Chapter Seven
"That's what no one tells you, it's harder to be the one left behind"- Kami Garcia (Beautiuful Chaos)
Jasmine woke up to the feeling of something cold and wet against her skin. Her eyes slowly drifted open and she saw that the left side of her face was buried in snow. She gasped and sat up, taking in her surroundings. The first thing that she realized was that she was completely naked, the second thing was that she was outside, the third thing was that she was across the street from a park she recognized all too well. She looked behind her and realized that she was home. She stood up slowly, the freezing wind making her legs feel numb. She practically fell against the door and raised a weak hand to knock.
Sirius woke up to an incessant knocking sound coming from downstairs. "SHUT UP YOU OLD HAG!" He yelled at the screaming painting of his mother.
"HALF BREEDS! BLOOD TRAITORS!" she continued screaming
"I SAID SHUT UP" He slammed the curtains closed
"God. Even from beyond the grave she's getting on my last nerve" he muttered to himself as he walked down the stairs to the front door. A strong sense of foreboding caused his heart to race. He had know idea who could be beyond the wall, but he did know that it would change everything.
The door slowly creaked open, every inch sent another painful pump of Sirius's heart . The door fell open, revealing a woman naked and shivering violently from the cold. The first detail he noticed was her raven black hair falling over her face. The next was her deep hazel eyes as she looked up at him. A gasp flew out of his lungs as he realized that it was jasmine in front of him.
He pulled her into his grasp, trying desperately to get her warm. "Oh god. Please baby girl, you can't leave me. I need you. Please" The last word was but a whisper of a prayer, something so soft that anyone who heard it would not be able to comprehend the pain behind it.
The pain that laced his voice was not of any single origin, it was the pain of losing a love that had a just been found. It was the pain of losing something so precious that you knew everything else would pale next to it.
Sirius could feel his heart beginning to rip as Jasmine's eyes remained closed. Suddenly, her raspy voice floated into his ears, "Sirius" she whispered. He immediately took her to her room, dressing her quickly and placing her under the covers.
She fell asleep after Sirius gave her some water to settle her system, "Don't worry my love" he whispered as he kissed her forehead, "You're safe."

The next week was torturously slow. Jasmine recovered from the mild case of hypothermia with minimal complications. The problem, however, came when she continued to get worse. Sirius had expected her to grow better, to become well again once she was kept warm. But that didn't happen.
When she was awake, she complained of chest pain. Her breathing rapidly grew more shallow, as if something was preventing her from getting a proper breath. They would lie together at night, her sleeping and him whispering his love to her. Then, he would fall asleep and wait until she woke him up from coughing.
It took a week for him to wake up before she did. One week before she didn't wake him up coughing. It only took a week after getting her back that he lost her once and for all.
Sirius didn't realize at first what her being cold to the touch meant. It took him a full thirty seconds to realize that she wasn't breathing. It took him another minute to react to the fact that she was dead.
He scrambled out of the bed, the nearly silent plea of "No!" fell from his lips as he began to cry. He kept repeating it, unable to believe that fate could be so cruel.
The next thing he did was shake her limp frame, begging her to wake up. "Please. Please baby girl. You can't leave me. Please! I need you." tears rapidly fell down his face when her eyes did not open.
His knees collapsed under him, refusing to hold his weight any longer. Sobs wracked his frame as he held the lifeless body of his love.
