A month has passed by since Sonic and Tails had their incident on the beach. Tail's dreams of Sonic were slowly beginning to get more and more unusual, the weirdest one he had was him and Sonic holding hands and laughing together in a field of flowers, just as the two starts to inch closer, lips puckered as if they were about to smooch... The fox sits up in his bed, breathing heavily.

He gets up and goes to the lavatory to wash his face. The fox looks up in the mirror and groans, he goes back to his room and sits on the bed. He looks at the picture he took shortly before running into Sonic again and he rolled back over on his bed so he could try and get some sleep.

The fox does his best to try and sleep peacefully, but as he sleeps that night, he has yet another steamy dream involving the speedy blue hedgehog. This time Sonic is holding him in his arms and he has a rose in his mouth, Tails leans closer to him as if the two are about to smooch but then he flails around and snaps out of his dream, falling on the floor in the process, the fox sits up and groans.

"...Why can't I stop thinking about him" He grumbles to himself, "It's not like I like him or anything. He's... Just someone I really want to be friends with...... Right?"

The next morning comes, Tails wakes up, he was finally able to sleep. But these thoughts of Sonic wouldn't leave his head, he kept imaging him and the hedgehog together doing all sorts of romantic and raunchy things. Eventually these thoughts began to get in the way of his everyday life. Whenever he went into town he'd constantly think about what Sonic's doing. What if he was in trouble? What if he needed him to save him again? What if he was hurt?

He was so busy thinking about him one day that his walked into a tree, he falls backwards and drops the bag of food he's carrying. He grumbles and starts picking up the packages and stuff from off the floor, once he's collected everything he continues walking back to his house. When he gets inside, he sees a letter on the floor and picks it up.

Tails brings all his food to the kitchen and sits down on the couch to open the letter. He tears open the envelope and sees that Sonic had written him...

Hey! I wanted to hang with you but you weren't home. If you wanna come and talk, I'll be in the mountains! See ya then!

Tails can barely control his excitement, he jumps off the couch, "Yes!"

Before leaving, the fox takes a bath, brushes his teeth and cleans out as much of his fur as he can. When he's ready, he puts some food in a bag and goes out the door, it's a long walk to the mountains but when he gets there, Sonic is there sitting watching the birds fly around, the wind blowing his quills around as if they're long lucious locks of hair.

"Sonic!" Tails shouts, waving excitedly.

Sonic turns and waves back to him, Tails starts making his way up towards him, smiling excitedly. However as he gets close to Sonic, a giant oval shaped machine emerges from behind him. The Fox's excited smile turns into a fearful frown, Sonic is confused when he sees Tails turn fearful, he turns around too.

The two watch as the giant robot towers over them. A compartment opens and a claw swingings right at Tails! Sonic notices and shoves Tails out of the way... The mechanical arm strikes him and sends him tumbling down the mountain, he shouts as he falls down into the misty abyss.

"Sonic!" Tails shrieks, distraught. He couldn't believe what was happening.

His chest tightens as he looks down at the misty clouds below the peak where he stood, he looks back at the giant oval shaped robot.

"... Ha ha ha ha! Now that the annoyance is out of the way! Why don't we have a little chat!" A voice says from the machine.

Tails didn't pack anything to defend himself with so he couldn't destroy the machine like he did to the one on the beach, the only thing he had was some food he was going to share with Sonic and a small device used to jumpstart machines... He was utterly defenseless.

A small compartment opens in the middle of the machine and a round figure makes itself seen, he steps into the light of the sunset, it looks to be a person, wearing a red coat, circular shaped glasses, black trousers and boots, white gloves glasses and a peculiar light brown mustache accompanied by a rather strangely pointed nose, from behind him are a few drones, with their weapons aimed at Tails.

"Your little toys pack quite the punch. You really outdid yourself when you made those, I must say!"

"What did you do to Sonic!" Tails shouts, anger makes itself known in his voice.

"Oh don't worry about him! We're here to talk about you" The man says extending his arms out in triumph.

Tails backs away from him as he stops walking. He's standing right in front of him, the man looks down at the antsy little fox and smirks.

"My name is Doctor Ivo Robotnik! And I see you're quite the young little genius. So I have a proposal for you, you show me how to build those little explosive balls, and I can teach you how to build all sorts of gadgets and toys. You'll be able to build to your heart's content! Whaddya say?"

The fox looks down at the cliff Sonic got thrown off from, then he looks back at the doctor who's smiling like he's the devil.

"Keep dreaming!" Tails screams, the defiance in his face makes Robotnik twicth.

Robotnik's grin turns into a dissatisfied frown, puts his hand on his face, and laughs a little before looking back at Tails, "You're quite the loyal dog aren't you?"

Tails stands his ground and gets ready to jump back off the mountain, then he feels something hit him in the neck. He grunts and pulls the object out... A tranqulizer dart. He groans and drops the dart on the ground.

"You would have made a splendid assistant, but of course... The hedgehog touched your heart that much didn't he?" Robotnik says, walking slowly in a circle around the fox.

Tails can feel his legs getting lighter, his vision becoming more wavy as Robotnik lets out a triumphant yet villainous laugh. Tails starts to get exhausted until eventually he gives out and falls to the ground. He's out, before the drones can pick him up and drag him into the ship, a blue blur flies upwards from the side of the cliff where Sonic had been thrown off. Robotnik looks up, somewhat fearful of what he's looking at. The blue ball strikes all the drones causing them to either crash or explode, then it lands behind Tails... It's Sonic, and he's pissed.

