Sonic jumps and grabs tails by the hands, the fox spins his tails as fast as he can and carries the hedgehog out of the aircraft.

"Good luck!" Cream shouts.

Sonic salutes them off with a confident smirk on his face. As they're flying up Tails, squeezes Sonics hand tightly, Sonic notices this and looks up at Tails, he didn't usually squeeze the way he did so it prompted him to ask how his little brother was doing.

"Tails... Are you okay?" Sonic asks.

"Huh?... Yeah, I'm fine! I just don't wanna drop you that's all!" Tails assures, looking down at Sonic, there's an uneasy grin on his face and that makes Sonic worry even more.

"We've done this a thousand times buddy, you've never dropped me! It'll be fine, so uh can you ease up on my hands please?"

"O-Oh sorry" Tails says, the fox loosens his grip on Sonic's hands a little.

As they get closer to the ship, badniks start to converge on them. Sonic notices and looks up at Tails who nods, Tails swings him at one of the badniks and Sonic starts smashing into them like a ping pong ball, when he's done he jumps towards Tails and the fox catches him and continues carrying him to the side of the ship.

Tails sets the hedgehog down on the ships hull and almost immediately the two are surrounded by drones which start firing lasers at the two. The two dance around avoiding the attacks, and smashing the badniks, Sonic hitting them all at a pretty rapid pace... It goes on for almost ten minutes, a never ending swarm of badninks attacking the two over and over again.

"Ahhh, we don't have time for this" Sonic shouts. The hedgehog turns into a ball and starts spinning as fast as he can before launching himself into the side of the ship, there's an explosion and Sonic comes in flying into a metal wall.

Tails reaches into his bag and tosses a few metal orbs at the drones. Smoke errupts from the tiny balls providing them with an opertunity to escape. Robotnik who's watching on a small feed shifts uncomfortably as the drones move into the smoke, the two made like bandits and disappeared, when he sees they aren't there he bangs his fist on the control console in fury.

"Find them! They're an ever growing thorn in my side and I'm tired of it!... And when you find Sonic, destroy him!"

The drones hovering around the room all exit the room and fly through the halls, Robotnik smiles with sinister intent behind those glasses of his. One way or another he would try and defeat Sonic and as swiftly as possible.

Sonic groans as he tries to rise to his feet, when he smashed the hole in the side of Robotnik's ship he hit his head when he blasted threw the metal, he can't stand straight, Tails sees Sonic stumbling around and catches him before he falls to the ground.

"Sonic! Are you ok?!" Tails asks frantically.

"Yeah buddy, I'm okay... Ngh"

"You don't look okay..."

Sonic manages to stand back up straight and looks down at Tails, "See... I'm good"

Tails squabbles nervously as Sonic shakes his head. The hedgehog starts running around the base, Tails follows him around like a helicopter.

Halfway to the control room they encounter the swarm of drones Eggman had sent to destroy them. Sonic extends his arm towards Tails and the fox hands him a glowing ring, the drones fire their lasers at the two. Sonic jumps around smashing the machines into pieces.

Tails rumages around in his bag while ducking and dodging laser beams, he finally finds what he's looking for in the form of a decent sized blaster he built, the weapon just as big as a pistol.

Tails jumps away from one of the drones and turns turns a nob on the weapon before pulling the trigger, a laser beam hits one of the drones and Tails moves the laser to the left so he can destroy the other ones which burst into sparks and fall to the ground. Sonic finishes off the last drone by ripping off its laser blaster and smashing it into the top of the machine which erupts in smoke and crashes into a wall, the hedgehog rolls across the ground prompting Tails to finish off the other drones by swiping the blaster around and cutting up the other machines.

Sonic pants heavily and looks at Tails who turns off his weapon and rushes to Sonic's side to check on how his big brother was doing.

"Take it easy!" Tails says.

"Grah, not an option!" Sonic says, then he forces himself off the ground.

