It has been two months since Sonic and Tails first met each other. Tails is on the beach watching the waves crash into the rocks nearby, the sight of the sunset a calming sight to the relaxing little fox. Since Sonic had finished his plane, he'd been flying all over the world, exploring new places, meeting new people, and getting all the machines and gadgets he could get his hands on.

On this particular day, he had just left a village he came across, they offered the fox some fruit in exchange for fixing their water purifiers, Tails finishes the last of the fruit and lays on the blanket he bought with him, the wind blowing his fur about was nothing short of relaxing.

Tails closes his eyes and thinks about what Sonic could probably be doing, he wished he could be as cool and charismatic as him. He closes he dreams about Sonic, the hedgehog is standing there extending his hand out so Tails could take it, "Come on buddy! Let's do this together!"

The dream makes Tails squirm excitedly.

"Hey! Hello?! You asleep?!" A familiar voice says as it gradually gets louder, "Hey pal! You okay?"

Tails sits up immediately and looks up, standing there with bandages on his hands is Sonic. Tails' face turns red in embarrassment, he really wished Sonic had not seen him behaving like that, but he brushes it off and fixes himself up.

"Sonic!... Yeah... I'm fine... What are you doing here?"

"Just taken a vacation, nothing special. How've you been?" Sonic asks, sitting down next to him.

"Good, since you finished my plane, I've been traveling. Traveling a little too much maybe..." Tails says scratching the back of his head.

Sonic looks ahead at the water and shivers uncomfortably, Tails is confused, "Are you okay?"

"Yeah... I just really hate water" Sonic says, trying to keep his composure.

"How come?" Tails asks, somewhat confused.

"I...I can't swim" Sonic admits, "I've tried to learn how to, but every time I see a body of water, there's this crumbling feeling inside like if I get any closer I'll have a panic attack. And the ocean, it has to be the worst of them"

"So you have hydrophobia... Well, I have Astraphobia" Tails admits, playing around with his fingers.

"What's that?" Sonic asks.

"It's the fear of lightning... I hate loud, unexpected noises"

"Same, I also hate spiders too, they creep me out" Sonic says.

They share a laugh together and then there's a moment of quiet between the two for a moment, nothing but the sound of the ocean and the leaves blowing in the air. Tails looks up at Sonic, there's something he's always wanted to ask the guy since he first met him and that's if he could join him and his adventures traveling around the world and stopping evil in whatever form it comes in.

He's never had friends before because everyone would bully him for his abnormality and Sonic seemed like the perfect guy to be friends with, he was kindhearted, helpful and full of positive energy. The fox takes a deep breath and opens his mouth but it's hard for the words to come out. Sonic turns and looks down at him smiling in a friendly manner. Tail's face turns red, it feels like it's on fire and he doesn't seem to know why.

"Something you wanna say?" Sonic asks.

"I... Uh..."

Suddenly, and without warning something grabs Sonic by the waist and yanks him away from Tails, the hedgehog shouts angrily, it's a robot and it's big, Sonic struggles wildly trying to get free and all Tails can do is watch in horror as the machine stuffs him inside of a glass tube and shuts it.

"Sonic!" Tails shouts.

"Tails! Run!" Sonic shouts, then the hedgehog is hit with a strong pulse of electricity, the pain is excruciating and it sinks Tails heart to watch Sonic be tortured like that. He hated this feeling, the feeling of being helpless as he's forced to watch as the robot continued to shock Sonic over and over again until he passed out, it makes his heart feel like it's being twisted up.

The fox has enough and grabs a small orb from his bag, he throws the orb and the machine and it starts beeping. The ground below starts rumbling as the machine begins to rise into the air. Tails fiddles around inside his bag desperately and finds a small silver object with a red button on the top. He pushes the button and the side of the robot combusts sending pieces of metal all over the place. The machine loses control and crashes into the forest, the sound of metal colliding with the ground echoed throughout the island.

Tails runs as fast as his legs will let him but there's an obstacle in his way, a deep ravine... The fox stares down at it. And then across the ravine. He takes a shaky breath and takes several steps back, then starts sprinting jumping repeatedly while trying to spin his two tails, he's running out of land, he's more desperate to get off the ground, his heart is pounding with nervousness... Until finally he's in the air, flying around like a helicopter. He's relieved and surprised he could even do this. But he has no time to marvel at his new achievement however as he comes up on the spot where the robot had crashed. He sees that Sonic is still inside and still unconscious, but he's not too banged up.

He lands on the damaged robot and grabs a piece of metal. He starts banging it on the glass repeatedly until it finally breaks and he drags a very weak Sonic out of the glass container.

"...Tails?" Sonic mumbles.

"I gotcha, relax" Tails says.

"Ngh, I didn't think Robotnik would find me here..."

"You afraid of heights?"

Sonic lets out a weak laugh, "Nah"

Tails chuckles a bit, "Hold on"

He starts spinning his tails again and he's up in the air, carrying the injured hedgehog back to the beach. Below them the parts of the robot start to explode randomly, setting some of the surrounding plants on fire and throwing debris every which way.