"You'll never learn won't you?" He says.

Robotnik grabs a small blaster from his belt, Sonic runs up to him, grabs the weapon and tosses it off the mountain. He attacks him with a walloping punch and sends the doctor across the ground.

"Sonic" The doctor says in a somewhat spiteful tone.

"You better get out of here before I destroy that fancy ship of yours" Sonic says as he picks up the sleeping fox.

"Don't worry Sonic, I'll be back" The doctor says with a chuckle.

"Sure you will... Eggman" Sonic says.

Robotnik rushes back inside of his ship and the door closes, Sonic watches as the giant machine lifts off from the mountain and flies away into the sunset, he takes a deep breath and looks down at Tails.

"Hey! Tails?! Are you alright?!"

Tails groans, Sonic puts his hand on his forehead, he has a fever, his breathing is heavy, and his arm and face are bruised, "What did Eggman do to him..."

Sonic picks up his bag and runs down the mountain back to the foxes home in the forest. When he gets inside he puts the bag of food down on his table and takes Tails to bed, covering him with his blanket and addressing the wounds on his arm and face, then he goes to the bathroom and looks through the medicine cabinet until he finds the medicine he's looking for, then he runs downstairs and gets some berries from a jar.

Sonic spends a bit of time preparing a concoction for Tails and comes back to his room. Tails groans and weakly looks up at Sonic who's holding the bowl containing the medicine.

Sonic opens Tails' mouth and slowly pours the mixture in his mouth, when it's all gone he puts the bowl on the dresser.

"You're gonna be okay Tails... I'm not gonna let anything happen to you" Sonic says.

The hedgehog sits down on the chair by the desk and watches him for a moment. Tails' breathing had relaxed at this point which was a good sign. After a bit, Sonic falls asleep in the chair.

In the morning, Tails had recovered mostly from Robotniks attack, he opens his blue eyes and looks around. He expected to be in Robotniks lab... But he's at home, he looks around and sees Sonic sleeping on the chair across from the bed.

"He's okay... That's a relief" Tails says.

Tails looks at Sonic sleeping in the chair a bit more, something is happening inside him, he doesn't know what it is, after all it's the first time he's ever truly felt this emotion. Biting his lip softly, he approaches Sonic slowly and steadily as the hedgehog continues to sleep on the chair. He reaches out and slowly takes the sleeping hedgehog by the hand. He slowly begins to move in... But then Sonic squints his eyes and they open, Tails immediately moves his hand from his and turns away from Sonic... But he ends up looking back at him again.

The first thing Sonic notices when he wakes up is a blushing Tails, sweating nervously. He has no idea why Tails face is red, but he shrugs it off.

"Hey! You're up! How are you feelin?," Sonic asks, then he yawns loudly.

"Better..." Tails responds, rubbing his hands together.

"That's great!" Sonic says, then he goes up to the fox and ruffles him on the head, "I'ma go make you something to eat, you should get some rest"

Sonic comes back a little bit later with some instant ramen and water for Tails.

"This has to be the strangest thing I've had for breakfast" Tails says, crossing his arms.

"Cut me some slack, I suck at cooking alright?" Sonic retorts.

Tails laughs weakly, "Just give me the bowl"

Sonic smiles back and gives him the bowl of ramen. Sonic takes an apple from the fruit basket on Tails desk and bites into it. The fox ends up finishing the bowl and he hands it to Sonic who takes it and sets it down on the desk.

"...Hey Sonic"

"Yeah... Mffhmm... What's up?" Sonic replies as he takes another bite of the apple.

"Do you have any friends?" Tails asks shyly.

"A few.... Mff... This is a good apple" He smacks his lips and then continues talking to Tails, "What about you?"

Tails ears droop, he shakes his head. Sonic finishes the apple and tosses it in the bin, then he sits on the chair by Tails, "Why wouldn't anyone wanna be friends with you? You're so awesome!"

"Everyone laughs at my for my extra tail... I was always bullied, attacked and picked on for my other tail too. I get called things like freak or alien, it's upsetting. I stopped trying to make friends at one point because every person I would meet would laugh at me for what's on the outside... And not what's inside. But, when I met you that night, I got some hope back, hope that I can make some cooler friends, friends who do cool stuff for a living like you..."

Tails takes a shaky breath, "So... Sonic, can you be my friend?"

The room is silent for a moment, Sonic looks at Tails intensely, the foxes heartbeat quickens as he grows more and more nervous, then the tention is released when Sonic starts to laugh as if he'd heard a joke. Tail groans, at least he gave it a shot... But just as he's about to tear up...

"Of course I'll be your friend Tails! Hahahaha!" Sonic says threw his laughter.

"...Really?" Tails says, a glimmer of excitement in his eye.

"Of course! I don't see why we shouldn't!" Sonic answers.

"Wow... Thanks!" Tails says, grabbing onto the hedgehog for a hug, Sonic embraces him back.

"So uh, do you have any chilli dogs?" Sonic asks.

Tails groans but he's not really not surprised he ruined the moment.

"You just had to ruin it" Tails says, crossing his arms.

The hedgehog gives Tails a goofy grin, as he scratches the back of his head. Tails blushes again when he sees Sonic smile, he looks away, "There's a cook book with detailed instructions on how to make some... Do not burn the house down! I'll be there to watch you soon!"

"You're the best!" Sonic says, then he runs out of the room to the kitchen so he can wait for Tails.

Tails laughs to himself a little as he slowly gets out of bed, a hopeful smile crosses his face, "Maybe things won't be so slow after all..."