As much as Tails loved how persistent Sonic could be in times like this. He did not like when the hedgehog pushed himself like this, and it wasn't the first time Sonic had been like this either. Suddenly one of the damaged drones rises up from behind Tails, Sonic notices, grabs Tails and swings around shielding him from a laser that strikes Sonic in the lower section of his back. He shouts in pain as Tails looks in horror at Sonic groans and collapses to the ground, still shielding Tails.

"Sonic!" The fox shrieks.

Then his eyes divert to the drone which falls back down to the ground in the pile of broken metal.

"Tails, I'm okay... Just go" Sonic wheezes.

Tears start to well in his eyes as Sonic coughs some more. He squeezes Sonic tightly and sets the first aid kit he had in his bag next to him. Sonic gives Tails a weak yet full spirited grin.

"I'm giving you medical attention first"

Something was building up inside Tails as he sprayed Sonic's wound, it was rare for him to feel like this, to have all these aggravated thoughts in his head, for this helpless feeling to get worse and worse. His chest felt tight as he squeezed his fists tightly as his blood boils in rage. The fox covers his wound and sets Sonic against a wall, he starts to walk away from Sonic toward the control room.

"Hey buddy... Are you alright?" Sonic asks.

"Yeah... I'm fine" Tails responds.

"W-Where are you going?" Sonic questions.

"To finish our mission" Tails answers with barely any emotion in his voice at all.

He continues to walk away as Sonic wonders why his mood suddenly shifted like that, "Somethings off about him..."

Doctor Eggman is in his lab running around flipping levers and pushing buttons. Behind the doctor is a glass container full of crystals his badninks retrieved for him. The doctor laughs to himself as he pulls the final lever. Just as he runs over to the main control panel it explodes sending pieces of metal all over the place and throwing him into a wall.

"Huh?! what the-" He starts, then he sees a figure emerge from the flames, it's Tails and there's unbridled rage dancing like fire in his eyes.

"Aww, wheres Sonic?! It's no fun without him at the party!" He asks with an evil chuckle.

"He's suffering from burn wounds... Because of you!" Tails snarls.

"Haha! Looks like your big blue friend won't make it here at all to stop me! So what're gonna do? Come at me swinging like a pathetic baby? Because that's all you can do Tails! You're a pathetic nobody..."

Tails raises the blaster and pulls the trigger, firing a laser at Robotnik's leg. The doctors shouts in pain and crumples over, the doctor was so focused on getting Tails to breakdown and start crying that he failed to see how livid the fox boy was at the moment. His confident grin turned into a fearful frown as the sound of the fox walking towards him and the sound of the fire crackling filled the air.

"Now now Tails! Let's talk about this-" The doctor groans.

"Talk?... Talk?!"

Tails fires a bolt at his arm making him shriek In agony once more as he gets closer to the doctor. Robotnik is now actually shaking with legitimate fear as the fox gets in his face. Eggman gulps as he holds his bleeding arm. Tails moves back from him and starts observing the machine he built.

"Tell me Eggman, what does this do?" Tails asks.

"I-It allows you to travel between time and space. Y-You can essentially travel between dimensions with it, g-go to different realities... Please Tails, don't hurt me!"

The doctor groans and winces as Tails leans down directly in front of his face.

"You. Hurt. Sonic..." Tails snarls pressing the tip of the blaster on Robotnik's cranium.

"I've hurt that blue rat many times before! Why is it now your suddenly acting like a psycho?!"

An eerie lust filled smile appears on Tails face as he looks deeper into Robotnik's fear filled eyes, "Isn't it obvious... I'm in love with this 'rat'... And I'm fucking sick and tired of letting people, like you, hurt him for their selfish goals. I will do whatever I have to in order to protect Sonic. And if that means killing you... Then it's an option"

Tails giggles, enjoying the horrified look on Robotnik's face.

"Y-You're insane!" Robotik shouts.

Tails puts his finger on the trigger of the blaster, "Now..."

The fox presses his foot down on the wound on Eggmans leg, he lets out a pained shriek as Tails continues to laugh at his suffering.

