"I'm going to the war, Y/N." Merriell said. He stood distant from Y/N with his head down. He didn't want to tell her about this because it would mean that he would have to leave her, again.

Y/N just stood and heard what he said. Does this mean he had to leave her and risk his life for the country?

"You're kidding, right?" Y/N asked him.

"I wish I am. But they need me there." Merriell said with a sad tone in his voice.

"We talked about this, Merriell. You're going to risk your life again. I can't afford to lose you. I almost lost you, what if you'll be gone forever--" Y/N blurted out and started breaking down. Merriell hugged her and stroked her hair, telling you to calm down.

"You won't lose me again, Y/N. I will come back to marry you and have our own family together. That's my promise to you." He pulled away and looked at Y/N deep in her eyes. Her eyes were already red from crying. He didn't like seeing her like this.

"That's a promise, Merriell. Okay?" Y/N said to be sure. Merriell gave her a smile of assurance and said,

"I promise. I will come back."

That was six months ago. Y/N never heard from him ever since he left for the war. In the span of six months, she has been nothing but worried sick for him.

She tried distracting herself from him for a while but she will never forget her fiancé. She lived in her parents' house ever since he left so that she wouldn't be alone. Every night, she would often cry to sleep because of how worried she is about him.

Meanwhile, on the battlefield, Snafu and the others were just sitting down and wait for the enemy to come. While Sledge was walking around the camp, he saw Snafu looking at something his hand.

"What you looking at?" Sledge asked and sat beside Snafu. He heard Snafu sighed and kept looking at the thing in his hand. It was a picture of Y/N.

"My fiancée. Dated her for five years. I proposed to her seven months ago before this." Snafu said.

"Must be tough for her right now, huh?" Sledge said while looking at the photo too.

"If none of this happened, we would've gotten married by now." Snafu said sadly.

Sledge placed a hand on Snafu's shoulder. They were really close because of this war and Sledge wants to comfort him.

"You're going to go home. We all will. After this fight." Sledge said, trying to comfort him. Snafu smiled at the thought of finally going home and be reunited with Y/N.

"If we're going home, I'm going to invite you to my wedding." Snafu said and Sledge chuckled. "You should."

Snafu still spent almost a month in war before going home. Luckily, he survived. He didn't want to go home already inside a coffin.

It was sunny Sunday morning. Y/N was out of the house to buy more food for themselves.

While she was in the market, she heard loud noises and shouting in the distance. She shrugged it off at first because people would always have big fights in the street. When she was about to leave, she heard clearly what the noises were.

"THE WAR HAS ENDED!"

People were shouting that to inform the people that the war has already ended. As soon as she heard that, she immediately remembered that Merriell was part of it.

Y/N quickly ran up to a person who was shouting the phrase too. "Is that true?" She asked.

"Yes! In fact, they're already in the train station." The guy she asked said and left to tell more people about the great news.

Y/N didn't want to waste time. She already wanted to see him. She rushed going to the train station even though it was already crowded.

"Merriell!" She panicky shouted her fiancé's name.

"Merriell!" She shouted again and again for his name but she couldn't find him. She wasn't going to give up until she finds him.

Snafu was still inside the train and was preparing his things. He was so happy that he is finally home. He couldn't wait to see Y/N.

"Ready to go?" He heard Sledge behind him. His abgs were already in his shoulders. Snafu smiled and together they went to get out of the train.

He still expected Y/N to be home and probably reading a book. He wanted to surprise her until Sledge asked him.

"Do you hear that?"

Snafu looked at him confusingly. There were so many people shouting so he couldn't tell what Sledge was hearing.

"I think I heard someone calling your name." Sledge said. "It was a lady's voice."

Snafu didn't want to believe at first until he heard someone calling him.

"Merriell!"

His eyes widen at the familiar voice. He turned back to where the voice came from.

"Y/N?" He mumbled to himself when he finally saw her. He dropped his things in front of Sledge and ran to where she was.

"Y/N!" He shouted her name when he was already near her. Y/N turned to him when she heard the voice and her eyes widen in shock. He's here.

Merriell

She immediately ran to him pushing off the people that was surrounding her. She jumped up to him hugged him and he caught her.

"You're finally home. I missed you so much." She said while hugging him tightly as if she didn't want him to let go.

"I missed you too, darling." Snafu said. He already felt like home while hugging her.

"I thought I lost you."

Snafu pulled away from the hug to see her face. He placed a hand on her cheek and looked at her deeply in her eyes.

"I promised you, Y/N." Snafu said in a low voice. He placed his lips to hers and they moved in sync.

He's already home in her arms.