"Nggh, the forest-" Sonic says weakly, the hedgehog notices a village not far from the burning machine.

"You're too weak" Tails says.

"That village, it's gonna be toast without me-"

The hedgehog starts trying to get free from Tails hands, but the fox holds on tightly.

"Sonic, stop, your too injured to do anything right now"

"You gotta-"

"No! Look at you, you're in pain!" Tails shouts, "I'll... I'll go evacuate the locals! Don't worry"

Sonic is silent for a moment, "Promise, you'll get all of them out?"

Tails nods, Sonic smirks and looks down at the forest below him, "I hope you know what your doing"

Tails drops him on the beach where they were earlier so Sonic can rest. Then he starts flying towards the village. He can see the fire is starting to spread and it's slowly destroying the forest. The pressure is on, he not only wants to save the villagers but also make Sonic proud.

He arrives at the village and finds the locals in bed, he starts banging on all their doors trying to wake them up, when they're up they all look at Tails who's standing in the middle of their settlement.

"There's a fire and it's coming this way! We need to go and fast!" Tails shouts.

Some of the locals start panicking when they see the smoke in the distance and scramble to gather their belongings. It's chaos, but Tails helps as much as he can while the fire continues to get closer to the village. Once they're out of the village, the fox turns around and notices a little grey wolf child. Tails runs over to him and scoops him and the toy he's playing with up... He ends up getting singed on his left leg.

He shouts in pain, the fire is hot and it's making him weak, but he doesn't give up and starts limping as fast as he can away from the fire as it starts to swallow the empty houses, burn the crops and torch the trees. Tails makes good pace as the locals watch from across the river in suspense as Tails continued to limp and grunt, just as he nears the river though, he trips and plummets into the sandy ground. The little wolf starts screaming and crying as the fire gets closer. Tails looks back at the fire as the locals scream in fear, his leg is too injured for him to continue.

He starts crying, a terrible memory is flooding his head, there's fire around him too, there are voices, laughing and taunting him telling him how pathetic he is, telling him he can't do anything right. He sees something coming towards him as his vision starts to blur, the sound of the villagers shouting at him trying to tell him to get up, the sound of the crying wolf cub, the sound of the fire crackling behind him... It all fades away as his eyes slowly start to close.

He sees Sonic looking at him with disapproval and spite in his eyes, "Sonic... I'm sorry-"

The hedgehog turns around and walks away into the darkness, "No! Sonic, wait for me! I won't fail you again, I promise!"

The hedgehog eventually disappears into the darkness, Tails trips and keeps shouting for Sonic to come back, "Sonic!... Sonic!... Wait!"

"Sonic!" He shouts.

Tails looks around and to his surprise he's in a tent. The blue hedgehog, who's name he just shouted is looking down at him, he's covered in bandages, and his leg has been treated, there's a bandage on his face and a few cuts a bruises.

"You okay?" Sonic asks.

The fox starts to tear up and he looks down at the ground in shame, "I failed you... Didn't I?"

Sonic snickers and then it turns into laughter, "No Tails... You did great!"

"I did?" He says, surprised by Sonic's answer.

"Yeah! That little wolf pup is alive because of you, just because you got hurt while doing the right thing it's doesn't mean I'm disappointed in you... It proves to me that your fit to be a hero!"

Sonic gives him a thumbs up.

"What about the fire?" Tails questions.

"I managed to put it out, no biggie"

"Man, you're so much more awesome then me" Tails says.

"Hey, that's not true! You did your best, I'm proud of you for that!"

Tails manages a smile and looks up at him "Thanks Sonic..."

"No prob!" He says ruffling the foxes head.

"Hey stop it!" Tails shouts playfully.

After bidding farewell to the villagers, Sonic carried Tails to the beach and let him on his feet there after a short run from there to the beach. The fox sees that Sonic has his own plane, it's red and it looks a lot like the one Tails has.

"Whoa, this looks awesome!" Tails says, marveling at how cool Sonic's plane was.

The hedgehog grunts as he finally sits in the cockpit, his injuries from the robot attack were still bothering him, but since the villagers treated him and Tails, it wasn't as bad.

"Yeah it is-" Sonic says.

"Did you build it?!" Tails asks.

"Not quite, I bought it from some junker when I was starting out with all this stuff" Sonic responds.

"Oh, still looks like you've been taking good care of it though"

"Yeah... I better get going. It was great running into you again" Sonic says, buckling himself up.

Tails looks down at the ground and then back at Sonic, the Fox goes up to him and gives Sonic a hug, the hedgehog not minding it embraces him back before letting him go. Sonic salutes him off and starts the engine to the plane. He steers it away from Tails and begins his take off procedures, when he's done the plane rockets forward and he takes off soaring into the air. Tails watches for a little until the red plane is out of view, he packs up all his stuff and starts walking back to his own plane.

On his way back, he reflects on everything that happened that night. But the one thing that comes back to his head ths image of Sonic smiling at him while they were on the beach that evening. It made his face turn red, and his heartbeat quicken.

"Why is he so nice..?" He asks himself as he continues walking down the sandy beach towards his plane.