"Now... How many times has Sonic been injured while fighting you? Oh right I remember now... 695 times, 78 of those times were serious ones, and the others weren't as life threatening... Tell me Eggman... How does it feel to be attacked"

The doctor looks up at Tails, his eyes are screaming for Tails to spare his life at this point thats how bad it is, "Please Tails! I'll do anything, please j-just let me live"

"Hmmmmm"

The doctors despair grows even more as Tails thinks about his offer. The fox smirks and looks down at him.

"Well, if you can maybe build a portable version of this interdemensional device you made, sure I'll let you retreat" Tails says shrugging.

"That's nearly impo-"

Tails shoots next to Eggmans head making the doctor flinch, "Okay! Okay! I'll try my best, relax!"

"Get to work!" Tails commands coldly.

Eggman rises to his feet shakily and goes over to his design table so he can build what Tails told him to, Eggman works for hours as Tails watches over him closely, Tails sits on a chair, legs on the table, blaster in hand as he watches the desperate doctor work meticulously on the portable dimension jumper. By the time the doctor is nearly done with his request, he's lost quite a lot of stamina and blood. There's a chime in the foxes ear so he pushes a button on his goggles.

"Tails! I can't reach Sonic is everything okay?" Amy's voice shouts.

"Yeah! Everything's fine, Sonic got injured pretty bad but he's okay" Tails explains in his normal tone of voice.

"Did you guys catch Egghead yet?!" Knuckles shouts in one ear.

"About that... He's dead" Tails responds as if he was distressed by his death.

"What?!" Amy shouts.

"No way!" Knuckles screams.

Eggman gulps nervously and reaches for an electron net under the table. As he reaches for parts, unaware to him though Tails sees him do this.

"Sonic's not gonna like that..." Shadow says.

"Anyway, we've got as many of the city's citizens out as possible! Tell us when you have more updates! Good luck Tails!" Amy says cheerfully.

"Good luck to you guys too!" Tails says, then he pushes the button on the side of his goggles and immediately turns to Eggman who is aiming a net launcher at Tails, the fox however is swift with his attack and fires a laser bolt at Robotnik's right lung. The doctor slumps on the desk and collapses to the floor dropping the net launcher as Tails walks towards him slowly and fires another bolt at his other chest cavity.

"Did you really think I wasn't going to pay attention to your movements" Tails says with a chuckle.

Robotnik's lungs are burning, it's agonising, all he can do is scream and wheeze in pain as he coughs on the floor, Tails watches with no remorse, no emotion, no regret as Eggman rolls around on the floor. The fox grins like a psychopath as Eggman takes his final breaths on the cold hard ground.

"Well played Tails... Guh... Well... Played..."

Eggmans hand drops to the floor as Tails looks down at the corpse on the floor while putting the blaster pistol back in his bag. Tails goes to the work bench and picks up the machine Eggman started to create and stuffs it in his bag as well as the blueprints on his desk, then he smashes the glass container with the crystals and puts some of the shards in his bag.

Tails hears footsteps approaching so he pulls the blaster and uses the laser to cut a piece of the cieling above Robotnik's corpse, the pieces fall on top of him covering most of his body. He uses the blaster to trash the lab then he slides the blaster towards Robotnik's corpse, when the footsteps stop he turns to the doorway, standing there bandaged up was Sonic. Tails runs over to him and takes him by his shoulder.

"There you are-"

Then Sonic sees what happened to Robotnik and stares in horror for a second.

"What... What happened to him"

"We had a scuffle, he accidentally fired his blaster at the cieling and the debris fell on top of him, I managed to get out of the way before it fell on top of me" Tails says, tearing up like a scared child.

Sonic buys his act and embraces him while looking over at Eggman under the pile of metal and debris. He hated the doctor but he never wanted him to die so it made him upset, distraught, agitated to see him laying there ok the ground. Meanwhile, Tails, still holding onto Sonic, smirks... He always wanted to off Doctor Robotnik, he hated the fact that he would constantly ruin their outings together or just do anything he would usually do like invading a country or kidnapping Sonic.

