Chapter 1: It's Just Me
The sound of rain pattering on the ground. The wind blows loudly as it sways the trees around. It's a stormy night on Westside Island. There's no sound but the wind blowing about and the branches of the trees swishing about in the wind. There's a small figure wearing a grey cloak trudging threw the mud and down the dirt path, the red shoes are covered in dirt and mud. He's carrying a bag full of food and other things and it's heavy on his shoulders.
He's trudging his way towards a pretty big wooden house. When he gets to the house, he fiddles around in his pocket of the keys and manages to get the door open to the house closing it quickly behind him. He removes the cloak and sets it on the coat hangar. It's a fox with orangish-yellowish fur, two twin tails, his chest down to his stomach covered in soft white fur, he's got blue eyes and three hairs sticking out the front of his head, his red shoes were covered in mud so he washes them off and puts them by the door, his fuzzy fur was a bit damp but he didn't seem to mind too much.
The fox puts the bag of food in his designated pantry and takes the other bag to a large room with what looks to be a red plane. He drops the heavy bag on the table and starts taking the contents out of the bag, they're mechanical parts. He takes some of the parts over to the plane and starts to work on the vehicle. He works on it all night, upgrading the engine, testing the rudders, and running checks with the instruments on the plane.
When he's done he yawns and stops working on the plane for the night, packing up all the tools and putting them away, closing the door behind him. He makes himself something to eat and then goes upstairs to get ready for bed. After a bath, the fox gets in bed and turns off the light before pulling the quilt over him...
Before he can close his eyes. There's the sound of a distant explosion. He sits up and jumps out of bed grabbing a pair of binoculars on the dresser. He opens the curtain and sees a decent size mushroom cloud in the distance, in the corner of his eye he sees something move pretty fast from the left to the right side, he doesn't think anything of it until he sees it move around again from the left to the right, there are smaller explosions too indicated by momentary flashes of light and sparks.
"What's happening over there"
Then the blue light zooms towards his home and stops, he gasps. There's silence in the room for a moment, nothing but the sound of the rain and wind whipping around, he gulps nervously, what could possibly move that fast?
There's pounding at the door, the fox is startled by the sound of pounding, he jumps when he hears it and how aggressive it is, he can tell whoever's out there is desperate, he takes a deep breath and he makes his way down the steps, grabbing a large heavy wrench incase he needed to defend himself. The pounding stops for a bit but then it resumes again. It sounded like whoever was outside was desperate to get in.
The fox looks threw the peephole and sees a blue figure standing outside the house as the rain keeps pouring down, it has spiky hairs on its back, his torso is sand coloured, green eyes, white gloves and red and white shoes and he's standing in the rain, tapping his foot nervously. The stranger looks nervous like he's desperate to find hiding, the fox sighs and decides to open the door. He unlocks the door and looks at the figure. He looks back at the fox and immediately bolts inside right passed him like a blur, pulling the little fox inside before closing the door and locking it all in two seconds.
"Whoo! Lucky for me someone was home!" The blue figure says, relieved to have found shelter, then he shakes so fast the water evaporates and his fur is all dry. The Fox points the wrench at him and he puts his hands up.
"Who are you-"
"Names' Sonic! And you can put the wrench down, I'm gonna hurt you pal"
"Miles... Prower, what are you running from-"
"Some egghead, he's pretty pissed right now because I trashed his giant drill thingy" Sonic explains, then he notices the foxes twin tails and raises an eyebrow, "Hey... You have two tails?"
"Oh shut up, that's all everyone talks about when they see me" Miles responds, he sounds agitated.
"Whoa... My bad bro, didn't realise that was a touchy subject for you" Sonic responds.
The hedgehog notices a red light in the distance, it's dancing around in the bushes, he suddenly runs around closing all the curtains in the house.
"Did you get followed or something?" Miles asks, crossing his arms.
"Definitely... But they usually end up losing me because of how fast I am" Sonic responds proudly.
Red lights begin emerging from the bushes, they're drones as wide as bombs, they scan the area around the area. Sonic hides under Miles' dinner table. After a few minutes the drones rise into the air and fly away from the house after finding nothing. Sonic crawls out from under the table breathing a sigh of relief and he peeks outside a closed curtain so he can watch the flying menace's take off into the air.
"That was close, thanks pal! I would have been toast if you hadn't let me in!" Sonic says.
"Sure, just leave whenever you can, I have a long day tomorrow" Miles retorts.
Then Sonic's stomach growls loudly, the hedgehog blushes in embarrassment, "Looks like I'm almost out of feul"
Miles' head slings back, not only did he have an uninvited guest in his house but now this uninvited guest was hungry, "There's a few berry trees in the grove not far from here, you can find some food there-"
"The last time I ate some random berries, my stomach was pretty upset with me" Sonic responds, then he notices the groceries still in the bag and runs over to it.
"Whoa, tacos! Is that potato bread?! Oh and some fruits too-"
Miles snatches the bag from Sonic, "This is my food!"
"Come on! I can't stand those berries! Please?!" Sonic pleads, getting on his knees.
"No!"
"Man" Sonic pouts.
Then he notices the fridge and opens it, the fox wants to bang my head on a wall. He puts the bag of food on the counter and pulls Sonic away from the fridge.
"Can you at least ask?!" Miles shouts.
Sonic is quiet for a moment with a blank look on his face, then, "Can I have something to eat?"
