Anniversary
A sleepy Hana rubs her eyes and tries to sit up, but someone lightly pushes her back down.
"Shh. Get some more sleep, Hanny." Seol Hui says gently while pulling the cover back over Hana. "Young Ro and me are going to get breakfast for oppa so you can take it to him, okay?"
"But I wanna help..." Hana says drowsily.
"You came back in late, remember? Hye Ryung had to drag you back here when you tried to stay with oppa. Just sleep a little more."
"...Okay..." Hana whispers, falling back to sleep.
Seol Hui smiles and gives Hana a chaste peck on the forehead before leaving to join Young Ro.
Hana goes to the fourth floor and knocks on the door to the attic. When Soo-ho doesn't answer, she whispers his nickname. He opens the door and gives her a smile.
"Hmm... Nope that's not working!" She takes a step inside, and he closes the door behind her. "From now on, we're using a code that me and the girls always use. Two knocks, then three. Don't forget it, okay?" He nods and she goes to give him a hug. "Good! Happy anniversary, my old man!"
He puts his hand on his chest, playfully acting offended. "Old?
"Well, you're seven years older than me so...that makes you old!" She teases him and giggles as he starts kissing all over her face.
"Do you know what you want to do today for our date?" He asks her while she is setting up breakfast.
"Not really. I can just bring us dinner and snacks. We're together so that's all that really matters to me." She says, handing him a fork. "Roro and Gemmy got breakfast for us, so eat up!"
"Okay... Hana, could you pick up some batteries for me? I found a radio. I want to listen to the radio when I'm alone."
"Okay! I'll pick some up. Now eat up." She says, now handing him a cup of coffee.
"And some newspapers. My com- My friends are being chased too. I want to see what's happened to them. In case it's in the news."
"I'm bring some to you. So don't worry and eat."
"And can I know the structure of the dorm? For me to escape without getting caught I need to know where-" She takes a raspberry and shoves it into his mouth.
"Eat! Roro and Gemmy had to change their clothes twice and Ms. Oh had caught the both of them! They did all that for us because they wanted us to at least have an anniversary breakfast before I go to class! And here I thought you would love spending more time with me!" She whines.
"Alright, alright, alright. I'll eat." He eats the food. "And by the way, you know that I love spending time with you. I just thought by talking more, you would stay here longer."
"...Sneaky!" She giggles. "Oh! I bought you some more things!"
She grabs Young Ro's backpack and takes out more necessities such as towels, toilet paper, a toothbrush, toothpaste, water, juice, more snacks, a few books, a pillow, another blanket and a lot more things...
"Isn't this too much, Hana?"
"I have to take care of you! Does your wound feel any better?"
"It feels much better after you tending to it." He tells her, gently stroking her cheek with his thumb.
"Good! I'll take care of it again tonight before our date!" She says with a smile.
"Ah... Trying to get me to take off my shirt again, are you?" He teases her with a smirk.
"Wh... You... I am not!" Her whole face begins turning red, making him laugh. "Soo-ho! How about you take care of your injury yourself then?!"
She starts pouting and just as she gets up, he grabs her hand and pulls her back, forcing her to sit on his lap.
"Can an old man do this?" He asks, still smirking.
"Soosoo!" She squeals and blushes.
"Okay, okay. I'll stop teasing you." He then rests his head on her shoulder. "Hana... If I were to just disappear one day... How would you feel?"
"Huh? Where is this coming from?" When she doesn't receive an answer, she pokes his cheek. "Well, it would hurt but if you left me an explanation then maybe I could understand... Would you come back for me?"
He still doesn't answer her, just stares at her with a thoughtful look until he looks down at her lips. When he starts leaning in, someone knocks on the door.
"Yah! Open up!"
Hana gets up from his lap and hurries over to the door, opening it to reveal Hye Ryung.
"Teddy, why are you being so loud?!" Hana angrily whispers.
"Wait out here." Hye Ryung grabs Hana's arm and pulls her out into the hallway before stepping inside the room. "I need to talk to your boyfriend."
"Wh-" Hana is cut off when Hye Ryung closes the door in her face.
"We need to talk." Hye Ryung tells Soo-ho as she goes over to him and takes a seat by him. "You nearly gave us all a heart attack last night."
"Hye-"
"You got chased by the cops because they consider you a spy and chased you to the dorm. You show up in our room, unconscious and bleeding out on our floor after being shot. We had to hide you because not only do we consider you our friend, but we were thinking of what that would do to Hana if the cops caught you. If they had ended up torturing or even killing you, she would have been devastated. She acted like she wasn't too worried about you but we all could hear her crying last night! I was the one to hold her in my arms when it should have been you!" She snaps at him, making him look away. "Quit protesting! Pick something else to do if your economics major can't keep you busy! Singing, dancing, I don't care!"
"...I'm sorry."
