've gone through hell and back for your father, and you've earned that inheritance," he says, smooth as butter. He's careful not to let on that he's also eyeing the cash, like a kid in a candy store.
Rita beams, happy as a clam, relieved that Lakis is in her corner.

"Anthonios, do you think it's safe to go back home?" Maria asks, worry clear on her face. "What if Dion does something stupid?"
Anthonios rubs his chin, deep in thought. His face hardens, serious as a heart attack. "I hear you. So, what's our excuse for staying here?"
"We can say we need to take care of Dad," Maria suggests.
"Looks like there's a whole army of people taking care of Dad in this house now," Anthonios says, sarcasm dripping from his words. Maria knows exactly what he means—he's talking about Katherina and Rita.
"But we don't have to worry about your sister. I'm pretty sure she's after Dad's inheritance too," Maria adds, raising an eyebrow.
"I don't trust Dion. Sometimes, he's as clueless as a goat on roller skates," Anthonios mutters. "I think we better stay here," he finally decides, and Maria breathes a sigh of relief.
