Chapter 5

"We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents"

- Bob Ross

***********************

He waited for her at bus stop. He could sense that she is not happy and is feeling guilty. Her guilt is making him to feel remorse.

He knew he didn't force her to do it, but he took the responsibility. He felt as if he snatched her innocence.

When she got down form the bus, he got up and went towards her.

"Gauri?" he called her. She stilled for a moment but then resumed her walking.

He walked in long strides to walk beside her. Man, she is walking too fast.

She whispered once again without turning towards him, "I am not interested in giving another pose."

He shut his eyes in pain. She is afraid of him.

"I don't want to either." he clarified her thoughts.

She stopped walking.

"Then why are you following me?" she asked him suspiciously.

"I... I came to give this. Here." he extended his hand to give her a cheque of 50 grand.

She didn't lift her head up. After that incident, she felt ashamed of herself. Now she doesn't have the guts to look into his eyes.

"What is it? You paid me enough." he actually paid what she required. But she forgot about the last part of the dealing.

"I won the exhibition. As I promised I brought you 10% of the prize amount."

She wanted to refuse, saying that she doesn't need any money. But she remembered that, she refused the first time he asked saying that, she has enough money, but next day itself she was in front of his house begging for the same money.

But now she really didn't need money. She will be needing money to pay for her exam fee, after that she will get a job as an architect in some company. Then there won't be much of financial issues.

He could see her contemplating over the money. He took her hand and placed the cheque.

"You deserve it. You completed my art. Take it as me thanking you." he said.

Unknowingly he reminded the topic which she wanted to erase from her memory.

A traitorous tear fell from her eye. She nodded and placed the cheque in her bag.

"Thank you." she whispered and started to walk. Om understood that she needs time and space for herself. So he didn't follow her after that.

After one week he stood in front of her college itself. At sharp 5 in the evening she came out with her head bent down. She felt someone's gaze on her for which she turned to find him half sitting on his bike and looking at her keenly.

He waved his hand when she was looking shocked at him.

She turned around and walked in to the college.

Why is he stalking me? She thought. Last time he came to give money. What could be the reason for him to visit me again?

On seeing her bewildered look and her running towards her college gate he shouted,

"Hey, come on. I have been waiting for you almost 2 hours on this sunny day, you are leaving just like that." he trailed behind her.

"Because, I don't want to talk you." she kept walking.

"But I want too." he pulled her arm to stop her from walking before she could reach the security gate of college.

"What now?" she asked him looking annoyed.

"Umm... I want to take you out"

"What?" she shrieked.

"I mean, just like friends going out?" he corrected his previous sentence.

"We are not friends." she corrected his sentence.

"Yeah... but... Gauri, just forget about the past. Consider me as a good friend. Please." he pleaded.

"I am sorry." she said and walked off to bus stop and he didn't pester her after that.

Many days, has passed, still he was trailing behind her either infront of college or at the bus dropping point.

She knows he is not dangerous, but whenever she sees him, she starts to feel guilty and ashamed of herself.

So each day, she started to feel worse. To end all of them, she decided to speak to him.

"Fine, I will come with you. Only once" she put forth her condition.

"That's enough. I will pick you up tomorrow. Be ready." he said.

She woke up on hearing phone ringing. It was some unknown numbers. Usually she won't pick unknown numbers fearing of Kaali, but now all her debt are over. So she picked up the phone.

"Good morning Sunshine." he said.

She woke up suddenly. How does the jatadhari know my number? She thought and she kept a nick name for him before knowing his name.

"Sleepy head. Get down. I am waiting for in front of your hostel." saying that he cut the call.

Nerve of the jerk! she thought and left to get ready.

"Let's go." she got ready and stood in-front of him.

He looked stunned looking at her. Even though she dressed casually, he liked her attire. Many days, he has been following her, but never once her really looked at her. He cleared his throat, and started his bike.

"Get on." he gave her a helmet.

"Where are we going?"

"Have patience darling." he could imagine her rolling her eyes.

"I hope you don't kidnap me." she muttered.

"oh, please, I know you have pepper spray with you. So don't act innocent." he replied. He couldn't forget the first encounter with her. Truth to be told, he actually started to like her after that incident.

He stopped in-front of exhibition.

"Uh-huh." she mumbled.

"Why? You don't like exhibition?" he looked worried. He thought she would love this.

"Well, whenever I think of exhibition, all I could remember, Final destination movie, which involved the exhibition part." she shrugged.

He laughed. "Seriously?" he looked at her amused.