"Soo-ho. I'm pretty sure that Hana has told you this, but she and I have been best friends for ten years. She already has a hard enough time with her parents. Sure, they love her but they're too controlling. When I used to set her up on dates, I made sure it was with a guy who would treat her right. But her parents would set her up with someone due to status, how much money they have and if it would help their family raise in ranks. And do you want to know that good thing that came out of it all? It was you." He looks back at her and she blinks back her tears. "That girl has always been smiling and putting smiles on others faces her whole life. But I've never seen her this happy ever since you came into her life... Don't ruin that."
Before he can say anything, she gets up and walks away. Hana watches Hye Ryung leave with a concerned look before heading back over to Soo-ho.
"Umm, is everything okay?" Hana asks in worried tone.
He gives her a small smile and makes her sit back on his lap. "She really does love you."
"Well, yeah. She loves you too but just won't say it out loud." She giggles as she squishes his cheeks. "My handsome Soosoo."
"Everyone, thank you so much for coming over and wishing me a happy birthday." Seong-sim says to her guests with a smile.
"My pleasure." Mi Hye, a close friend of hers says. "As a wife of a military officer, as a wife of a politician, and now a wife of a future presidential candidate, you're a role model for all of us here. It's an honor to be invited."
"Madam." The maid comes with a gift in her hand. "Your daughter will not be able to make it today, so she brought you your gift."
"Wait, did she already leave?" She is about to get up until the maid stops her.
"I'm sorry, madam but you won't be able to catch up with her."
Seong-sim hides his disappointment and nods. She then opens up her gift and gasps.
"Oh my! That is beautiful!" Mi Hye says.
"...It truly is." Seong-sim whispers.
The gift is revealed to be a collage of Hana's acting practices and performances.
"Hurry and put on your new shirt!" Hana says, covering her eyes.
"...Do you really want me to put it-"
"Soosoo!" She lightly stomps her foot. "Put it on or no fried chicken!"
"Okay, okay." Soo-ho laughs, finding her antics adorable. "You can look now. I'm decent."
"...Are you really?"
"Really." He answers, laughing once more.
She takes a quick peek and sighs, removing her hands from her eyes and going to sit next to him.
"I want to give you your present first. Close your eyes, please!"
As soon as he does as she says, he hears her rumbling through things and feels her slide something onto his finger.
"Now open!"
He opens his eyes and looks at his ring finger on his left hand to find a silver ring with half of a black heart on it. His eyes widened and looks at her with a surprised look.
"It's a promise ring. So I promise that I will always be by your side no matter what." She says shyly.
"...Hana-ya." He gently strokes her cheek with his thumb and lets out a small laugh. "I was wondering where the other half of it went. Close your eyes."
After she closes her eyes, he grabs his jacket and takes out a ring box. He takes out a similar ring that is also silver instead has half of a gold heart and diamonds embedded into it. He then slides it onto her ring finger of her left hand.
"Huh?" When she opens her eyes, they widened upon seeing the ring. "This..."
"You have become someone that is truly precious to me, and I couldn't imagine the rest of my life without you in it. So, no matter what happens, I will always find my way back to you... That is my promise to you."
"Sooho-ssi..." Her eyes glisten with tears and gives him a hug.
"If you don't mind me asking, why did you only get that one ring when it's a matching set?"
"Umm... Remember the day I was buying stuff for Teddy's birthday? I bought so much that I had enough money to only get that one ring." She answers before giggling. "But when you think about it, they found their ways back to each other!"
"Yes... They did, didn't they?" He smiles at her when pulling away. He gets up and offers his hand. "Dance with me."
She squeals and takes his hand. He helps her up and then wraps his arm around her waist beginning a slow dance. During their dance, an idea pops up into his head...
One way ticket, one way ticket
She begins giggling knowing what song he's singing.
One way ticket, one way ticket
One way ticket, one way ticket to the blues
Choo, choo, train a-trackin' down the track
Gotta travel on...
One Way Ticket by Eruption
He stops singing and pulls back from her a bit, staring at her with a loving expression.
"...Hana-ya... I lo-" He begins to say but is interrupted by someone using their secret knock on the door.
The couple glance at each other before heading over to the door. Hana opens it to reveal Hye Ryung.
"Teddy, why are you here?"
"I'll be quick. Since you two are celebrating your six-month anniversary of your first meeting and date, is there anything that I should be concerned about? Is there anything that I need to get for the two of you? Or more likely you, Soo-ho?" She asks, crossing her arms.
"...Like what?" He asks with a raised eyebrow.
"Protection." She answers bluntly.
"Hye Ryung!" Hana blushes and buries her face in his chest.
"Leave." He tells Hye Ryung as he wraps his arm around Hana's waist.
Their Promise Rings
So how was the chapter?
Gave a little backstory on Hye Ryung and why she's so protective of Hana. What did you think of her talk with Soo-ho?
Now honestly? I forgot Seong-sim's birthday was this episode. So I decided to throw a little bit of it in there. I was trying to figure out whether Hana should actually be there or not. She's still kinda on rocky terms with her parents. So I decided she leave her gift there before her mom could actually see her. But they will be having their reunion soon! And how was the gift because I was struggling on what she should get. But I feel it may play an impact on things later on.
What did you think of the date and the promise rings? He almost confessed but Hye Ryung, why?! Oh and I'm so #TeamSoona.
