The Girl with the flaming red hair walked the corridors of the Hogwarts Express, she passed a compartment with several Slytherins in it, the one with long greasy black hair looked up at her.
The girl's bright green eyes connected with the boy's sad and pleading black ones. The girl broke eye contact, stuck her chin in the air and walked past the sliding glass door, she could see the boy's face fall slightly, it hurt her to do this, but she didn't know how else she was expected to react.
She walked past several more compartments, all filled, but with the wrong people. She heard the sliding of a glass door behind her, she ignored the footsteps that followed her; but she couldn't avoid the hand on her shoulder or the pale face next to her.
"Lil" the greasy haired boy said, his voice quiet and hurt.
"No Sev" Lily shrugged his hand off of her shoulder.
"Please Lily?" Severus persisted, speeding up to match her ever increasing step rate.
"No Sev!" Lily said again, more forcefully this time, her voice raising slightly "I don't want to talk to you right now".
He took a deep breath "Lily, I'm sorry, I've told you that a thousand times, please forgive me?" Severus pleaded.
"Look, Sev, I'm sorry too, sorry that you chose those filthy toe-rags over me, sorry that you called me what you did, sorry that I ever thought you were my friend" The last sentence hurt him more than anything, Lily knew this too; it hurt her so much to face what had happened.
"Please, give me a chance, you know I never meant what I said" He pleaded; he felt like a bullet had penetrated his stomach, he felt sick to the core, he knew he had stuffed up, but he didn't know he had stuffed up so bad that Lily would say that to him. Another glass door had opened, closer to them, neither of the two noticed this though.
"Sev, I gave you a chance, hundreds of chances, you had been horrible to me before, and I let it slide, but you blew it," tears were welling up in her eyes "you really did, and if you care so much about me right now, why did you say that? Why did you chose those rude bums over our friendship? Why Sev?"
Severus was stumped "Please just let me fix this" he tried again.
"No Sev, I don't think you'll ever be able to fix the hole you made, please, I don't want to talk to you right now" Lily's vision had become blurry with tears, she knew that if she blinked, one would fall, but she blinked anyway.
"Li-" Severus attempted to say, but was cut off by a voice behind him.
"She said she didn't want to talk to you right now. Snivellus" James smirked, Severus turned around, giving Lily enough time to slip away and into an empty compartment.
"Nobody asked you Potter" Severus snapped, spitting out the words.
"But Lily doesn't want to talk to you, maybe you should listen to her for a change, it won't hurt you" James shrugged, turning around and leaving Severus standing in the hall. Snape hated Potter, but he did have a point, Severus turned and walked back to his compartment, he didn't try to find Lily.
"Why'd you leave?" Mulciber asked, aggression mixed with confusion lined his voice.
"I, I was talking to-".
"That Mudblood?" Mulciber cut him off accusingly, "What do you even see in her? She isn't worthy of anything" He sneered.
"Yeah" Severus paused "I guess you're right" Severus agreed with him half-heartedly, and distantly. Deep down he didn't mean a single one of those five words, and longed that he could take back every hurtful comment he had ever said to Lily Evans.
