Here, Let Me See (Kevin)
I'm going to be stuck doing short one-shots while I try to get things at university settled. Thanks for sticking with me, darlings!
You groan and grab your eraser. Your hand furiously presses the rubber onto your notebook paper. You grumble under your breath as you go, not wasting any time as you wipe away the remnants and once again start the problem from scratch.
"Excuse me, would you like some help?"
You glance up in mild shock at the boy, no man, who was sitting at a computer about four feet from your corner. You instantly recognize how handsome he is, and a blush blooms across your cheeks at the thought. His warm, brown eyes captivate you, and you are brought back to reality only by the harsh sound of someone's heavy book colliding with the carpet. "Oh, uh, sure. Do you know any calculus, by chance?"
The man stands, leaving his books at the computer he was using. He is very tall, much taller than you, and you shy away a bit before catching yourself. "Yeah, I'm pretty decent in calculus. The first course offered, at least."
You sigh in relief. "That's what this is." You glare down at the empty paper. "I understand that I'm supposed to take the anti-derivative of this problem, but when I plug in the integral on which it's bound, I get a crazy answer."
The man stands before you now, and you move the paper so he can clearly see the problem you are supposed to solve. "Here, let me see. Did you plug the restrictions in as F(b)-F(a)?"
You nod. "I'll try working it out again." You scribble down the work you had been doing previously, and once it was complete, you gaze up at him with imploring eyes. "I don't know where I'm going wrong."
He bends over and gently picks up your paper. His long, dark fingers stand out against the white of the sheet, and you have an errant thought about how beautiful the contrast is. "Oh, you messed up when taking the anti-derivative. Instead of adding one to the exponent and then dividing by it, you brought it to the front as a form of multiplication."
You face-palm in exasperation. "Seriously? I did that? I can't believe I made such a stupid mistake."
"Hey, it wasn't a stupid mistake. You'll learn from it, won't you? So, it's not stupid. You probably became so frustrated when you didn't get the correct answer the first time that you made that sort of error. It happens a lot, especially with math. Take some time and cool off next time, maybe work on something different. I read a book."
You look up at him. "Thanks." Then, feeling bold, you ask him for his number. "You know, in case I need some more calculus homework and life advice."
He laughs at the slight jab but hands you his phone. "I'm Kevin, by the way."
"Y/N. It was nice to meet you, Kevin."
"Same. Maybe we can see each other again, without calculus."
"I think I could agree to that."
