chapter seven

He will forever be on my mind

"Happy Hogsmeade day!" Brandon was woken up by Toby hitting him with a pillow.

"Happy birthday to you too!" Brandon murmured, rolling over and pulling the covers over his head.

"It's not my birthday you idiot. Now get up!" Toby pulled the covers off of his friend and pushed him onto the floor.

"Toby!" Brandon yelled.

"What? You wouldn't wake up." Toby shrugged. "You have five minutes." He added, leaving the room.

Brandon groaned and got up, heading towards the bathroom, he hated being woken up, preferring to wake up in his own time.

When he finally made it into the common room, he found his friends waiting for him.

"You need an alarm clock." Rosa told him.

"He really does." Lily agreed.

"Yeah, okay. Can we go down to breakfast now?" Brandon grumbled.

"You slept through it, here's some toast." Helen said, handing it to the boy. He sighed.

"Thanks Helen. I guess we're going then?" Brandon sighed.

"You got that right." Helen nodded. The group left the common room and joined their classmates as they began the walk down to the village.

"Right, I need chocolate, so we're going to honeydukes." Lily announced.

She dragged them into the sweetshop and began scanning the types of chocolate. "Bran, I'm worried about you. Are you sure you're okay?" Lily asked him, the others were at the other side of the shop, so none of them would over hear what he told her. If he told her anything.

"I'm fine, I just need to talk to Danny." Brandon told her.

"This isn't like you Bran, what's bothering you?" Lily said. "You can't blame everything on missing him, what's wrong?"

"I'm bored Lily, I don't want to be in school anymore, I don't see the point. I leave school in two years and I have no idea what I want to do, I'll end up with a rubbish job because I'm not going to get good grades, and honestly I don't really care anymore." Brandon confessed.

"Seriously! Brandon you got all A's. chill out. Now come on, let's go shopping before we get the train." Lily told him, grabbing a few bars of chocolate off the shelf and heading to the counter, he followed her.

"Lily- "He began, but she cut him off.

"You better not be arguing with me." She warned him, he laughed and shook his head.

"course I'm not." He told her, rolling his eyes.

"I thought not." She laughed and payed for her chocolate, meeting the others outside the shop.

"You two took ages." Helen said with a sigh.

"I couldn't choose." Lily shrugged.

"Well now that you've finished, I need a new quill. So let's go." Rosa said, whilst not enjoying actual school work, she liked to make sure she had adequate stationary.

"What your obsession with stationary is, I will never know." Toby commented, Rosa narrowed her eyes at him.

"What your obsession with weird animals is, I will never know." She said back in the same tone, the group laughed.

"Peacock feather or eagle owl feather?" Rosa asked a minute or two later, holding up two quills.

"Um..." Helen began.

"You're right, both." She nodded.

"I worry about her." Toby said.

"I think worrying about each other is what helps us." Lily commented, slinging an arm around Brandon's shoulders.

"What's going on? What do you know?" Toby asked.

"Worrying makes sure we are all okay." Lily explained.

"What's with the long faces?" Helen asked as she and Rosa re-joined the group.

"Nothing, come on, let's get a butterbeer." Brandon said quickly.

They entered the three broomsticks to find it packed as ever. Hardly able to find a table, they somehow managed to get their butter beers and start a conversation, but Brandon wasn't really listening and Lily could tell that.

"Hey, you need to talk to someone about this." She told him gently. He sighed and nodded.

"I know; you keep telling me." He answered.

"I'm serious Brandon, you can't keep going on like this. It's stupid." She answered.

"I know." He answered.

"Look, talk to him about this okay, if you won't talk to me, talk to him. But you can't bottle all of this up." She told him.

"Lily, I know you're trying to help, but please stop." He told her. She sighed and patted him on the back.

"You're a nutcase." She told him.

Upon finishing their butter beers, the group walked to the train station together.

"So what do you want us to do?" Rosa asked with a frown.

"Cover for us, we're going to Dufftown, so he can talk to his boyfriend. If anyone asks where we are, make up an excuse, but make it plausible, we can't get caught." Lily told them.

"Are you sure about this. If you get caught- "Helen began, but Lily caught her off with a glance at Brandon, who had walked off down the platform.

"He needs this, we have try something to snap him out of this, I'm worried, this isn't like him." She said.

"How could Danny help?" Toby asked.

"Every time he gets like this, he says he missing Danny, and just missing him. He never says anything else. He never says what else is worrying him. He told me somethings, but not all." Lily answered.

"We'll do it." Rosa nodded.
"If this helps him, we have to try. How did we not notice?" Helen mused.

"We didn't look." Toby answered.

"Thanks guys, I hope this works." Lily hugged them.

"We'll cover for you." Rosa nodded.

The train pulled up, Lily walked over to Brandon and took his hand. Together the two got on the train, Lily waving goodbye to their friends.

Upon finding a table, the two sat opposite one another.

"Bran, we did it." She told him. He managed a small smile.

"We did it." He agreed.

"Hey, you'll see him soon." She told him.

"He keeps asking to meet my friends. I... I upset him when I told him I didn't want him to meet you. I didn't mean too, it slipped out. I tried to make things better, but I made it worse. I hated seeing him upset." Brandon said.

"Why are you telling me this?" Lily asked with a confused expression.

"I love him Lily, not like I've loved anyone else before." Brandon answered.

"I know you do." She answered.

"Lily do you think I'm crazy?" Brandon asked.

"No, of course not." She answered with a frown. "Why?"

"You keep saying you want to help me." He answered.

"I do want to help you, you've been really... different lately, all sad and mopey. I just want you to be happy again." She answered. The confusion on his face shocked her a bit.

"I-I'm fine." He stuttered, it seemed he had doubted that anyone had noticed.

"I'll let Danny be the judge of that."