Suddenly, alarms started going off. The fire from the console Robotnik made was starting to spread. Sonic realises quickly what's happening and scoops Tails up in his arms, bridal style, his heartbeat jumps up and his face turns red. Sonic runs out of the lab and sees the fire spreading even more now.

"Warning: Fire detected, initiating lockdown protocol"

"That's not good" Sonic says, then he looks behind him and sees the doors closing behind him so he starts running as the doors close behind him. It's close as the blue blur ducks under one last door. When Sonic sets Tails down, he looks around the room and sees they're in the control room, he decides to walk around for a moment. Tails runs to the controls and starts pushing buttons, the first thing he does is turn off the laser which he does by pulling a lever back, then he shuts the vent doors releasing the badniks.

Sonic looks outside and sees one of the ships engines combust. The alarms start going off as Tails continues to try and steer the ship away from the city so the can crash it in the ocean.

"We're cutting it kinda close!" Sonic says frantically.

"Hang on!" Tails shouts back.

The fires continue to dance around outside on the engines. Tails lets out a grunt as he takes a hard right and puts the giant ship in a nose dive. Sonic really wishes he hadn't chosen the ocean, but it was much too late now.

"Hold on to something!" Tails shouts as the ocean gets closer and closer.

Sonic grabs hold of a railing on the side of the ship. He was hoping the ship wouldn't go too deep into the ocean when they made impact, he holds on tightly as if it's life itself. The two watch as the ocean gets ever so close. Everything is shaking violently as their decent becomes faster and faster. The foxes heart is beating out of his chest, with fear of course, but it looks like Sonic is even more terrified as they get closer to the large body of water.

The blue gets closer and closer until... Impact! Tails gets thrown over the control console and onto the deck below, Sonic gets tossed into one of the ships windows with so much force it cracks then he lands on top of a damaged computer groaning in pain. Tails vision is hazy and unsteady as he slowly climbs back to his feet, using a computer station as support. Sonic grumbles, there's something wet touching his face, so he opens his eye and sees he's in an ever growing puddle of water, his eyes go wide with fear and he jumps to his feet almost immediately.

"Tails! Please tell me we have an exit plan!" Sonic screams.

"I have one! But you're not gonna like it!" Tails shouts back.

"What's that?!" Sonic shouts back, confused.

Tails takes three metal balls from his bag and pushes the buttons on them. Sonic instantly sees that they're detonating charges and his nervousness only heightens.

"Are you crazy?!" Sonic screams, the hedgehog jumps on top of a control panel.

"You got any other ideas?!" Tails shouts back.

Sonic runs to the door and tries to open it, he puts all his strength into to his fingers, almost desperately trying to pull it open, but it doesn't budge... At all. He looks back at Tails, the fear growing in his eyes, the fox takes two small plastic objects from his bag and tosses one to Sonic.

"What am I supposed to do with this?!" Sonic ask.

"Put it over your nose and mouth!" Tails answers, doing as he instructed Sonic to do and covering his nose and mouth with the breather he made.

Sonic rushes over to Tails.

"How does it work?" Sonic asks.

"It allows us to use Oxygen in the water so we can breathe" Tails explains.

Sonic attaches the breather to his face, Tails a second later. At this point, the water was up to their knees. Tails takes a moment to aim and tosses the charges at the window, then he grabs the detonator in the bag and without hesitation presses down on the button. The explosion is deafening and the water rapidly floods the room. Sonic's stress grows worse as the water starts to rise above his neck.

Tails sees how unravelled Sonic is and swims over to him taking him by the arm. Sonic holds on tightly as he uses his tails to propel them upwards, as the two are rising they see the giant airship sink deeper into the dark. Sonic starts to lose his grip on Tails arm and almost let's go of Tails arm, when he notices this he frantically starts grabbing onto the fox again and ends up wrapping his arms around his lower chest. Tails face turns red, his heart is on fire, he wants to scream excitedly but he knows it's not the time or place to do so.