Miles eye twitches, but he was way too tired and didn't want to go in circles telling the hedgehog not to go through his food, "Fine"
The fox prepares Sonic a sandwich and the hedgehog devours it, "One more!"
He groans and makes another one for Sonic, he demolishes that one too, "Thanks!"
"Can you leave now?"
"Can't, this guys so paranoid he sends drones in the night too" Sonic responds brushing the crumbs off his chest.
"If your lying to me I swear-"
"Relax, I never lie" Sonic reassures.
"The couch, no where else"
"Thanks!" Sonic goes over to the couch and covers himself with the blanket on there.
Miles grumbles frustratedly and goes up to his room so he can turn in for the night. A few hours pass by and the rain is still coming down outside, the fox sleeps peacefully upstairs in his room while Sonic sleeps on the couch snoring loudly and obnoxiously. Suddenly there's a crashing sound, Sonic is awakened by the sudden noise and sits up on the couch. He looks and notices a room with the light still on, he jumps off the sofa and walks over to the door. He opens it and sees the plane Miles is working on.
"Whoa..." Sonic says in amazement, "He built this...?"
Then he sees what caused the sound, the toolbox had fallen off of the stool it was on and onto the floor, the metal tools were scattered all over the floor and that wasn't the only thing Sonic noticed. The whole workshop was disorganised, like a tornado had passed through it. The hedgehog thinks for a moment... Then he gets an idea.
"I guess I gotta repay his hospitality somehow-" He says with a smirk.
With that he runs around the shop organising all the fox's tools, computers, and materials. Then he looks at the plane which is barely completed and scratches his chin in thought, then another grin appears on his face. He takes the blueprints on the table and runs back up to the plane, he pins the blueprints onto the tackboard and he gets to work. The hedgehog struggles and tinkers all night and when he's finally done he covers the plane with a tarp and dusts off his hands.
The hedgehog is about to leave the workshop when he sees Miles standing there, wearing a white t-shirt, mouth open in surprise, "Oh boy-"
"Wh-Wh-What did you do?!"
"Uhhhhh I can explain-" Sonic starts.
"This is awesome!" Miles shouts with little sparkles in his eyes.
Sonic is confused by his answer but satisfied nonetheless.
Miles comes inside and marvels at the organised workshop. He could suddenly find everything and see all the tools he had, he wouldn't have to dig around for tools and materials anymore. Sonic had also done some cleaning so the place felt new again.
"You did this?!" Miles shouts.
"Yup!" Sonic says, giving him a thumbs up.
Miles can barely control his excitement and he jumps onto Sonic and giving him a hug.
"Thank you! So much!"
"No problem!"
Sonic yawns, Miles let's go of him, "I should get back to bed though-"
The hedgehog starts walking towards the door while smacking his lips lazily.
"Same... Hey!"
Sonic stops and looks back at Miles with a tired look on his face.
"Th-Thanks... And I'm sorry for being so mean to you earlier" The fox says with a smile.
"Don't worry about it, I can be a bit of an idiot too. Night..."
"Good night"
Sonic leaves the room and plops back down on the couch. Miles is about to turn off the light but then he notices the tarp covering the plane he was working on he becomes curious. However, he decides to check it out in the morning, after all it was late in the night and he still needed more sleep, he turns off the light and goes on upstairs so he can go back to sleep.
In the morning, the rain has long stopped and the forest floor is damp, there's water dripping from the leaves and the sounds of animals in the distance. Sonic gets up and stretches before popping a breath mint into his mouth, it's time for him to go. Miles prepares him something for him to eat for his journey home.
"Hey uh Miles, thanks for letting me crash at your place"
"No problem! Just don't drive me crazy next time we meet... If we ever meet..." Miles says.
"...Gah! Miles sounds kinda weird to be honest" Sonic says.
"...Not the first time I've heard that before"
"How about Tails! Sounds cooler anyway!" Sonic says.
"Seriously?!" The fox shouts thinking Sonic is making fun of his abnormality. He stops and thinks about it however, he's never had a nickname, nonetheless one so unique.
"What?! It's better then all the other names I come up with and trust me I suck at naming things" Sonic responds.
"...You know what, I like it... Tails, Tails Prower. Thanks"
"See! Told ya it sounds good" Sonic says, ruffling his head, Tails laughs playfully enjoying it, "Anyway, I gotta run... Literally"
Tails snickers at the joke as Sonic is about to take off, then he straightens himself, "Hey!"
Sonic turns to the fox.
"Come back soon!" He shouts.
Sonic smiles, "Who said I wouldn't?"
Then in an instant Sonic is gone, running threw the forest as Tails waves at him. He goes back inside his home and closes the door behind, he goes to the workshop and looks up at the plane covered in the tarp. He takes a deep breath and pulls the tarp from the plane...
Sonic had completed the plane. He painted it a shade of light orange, wired all the controls, fixed everything Tails couldn't fix previously (somehow), cleaned up the interior and polished the engine and did so much more.
Tails is in awe as he stares at the plane, he runs a few tests and finds that everything works, Sonic even built a little cup holder for him, the fox notices something attached to one of the wheels on the landing gear, a note from the blue hedgehog himself. Tails takes the note from the wheel and reads it.
If you ever need a friend you know who to go to
Sonic
Tails smiles and he blushes a little, then he squeezes the piece of paper as if he's hugging it, "That guy..."