"Don't take that seriously. It will be fun. If you want we can skip the roller coaster." he winked.

"Thank god." she sighed in relief.

"Before that. Friends?" he extended his hand for hand shake.

She pretended to think for a while and giggled when he groaned.

"Okay. Friends." she shook her hands.

"Come let's go, Ri" he said.

"Ri?" she wondered.

"Friends keep nick names for each other. So I kept that one for you." he winked.

"Whatever jatadhari." she smirked.

"What?" he shrieked.

"Friends keep nick names for each other." she mimicked in his voice.

He faked glared at her, but inside he liked the way she called him. No one called him like that, well, truth is no one pretty close to him to call him with Nick names.

He shook his head in amusement and intervened her hand with his.

She froze with the connection, but she brushed it off, saying, 'it is for one day only.'

She has never been to exhibition. Exhibition didn't attract her that much, because she didn't have a company. So when she entered, it all seemed new to her.

But soon, her happiness was dissolved, when that jatadhari took her to the place he promised he wouldn't take.

"Where are you going?" she shrieked. She tried to pull her hands from him and run away, but he encircled his hands around her waist and pulled her towards it.

"No no no no." she started to whisper yelled as she didn't want to gather attention.

"Sorry, baby." he stuck his tongue out.

"No way I am riding this." she whispered yelled.

"Come on. It will be fun." he grinned.

He didn't leave her any choice, soon they were seated on the roller-coaster.

"If this roller coaster didn't kill us, I will definitely kill you." she muttered.

"Ha Ha." At beginning she was nervous. He caught her hand and squeezed it giving her little confidence she needed.

"Open your eyes Ri. Stop confining yourself " she opened her eyes which she kept closed.

"Enjoy the moment." Slowing the roller coaster got to the top, after few seconds it is going to get on the slope.

"Nothing is going to happen. Okay?" he whispered. Jerk! I would have happily sat in my room, who asked for this? She wanted to cry out. Before she could curse him, the roller-coaster entered the slope part and soon all started to shout, some in excitement like Om, some in bewilderment, like Gauri.

Only for first down slope, she was tensed, later, she started to enjoy herself. Now and then she looked at him. He turned to look at her, 'Enjoy' he mouthed.

Soon the roller-coaster ride came to end. Actually she started to love it.

"Liked it?" he asked. Thank god she didn't throw up. He remembered first time he rode this, he almost threw up on the seat itself.

"Loved it." she corrected.

"Ri, stop confining yourself. Don't let past experience to bind your present." he said which he wanted to tell after that incident.

She nodded her head, thinking he was referring past to the movie part. She felt better.

Next she saw a stall, where they hit the balls correctly, toys the people ask for would be awarded.

"I want that teddy bear." she pointed out.

"Great, go and play."

She glared at him. "Usually boys should play for the girl. Go and play for me."

"Aha, you watch too much of films, Ri. The boys do that to impress the girl. Do I have to impress you?" he raised his eyebrow teasingly.

She groaned in embrassement. "No thanks. I will play myself."

She threw the the ball once, but it hit none.

She sighed.

"Focus." he whispered behind her ear.

Suddenly it brought tingles to her. In that distraction she threw another, and it failed.

She came to know that she missed the target, when he groaned in frustration.

He kept his hands on either side of the waist and pulled her straight to the target. He directed her how to hit the target.

He kept on saying how to hit the target, but she got herself immersed in his scent and voice. Soon after roller coaster, she felt the attraction towards him growing. That's why she asked him to get her the teddy.

Somewhere corner, she wanted him to impress her, but what she forgot was that, he did impress her already.

"Got it?" he asked bringing her out of her dream zone.

She nodded furiously. Actually she didn't even hear anything.

Praying to all gods, she threw it. And finally she got it. It hit the target. Well it was purely luck.

She happily got the big teddy.

They passed many stalls and rode many rides. She enjoyed each one of them thoroughly.

She missed all of them. It may be a small thing, but these were the things she wanted to enjoy when she was young.

Thinking all these, happy tears formed in her eyes. Om noticed them, "Ri, what happened?"

"Nothing, it's happy one. Thank you, jatadhari. I loved the day." she said looking at his eyes first time without any fear or feeling ashamed.

"Why? Why you wanted me to go out." she asked him.

"I will tell you next time we meet." he said and drove off.

"What? Next time?" she mumbled. Even though she enjoyed his company, she is afraid that she might lose herself in him. And in the end she would be the one getting hurt.

"No, there mustn't be another time." she looked at the retreating figure with teary eyes.