As they continue to swim up the large pieces of debris from Robotnik's airship sinking around them and even more floating at the top. Finally the two reach the top, Sonic is still holding on to Tails desperately trying to keep himself afloat.

"You're gonna sink us both, grab onto a piece of debris or something" Tails says.

"S-S-Sorry" Sonic shivers.

There's static on Tails microphone and then Amy's frantic voice could be heard, "Sonic! Tails! Are you two alright?! Answer me!"

Tails pushes one of the buttons on his goggles and answers Amy, "This is Tails... We're okay"

"Yes! Thank goodness your okay!" She says excitedly, "Where's Sonic?! Did he make it?!"

Tails growls and rolls his eyes, he expected her to wonder if the blue blur was okay.

"Yeah... Sonic's okay" Tails says, trying to hide his distate for Amy's obsession with the blue blur.

"I knew he could... Oh I mean, you two could do it! So where are you guys anyway?"

"We're in the ocean, just off the coast. I'm about to fire a flare, that will show you guys our location" Tails answers.

"Gotcha" Amy answers.

Sonic grabs a metal sheet floating in the water and climbs onto it frantically. Tails grabs on to another piece of metal and pulls himself on top, he rustles around in his bag for a flare gun. The Fox points it up in the air and fires it.

Tails looks up at the clouds in the sky. Sonic slowly starts to relax now that he's out of the water, but because he's still surrounded by H²O he's still jumpy. Finally the jet arrives hovering above the two as they lay adrift on the thin sheets of metal. Knuckles tosses the two a ladder, Sonic jumps onto the ladder like a distressed cat and starts climbing it, Tails follows behind him climbing up and inside of the aircraft. When the two are inside they breathe a sigh of relief.

The jet starts to rise. As they rise, pieces of metal and other debris could be seen floating in the water. Some of the pieces were on fire, others were bent up or cracked. The hatch closes under them as they start to fly back to Westside Island. Amy comes down the steps and gives Sonic a hug, she's squealing excitedly while Sonic groans annoyed with her invading his personal space. Cream follows behind Amy and wraps a towel around him and Tails.

"Thanks" Tails says.

"No problem" Cream says tapping her foot on the ground shyly.

"I'm so happy your okay!" Amy shouts, shaking Sonic around gently.

"Yeah, I know Ames, but can you get off me?!" Sonic says.

Tails snarls quietly, seeing Amy get touchy with Sonic really bothered him, it made his chest swell with rage, Cream notices Tails' snarling at Amy but decides not to say anything about it.

Once the girls have gone to leave them be, Sonic and Tails are the only ones sitting in the lower deck of the jet as it soars towards their base, it's quiet so Tails decideds to try and make conversation...

"Hey Sonic..."

Sonic looks over at Tails who looks sad.

"I'm sorry for scaring you down there. I know you hate water and I really should have thought about another place to bring the ship down"

"It's okay Tails. What matters is that we stopped Eggman and saved the citizens in the city" The hedgehog says, then he frowns again, "I just wish... He didn't end up dead..."

"Yeah, same..." Tails answers looking down at the floor.

"But then again, the doctor was always stubborn. Probably would escape the first chance he got if anyone else caught him. But I could kinda tell he wanted to change himself for the greater good. Heh heh, too late now huh?"

"Yeah..."

A smirk appears on the fox boy's face.

"...I think he could have changed too"

In the end, Sonic and the team were awarded for saving the city in the form of medals and box full of money. The heros spent the next few months helping to rebuild the city and restore it to what it once was. The authorities managed to recover Robotnik's body and his supposed weapon from the sunken air fortress and the heros gave him a funeral.

Tails jumps onto his bed. For a while he had been thinking about the moment Sonic grabbed onto his waist, that moment along with so many other ones would make the fox feel warm inside, his heart buzzed and his face turned red, it would be his favourite memory so far. He grins excitedly as his eyes slowly begin to close.

"...I love you Sonic" He whispers.
